MANY SPOILERS ABOUT THE PLOT AND ENDING OF THE HEART OF THORNS PERSONAL STORYLINE.
So I just finished the HoT personal story today. Overall I’m pretty satisfied. The final encounter was (mechanistically at least) much more satisfying than the Zhaitan.
I was kind of thrown off by the lack of denouement though. The story feels like it’s missing a last instance to tie up loose ends.
We kill Mordremoth’s mind, deal with Trahaerne, get our big loot chest and then…we’re done? Where’s the last instance where we get back together with the team and decompress over our giant struggle? Why didn’t we meet back up with Kasmeer to find out how Zojja/Logan turned out? Did everything go alright for Taimi all alone in Rata Novum? Is the pale tree okay? Why didn’t we have an audience where the triumphant heroes limp back into the Oomphalos chamber to be graciously received by a now-recovered Pale Tree?
Dunno, I suppose a lot of this will be covered when Anet takes up the Living Story again in a few (or maybe more like 6?) months. It just seemed like the story ended rather abruptly.

As per title. Looking for some people to run progression from 76-100, probably at least 3 levels per day. Meta builds + strats, experienced players.
Currently have Ele and Chrono geared (150 AR). LEmme know if you have a slot in your group or are intersted
Thanks for update, sorry for terse responses but it’s been frustrating not to be able to progress when I’ve got 3 stacks of +1s sitting in storage!
Vendor still disabled >.>
The berserker “meta” became “meta” because it is the Most Effecient Tactic Available.
That’s actually pretty clever, but I hope you don’t think meta is actually an acronym =D
We aren’t going to release any videos, guides, etc for raids until multiple guilds have cleared the wing. Our goal is to preserve competition for all the guilds interested in progression and not spoil the fun of learning the fights by doing anything to taint that. We will do our best to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible in the raid, which is the whole point of having guilds invited to test these things.
I should make it clear that no one testing will be allowed to video, screenshot, or otherwise record or document any test content whatsoever, whether for use immediately or for future use. That is part of the NDA.
Any guild posting about raids will gather information, screenshots, videos, and all resources only from the released, live game and never through access to a test server.
That’s not the concern. The concern is that DnT will have advanced access to test and practice the mechanics of the raid. They’ll then be able to use that advantage to claim a world first clear on live.
It’d be like giving one runner in the olympics a 5 second head start, then claiming he’d won a world record.

Are you going to give up any claim to a world first too? If you’ve had insider testing of the content before anyone else, it’s pretty unreasonable for you to claim a world first on live.
Could you please specify why [Att] was chosen? Their guild does easy world boss kills and isn’t particularly involved in high-end instances. That seems like a really odd choice for testing 10-man content when there are much more accomplished dungeon and fractal guilds available.
Does it have to do with the fact that several members of Arenanet staff are members in [Att]?

Still bugged and they’ve put in an invisible wall so you can’t jump from above anymore >.>
3rd party websites pretty much never refund digital purchases cuz they don’t care unless it’s fraud since they pretty much write in their little agreement; “**** you; purchase at own risk” and don’t even attempt to work with the company that owns their product. The owner of Anet could personally request it and they’d probably give him the middle finger and say no. I avoid them unless it’s a super cheap offer, and legit hopefully. I actually got refunded my physical copy of Eye of the North purchased from Amazon centuries ago cuz the dude sent me a used CD key. ;o That was a phys copy though which get more support.
I didn’t make a purchase from a 3rd party, I made a purchase direct from Amazon which is an authorized reseller…
Edit
Cant really expect anet to refund something you bought somewere else can you?
Considering Amazon is an authorized reseller I thought it was worth a shot.
Read the FAQ in February, decided to buy the game in anticipation of the expansion. The price of the Heroic Edition was $10 cheaper on Amazon than the full price on Arenanet’s website at the time, so I purchased from Amazon as they are a very trusted vendor.
Saw the announcement today and decided to submit a ticket with Amazon to see if they would issue a refund. Amazon refused
I’m basically SOL and will only get a character slot rather than a refund if I choose to preorder GW:HOT, despite Anet’s false advertising in the FAQ right?

@ Errant
Didn’t you start a thread about this right after it happened? Where did it go?
It got merged into the megathread and lost in the kittenstorm

The other choice they had was coming forward and being honest instead of ignoring the community (hostile or not) and trying to pull a fast one. It may be true now but it contradicts what it said before that brought in sales/revenue.
E3 week, don’t hold your breath. Smart move is to say absolutely nothing and hope all the bloggers have too much other stuff to write about to notice.

I should be a bit more clear: Please don’t take a comment like “we’re reading your thoughts” lightly. That’s truly not a dismissive comment, but one that is intended to let you know that feedback from our forum members and players will be shared with the team as a whole.
In fact, I’ll edit my previous post to make that a bit more visible.
Yay! I think just knowing that we’ve been considered, whether it results in anything or not, helps put our minds at ease about the whole ordeal.
Also when you say that you’re “reading our thoughts” are you SURE you weren’t suggesting telepathy?
Oh gad! You’re right. That really should simply be “reading and sharing your input.” I hesitate to go back and edit that post, especially since it was quoted a time or two. But I hope you’ll forgive the poor wording by looking at the good intentions it symbolizes.
Gaile could you please comment on the change made to the FAQ literally within hours of the pre-order going live? It’s being seen by lots of players (especially in light of the several sales on core game accounts the last few months) as an unethical cash grab that borders on a bait-and-switch.
It looks to the veteran players like either somebody screwed up and tried to cover their tracks or else Arenanet is engaged in some incredibly dishonest business practices. You can understand why the player base isn’t very likely to trust any information or statements coming from Arenanet or their representatives, right? In either case the community at large is owed an apology

Information changes. Before they announced pre-purchase, the assumption was that you’d have to buy them separately. After the announcement, the base game is free and the expansion comes with it (for players who don’t have it already). For players who have the base game, the expansion is all they get for $50 (which is standard pricing for expansions these days).
Look at the cache…they changed the FAQ mere hours before announcing preorders. It’s a bait-and-switch.

Most retailer will price match as much as 30 days I think Anet will make good on this. Open a support ticket if you bought the game in the last 30 days see what type of respouce you get before casting judgment.
Anet closes accounts for any refund though, so you’d have to lose any progress you’ve made since you bought the game and you’d have to wait for release to start playing again.

Thank you for this.
The $50 price tag is actually reasonable.
Going ahead and giving new players the whole package is actually reasonable.
This, however is incredibly slimy, dishonest, and anyone who has purchased the game between the publication date of this FAQ and today may actually have legal grounds to persue legal action for false advertising.
Giving a loyalty bonus to long time players would be nice, but that one line is potentially a legitimate business and legal issue.
Anets PR team had better get right on this debacle, or the press is really going to slam them on this one if they don’t fix it before they run out of shiny new E3 coverage. If nothing else, they’ll probably cover this instead of the [really awesome looking] guild hall features they’d LIKE the gaming press to be covering.
That’s what I thought, this totally sounds like a bait-and-switch especially considering all of the sales and promotions on the base game in the last few months.

Is there any way this wasn’t a bait-and-switch? The HoT FAW made it clear that you needed to purchase the expansion separately from the base game.

LOL they absolutely just edited the FAQ. This is what it said before:
“Q: Do I have to own Guild Wars 2 to play the expansion?
A: Yes. Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is an expansion to Guild Wars 2 and not a stand-alone campaign, and therefore it requires the base game to play.”
How long until we start talking about a bait-and-switch?
That’s fine if you’re an addict unable to move on from a dead game. For players who gave up a year ago, there’s no way this will draw us back.

Well at least that price explains why they were willing to sell the base game for $15 a month ago lol

If you need people to fill out runs feel free to give me a ring, but I can’t commit to 100% rep, GL!
IGN: Shadow Sanctuary
There is a conversation going on about this, but no decisions have been made.
Must be a kitten intense discussion if it’s ongoing for over a month.
Yeah let me go poke the email chain again.
dot dot dot
Can’t tell if sarcasm
If you don’t get an A we’ll all be very disappointed in you.
I’ve just finished 100% World Completion on my account and I did not get 1 Black Lion Key from map completion…Transmutation Charges dropped every time. Is this bugged or did BLKs get removed from map completion loot table?
It’s not a troll, it’s a bug that causes all map pings to repeat themselves. Good job getting worked up though.
Celestial ele/engi are the most OP builds ever made.
lol
I’d be perfectly willing to check off an an options box (or purchase a gem store item) that gives me the option to queue from the open world and acknowledges that I may miss my queues due to loading screens
It’s not allowed because you might get dishonor while in a loading screen when the queue pops, even though there is no dishonor feature enabled! #anetlogic
Wahoo! Bye frands!
Put a checkbox option on the PvP menu: “Allow queueing from outside the mists”
E z p z.
It’s not your job to chase down a roamer off point on war. That’s for a thief/mes/guard/ele. This is a L2P issue.
You have cooldowns that let you become completely invulnerable to direct + condi damage. All classes deserve that too right?

Wait for the Stronghold and you’ll probably never see turret engineer again
I really hope Stronghold has more maps and separate itself from SPVP map selection. As ranger main, I probably will never choose maps other than Stronghold because finally there’s a map that favors skirmishing instead of bunking.
Stronghold is going in the same queue as conquest >.>
For the love of all that is good, please let us queue from open world.
Looks like justin said it would be an interesting report in January but I can’t find any actual numbers
PvP update has been out for many months now. Can we finally get some hard metrics on how people vote for each map? Thanks.
I get that you don’t want absolute noobs to get “confused” by the difficult concept of different equipment sets for PvP & PvE but the 5+ min queue times with nothing to do but sit in HoTM are unbearable. Let us queue from the open world (make it an option in settings that’s off by default or something) so we can at least do hearts n kitten while we wait.
So it’s been a few months since the PvP changes now. Can you guys release some stats to break down map voting for arenas?
I investigated this last night and the claims are false. I found the person that was placing siege and terminated that account.
Also, remember that false reporting can lead to a suspension or termination of your account.
Terminating accounts for trolling siege seems really extreme unless it’s massively recidivistic offender O___O
