Welp, on behalf of Aubree and myself, we would like to bid farewell to Super Adventure Box. She is beside herself, but got to stay up extra late to play it last night. Until next time, SAB, we will work on our skills, and Lord Vanquish shall be… vanquished!

We would also like to express one more big thank you to everyone who took an interest in her story, cared to comment on this thread, watch her videos, and be supportive. We can’t wait for world 3.

I’ll have a hard time doing without the SAB…Definitely the best part of GW2 for me thus far. As a consolation, Terraria 1.2 is out, which my guildies and I tried out last night. Awesome.

Just got FF14. Amazing!

Couldn’t stand it the first time, can’t stand it the second time.

If I wanted to play platform games I’d go and join the peasants and buy an X-Box or PS3. How about something else other than SAB A-Net???

I just delete my continue coins to free up bank space (along with that princess tiara and wig rubbish). It hits my backpack and it’s drag and drop out of existence.

Would love an option in the game setup that said “ignore SAB and all SAB related items”.

All you have to do is not play it. There’s really no reason to be hateful and mean about it. There were quite a few people who worked very long and very kitten SAB. You must not have grown up with the Atari/Commodore/NES/etc., so I understand your lack of nostalgia about the SAB. Like I said, you don’t have to be hateful. Just don’t play it. You’re not forced to.

This crap has nothing in common with atari/comorode/nes classics. NOTHING. Not even the hardest rage inducing titles ever used invisible/luck based 1 shot kills. Please do not pollute fond memories by comparing them to cheap/luck/redundant memorization crap fest that lasts well above half an hour for a level.
Even if I only finished contra solo once… It has never used invisible traps nor did it ever require luck.

No need to go getting an attitude. Requiring items to get to certain levels? Zelda. Bombing hidden rooms and the music that follows when you uncover them? Zelda. The image that goes on the screen when you die? Mario. The King Toad music? Battletoads. Rescuing a princess? Zelda, Mario. The clearly obvious Q-Bert-inspired puzzles in Storm Top? Please tell me again how this doesn’t have anything in common with any of those platforms? It sounds to me like you are talking about Tribulation Mode. I apologize for any confusion, and for not stating it, but I was NOT, thus the cheap/luck/redundant memorization crap fest that lasts well above half an hour for a level wasn’t needed.

This is what Bree and I have been working on for the past 30 minutes or so. Sigh. The bane of my existence. We are playing on Infantile but she likes to take the hard paths anyway. At least she has bombs and is a good helper.

She decided not to buy the Infinite Continue Coin. Wise choice, IMO.

Dodge jump for master of baubles ? (help!)

I hit spacebar + v at the same time, press down rather hard when I do it. I do it kind of odd compared to most people, but I move my left ring finger to W, index finger to V and thumb on spacebar. It took me quite awhile to figure it out, too, but now that I’ve achieved it, I have about a 90% success rate. Using a Razer Lycosa keyboard. It was also suggested to me that you bind the dodge key to a mouse button instead of the keyboard. Dodge-jumps don’t always work for me, but more often than not, they do. I hope this helps.

Personally I think that the Genie is a dark reflection of the emotions Moto poured into creating the Super Adventure Box. We don’t really know much about Moto’s state of mind when he made the SAB, but I’m willing to bet there must have been at least a bit of “Kick me out, will they? I’ll show them. I’ll show them all!” going through his head. The genie is attempting to fulfill that subconscious desire by sabotaging his old krewe’s work, even if Moto isn’t willing to consciously support it.

I fully support this theory, Zax.

I watched a little blurb of the video on youtube, wow.. your daughter is way better than me at most of those jumps hehe! To be fair I keyboard turn since my mouse is a laptop touchpad, but even still.. she doesn’t control the mouse, just the jumps.. and those take really good spacial skills. I’m impressed, moto’s star pupil indeed!

Edit: Oh, and before I forget does Aubree like charr? I hope so!

She does like the kitties! Black Citadel not so much, but the race she likes. I don’t blame you for keyboard turning on a laptop. Perhaps you could get a cheap USB mouse to use with it? I can’t play on laptops. My desktop has spoiled me. Props to you for even being able to play SAB on a laptop lol.

Aubree decided to spend 10 of her dollars to buy an infinite continue coin today. We will be attempting W1Z1 on Tribulation today. I hope I’ll be able to get video!

SAB teaches life lessons, money solves problems :P

It even teaches money management skills!

Not related to Guild Wars, but I uploaded a few videos of her playing Magic with me today.

Harder? Sure.

Longer? No.

Devoting hours of play time that can be wiped away by a single disconnect is not the way to go.

Reminds me of the time my mom was vacuuming and knocked out the power cord to my Playstation when I was on the final Sephiroth battle in FF7. <— nothing you could do about it then either. Old games worked like that, and so does SAB.

This.

(Phew! Don’t have to recolor my armor in pink – success! throws the pink colors into the darkest corners of Tyria)

Btw, Swiftpaw looks great in pink! :P I guess she won’t let you recolor never ever again?

She gasped very dramatically when she saw the pictures of you. She calls Asura “alien people.” It fits, I suppose. lol

Swiftpaw thanks you! Pink armor is awesome. I’m hoping she will let me do green (my fav) with pink. Watermelon armor!! Her Engineer is pink so she can just deal! lol.

We went out in the actual Guild Wars world today. She was fighting mobs in Metrica Province all by herself. She wouldn’t let me help her. Granted she’s level 15, but hey! It’s a start! She’d read their level and say, “These bad guys do 4 damage.”

Aubree thinks I’m ugly… :-(

trying to make big nice eyes and look as cute as possible

If this doesn’t help I will buy a fluffy pink hat and recolor my clothes…

However… GZ on your progress! I just can’t stop checking for new videos in your youtube account. I love her reactions to different situations. I wonder how she would react to the eagle, or the octopus…

You are possibly the cutest Asura in the whole entire world and I will show her these pictures tomorrow and she will change her mind or so help me I’ll throw her in the trash can!

Just kidding, but you really are adorable. Thank you for that, too! We found the eagle the other day, she was playing on my lap since we were trying Pain Cliffs on normal for the first time. I professionally got knocked off on the first wave of Angry-Bird-Owls and she says, “You were supposed to move mommy…. facepalm!”
I also walked right through a dart-trap door after telling her “The Ninja Training Grounds are to make you pay attention to your environment. So pay attention and look around before you run in anywhere!”
She very politely says, as I’m laying there dead, “You didn’t pay attention, mom…”
Sigh.

The Octupus? The blue guy that eats the fishies? Or is there another one? We have not found that!

We made it a little way through Storm Top on normal, but it was just too hard. She can’t time when to run through the windy-blowy-mouths, and the ice really screws her up. We recruited her father to help us. She played on my lap on his computer and he played on mine. Together we made it to the hilly ice bridges, but we haven’t beaten it yet. He became incredibly frustrated. :P

I’m not sure how, but Scarlet is definitely involved.

No. There is no indication at all of Scarlet being involved. And hopefully it stays that way.

Everyone assumes that “the competition’s machine” is a competitor with SAB for the Snaff Prize, but it’s quite possible that it’s actually a competitor with Scarlet’s Eternal Alchemy machine. If anyone has the skills to hack SAB, it’s Scarlet, but I’m sure there’s more to it than that.

Seems very legit.

^ Congrats to Aubree!

She says fanks Zax!

Bree is so smart. Can’t believe a 3 yr old can do that. Does Bree not like Asuras? I think it would be so cute if Bree plays a little female Asura.

She isn’t a fan of Asuras.. she thinks they’re ugly. lol. She likes the Norn a lot, though. I have a Norn Ranger named Aubree Swiftpaw, that’s her favorite.

Hah! Aubree likes the epic race!

The Norn are the best.

Lol! The Norn are awesome, Wolf for the win.

Aubree is creating her own Norn mini-legend with this thread.

That’s great! I’ll have to tell her that. :P She’ll say, “What’s a legend?”

Well, the male Asuras are pretty ugly I admit. But the female Asuras are darn cute. They are like little cute babies running around the game, just like Bree.

It’s funny that she love the Norns. They are much harder to do jumping puzzles with. Post a pic of this Aubree Swiftpaw.

I like the Asura, personally. I have a thing with making small characters tank roles. Not that I have any idea how to tank in this game, but whatever. Ms. Swiftpaw is only level 8 so therefore is not very impressive, lol. She also required me to change her colors to Bengals colors since I don’t have any pinks. Her jumping with Norn all the time makes it much better when she gets on a smaller character and tries to jump. :P

Nerdiest mom on the planet, maybe. :P

I’ll always think of that one as “Absence makes the heart grow yonder”…

As Katz said, no matter what you do, you do it together. I even think that that is the most important part. Not what you play together, but that you play together…

I agree.

Amazing story

Thank you so much for reading. We appreciate it greatly!

definitely going to buy super adventure box for my home instance when it’s released..

Great idea!! Thank you for reading!!

Wow really? I was probably still chewing on my toys and clapping and laughing when some made a face at me at that age ^^

LOL! She still laughs when people make faces at her. :P

So now a 3 year can get to places i cant, I think its time to hang up my keyboard and mouse.

That’s about how I felt. -.- I think she’s secretly hacking.

When she gets older, and if she’s interested, she will play Dungeons and Dragons with us, too.

You guys play D&D too? kitten . If I lived closer I’d love to join you guys for a game sometime. XD

And you got “schooled” by a 3 year old at SAB?

She hasn’t started playing D&D with us, yet, but I hope she will when she gets a bit older. We’re in Ohio. It’s just three of us right now, I’d love to get some more people for our group. It’s not technically D&D, it’s a game my brother actually made up himself, using aspects of D&D, Castle Ravenloft, Pathfinder, and Last Night on Earth. It’s very fun and you can create any kind of class you want. I have a healing monk that has a Gambit-fighting-style, she doesn’t do a lot of damage but she has a very high dodge. She’s mostly used for keeping aggro so the high DPS of the group can get behind and flank. I also have a Summoner, based around the FFXI job.

She takes me to school every day in this game. -.-

That would be SkiFree, and yes, it was awesome. The yeti was actually a novel mechanic- it only comes after you’ve finished the designed course- rather than just stop you there, you get to keep going down the generated terrain until it comes and eats you. Technically possible to avoid by turning on boost mode and skirting around it, but it’s designed to always catch you eventually.

Yes!! That’s it! I think I was six or seven when I played it so I really had no idea what I was doing, but that makes me feel better, thanks! lol!

New Mesmer - Advice?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Euphemia.7240

Euphemia.7240

I apologize in advance for asking this, but I am relatively new to Guild Wars 2 (have had it since first release, but have played very little, highest character is only 40’s and I have yet to run a dungeon). I recently made a Mesmer and have so far fallen in love with her. I am only level 5, so I have quite a ways to go, but if anyone could throw me any advice about what stats to aim for on gear, or what skills to pick up, I would greatly appreciate it. I am currently using a main hand sword/off hand pistol and I’m really enjoying it. I also read that staves go well with them. I have looked at the different builds listed in the posts above, but it seems like those are aimed more for end-game and not for leveling. Since I chose to go more of the melee-fighting route, I’ve been aiming for mostly vitality/toughness. Things seem to die relatively easily with the sword/pistol, faster than with the scepter, anyway. Not that I really have much to go on, being so low level.

Thank you for your time.

Look at it this way, if it was here all the time we would get tired of playing it. As it is, if they bring it out for us to play every few months it will always be a treat.

Also, we got my oldest son started on computers when he was about your daughters age. He says he remembers playing the Sesame street abc, and numbers game we had on the computer. He is now a software engineer and is doing just fine.

The thing is, you are doing things with your daughter, not having the computer and games babysit her. There is a big difference.

You are right on that. I totally agree. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?

That is awesome. Congrats on having a software engineer, that is too cool. I want to attend college for game development, but I’m afraid there’s no way I could hack the math. It must be taken with a grain of salt, children are so impressionable – there has to be a balance in everything you do with them. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and read.

Totally awesome video Euphemia! Thank you so much for sharing! I hope you’ll keep us up to date on your daughter in the future!

Also, don’t let all these people get you down because they feel some sick need to scold you for letting your young child play MMORPGs. I played City of Heroes/Villains (another Teen rated MMO that like GW2) and there was a incredibly popular thread called “What my Six Year Old has Learned from CoX” (X = City of Heroes and City of Villains). Sister Flame started playing at 4 1/2 years old and played the game right up until its sunset (she was 10 or 11 years old when the servers were shut down). Her dad kept the thread up to date throughout the years so the community could keep up to speed on Sister Flame. Long story short, she grew up on an MMORPG and turned out just fine.

Sadly, the thread no longer exists, as the game is no longer around. But luckily, some folks preserved the original post from the thread.

Guild Wars 2 has a rating of;

ESRB: T
PEGI: 12

Perhaps a toddler should better spend its time developing socially rather than training elite gaming skills? A three year old a child literally just learned to talk properly, hand eye coordination is poor, those jumps were extremely advanced for a toddler.

Not saying you are a bad parent, but choosing Guild Wars 2 over educational toys? Odd choice.

We both appreciate you taking the time to read, watch, and reply. Most common educational toys for toddlers are in some form of electronic… tablets, leapfrogs, abcmouse is a website, etc. etc. SAB, NOT Guild Wars, IS an educational tool for us. I would hate for anyone to think all we do is sit in front of the computer and play Guild Wars all day. She doesn’t care for the actual game, all she cares for is SAB. She has no interest in playing if SAB is not working. As I’ve said before, I own three horses she helps me take care of on a daily basis – we actually just returned from the barn and she’s now taking a nap. Her cousin comes over regularly and they spend time jumping on the trampoline, building with Legos, or playing pretend. We do puzzles, we color, we craft exquisite bead-jewelry, we work in her pre-school book every night before bed, usually one letter and one number a night. She is the ONLY three year old I have ever seen that can put a 100 piece puzzle together by herself in 15 minutes. I have video of that, too, if you don’t believe me. It’s much more than “training elite gaming skills” for us. I don’t really consider this any different than parents letting their 12 year old kids play Call of Duty, which is a much worse influence than Guild Wars 2, which encourages everyone to help each other. The benefit I have seen from her playing is so amazing – from color recognition from always wanting to change her character’s outfit colors, letter recognition from having to press “h” to get into her hero screen, “wasd” to move, “i” for her inventory, she’s learning how to spell “dance” from always wanting to do the emote when we achieve a hard jump, and numbers from having to press the correct button to attack an enemy or throw a bomb. I don’t doubt there are “better” or more “acceptable” ways to teach kids these things, but this keeps her attention, she has FUN (which is the most important thing to me) while she is doing it, and she is actually learning things. We use Magic the Gathering as a learning tool, also, so we are just full of oddness. When she gets older, and if she’s interested, she will play Dungeons and Dragons with us, too. I do appreciate you taking the time to reply, thank you.

You’re spoiling her brain. She’s going to become too smart.
What if her gaming style evolves to pvp and she becomes an unstoppable PKer?
Make sure she uses her power correctly.

I hope I’m not spoiling her brain. I honestly don’t know if she’ll be into PvP. Everyone she sees she says they are her friend. She would just run up and /hug you to death, I suppose.

Thank you for watching! I’m fortunate enough to have a wonderful fiance who has allowed me to not work to raise our daughter and pursue my dream of owning my own horse training and riding lesson barn, so when we’re not riding, I am able to play with her in things like SAB.

Well, that should put a few fears to rest. She does go outside and play too. And with animals no less.

About your post about the jerks in game. I personally think it’s good (for your daugher’s growing up education) that they are there. You can point them out and tell her to ignore them. As with most bullies, once you stop giving them attention, they will stop being jerks. And otherwise there’s this wonderful feature called the ignore list… (oh, and tell your daughter to not copy them!)

And, like your daughter, I can’t wait till SAB is a permanent addition to the game.

I agree. She needs to experience both good and bad people. I am just afraid that I won’t be able to be a good enough influence to keep her from becoming a butthead. Oh well I suppose, whatever happens, happens, and YES! about the ignore list. I guess when she gets older our next “big talk” will be about trolls and why not to feed them.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. We appreciate it!

You two are very cute I hope Anet will make SAB permanently _ I just love it! <3

Aww, thank you Kyo. I hope they will, too. Even if not now or when they release World 3, I hope when all the content has been seen and our Super Adventures are done, they will keep it a permanent feature of the game. Thank you for reading.

Even three years old girls can play on normal, and you’re still reducing difficulty?..

Nice video, btw =)

And people still complain that it’s “too hard!” /facepalm! As long as we play Infantile she can play all the zones by herself. If we play on normal she needs help with a lot of areas, especially in world 2.

Thank you for watching.

So adorable! Now I wish I had a kid, too.

But I really want to finish college first (I don’t have time or money to raise a child). And I would have to find a boyfriend/husband, too. That’s kinda important, the husband part lol

Does she have a 3DS? Or if she doesn’t, are you getting her one (or maybe a 2DS would be better for someone at her age)? Because she would probably love the Zelda OoT remake. Also, new Pokémon games are coming out next month, maybe she would like them too.

Thank you for watching! I’m fortunate enough to have a wonderful fiance who has allowed me to not work to raise our daughter and pursue my dream of owning my own horse training and riding lesson barn, so when we’re not riding, I am able to play with her in things like SAB. We do have an N64 and she’s played OoT a few times (only to ride Epona), but the controller is a little bit too big for her to really get a handle on. She plays often on my PS3, Sonic and Spyro and Crash. I have a regular DS but our dog decided to eat my charger so it’s been out of commission for awhile. That would be great for her to play Zelda on, it’s much more her size. Thank you for the suggestion! I have a Gameboy with Pokemon Red. I will see if she would like that! What a great idea! I love Pokemon, she might too!
