And you do know that if the boss dies while you’re defeated, you get nothing from it, no matter how much damage you did.
Did this always used to happen? I noticed yesterday during a TA run, I died literally seconds before the boss was downed and got nothing from the boss itself, missing out on one of those bags. Sucks if this is intentional.

I’ve taken a break, that’s the beauty of the B2P model, no sub that makes me feel like I should be logging in.
I am concerned about end game, grinding dungeons isn’t something I’m fond of (including fractals), the useful crafting materials can only be got at level appropriate areas, which is a shame, a low chance to get useful mats in other areas would see me revisit them more. The armour I want to make requires a tonne of grinding, drop rates are so poor in this game it puts me off, not fun. I’m leveling a couple more alts when I get back, once they are max, not sure what I will do, it’s a great journey but there needs to be more to keep me involved in end game.
I’d like to see:
Horizontal Progression – more skills that aren’t just unlocks but that need to be hunted down and learned/captured.
Player/Guild Housing – A good housing system would keep me enthralled for a long time.
Crafting – Hard to get recipes, recipes for crafters not the mystic forge. Crafters at end game need something to strive for. Ties in with housing.
It’s a great game but so far end game is messy, it doesn’t live up to ‘every area is end game’ simply because the drops aren’t there, Fractals and ascended gear shouldn’t have been introduced, they shifted the focus for a lot of players, may well have retained players but like any gear grind it’s going to be short lived. It’s like Anet aren’t sure any more of what end game is, that’s how it feels to me.
I’m interested to see how it turns as the new content and patches roll in, and as I stated earlier, no sub to keep me tied, there’s plenty of other stuff to play in the mean time. Disappointed it’s not the world that would hold me as I’d hoped, but I’m not ruling out that it could be further down the line.
I really miss first person view, such a beautiful game and no way to make good videos of it without relying on vistas or static shots because your character is lying down. Please implement this Anet, with such great graphics the video community would have a great time with this game, let’s not forget about the free promotion that comes with that
Thank you so much for letting us know! So pleased about this for so many reasons
It was handy being able to preview armour for other classes, I don’t understand why it was removed. When a guildy proudly wants to link the skin they just got only the same armour type wearers will be able to see it now, that’s a real shame. Please revert it back.
I was surprised to see this happen too. It was handy, you didn’t have to be on your heavy armour wearing character when you looked at karma vendors to see what was available to them, or to see the linked items your guild mates are showing off in chat. Would love it if this was reverted.
Casino gambling in the gem store again….
Anetyou will never learn.Correction:
Casino gambling in the gem store again….
Players you will never learn.
Blame the drug dealer or the addict? Anet didn’t have to include gambling via RNG with cash items, responsibility is at their door for providing the option. Responsibility is up to the individual regarding buying them. I don’t agree with RNG cash items, it’s bad for the consumer (odds against you getting what you want), it’s also feeding in to that buzz of gambling. Don’t support it, won’t buy them, won’t give Anet any more money while they continue these shenanigans . I do want to support Anet, the majority of the game is superb, I have supported in the past would like to in the future.

For the 17th at The Black Citadel, it mentions he’s there for one day only. No reason to believe that Black Citadel is the only one honoured enough to have him the whole day
It would be awesome fun having a PvP version BUT there would need to be a PvE version too. I’m rubbish at PvP but it would still be fun having groups battle it out to get to the top, but then again I’m rubbish at jumping too, most of the laughs would probably be at my expense.
I am expecting the usual ‘evil’ Anet mechanics, getting blown off or knocked off is highly likely, this should be fun
Watches video, feels like a kid at Christmas, grins from ear to ear
Welcome to Tyria!
The world never ceases to amaze me, after three months my jaw still drops at the sights and sounds the world has to offer. Enjoy!
The rampaging bots that occurred in this game at the start, will have repercussions on the economy for the next 6 months, we are being asked (without it being made explicit) for us to “suck-up” these painful low drop rates and DR for a while, whilst the developer gets things back on track and “normalizes” the economy.
You know if Anet came out and said this was the reason, I would accept it and move on knowing that things would get better in the long run. As it stands the silence allows for too much tin hat conjecture, a logical reason would put a stop to that and we can take our flaming torches and put them out.
The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons
From the patch notes of the 15th November, didn’t happen, veterans and champions still not dropping anything of value 95% of the time, hasn’t been fixed. From that it’s obvious that this is deliberate, as has been said elsewhere if it goes for us (dye drops) it’s nerfed in to the ground, goes against us and it’s left alone with no official response. It’s been almost a month now and nothing has been addressed.
I’m losing faith, my wallet is closed and has been since the Halloween chest debacle, it will remain so. I see no point in supporting a game that is failing to support its players or provide any form of transparency or any kind of feedback on an issue that affects everyone.
That’s great, nice work
Hey all. There was a typo in that note. It has been fixed, here’s how the fix was actually applied:
- Area of effect heals and boons now prioritize players over minions and NPCs.
Phew thanks for clearing that up!
I think the OP has a point but telling people to grow up isn’t going to endear you to people. Telling people to relax and think may have been better
So Anet have introduced a gear grind for those that wanted it, it only stops us playing a tiny percentage of the current content unless we gear up (Fractals after a certain level), gear grinders have something to achieve now, those of us that don’t want that kind of game can successfully ignore it up until a point when progress becomes impeded through gear requirements. So what about those of us who don’t want content gated by gear, who aren’t prepared to grind to continue in difficulty levels, what can Anet do to appease us?
If Anet can provide an alternate, with cosmetic rewards as the carrot so grinders and non grinder alike can play that tiny bit of content I’ll be a happier man. Perhaps an alternate route that doesn’t include Agony where the rewards are better looking recipes for crafters (Mystic Forge kills us post exotics), unique looking gear skins and maybe mini pets and that ever elusive gold.
I want harder, more challenging content, I went just rewards for it too but stats to me aren’t an issue as long as I can complete the content.
As for WvW – just don’t let that gear be equipped or introduce it as rewards for playing WvW and fast!
Now my first reactions were to scream at Anet for introducing a gear grind when the promise was for none, now that I’ve relaxed and thought about it I can see solutions, that’s not about growing up that’s about a passionate gamer relaxing a little
People love the fractals, I know I do but please don’t take that as an acceptance of what the problems are.
Fractals are going to be the be all and end all of endgame content, adding another stat increase is helping that a long nicely, but from where I’m sitting it’s to the detriment of the rest of the game. Pumping effort in to creating more is all well and good but it’s going to be practically impossible to pull the min-maxers out of there now, let alone the gates to participation we are going to continue to get, encouraged by your mechanics. Late comers aren’t going to have a hope in hell of getting in a PUG.
I feel really sad about whats happening now. I wish you luck on improving the rest of the game but I find it hard to believe you’ll be able to get people away from the fractals now that you’ve implemented it.
Rest of the game is great, love it, such a shame a fundamental change happened to the detriment of that (mostly) great content.
Yes!
It’s what I loved about GW, no worrying about stats just focus on playing the game.
Not only should there be a cap but, it should also reset every week. At this rate the community will be so segregated that no one will be able to find people to play with.
I think the problem with a reset is that it adds a further gate to content, this way people have the chance to catch up. The casuals that never got past lvl 2 in a week get knocked back down the same as the hard core at level 15, the casuals never get to see the harder content and better loot. At least this way there’s a way to catch up until infusions are required.
Some people will have to stop and help others out, does doing a lvl 1 dungeon to help a friend knock out your lvl 15 status ?
Maybe you should stop trying to grind Orr for 6 months straight and check out the fun stuff that was added to the game instead. Dungeons have much better loot, Fractals are a great challenge with great rewards, and all 55+ zones drop max level items.
Yet you’re sitting in Cursed Shore trying to do Shelter/Penintent for the trillionth time, tagging as many monsters as possible in a brainless zerg for hours on end and all for what? A shiny weapon skin? Wouldn’t you rather… play the game? Have fun, make friends, do dungeons, explore the world?
I honestly cannot get behind the mentality it takes to actually want to sit at the same 2 events and do them hundreds of times a day every day for 6 months. It’s unhealthy and I am glad that ArenaNet is taking measures to prevent that kind of play (and to provide alternatives).
If people wanted to grind the same spots what is the problem when it doesn’t effect you? Taking away options instead of adding them is not the best way to go about it, give people other things to do that provide the same risk vs reward. I’m hoping that this is a bug and not another example of making content redundant.
Meant to say PvE, but the point stands. You’ll still be able to do all of the old PvE content with exotics (like we already do). But more than that, how are people making estimates before it’s out?
Anyway, if that is true, and it is about a 40% increase in effectiveness, that’s utter insanity—I don’t think ANet would make it that hard.Lfm dungeon run , ascended geared only, whisper gear or no invite.
“LFM dungeon run, Exotic geared only, whisper gear or no invite.”
Last I checked, that hasn’t taken over the game. Ascended gear won’t either. The sky isn’t falling just yet, Chicken Little.
Oh it will start as people start hitting the content that needs the infusions to succeed, this is a very deliberate gate that doesn’t exist with rares versus exotics, we all know that current content can be completed without exotics easily enough, currently there is no solid gate to content but it’s coming….
Gated content and the introduction of new gear level does not sound like the GW2 I bought in to, it’s a great shame there felt a need to go down this route. The MMO hoppers will rejoin for the few hours to grind the new gear then pfft gone again, meanwhile those of us who bought in to the vision are looking on in disappointment and concern as to where this might lead.
Infusions through the Mystic Forge? RNG- the lazy way out to create longevity in content, the Mystic Forge and RNG seems to have become the favourite crutch of Anet , I’m hoping I’m wrong on that . I’m not feeling optimistic about some of the post release decisions being made.
Please stop with the gates and gear grind for superior stats and for the love of all that is good, think outside the box and please come up with something better than RNG!
Lost count of how many times I’ve tried and failed, not very good at jumping puzzles, that doesn’t make it any less awesome though, love it
Colour me impressed! Act2 is awesome, well done!
RNG in a cash shop item is obviously a cash grab, gambling isn’t something I choose to support either. I used to love you Anet now I’m not so sure….You’ll be getting absolutely no gem purchasers from me during this event, and well done for tarnishing what should have been a wonderful time.
I’m not blaming the players for gambling away their cash and having no self control, ArenaNet put the system in place, they are the ones that enable the gambling and therefore need to take 100% responsibility for the bad press this is receiving.
I feel bad for supporting the company now on other forums in the way I have, I thought you were different, but obviously not.
So my recommendation to people thinking about the game is: Great game just don’t trust what they’ll do with the cash shop.
F2P titles can get away with this kind of cash grab because they don’t get any other income, I’m not seeing the difference with your B2P cash shop now except it cost me an extra £65?
Brilliant game, sadly marred by the inclusion of cash shop RNG, please do the right thing and get rid of it.
I wanted to inject something, because it’s very relevant to the entire concept that players need to be prevented from advancing too quickly, or playing too much.
I hit the level cap with my Elementalist at around the 135 hour mark. I have now logged almost 245 hours with that same character. I haven’t touched a dungeon yet. I have only done a little WvW and even less sPvP. I have never sat in one place grinding. I’ve bought or crafted the more easily available Exotics as I’ve been able to afford to during normal play, currently two accessories short of a full set of exotic armor, accessories and three exotic weapons.
I haven’t played to pursue the End Game Gear Grind. I’ve played to have fun enjoying the game world. I still only have map completion in the 60s. I play the game like it’s one massive Skyrim and have been having a blast doing so.
The original design was correct. The entire game is “end game” There is no need for an “end game gear grind”. It doesn’t matter one spit that I hit the level cap in two weeks, or that I have over 365 hours of total time played on my account. I was still having a blast playing the game as it was originally intended!
The original design worked! I can not say it too many times or stress it enough.
What ever panic mode the developers got themselves in over people getting “too quickly” to the level cap or logging hundreds of hours, well, they need to just quit it! There was nothing, I repeat nothing to panic over. Nada!
The original design worked! Go back to the original design concept and get off of the two generations gone concept that you need an end game gear grind with this game!
Creating a gear grind was a completely wrong turn for the game. You created demand for RMT gold that never would have existed if you had just had faith in the original design. Making the End Game Gear Grind even more difficult, by implementing a DR system that effects real players, is just digging the hole even deeper. Stop it!
The game does not and never has needed an End Game Gear Grind. Period. There doesn’t need to be ANY artificial limitation on a real player’s ability to play as many hours a day as they desire. Period.
The game, as originally designed, is and was good for several hundreds of hours of play with a single character and the replayability and fun factor was indeed large enough to allow people who played one character for 300-400 hours to embrace the idea of doing so again, and again, with additional characters!
Stop the “OMG, people are playing the game too much and hitting the cap too quickly” panic. It’s a relic of the past and was irrelevant to the game, until you MADE it relevant by creating a massive grind where NONE was needed!
The Original Design Worked! Stop finding ways to break it, wound it or kill it!
Some of your players have made the paradigm shift, why are some at Arenanet failing to see the paradigm shift the game’s design created?
I agree with a lot of what you say here. GW2 is an amazing game, a fantastic journey. There is no sub fee, there is no need to keep people hanging around grinding for gear. I’m sure most people will spend in the gem store while leveling, it’s plateaued for me now I’m at max. If people suss how the game is meant to be played and take a different approach – go discover the content, they’ll get a hell of a lot more out of it.
Thing is there are so many people stuck in the old ways of grinding for gear that it’s a playstyle they want to keep pursuing, you cant force them to go explore the map or discover all the wonders hidden across the world, they’ll come to that if they want to, upsetting them is not the way to encourage it. The gear is all mindset is so deeply entrenched, getting people to stop with the ‘end game it’s all about Orr’ way of thinking isn’t going to be helped by a counter intuitive measure to stifle a grind that’s been put in by you the developer in the first place. These people have bought the game, if they leave once they are max geared then fine, their loss, you’ve got their money, they’ll be back when updates and content are available. People like me have this horrible feeling that my next alt is going to struggle, I loved leveling my first character, now I’m demotivated, I want her to be able to craft gear appropriate to her needs and level, DR on drops makes me think twice about that, I didnt mind spending a few hours farming to keep my gear relevant while leveling up my main, wont be able to do that on my alt, makes the crafting system less attractrive, a system that actually gave you the better stuff for your level.
It’s not a deal breaker for me, I’m in a great guild, we love the content, we have a blast. I fully intend on leveling alts and hanging around, this just seems like a shadow on the horizon that really doesnt need to be there.

Thank you for sharing that story, so pleased you found a great way to escape from the daily problems you must face and have some fun with your beloved! An uplifting read
Happy Anniversary!
Same on Piken Square, been like this for at least 10 days.
What I loved about crafting on my first character was being able to equip myself throughout the leveling process, if I needed to go spend two hours farming mosquitoes for their venom sacks I would. It was great to be able to be self sufficient by crafting gear that was relevant to my level, I don’t see that as a reasonable option now. To avoid DR I’d have to keep moving areas, the waypoint cost then needs to be factored in, money is not prolific in this game and wasting time zoning to the Mists>LA>Closest city isn’t an attractive option either. I’m happy to work (Grind) for my craft but with so many obstacles it’s not an attractive proposition any more, I’m just glad I’ve got a lvl 80 who can support my second characters crafting by providing a little cash for TP purchases.
My lvl 80 rarely has above 1 gold, he’s probably level 87 by now and still hasn’t got his last trait book. Dungeons can cost more than they reward, long chained DE’s in high level areas stop producing loot before I’m even half way through them.
I love the game but this is really disheartening
Has anyone come across the recipe for this? A guild member asked if a tailor had the recipe, I tried loads of combinations (there goes my money again!) but sadly no joy.
I’ve been waiting for this game ever since it was announced, it seemed like a long wait but now it’s finally here it was worth the wait. I’m having a blast in Tyria, haven’t had this much fun since GW. My whole guild is here and we are loving being back together in such a beautiful environment. Thanks for taking the risks and evolving the genre, what I love the most is the emphasis on community and how game mechanics work to make you embrace other players rather than be concerned about them, that in itself is a revolutionary step. Loving it, thank you for the obvious love and commitment you’ve made to the game and its community!
