Actually the fact that Dungeon runs are more of a grind and not something you do for the fun of it is a glaring negative point.

Tell me those guys that are LFG all the time actually like to do the same thing over and over again? No, the drive is the gear, and sometimes it take longer than expected. Items should be account bound, so multiple characters can share the same item of the specific stats, if you want something else, then of course you have to re-run.

I am one of those guys that are LFG all the time and like doing the dungeon.

Same dungeon same paths.. again and again everyday?

Then I salute you.. lol. Tell me if you are the majority or minority, because you sir are the first I heard so far. What if there were no tokens, will you still do it everyday?

The only fun part of a dungeon could be when the first time you run it, or with a bunch of friendly chaps. That is about 50-50 chance as those dungeon grinders usually don’t have good temper and understandably and rightly so.

Another interesting part of dungeon is when you run Arah, some good fights in there, but then it takes so long and there is no continue button. Sometimes people leave halfway and the rest are stranded, and could just leave the dungeon empty handed. That’s fun at first then an anticlimax finish. Lack of a looking for party function made things more awkward.

Players have a choice? Yes, for pve, no dungeons means crafting, karma farming or 100% map achievement or dragons. A lot of choices? No, they are all of the same category actually. The Halloween kind of saved the scenario as it is indeed something new, but now.. sometimes you just sit at LA doing nothing then log out.

If you like pvp then lucky for you, spvp is made for you.

So the last thing people are left to do is actually wvw. It can be quite fun for most people if you are sync at the right time zone.

Hey Nel, thank you for your detailed feedback, it showed you really spent time and effort to go through it. I’m not that good with numbers so I’ve declared that all figures are for examples only, but it is great that you gave advice on them. Perhaps if certain abilities and numbers are tweaked then it can be a lot more reasonable and playable.

Some skills might have been misunderstood like the Ghastly Arrow, yes it go through terrain, but you must first have a valid target to lock on and in range to cast the skill. It only hits a target, the first one it touches.

Totem of Steel Body, the damage is actually scaled on the defender’s armor, which gave rise to the skill name, if you have a tougher armor, it’ll hurt the aggressor more. Again the numbers could be way off, haha. I actually like the idea, but maybe the numbers make it look outrageous in your view, just like the other Totem.

It is common for people to just take a look at skills and skip the traits, but when you really start playing a profession, traits are actually equally or more important. I like some of the ideas and synergy in the traits but again, I wouldn’t say that they are under or over-powered, the numbers are there to help understand the ability better.

If done properly… a LFG function could help resolve certain problems. Better than everyone shouting randomly in different maps and LA.

Also can help fixed the kicking issues as the party is registered at the function too.

Continue to have special events like Halloween.

There is very limited pve stuffs.. it is either farming karma, or dungeon, both is quite sick if your there just for farming. There is not so much things you can do as a group or individuals, well maybe dragons.

spvp is okay if you enjoy it… so the only other thing is wvw.

The Halloween offered a new thing to do… the dungeon is fine, the events that build up is good too, some games are like the mini games of WC3 lol. I like the MK popping up of LA once a while, if he really eventually comes out, it’ll be awesome, but not sure what type of event it’ll become.

Also like to see the stores be tangible too, while gem store only used for services e.g. booster pack, transmutation stones. Fashion, hair, gear etc could really use a shop and vendor in LA.

Don’t like it being zoom out too much, as it gives a birds eye view, especially in a pvp scenario it is not that nice, the suspense is taken away.

Zoom out in MK dungeon is okay though, because it is a pve instance and it is nice to have whatever distance you like.

Tokens bugged after patch?

Yesterday, I got 45 tokens then 30 tokens for Cof… so I stopped, it is the first time I run it in a few days. Teammates got 60 tokens… Today I ran again, got 60 toks. For those who got similar encounters, do you guys have a lot tokens like enough for 2-3 equipments of that particular dungeon in your account? I’m not sure if that’s the reason though.

Lord Aargadon, I don’t think the name of a Guardian is acceptable. A name is the cover page of a book, if it is not right, it probably would not draw your attention or you would not pick it up.

As for the skills and traits, I feel they complement each other, but we’ll only know the answer if we get to use it in “beta”. Haha.. I also believe the appearance and animations (skills etc) of a profession can also affect the way you view it. So off the internet, and it all starts from the point of making your character. I think Anet can do well because they are pretty good at packaging and introducing their offers. But to meet expectations, they could really seek users’ feedback. As for the profession, I think it’ll work, in more simple words, I wanna use it.

Nevertheless, it is always good if more people could share their ideas to refine something, there is where the feedback come useful… I’m sure there could be some brilliant ideas that didn’t strike me.

Guild Wars 2 – Monk

Monk are holy followers, often dedicating their entire life to pursue their strong beliefs.

Nevertheless life is a journey and the only constant is change. There is no fixed path or way of life for monks. At different stages, they adopt different means, quickly adapting to the changing environment.

Monk are primarily a combat profession. Their skills vary from close combat, strategic skirmish, to the more sacred spells. A lot of their time have been spent in cultivation, managing conditions and channeling negativity into other forms. They possess resolute mental strength, stamina and have high vitality. They are very versatile fighters and likewise protectors.

Monk wear light armor but can be often identified in multiple appearances. Some appear in a more holy bishop outfit, others in a medieval monk cape, traveler clothing, and also but not limited to chinese monk robes and martial arts gear.


The following contents consist of skills and traits of the Monk. Please note that all numbers serve as a guide and are not conclusive.

It took quite some time to come out with the details of this age-old yet exciting profession. Hope you can take some time to look through the contents as a whole.

I’ve also created a thread at gw2guru which I feel could be a better consolidation and discussion forum.

The details are listed in online word document for better and more comprehensive viewing. They are separated into two files, one on skills and the other solely on traits. Last but not least, I would like to thank you for your time.

Well, if they made it too difficult, then the personal story is not so personal anymore lol. There are some parts of the story that you cant really do alone, and this is one of them.

I have a suspicious feeling that Zhaitan is far from dead, and he’ll return in the next expansion as an elder dragon, stronger than Jormag.

Kicked from group for being too low level

Only AC last path requires higher level players, otherwise hard to complete and nobody gets any reward.

The other 2 paths can be achieved with 2-3 lower level guys, just a bit more difficult.. if you need the level just re-run path 1, think people are more willing to accept low level guys in that.

If your entire group don’t even have a fully geared 80, then goodluck, don’t think Anet made dungeons friendly for those parties, which I think for the 2 lower level dungeons, they should have at least 1 path easier for those in full team of mid-levels.

If you are good then fight inside the arena… but you shouldn’t penalised those who are not as well equipped or as skilled. It still take teamwork throughout the entire dungeon.

Path 4 is too long.. only good if you have lots of time and a very organised team, otherwise don’t go wasting time there. Like I said before, I believe every dungeon should have 1 more difficult path, then the rest more achievable.. well except for Arah, everything is up another notch.

Lost dungeon tokens

I feel it is quite idiotic of the vendor to not purchase back dungeon tokens for unwanted items acquired. At least return partial of the tokens as the runs are really a grind and a pain, nobody in the right frame of mind would do the same runs over and over again rather than doing something else in the game.

I was previewing some stuffs from multiple vendors, then supposedly double click an item when trying to navigate around, and I bought a weapon I can’t even use for my profession… and it is soulbound on acquire. How does this even make sense? 300 toks for a weapon I can’t equip.

I guess it is a matter of time.

Probably one of the reasons why there is few character optimization at the start. I guess putting it in Gem Store was the initial thought. Don’t believe then look around, I see many similar faces and clothing especially the human/norn lol.

I’ll definitely prefer to see a tangible shop rather than purchasing something of the Gem Store, and I believe many will feel this way too.

What I meant is a shop in one of the many shophouses in Lion Arch offering Barber services. Inside there you can speak to a NPC who’ll sell you new hairstyles etc for Gem.

This can be applied to Tailor shop too, for more new gears in future. A mixed of Gold, Gem and Karma for different customization can also be considered.

Is there anywhere we can share our ideas on new stuffs, and also participate in sensible discussions.

So I’ve been spending the last grogy half a day on trying to fine tune the profession mechanics and for the first time I am quite happy with it.

I don’t think this forum has a good place to discuss about new professions/skills/races etc. I’ve looked at other options like Guru and they don’t seem to have a subforum dedicated to such game ideas suggestions too.

Anyway I’ll continue working on it for the meanwhile as it is still at very primary stage, and hope it won’t just be stuck on my tabletop only, for the start, my opinion on such a class is that there is no fixed or correct type of “Monk” or whatever you call it, and that is my direction.

I’ll certainly consider buying expansions if they have attractive new race/profession/looks. If just for new areas, at the moment I don’t think it is that big a draw as discussed elsewhere. PvE will require more drawing power to simply just depend on new maps for expansions. Some people talk about the many things you can do, but for PvE it is not that many and it is not right to assume that everybody will like to do every single one of it.

Actually I have a question on what the free camera does? It seems to be always locked.

For example when my character is running, I can’t seem to choose another angle to look for as my character will automatically run in the direction I am looking at…. is this even free?

E.g. My character is running forward, but want my camera to look at the side views of the character (i.e. left or right). So if enabled, I’ll be looking at my character side view+background, while he’s running straight ahead.

I think this camera option is lacking too right??

Although I don’t approve of botters, some lower level areas could actually use their help as population is not that high, especially if there is DE.

I think a suitable action will be to warn them first, after 3-5 days if it still continues, then something has to be done as it is an insult to the game and other real players. Probably ban for 1 week first.

What are they looking for anyway, just power level with bots? Some have funny names that I think nobody would want too lol.

I thought this is one of the better made dungeons… with 1 straightforward path, 1 average, and 1 tough path.

The hard hitting mobs are not fast, it is the swarm that you have to watch out for.

Do it a few more times and you’ll feel AC is not ridiculous, the hard one, path 3 I shall just call it challenging.

And I like the idea of 2 fairly achievable paths, and 1 tougher path for those who like to test their limits. CoF is also in this category.

That is with a very solid and experienced team, you can go through 2 paths without any death. With an average team or with newbies, a couple of deaths will be expected in the “achievable” paths.

I’d like to see more rewarding Karma:

1. For characters who help in lower level DE

2. In other’s personal story

3. Repeating dungeon story mode should reward karma

All of the above makes a lot more sense than camping DE in high level areas to farm karma. Everyone needs to get karma, so make it more helpful in the process of obtaining it.

Once level 80, different DE should have close to similar karma, people will just farm karma for their personal need, so it doesn’t matter where it is, but it’ll be much more helpful if they are in a lower level maps too rather than concentrated in a high level map, leaving the lower level places rather quiet except for the dungeon maps, admittedly some maps will always be more quiet than others and that is okay. Of course the higher level maps should still get more karma, otherwise it’ll be totally empty. The way the DE chain works will also affect population in a place.

Karma makes a lot more sense if say a level 80, going to a level 20 place to help out a group of people.


Saw the discussion about WP… I feel the prices are okay as of now because there are things you can do to get money too, and it is convenient to use WP at that cost.

But a helpful suggestion could be cheaper WP cost for lower level maps and towns that you have 100% discovery.

The Legendary Staff

If I’m right, there are 3 legendary for each weapon? Imo that is a good number to have, not too much and not too little.

I haven’t seen all legendary weapon, so can’t really comment on the looks and effects(still or when in used), which are the basics. It is all down to personal preference too, sometimes getting used to something new takes time, especially since legendary is so “new” and uncommon now.

They won’t want to damage the reputation/goodwill of “no monthly subscription” for sure… that is one of the largest drawing factor and you’ll be hurting them instead of helping.

Money is money, and I don’t see why you can’t buy gems instead lol.

I actually started coming up with a few skills and ideas for this profession the last 2 weeks, but there isn’t a good place to post it for discussions so it halted and just on paper now, haha. Also Gw2 seemed to be having lots of existing issues right now to be thinking of something completely new.

Sometimes I get interesting ideas of the games I played and like to share them, when I was playing Dota, I suggest new heros, skills and stuffs. And I think one of the later heroes got a very similar skill from me lol, they just change the name and stuffs. But of course, there is no exclusive idea in this well-connected world right now.

Maybe we can have a subforum for profession/race/skills suggestions.

Payed 60$ and no Fishing?

I thought it is a good idea, not for farming gold or what but as a hobby.

When you fish, it is not just about your catch, it is also taking a break, going for an adventure and enjoying the scenery. Gw2 has some very nice scenery, like Gendarran lakes etc. I’m sure the team will want people to enjoy their work on that too.

A good bonus feature to have imo. Implementing it correctly can be a challenge though. An easier way could be just fishing straight for consumables.. with different gear, catches & items from different places.

I suggest the option for dungeons equipments to be sell back to vendor for the same dungeon tokens.

Maybe implement a small fee, it could be return 5silvers to return per item, or simply getting back only 80-90% of the tokens spent for that equipment.

It allows the flexibility between different builds and characters without needing to grind the same dungeon to get a different piece.

Of course if you want an extra piece of equipment for use or something from another dungeon, then you have to run dungeons again.

Actually I feel HotW is one of the more enjoyable places, partly due to the scenery and the way the dungeon is set up.

Path 1 is good, straight forward and simple.

Path 2 is average, I’ll leave it that way, but with shorter HP for each of the 2 huge ice boss monsters early on and the last water boss. It is just time consuming when the team already get the technique right. The middle boss with 2 Quaggans is the tough one.

Path 3 is okay. The last water boss could use a slight boost.

After these, I think it’ll be one of the most enjoyable and well-made dungeons at the moment.

Yea certain dungeon paths are very tough and members get frustrated.. sometimes they just leave, leaving the rest stranded and empty handed after spending a few hours. It is not easy to find replacements right now, if only something like party finding tool is implemented (like FF11).

Getting kicked out having done nothing wrong is worse… although I haven’t experienced it but it must have been very frustrating.

Therefore, I think dungeons paths should be more rewarding for those who failed to complete. Those “bonus events” are good, it is like a DE in a dungeon.

And certain tough bosses should give partial reward too (partial tokens), or maybe just Arah. That leaves Arah the worse dungeon now, there was once when we beat the Gigantic Lup, and team got frustrated with the later Melandru boss or something, we left with massive number of deaths in 5 hrs and 0 reward. It is so discouraging.

I also believe in the policy of having different difficulty path in dungeons, out of the 3 paths, 1 path should be harder than the rest. For example, CoF.. this dungeons is well-made. So for those who want a challenge, the tougher path is the one they can go for.

Perhaps only Arah can be difficult for all paths since it is like the “highest” level of dungeon, but at least reward when necessary and not till the end.
