EotM is the beer and pretzels version of BL wvw.
(1) Better loot drops. Loot in this game is worse than pathetic.
(2) Interesting items to spend WvW badges on.
I have to admit, I read the subject as “I just don’t like doing daylilies…” I don’t like the new structure to the dailies, preferred the old ones.
Fish in WoW. Bobsled in GW2!
In exchange for making life very inconvenient for all normal players, all a gold seller has to do is buy the buyer’s 400g trading post listing. Gold is exchanged, seller is mildly bothered, everybody else has to deal with this headache for all time.

This. Not sure gold sellers really do much damage, it’s their spamming that’s the nuisance.
WvW in Season 2 means getting my achievements than doing something else for a while. I’ll come back to it, but not for a few weeks.
Mtpelion has it mostly right. I’m sure if there’s a one or two copper difference between the buy and sell, then few of us would hesitate to buy from the sell orders. I look at the difference between the buy and sell orders, particularly for low budget items. If the difference is pretty small, usually within 3-4 copper, then I don’t really care about buying from sell orders. However, if I’m making or buying large quantities of something, or if the item has greater value, then I’ll watch that difference more closely and buy using buy orders.
The game is grindy if you want legendaries or even ascended gear. Other aspects are less grindy. If you don’t mind average gear, even above average gear, then it’s not grindy but there’s no real gear progression and the loot is pretty pathetic, so yeah, grindy if you care about those things. I tire of the pathetic loot.
I thought EotM was supposed to have incoming players shuffled so there would always be even numbers on each side. Pretty silly not to do it this way.
I haven’t updated my spreadsheet on damask cloth in a while. In the first few days since it came out I was making 4-6 g profit on it. The last few I sold were netting around 1.5 g each. I tend not to play the TP too much in GW2 as I burned out on it in WoW. Cormac is correct, though, one must check the material prices to be sure there is profit to be had.
I make 4-5 gold per day just selling one baked item from cooking. I’ve made a fair bit off damask cloth. I know peeps can do well on some of the lower crafted components that are used to make final crafted items, but I haven’t really bothered with it. As with most crafting games, diversity and knowing your markets are a must for profiting.
EotM is PVE as a zerg. I don’t find it fun although it’s good that some people do. WvW has been hit or miss. The constant matchup with first and second place holders has been wearing down the less hard core players, but I understand the reasoning.
Take off all of your traits, use blue gear or no gear, don’t use food or oil…
Have your leveling friend use green gear with good runes/sigils, food and oil…
I prefer the old daily system. I liked the combination of PVE and WvW objectives and there were more of them so you could mix and match easier. New system offers less choice, less flexibility, and less interest.
EotM is bad, but it’s good for ore.
Spring semester is in full swing. With finals around the corner, it wouldn’t surprise me if most college kids were busy preparing (read: faking it) for finals. :-)
Some people will complain about anything! Dropping repair costs is a positive move, everyone will benefit from it. I think it should have a low priority over issues that need fixing, but I, for one, am happy to see it go.
Small wrap up on Scarlett, probably buggy as hell just like everything else.
The most difficult part of this patch.

Most difficult part has been doing LA more than once.
So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1

I rather enjoyed the marionette portion except for the epic fail (5/40 attempts). The fights were actually pretty fun. I give that one 6/10 because of the group fail mechanic. The wurms weren’t my thing, but I think some people enjoyed them, maybe.
I liked the first LA encounter as saving the citizens was fun and I thought the achievements weren’t to onerous. Plus the timer and timing was good. I give this one a 9/10. I did it many, many times.
I didn’t like the latest LA encounter as it was far too buggy. I feel as if I wasted 4-5 evenings on it and that’s no fun. The game mechanics of the holograms went on far too long, gave me several headaches, and to fail at the end of it was like flushing that hour of my life down the toilet. That’s not a particularly good game design. I’m not an achievement hunter but I thought they weren’t very good because of the bugs. I give this one a 4/10. The only reason I still do it is because I can knock out a couple of daily quests pretty easily.
I liked the arcing storyline for Scarlett, but I have to admit, I didn’t really read through all the dialogue and intentionally skipped parts of it. Nice to see her get it in the end.
EotM feels more like a group PVE battlefield than a wvw one. It was sold as the answer to wvw queues, but the long runs back to the action, poor communcations, too many PVE situations, large size, and tortuous pathways make it far less appealing to me. I think most wvw fans feel the same way as I keep seeing them in regular borderlands. I rate EotM as a 3/10 and haven’t been back to it since playing on it 4-5 times. It may get better once Season 2 starts.
All I say is, as soon as people would have to adapt to a mechanic that requires to move out of a red cycle close to a boss, ends in people complaining.
God forbid, that standing in melee range would cause people to still take care of some calls every now and then…
One problem with melee is that it’s hard to see the red circles amid all of the screen clutter. It would be nice if bosses had cast timers as it’s can be difficult to see the mechanic going off or what it means. Not all of us have top of the line gaming computers and I imagine screen clutter is still a problem on those.
Karma trains work pretty well for fragments and other materials. Thursday and Friday are perfect times for it.
I’ve gotten my $50 worth of game play. Now the beta testing aspect has gotten to me and I’m looking at some other games.

I’ve just stopped doing this event completely. It’s not worth the effort, plus the mechanics and color flashes give me a headache.

I’ve wasted 3 hours on bugged knights and holograms and failed hologram attempts. This event is a poorly implemented beta, I’d like my time back please.
Heh, yeah. If ANet doesn’t make them sellable, it’s just going to turn into an annoyance. “Oh yay, a Blade Shard. An extra item to have to delete from my inventory…”
The game has to be balanced between catering towards hardcore players and casuals. The casual might have a hard time earning those ~900 shards for an ascended backpack while the hardcore player will have plenty more stacks than he needs.
Easy to balance this by making more items like this be available on the TP.

Didn’t like this event. Will be glad when it’s over.
Knights aren't dropping loot [Resolved]
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Still borked. 5 knights tonight, 4 full on dps, still no loot drops. If it’s dps-based, that won’t bode well for stopping to help downed players. At least the Hologram bug has been fixed.
Avoid buying the armor when it’s levels are in multiples of 10 or at x5. Otherwise it’s safe.

Count your treasure. All I got was a bugged boss and an hour of seemingly endless grind…
Bugged with 7:53 minutes left. No damage. FA overflow. Quite annoying…
Scepter is a great ranged weapon. Learn to use it for kiting/pulling. At 76 you can get some decent karma gear. Get some cheap major runes (scholar or divinity) and get at least 4 of these runes for the set bonus. Get a cheap but effective superior sigil for your weapons or some decent major sigils. For open world stuff, your build won’t matter too much, spec into some toughness if you’re having trouble. For ranged opponents, definitely use sword or wall of reflection. Swap weapons to your advantage.
Escape from LA - Critique and How To Improve

1) Given the poor loot in the “save the citizen” bags, I don’t really see this as an issue. Zergs contribute in some small way to saving citizens by keeping some zones relatively clear. The north door for Gendaren is a good example.
2) I’ve seen a few AFK, but not enough to worry about it. There’s always a few bad apples and too many rules to account for them. Maybe just have an activity log inside the zone? If inactive, DC in 5 minutes. If you’re afk for longer, then come back later.
3) Zergs are fine. Sometimes I like to go with the flow, sometimes I don’t. I’ve seen numerous people out and about away from zergs. This event has something for everyone.
4) Miasmas don’t scale well. They’re a challenge and I’ve only seen a few successful triple plays. Retooling their scaling would make them far more enjoyable as well as more winnable. I’ve seen the ground literally covered with fire zones, can only dodge so many.
5) My gripe is the useless currency. With every new LS we get more useless currency that clutters up bag space. The vendors now have more general stuff, but for the most part, the currency is useless. Why not just use sprockets for the blades? The heirlooms? Trash currency. The Lost items? Only good for tomes. Make them vendor for 1-2c each, everyone wins. Drawings? Please, just give us the phat loot and we’ll break what we don’t want.
6) Citizen saviors: this would have been a great achievement. Missed opportunity.
7) Minor gripe: paying for waypoints in LA seems like a slap in the face. We’re supposed to be heros helping the city and yet we pay for everything. I spend more silver switching to events than I do participating in them.
Can Guardians get the aethershield to replace aegis? Love the look. You can buy the shield from the vendor near Postern waypoint.
I keep disconnecting upon leaving LA at end of event. Occurs in overflow and normal. Happens about 2 out of 3 or times.
Any build is fine for leveling, but power and precision are always good. If you’re having trouble with getting hits, some points in toughness or vitality give a little boost.
Just stick to scepter. The DPS on that weapon is decent enough to kill the warden in time. Staying alive is much more important than increase you get from partial meleeing the fight.
Once you’ve done the fight enough times as range, you can look for opportunities to melee if you really feel comfortable with it, but there’s no need to push it unless your teammates are dying too early.
^This. You can also use torch in your offhand; the scepter/torch combination works well against trash, too. Re melee against this boss: I thought that if you applied a condition to the boss, it broke or shortened the stun. That may be why it pops out of stun sooner than you expect. Not really sure, but saw that in a post. I often pop stability as I’m porting as lag can play havoc with moving out of the way in time and one less knock down can help.
I think the dailies are meant to be pretty trivial, just something to keep you in the game. Most of them are pretty mindless. The food one is no different than these: forgesmith, spend the karma, or visit the laurels vendor. They are all really inane. I do the easy ones first, then play in various settings to get the final ones.
1/16, win was not in OF, all others were in OF. Think I’m done with this event. NB: my platform never failed.
I bought one earlier for 3+ gold. Then one dropped and I sold it for 6+ gold. Maybe it’s a good time to sell.
he needs precise answers so he knows which recipes will be most demanded and will have the best Return of Interest.
Actually, I was mostly curious because it has limited value in pve and wvw. Isn’t spvp all normalized? So it was mostly a rhetorical question, as in no value.
Sprint is good in the crit trait. Power is good for blasting down mobs. Vitality or toughness aren’t bad if you’re new and not dodging enough.
Fun! This is Guild WARS right? A small group fight is not a war, its a fight.
People say that zerging is mindless and boring and it can be, but I’ve been in massive zerg vs zerg fights that were lots of fun, sometimes even use tactics such as flanking to win the battle =)
Reminds me of fantasy movies like Chronicles of Narnia or LoTR with mass scale wars.
^This. Hour long fights for SMC, hills and bay, these are epic and mostly driven by zergs.
Which professions or builds would use this gear in an optimal set up?
The poor stat itemization is one reason why I stopped crafting ascended gear. The other reason is that if you look at the cost to make each tier (rare, exotic, ascended), the ascended gear is vastly overpriced. As far as I can tell, only the ascended weapons are really worth making.
Evidence? Forums indicate lots of complaining…
It goes both ways. Remember the Toxic Offshoots everyone stopped doing once the achievements where done? If it isn’t worth the time put in, people will do something else. At least with the Scarlet invasion, you could be a week late and still finish the AP meta.
The Wurm may be permanent but nobody’s gonna bother with it when it takes 20-30 competent players going each direction in the same overflow. Alt. roll thumbs for 2 hours on a successful server like it is with Teq now for some rares and greens.
The events are badly planned is all when every boss fight has to have a zerg of loot-free mobs surrounding it. I remember all the epic boss fights in that other MMO that had zero adds.
^This. Loot drives a lot of the play in this game. First Scarlett events were a blast, plus they were pretty lucrative. Then they were nerfed. No one does them anymore. Key pieces and keys are crap loot. So what you get a chest with blues and greens in it? I’d like to see a reduction in the key currencies. They take too much bag space and they’re essentially just another grind.
Biggest problem with marionette is the 2-hour interval. Some of us log in for an hour or so at a time. Watching a clock to log in to an overflow for 15 minutes of fail, yeah, that’s not particularly engaging game play.
Given the stats on zerker gear and the suggested changes, my guess is that it will still be the top choice for pve for most professions. Let’s wait and see before we claim the sky is falling.
For leveling I really liked sword/axe + GS. The longsword gives great mobility and far more dps than the warhorn, plus its adrenaline function is an AoE immobilize. Axe 5 is also a great AoE. Use longbow for champs or tagging mobs. Longbow has a great AoE and some nice blast finishers.
Also for leveling buy some cheap runes or sigils with good power or crit and put them on your armor to get set bonuses. Sometimes you can get great runes for dirt cheap (major runes of divinity). These bonuses can really help you blast through mobs. Cheap food and potions or stones are a must as they provide bonuses to experience.
Go up the power trait line. Add a couple of points in toughness or vitality if you’re too squishy or trying to uplevel in wvw. As you approach 80, start speccing more into the pve meta build (30/25/0/0/15) or one of the various wvw builds.
As mentioned in earlier posts, spend some silver to get new weapons every 5-10 levels. You don’t need anything fancy as you’ll just replace it. You can buy armor, but it’s easy to get decent armor from crafting or karma. You can also pick up some weapons in wvw using karma. These are a bit expensive in terms of karma, so save your karma for the heart vendors and just upgrade as you go. Your weapon is your primary means of damage, so focus on keeping them up to level.
For easy leveling, someone mentioned crafting. This is great if you have the coin or materials already. Best leveling is doing the first 5-6 heart quests in each starting zone. They go fast and there are 5 starting zones (Asuran one is worth skipping). The Queensdale champ train gives a lot of exp, especially if your server does the bandit and occasional wasp kills. While the train is boring, you do get up-to-level gear as well as materials for crafting or profit. WvW is ok for leveling but the conditions have to be right: karma train and camp flipping work best. Some people don’t like uplevels running in wvw, but I never had any trouble with it as long as I didn’t stack poorly.
