You’re probably not. It is a valid point. The only solution to this is a decent LFG system. Decent as in you can specify. Angkor dungeons you want to do and the level/path you want to do them and of the thousands of people online at any given time the likelihood is you’ll find 4 who want to do the same as you. Then bingo, fun to be had.
Thing is, I don’t suppose something that can aid users in enjoying the game like this can be monetized, so it probably isn’t important. It seems the content locusts are priority because they whine quite a lot and it appears ANet think they have money to spend in the shop.
I’m with you on this. I have only done 4 story modes. Fortunately I am in a guild where people ask for others to run explorable modes so it is proving ok finding runs at least and with exotics it doesn’t seem to matter I haven’t done the dungeons before… Th?t and the fact others have so give advice (like run past these mobs they are boring and pointless
I also don’t like the mad rush for new content so gt on board a bit later (definition of a casual game I think) which means I’ll be behind the locusts and without the guild may struggle to do the dungeon as others like me are off somewhere in a different part of Tyria and we don’t have a decent LFG tool to help us find each other.
Why do people hate chasing gear? I like it, you do the new content and get your shinny’s as a reward and as a token that saids hey i did this. Do people just want content that is new and dont like reward i dont get it.
Reward doesn’t have to have new stats. I saw someone with a cool sword skin. If I got a choice of a range of cool sword skins upon completing all the dungeons on hardcore mode, I’d set myself the challenge to do it to get it.
I don’t understand why people need bigger on screen numbers to feel rewarded. If your number goes from 500 to 1000, the mob your fighting will have their health pool go from 2000 to 4000. All you gained is a pointless time sink and validation that fun isn’t the driving force for you to play a game, which seems rather counter intuitive to the point of playing games.
Plus there are many other potential rewards. Mystic stones, transmog stones. Chest keys. Boosters. Titles. Rare dyes. Waypoint discounts (cumulative over time). TP access days. Blah blah blah.
Oh, but they are in the gem store!!!!!! How do poor old ANet make money if they give stuff away?
By building up respect in the user base. You give stuff away through prizes for skill and success and your user base thinks kudos, and will actually invest in the game for other things, such as minis or gem store only skins, etc.
Unfortunately the marketing department aren’t very imaginative it seems and are chasing short termism. This WILL all blow up in their face. And when it does, well, I won’t care because I’ll be long gone by then as I’ve already been ripped off by their lies when I spent real money on gems to aid in getting my exotics because they were, allegedly, the ceiling. Unless they are willing to give me back that money now they changed the ceiling, then kitten them.
When I hit 80 I actually invested some real money in gems to help speed up some of the acquisition of my exotic gear because I had been told that exotic was it, so it seemed like a fair investment.
Now that additional real money investment appears to have been based on a lie by the company.
I wasted real life money because I was lied to.
Why on earth should I give a kitten about this company or their game when they bare faced me to pick my pocket?
Out of power they promise you change. In power they just ine their pockets like the rest of them and use spin to try and make you accept the volte face.
People in suits.
Bet the Devs don’t wear suits. Bet the Devs are aware of what’s happening and are cringing.
I bought into this game because it had a level cap and a gear cap and once I hit those I could just get in with the game. You know, doing stuff I find fun.
Why people who knew this was the case left WOW To come here then whine about lack of end game ( especially when there is kitten loads to do) beggars belief.
What be beggars belief even more is that ANet are going back on what they sold me on because the bean counters think the whiners are potential long term customers who will be perfectly satisfied with the week long gear grind (if that) rather than whiney little fly by nights looking for some form of social standing to appease their lack of lives.
When the dust settles, the casuals will leave in greater numbers, and sadly ANet I will bet you that the money that goes with them will far outweigh he little that the grinders will bring in.
This was, allegedly, a casual game. Sold me on it. But if my exotics are NOT the last set I’ll need, then I am not sure I can be arsed. It was why I stopped WOW. There is no fun in gear grinding. It is a time sink for those with nothing better in their lives.
ANet, you were doing so well, but then those blokes in suits….. Well, surely the state of the global economy should be a clue as to whether you believe a man who justifies his orders with a pi-chart and a mocha docha locha latte with double dip espresso kitten chunks, and a winning smile.
Suits, piss off and let the Devs make the game they wanted to. If you do, you’ll have a long term income. If you don’t and you continue to pursue short term gain you’re going to end up canning this baby sooner rather than later because the income is just going to dry the kitten up.
Edit: wow, piss isn’t kittened. Can’t believe that slipped past the forum police. This place has tighter security than Ws kitten, normally.

I really enjoy the game but I stopped paying attention to the personal story weeks ago. such dull tedious game play, have had to repeat a couple of long tedious instances due to it bugging out and despite being 80, full exotic and 250 hours plus I’m still only about 3/4 through the story and have to force myself to do it.
personally I’d rather have had another level 80 zone not like Orr to explore and then run around with the time they spent faffing around on the individual yawn fest of the personal story.
apart from the nonsense of the gambling forge the PS is the worst part of he game
What has that got to do with Trahearne?
Everything. At a sub textual level.
EyeSeeSound.1348 am not a native english speaker, so keep your brainy comments to yourself, don’t be all worked up defending a game or a-net.
I wasn’t defending a game or Anet, I was challenging your statement of ‘fact’ that the game is finished because you’ve got bored.
And native or not, books can help you learn and when speaking another language getting things correct is pleasing.
And it is a forum, by definition my comments should be presented, brainy or not, because that is the point of a forum. If you just wanted people to agree with you and pat you on the back with a consolitory ‘aw there there kitten’ you should have posted on your facebook page.
very well said. and agree fully. thought I was done with my gear getting and was settli g into just playing the game. had even started looking at the odd piece of dungeon gear to get for transmogging coz I liked the look of a helm or shoulders or GS.
and I really liked the liberation. of not needing to worry about getting ‘better gear’
I stopped wow with the last expac. ecause all the time effort and research I put into my pally tank went to kitten the second it was released. kitten off. GW2 had a stat ceiling that meant I only needed to focus on playing better rather than gearing better to succeed.
ho hum
In MMOs, the unofficial standard for a player’s gear constantly changes based on what kind of gear is available. At this current point, the unofficial gear standard for an established 80th character is full Exotic gear. Once these new Fractual gear pieces get introduced, the gear standard will change to expecting everyone to have Fractal armor and Exotic weapons / jewelry.
I’m tired of the gear treadmills of other MMOs. Having a perfectionist streak, I know that I won’t be satisfied to weaken my character when there are better options available. This leads me to dungeon and gear grind to meet the new gear standard. If I fail to meet this new standard, then my performance will be sub-par in newer content and I’ll be socially snubbed by the usually MMO elitism that appears in any MMO. So as a result, I end up chain grinding for 1-2 months of my life to meet the new gear tier. Rinse and repeat for each new gear upgrade.
One of the key appeals of GW2 was that it didn’t want to go down that route. Based on everything that I’ve seen during the past couple of years, they gave the impression that GW2 was going to be more of a part-time MMO. Their core audience would be people who either played a 2nd MMO as their primary game or for people who had busy real world lives and couldn’t invest the time neccessary to keep up with the standard MMO pack.
Based on that interview article, it appears that ArenaNet is backing away from one of the key things that I found so appealing about the game. Assuming that the article is accurate, then a lot of us will have to seriously re-evaluate about just how we feel about the revised standard for GW2. Since it’s a Buy To Play model, lost “subscribers” won’t even make that much of a dent in ArenaNet’s short term finanaces. It will be interesting to see if switching to a cliche Gear Progression system will help or harm ArenaNet in the future.

Nice thread. Genius opening post
Wow has gear progression right? Jesus it is tedious. I stopped in the end because I couldn’t face another HOT and every time I bought a piece of valour the thought of having to run another 15 dungeons just to get another piece…. Yay, fun.
I’d like the idea of raids in GW2. Large instances dungeons, perhaps where teams of 10 had to split up and achieve goals that combined to complete the adventure, obviously with the party coming together times and the end. Perhaps part dungeon part quest, or with DEs randomly in there as we moved about, jumping puzzles, thought puzzles. Basically a mini adventure using the basic mechanics of the game but in a condensed and engaging manner.
I’m never going to get a legendary in this game. Can’t be arsed with the grind. But I went back to try MOP and what I can tell you was the first quest I did made my heart sink. Same old kitten running to and from sociopaths who only send you back to where you have been to kill/get someone/thing else and all the time I spent gearing up my character now redundant in a flash, and add to that all the time I learnt about reforging and gemming the correct secondaries wiped away because they totally changed the character…. just lost the will to play the game.
I loved PvP in WOW. Not because it was fun to gear progress but because it was against humans (mostly, of course some bots and some sub-human beings also played). Mostly I didn’t care that I could get face rolled because I was under geared because I just got a rush from the participation, though yes I would have preferred a level playing field to see if I was any good or getting better, rather than to KNOW that I was underpowered. Got about 3200 resilience before losing the will to play the game in terms of gear progression. Would then just randomly pop in and fight hoarde.
You see, the big problem with MMOs from my limited experience is repetitive play that is not fun. GW2 has lots of repetitive play too, but it isn’t on the whole targeted at making the character stronger, per se, like end of game gear progression is, which means it isn’t really as important to those who don’t like it. As such I can drop into the game when I want and have a blast then leave… especially as I am not paying a monthly tax on my initial game purchase. I feel liberated by this purchase.
I do understand people saying there is a lack of end game because at level 80 you actually want to do things that you can’t do at 79 and below. That to me is end game, not grinding new pieces of gear through repetitive farming of the same content.
So sure, if they added mini-adventures as suggested above, then bingo, something exciting to do. I guess the problem then is that the ‘hardcores’ (and to be honest, you seriously need to think about unplugging now and then, it’s frittering away an amazing thing called life quite fruitlessly) will cane the content then whine again because I have no doubt they wouldn’t be able to bosh out an instance a week. But again it comes back to the wonderful business model here. You don’t pay a monthly tax, so go and play something else and come back again when you feel like it.
If WOW was b2p I would stick at it now and then until they released a content patch which I would have paid £10 for, then the next expansion another £40 for, but because they are greedy kittens taxing me £9 a month I can’t really be arsed. I’m not paying that in case I only fancy playing 4 hours one month. Here it doesn’t matter if I only play 4 hours a month, costs me the same.
Plus, whining that fanboys will defend the game no matter what is a rather puerile and tenuous attempt to validate your personal opinions as some sort of fact… and it makes you sound like a right whiney little kitten. Just saying.

“Our product is flawless. If the customers don’t like it then they don’t get it.”Really?
I don’t know, doesn’t seem to stop Apple’s valuation from perpetually rising. They’ll even EOL some of the most popular editing software in the world because they wanted to re-do it their way.
You’re suggesting I wait for weeks or months before we can play again? I know why you are saying what you’re saying, but try to see it from my perspective.
The transfer limit is absurdly low right now. Every account is a new account by these standards. Thousands of people must be experiencing this issue and not bothering to post about it.
Thanks for the replies, but I don’t think you’re seeing how excessive this is.
Nope, you can play the game now, but our friend will have to just go out and earn her gold like the rest of us. Life’s hard hey.
the Guardian just doesnt have “range dps”.
range support is fine.
and really, its not like youre going to charge that champion harpy with your 2h sword anyway.
nobody melee the champions. so you are conan vs the mobs and doctor doogie vs boss.
live with it or switch class
I do it’s fun. Admittedly it involves a lot of circular kiting and rolling but hey, not gonna let poor range DPS stop me from trying to kill anything.
Agreed (apparently one needs 15 characters and a raft of ! doesn’t count, so despite only wanting to add ‘agree’ I had that deleted so instead the rest of this sentence has wasted a good 10 seconds of your life. Gotta love corporate beaurocracy).
Are the tonics these chest drops that turn you into different animals for 15 mins ? If so, what is the point of them? It kind of amazes me that time was spent making them but we can’t discover recipes from the collectables tabs, especially in cooking, yet.
“One must suffer to be beautiful.”
Quoted for truth. Good job I’m happy being ugly.
I’d support mounts if:
a) they didn’t move any faster than normal speed but ‘trotted’ at the sme speed and cantered when speed buffs were actioned
b) they introduced no variations on combat so you would fight on your mount and were limited to certain weapons to do so (much like with underwater fighting)
c) there were limited mounts achieved through ways other than a perpetual grind, but rather more imaginative ways, which would stop a lot of the QQing about not to do at level 80
Beyond a and b though, not interested in their implementation.
I tried the mystic forge 4 times. Didn’t know much about it. I got one goodies item and the other 12 pieces I threw in gave me rubbish, where I would have been better off vendor trashinging them.
Conclusion: mystic forge is a waste so I don’t use it.
I’m sure if you google recipe lists it may be good, I don’t know and there is no in game way of me knowing so mystic forge may be awesome but I’ll never know because as it stands to me it just goggles up cash I could have made at a vendor.
That, sadly, is bad implementation. ANet have turned me off it by not going me a clue. Even a basic recipe list like the start of crafting may have suggested the idea to me, but it says put in 4 and get 1 back. I did and they were kitten.
More importantly, what an amazing kittening catch!!!!
Basically, people want someone to be their tank so they aren’t attacked and someone to be healer for when the tank loses aggro and they get hit or from aoe damage.
Alternatively they could stop standing in the fire and spamming buttons whilst wishing GW2 had recount.
I melee as a guardian. I have to move a lot and dodge and sometimes go range, but Jesus it is fun.
WOW was my first MMO experience and to be honest as such it was amazing. Then about 2 months back I hit a wall with it and got bored. Same stuff each day. Grinding for VPs. Dailies. So I checked out other games.
TSW was interesting but after the 3 day trial the trout of subbing for it after paying for the game turned me off.
I trialed EVE and just loved it. I didn’t have to buy the game so I subbed for 6 months, especially as if I get good enough I can pay for subs with ingame currency. I also loved the fact that anything goes (even if I will be perennially down the food chain).
I bought GW2 because it was no sub. Just the game cost if I wanted. And to be honest I really enjoy it, despite some flaws and irritations with it. I feel I am flopping around a world without any need for following a path. All the things I can do I can do in WOW but I feel like the way I do it is less defined.
But the big thing is I don’t have to sub. Ok, gem prices compared to what they buy are stupidly high as far as I am concerned, but they a optional. I bought 1600 for bank slots and felt a bit diddled. As such I won’t spend anymore ( you listening ANet, you lower the cost or increase the value then I’d actually buy more, but 2 bank slots and 1 character bag slot for £17 is pretty crap) but may buy gems with ingame gold or just live without the boons they can buy. I will, however, keep coming back because even if I don’t play for months, I don’t have to resub just to play a game I already bought. And it’s fun.
Oh, and as to the flaws and limitations, and there are some, the game is 3 weeks old and it is exciting being in at the start.
I LOVE THE INSANITY OF MY LANGUAGE. Though it is a bugger trying to explain it to my 6 year old nephews who is learning to read and write it. Sometimes you just have to say ‘well, that’s just the way it is’
This is about the disadvantages of spending time on the market while your current aspiring armour set or weaponry pass you by as you become over levelled.
well….. in that case you just saved yourself the cost of that set of gear which is now irrelevant because you’ve out levelled it. Sweet
Isn’t fishing in an MMO just like playing FarmVille? Surely if you are bored with being a hero you can log off and go and play FarmVille.
When English was invented someone in the acquisitions department bought too many ’h’s and as such ever since we have to slip silent ones in needlessly in order to eventually get rid of the excess and restore balance to the language and through that global peace and harmony.
Shame, but true.
I’m always skintight and levels 52 and 3 around 20. But I’m skins because I love abusing the waypoints, will buy stuff when I can’t be bothered to farm it and buy level suitable gear before trying a new dungeon.
Thing is a) I don’t whine about it, I knowim blowing my cash and don’t care and b) after blowing a load of cash selling drops and doing hearts sees it come back in fit enough.
I do agree though with other posts elsewhere that 100% in an area warrants free waypoints or discounted a great deal at least, like with cities which are free. If w complete 100% we have at least traversed the content and if we are returning it may be to help friends/others, farm some mats, do a story quest or dungeon run or something. I don’t see the problem with those things being made easier to do because at some point they are the things that will be left to do once we’ve progressed to 80 or got 100% world map.
I can’t be a mogul via the TP QQ.
Ho hum, play the other bite of the game then.
Only thing annoying about the TP is not being able to filter out goods I cannot use. Apart from that, items are nice and cheap for levelling up, fine materials are expensive so it makes me farm them or not speed level crafting which a no big deals, and a fewe people won’t dominate the market and be ale to flex their kitten by controlling things in game as a compensatory act to being unemployed in real life.
Seems to be all good really.
Ps: some of us know what malaka means, and just so the mods know you circumnavigated the swear filter and thought you were clever doing it, it means wan ker in Greek.
You do come across as a right Richard Edward mate.
Do you listen to the Beatles or are you just the kind of person that has heard their “hits” The Beatles broke ground for a myriad of genres, changed the way music was recorded, and changed the way the industry was ran.
That being said, I agree with Potent. Jack Wall is nothing special. At least if you consider Jeremy Soule to not be special.
The Beatles hardly changed ANYTHING about recording, that was the engineers behind them.
Yes, the Beatles had a few good songs. But there are better musicians that are a LOT less well known.Oh and @ Classical music—yes, I listen to it. If more people did, they might realise how mediocre Jeremy Soule really is.
Haha, failed wannabe musician with delusions of grandeur alert.
Sure, The Beatles were truly mediocre. That’s why Brian Wilson went mad creating Pet Sounds because of them. But then again, Brian Wilson is probably an average song writer too hey.
Seriously, your whole argument is based on personal opinion which for most people is invalid and you wield it like a gospel.
I mean, elvis was kitten hey, he didn’t even write his own songs (mostly).
Kitten.
Must be removed? Why? Will the world ended they aren’t?
Of course ou don’t have to complete each zone. If Youmwant to though, Vistas.
Agreed. PITKitten.
Can you buy bags with gems and how much are they?
You can open additional bag slots with gems. Bag slots are per character, back slot account wide.
Woo hoo, forums!!!!!!
Ta.
Buy apple stock. Avoid Facebook stock.
I’d never heard of DaoC so I just ent to thir site and looked at their trailer on the homepage. Gotta say it looked like a mickey take south park would do.
Only done story modes of the first two but love them. Thought AC was better because it was harder.
Am looking forward to,explorer modes when I properly learn my character and know what I am doing, maybe that is what people are doing wrong, thinking they deserve shinies on a silver tray.
I noticed the cost of repairs was high and the returns low but I don’t care, it is a game where digital currency isn’t the fun part of the game, having fun is.
Devs, don’t make dungeons face rolls please. Ta.
Honestly.
1) I love the chaos of the fights, it is what a real fight would be like. What is smart about a mob hitting the lowest dps outputter because he has aggro multipliers active?
2) you don’t need a tank or healer, you just need all 5 players to be aware they are in a focused dungeon and not a face roll DE. On my guardian sometimes I melee, sometimes I cast heals, sometimes I res, sometimes I range, it depends on circumstance and what the others are doing.
And I’m not even good at games.
3) saying you need a specific support player or aggro taker just suggests that you aren’t grouping up with players who know their characters and are playing as a group rather than as individuals in a set role. The trinity concept isn’t better, it is easier.
Healer why did you let me die all I am meant to do is DPS?
Because you stood in the fire, kitten.
Tank why did you lose aggro I’m only meant to DPS/Heal?
Because you burst so ridiculously high before I’d finished picking my nose, kitten.
DPS why aren’t you outputting 48,675 DPS, that’s all you are meant to be doing, and avoiding the fire?
Such up kitten, noob.
People have posted how they have completed dungeons on all range (4 mesmers and 1 ranger springs to mind) so nope, you don’t NEED a healer, you don’t NEED a tank, and of course you don’t NEED to play GW2, so complaining they have messed up when all they have done is offered an alternative that you may not like because it isn’t ordered, defined and limited is a tad whiney. I love them, more than the trinity of WOW where I had a tank and a healer, and I also love how hard AC story was for me and my groups.
I stopped playing WOW because I couldn’t face running another HOT for VPs one more time.
I read about the game so decided to roll 1 character on each class. I am levelling four of them at once to give me the variety of different play styles. One is at 50 the other 3 around level 20. I am also levelling up all the crafts, 2 per character. Where some people have already ‘completed’ the game I have rather a lot more to do and look forward to and experience. Not least of all trying all the dungeons with different play styles.
Horses for courses really but being at the top ASAP isn’t my thing. Enjoying things is.
My only gripe is some of the hearts are tedious beyond belief and some of the vistas kitten me off too.
I believe I got my cloak for my main around level 20 or so. Until then I just kept seeing a space. I can’t recall if it was a story prize or something I crafted though, sorry. Check the AH if it was crafted I am sure here are some on there.
I’m just not a fan of how massively buffed-up the monsters in dungeons are.
Because everything should be easy?
Indeed I love that AC story challenged our group and tbh the level 40 dungeon was quite easy and a little disappointing because of it, though being set in a mansion was brilliant.
I also love how when I am level 49 in a 45 to 55 zone if I wander into the wrong area I all of a sudden realise I am level 49. Can still kill 1 v 1 but more than that and I really need to start thinking, or hoping someone else comes along and helps
Players helping players:
It is spelt Thieves.
I suggest spell check before trying to be a smart kitten.
No, from my experience you go out of story. I am level 50 on my main and don’t recall the story taking me there.
But as the other poster correctly said, scaling means you can go whenever and tbh AC is tough so going at a slightly higher level than 30 with appropriate gear will help
I agree with with everyone but the OP. it is genius. When my main hits 80 I will be able to run other areas without missing out on the DEs and hearts etc. the same with dungeons. When I hit 40 or 50 I didn’t feel I had to go straight to a dungeon in order to not miss out on the maximum challenge of it, I can do it whenever. When I feel more confident with my character and skills I can go back and do all the explore modes mostly as intended (though with a little boost which helps a mediocre play like myself)
My interpretation of people complaining about this brilliant idea is they are rush freaks who just want to get everything ASAP because a game isn’t about playing it and enjoying it but getting everything they want and strutting that… Then whining on the forums about how it is all finished.
Getting from a to b is better if you don’t do it in 5 minutes, just ask your girlfriend, she’ll totally agree.
To be honest I look forward to the day a MMO is released without levels and the whole world is accessible from the off. Progression should come through things like the weapon slots opening up and traits but should happen slower than GW2 – the only frustration with the GW2 implementation is that it seems a bit pointless because it happens so fast then is over, though maybe future patches will enable us to unlock subsequent weapon skills at w slower pace and we can switch between, say, 10.
In addition, does the screen have to bounce so much at times. I know I’m in a battle, do you have to make it harder by making me seasick and stopping me from being able to focus on the screen.
Mind you, when there’s more than 5 or 6 players fighting, all I can see is the fireworks display
Auto attack and run round in a circle.
Yes, please reduce the fireworks displays.
Alright , that’s what I thought. He can kiss my behind because I am going to keep them. Thanks everyone
Made me smile. Make us he washes his lips first though, don’t want to catch anything.
Yep, I didn’t know how to do that either, cheers
