If not, please name one AAA MMORPG that released a free expansion this year.

There’s your error right there. The vast majority of MMOs are not tripleA titles, nor do triple A titles account for the assumed majority of game actions and behaviors.

You can’t assume your small world considerations are applicable to the entire genre.

WoW is the anomily, GW2 is a Buy to play, most of the market are not like these.

Vindictus recieved a new expansion this past few months ago, TERA received a huge expansion as well. Eden Eternal was revamped and expanded, the list goes on and on with various titles that get consistent updates.

Triple A is not even close to the market standard for MMOs.

expansions are always paid in almost-every-mmo out there,

No they aren’t.

Most MMORPGs, the grand majority do expansions as automatic. You don’t have to pay for them.

GW2, WoW, and SWTOR are the few that are charging for expansion content, most other MMORPGs DO NOT.

Yes which completely nullifies the point of them being “game breaking.” In anyway.

There’s no open world PVP, there’s no reason to not have them due to many reasons.
The reasons to have them? Money in ArenaNet’s and NCSofts pocket, and players get another aspect of vanity item to splurge on.

OMG I would love Bunnyears. I literally have bunny ears on every single character I play that I possibly can.
My for my Castanic I have a bunny ear headband costume item, for my Fiona helm is transmuted to bunnyears, my Blood Elf I sacrifice my helm so I can have bunnyears, my Aurin in WildStar has natural bunnyears, if I could have bunnyears on my Norn, as actual armor slot transmute, oh I would die happy.
I’m not joking.

Introduce bunnyears as a transmute item? Please ArenaNet, let me throw money at you.

Bunny ears? you wanna look like a playboy bunny girl or something? as if the outfits aren’t exposing enough to make girl characters look like prostitutes, adding bunny ears will be the cherry on the top of the cake.

I think it’s more of an anime weebo thing

Actually Bunnyears are an American/Western trope started by Playboy, the major appeal of bunnyear is “Adult” Entertainment/sex appeal waitress theme.

Trouble with the new Camera settings

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FranBunnyFFXII.3508

FranBunnyFFXII.3508

The new camera settings are driving me bonkers.
I’m a returning player, and I’ve been trying to find a camera setting that feels right and everything feels completely out of whack now.

I’ve tried messing with the “height of my character” settings, and if i adjust the vertical position the camera arcs way up there when I zoom out, if I set it to the minimum, then i zoom in then my character’s head is way too low.

If I set it to not adjust to my character the character takes up the screen from head to toe trying to zoom in and then looks centered when zoomed out, and the vertical position throws this all out of balance.

The default camera before had this setting that almost seemed to set the characters shoulders a little bit above the bottom 1/3 line of the screen which was perfect.

I could zoom all the way in and out and it’d stay lower 1/3 screen centered on her shoulders which was perfect.

Is there any way to get this old camera setting back? I can’t seem to recreate or find a comfortable spot for the camera.

I log in, mess with the camera and try to do something in game, get frustrated and just log out and play something else.

This camera change is really ruining the game for me.

What I would give to be able to move my UI

Although they had it in GW1, personally, I don’t really care about the UI in GW2 as much. It’s mostly in convenient places and the important things are all available.

Also, bear in mind how you had it in other MMOs, is not going to be how a lot of players would have it in their MMOs. For isntance, I’m perfectly fine with how GW2 has set up the interface because it so happens to be pretty much the same as how I had it set up in GW1. Now, how about that?

A customisable UI is a nice thing to have, but hardly game breaking compared to traits, the expansion, skill balance, and more importantly condition game play

I never said that people should have it MY way. I just said it should be customizable. I also never said it was gamebreaking.

And just because YOU had a similar setup in GW1 and it just so happens to work for YOU, doesn’t mean it works for everyone else.

That’s precisely my point. Do you see what I’m getting at? It’s a minor QoL thing that is nice to have but in the grand scheme of things is hardly going to be on Anet’s radar.

I was “making fun of” your comment, if you didn’t catch that.

It’s not really a “minor” Quality of Life thing, it’s more like the game is missing a major aspect of UI design that’s standard in more than 200 other games.

Yes there are more pressing issues at this time, but that doesn’t invalidate anything I’ve said.

It’s one of the major reasons I don’t play GW2 very much, is because the UI is so oddly placed and designed.

what games are those?

In order
World of Warcraft
Prius Online
TERA
Eden Eternal
Iris Online
TERA
WildStar

I agree, it’s frustrating. Although it’s not exactly necessary I guess. Along the same vein, I would like a item slot bar for all my trinkets and toys

I think it’s absolutely necessary.

Not when I can go to some 200+other MMOs and there’s some way to customize it in the most basic of ways so that it reflects the set up that I’ve been able to replicate and rely on as most people will do as they go from MMO to MMO.

It’s kinda like a basic feature of an MMORPG, is being able to move around and customize parts of your UI.

Then why don’t you go play those 200+ other MMO’s that you can move the UI around on? Ba-Bye

You could probably due with not making stupid comments when someone makes a suggestion that would benifit a mass entire majority of players in this game.

No a benifit to the “mass entire majority” would be something like them fixing the broken Traits system or giving weapons more than one set of skills or adding GvG/HoH to the PvP modes or fixing broken skills and traits. Being able to move thing in the UI is not game breaking like you seem to think. It’s an inconvenience at most and I’d rather see the devs working on the real problems GW2 has.

No need for the obviously stupid comment though.
“Why don’t you just go play those other games”
Why don’t you just not talk if you have nothing smart to say? Because I’m obviously here for a reason and making a suggestion that helps a lot of people is called FEEDBACK.

Why would you tell someone to leave when they came to a game for the enjoyment that it gave to them, why would you be clearly offended when someone wants to improve a game that they like playing.
You clearly took that personally and acted like it was a terrible bashing of the game, and the only thing I wanted was a simple industry standard that’s avaible across all games as part of an expected feature of the genre.

“I would like to be able to move my UI”
“Why don’t you just quit”

Wow really…?

Yeah the distance at which they trail really bugs me. GW1’s mini’s stuck much closer to their owner and it was great.

Often times when I’m in a semi-crowded area I can’t even spot my own mini because for some reason it isn’t by my side… And of course the second I start walking around I just forget I even have one.

I love little vanity items like CS pets(Minitures in this game), and I tend to collect them, and the major reason I purchased the Deluxe edition pre-order was because of the rytlok mini.

I really want to love the cs pets in this game but they just don’t behave in such a way that makes them worth even trying to get and use.

I would really love the mini’s if they didn’t

1. Trail 15~20ft behind me and path around wherever I walked.(sometimes she’s even 30+feet away…)
I wish it would cling to my side, not right on my kitten , but just a few feet away and it didn’t follow the path that I walked. Instead I would love the miniatures just followed me almost at my heels offset to my side, and would always take the most efficient path to me, instead of walking in my exact trail behind me.
It’s not hard to do a collision avoidance behavior either so that they just walk around an object that would block their direct path to me. Auto pathing wouldn’t be hard at all. In the game engines I’ve worked with some even have it built in.
Edit: I just watched it in game, and the minitures do have object avoidence programmed into them.

Let me express just how bad this really is with not normal but Eyefinity Surround (32:9) screenshots.
http://i.imgur.com/ZbezE4c.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/fkKIchR.jpg

You can’t even see it off in the distance with a normal 16:9 screen most of the time.

And, not as big of a deal because most of my complaint before was fixed but
2. I’m in the middle of playing through story elements and porting around towns and doing random stuff and every time I walk through an instance or anything in the story my mini disappears. Not sure if this is just a glitch because it doesn’t happen when I port around the map and walk into the instances around towns.

Number 1 is big though, it makes little sense to me to have a CS pet that trails so far behind me that it’s not even on my screen and I have to go looking for it to make sure it’s even summoned, or that it doesn’t even trail close enough that it looks like a part of my outfit.

I’d probably spend an obscene amount of money on these little things if Number 1 was fixed.
The trail distance is way too far, and their pathing makes it even worse, to the point where i regret spending money on my collectors edition to get the rytlok mini.

My CS Pet only appears to belong to me when I’m standing there idle/AFK, which is a big disappointment.

Some people are so bent on glitching that they hug the wall during the spider queen fight in the very same dung, wiping the team more often than when fighting her in a straightforward way. :P

The fact that people can and do this constantly and can do it everytime, shows there’s a problem with the design.

the glitches should be fixed and a meta method for fighting dungeons should eventually come to light.

The fact that is not being addressed in my eyes is a serious problem.

I’ve actually watched this a few times, and there’s parts i agree with him, and parts where i outright disagree.

My post is about what i feel would improve guild wars 2 as a whole seeing as what the game could possibly support with its design.

Not necessarily whats in other mmos but what could really enhance the game’s elder game, and the way the game could provide engaging content for a player to play on a regular basis.

That’s what im really trying to get at with this thread.

This leads into something else though. The lack of truly playable dungeons, leads to the lack of Raiding. Raiding is fun, and can lead into intensive play, and it allows progressive play. Raiding is an extended way of engaging a player and giving PVE heavy players a definite source of content to play. And creating a new raid or so every few months shouldn’t be all that difficult if living story is being pumped out so quickly. Open world raiding is a pretty interesting idea, which is somewhat explored with the champions. I think that was a pretty fun thing seeing champion mobs show up and there’s a handful of players chasing them around. That idea is great let’s see more of that, evolve that into something greater. Lots of games have open world bosses, Guild Wars 2 isn’t all that different, but there could be more.
Raiding, be it premade, open world, event or whatever is a heavily engaging thing to do.
What about Factions? Reputations? This is mostly a WoW player’s question because I had a lot of fun rolling through dungeons and quest lines in WoW to gain reputation, and to get access to items because of it. I’m not saying copy pasta world of warcraft, but it’s a content approach that once again gives even more character progression.

“Sounds like you want to make GW2 just like every other mmo” Partially yes. There’s a reason why mmorpg players play MMORPGs. There’s certain elements that really get a player into playing an mmo.

The continuing living story is great, but the game seemed more like a once or twice play through of an open world RPG with embedded multiplayer options.

I really want to play this game. I really like the character I created, I love the Norn, I love the ranger class, and I love how beautiful and interesting Tyria is, but the game in my opinion is lacking so much that would have made it something I couldn’t wait to play every day that I got home from something or another.
But there’s nothing there that’s making me want to log in. In fact I’ve not logged in for a while and went and found other games to play, but there’s a bit of a sinking feeling when the game I want to play all the stuff I’m doing other games, just doesn’t provide that level of engaging content.
I feel like I played an online RPG, that’s really how I feel about this game. I feel like I played an online Skyrim… sort of. If you understand what I’m getting at. I spent money on the collector’s edition, got some interesting extended game play and a game that keeps giving me free DLC… Was well worth it for the time played, but now I just don’t play it.

There are so many possibilities for expansion and player involvement and character progression, but Guild Wars 2 is lacking so much of it and it makes the game all that less engaging. I want to play Guild Wars 2, but the content that I would have played the game forever on, simply isn’t there.
Thanks for consideration and reading,

But PVP options aren’t the arguments that really bring much the devs can do if they want to really extend the game play.
Raiding and PVE, Character Progression.
Living story is cool and all, but to me, it doesn’t feel engaging. It didn’t captivate me, it didn’t make me want to log in, some people might like it, but me it’s a big weakness of the game. Why is it not being implemented as expanded story play and created as limited time based involvement? That’s an awful idea. I really think that Living story is just not being done correctly, it’s really hindering the way guild wars 2 could be built up with content over time. Maybe release some content for living story that’s limited, such as rewards, but provide a permanent content play option that adds to what a player can play through. A new player would enjoy the massive amount of post 80 content that they’d get and they wouldn’t feel left out of a previous story progression.
I played 2 living story elements, dragon bash and Queens Jubilee. Neither of which made anything feel like progression.

The dungeons in guild wars 2 seemed not very well thought out, I don’t like the idea of having to huddle in a corner to kill a spider or an end boss. why exactly did this end up happening? Why design a system that you need to glitch to win? That defeats the point of trying to enjoy a dungeon run in the first place.

It’s a terrible thing really, every time I ran a dungeon we had to use some glitch to progress, stacking up in a corner, that’s not fun, that’s immersion breaking. It’s stupid, and I don’t understand why ArenaNet hasn’t fixed this and retuned the dungeon system.

You do not need, nor want a trinity style dungeon, I get that, and it’s really cool to not have to find tanks healers and DPS, everyone needs to DPS, some people need to be tanky.
But supporting exists, toughness and vitality exist, and high DPS builds exist. People can insta-swap items. Why not build the dungeons around this fact. Remove dedicated tanking and supporting, make people want to fight in a way that they provide support and taunt and combat elements, so that everyone can join and fight, but no one is stuck doing something they don’t want to do. A Meta team to playing dungeons isn’t a bad thing. We shouldn’t be using glitches and weird tricks to defeat a dungeon, we should be drawn out into a hell of a fight.
Guild Wars 2 is not the only game to avoid trinity dungeon running. In-fact Vindictus is a great example of a game built entirely on no trinity dungeon running. The current state of dungeon’s isn’t acceptable in my opinion.
If guild wars 2 wants to avoid trinities, that’s great, but make the dungeons outright playable.

What I feel is missing from GW2

So what does seem like a good idea? I know the whole standard thing gets old, but guild wars 2 really skipped out on things it would have been REALLY good at doing.

Open world PVP/PK, this game would have been marvelous for this. especially since you can port around the map in an instant. If a player flags for PK and manages to kill someone, give em karma, restrict their teleporting to only nearby or something similar limitation. if someone’s being a jerk, a couple others could port in and give a beat down. or it could totally start a skirmish between a bunch of players, The option is interesting, i think it should really be explored. I tend to PK a lot in TERA and WoW, its an interesting way of playing and making the stakes higher.

Speaking of skirmishes, Guild v Guild, aka Guild wars.
Look I know the name of the game is a reference to the lore, you don’t need to tell me that, but this is an element missing from the game that above all else, should really have been there. I mean “Guild Wars” doesn’t have guild wars. It really should have been a part of the game, especially when there’s no factions in the game.

Map to Map area fractioning and guild control would have been excellent one guild could take control of an area on a map and set up taxes or something like that, and it puts them up to being attacked and challenged. All out skirmish and turf warfare which is something Guild Wars 2, could have served very well. Guild vs Guild staged fights gives a guild a reason to run a structure of PVPers and providing consistent game play options for those trying to build a strong guild.

There’s a lot of elements to Guild Vs Guild, and open world PVP/PK that guild wars 2 could serve very well, and yet these elements are completely missing.

Warring Guilds leads to long lasting conflicts and impressive and inspiring fights and leads to a hierarchy of guild reputation throughout the servers. Who here knows about Dara Mactintre? If you do, you probably played world of warcraft. Because Dara was one of the most powerful guilds in WoW’s history.
Some PVP elements are seemingly missing that once again guild wars 2 would have served well for. The main one I know i would have loved getting into is raiding.

Ok so PVP yeah.

What I feel is missing from GW2

I’ve been an MMORPG player for over 10 years now. From EQ, to WoW, to Flyff, to TERA, you name an mmorpg 2011 or earlier and I’ve probably played it.

Before I start, this is a long winded post and will take some time to read. I wrote this out in MS Office word before posting because I really wanted to take some time and really write out what I think guild wars 2 is lacking, or needs to improve.
Now when I came to guild wars 2 I took my time to play and mess around, I wanted to really just have an adventure. I fell in love with the Norn and their interesting culture and their REALLY big people. I absolutely love the guild wars 2 atmosphere, and the games play style.

There’s a lot of really good things about guild wars 2, the class and race options are wide open, the questing and adventuring is legit awesome. One of the best quest and event leveling ideas of all time. It gets people to play together without even saying a word. That is AWESOME.
However, When I got to level 80, I went and geared up my avatar, found a look I really liked, played through story elements, and then I just ran out of engaging things to do. I tried some of the living story stuff, and I feel rather let down.
From this let’s get into what I feel the game is lacking or needs improvement or work.

PVP, serious lack of an involved PVP element.

“But what about sPVP?” That’s a MOBA, it really is. sPVP is Guild Wars 2 the MOBA, that’s how I see it and feel about it.
It’s just so disconnected from the way the game is on the story/progression side of it. Restarting a character from the ground up? No thanks, that doesn’t take my fancy. I worked really hard to get the skins, armor and items in my armor, and if i want to PVP now with them, i have to ditch it all and build new armor? Never mind that, I’ll just go play another game where i don’t have to do that.

sPVP is fun, it’s great for a competitive scene, but it’s too disconnected to feel like it’s a part of the Guild Wars 2 I wanted to experience.
sPVP provides a structured ideal place for players to learn to PVP and fight on a balanced level, but how many mmorpgs do this?
World of Warcraft, has fairly balanced PVP, but it’s part of the characters progression. It doesn’t feel like a MOBA, it feels like I created and progressed a character, and that all my efforts come down to the stat builds and gear types and talents I strived for in while playing through the game.
This is a huge missing piece of guild wars 2 for me. Most MMORPGs use this method, many are imbalanced, and need tweaking but it still allows a player to use their progress made with their own adventuring. I really don’t like trying to play with a character that I have already progressed and moved along and then all of the sudden I want to PVP and I have to play a completely different game to do that.
Battlegrounds would have been a great idea for this problem, especially because of how interchangeable the guild wars 2 avatar builds are. BGs rated or not, allow a player limited team vs team match up that would involve characters already made and give them a way to compete vs one another.

WvWvW. WvW is a siege and zerg fest, i was quickly turned off by it simply because all that you need to take points in WvW is just have the bigger zerg rush. There’s no serious involvement in such a mode, some people may love it, but for me its simply an odd of option of something to do.

Ghastly Long bow is heavily bugged.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

FranBunnyFFXII.3508

I just got this bow because its one of the few looks that I like and while the bubbles are kinda odd its still kinda cool.

However the ghastly bow has a lot of problems.
1. most of the times the bubbling effect doesn’t work. using it in battle turns it off and it doesn’t comeback for a while.
2. its colors are screwed up. Sometimes during the sunlight it appears wooden grey, which looks bad, but when the bubbles work it appears sky blue in the sunlight.
Durning the night the color seems to come back
3. sometimes the drawn animation on rapid fire will get stuck and the character finishes the skill animation but the bow keeps recoiling and you have to use another skill or auto attack to stop it.

Norn Male & Female, disproportionate?

in Norn

Posted by: FranBunnyFFXII.3508

FranBunnyFFXII.3508

Kind of pulling back towards the original topic, and less on this human v. norn track, males and females of a species aren’t always (in fact more often are not) very similar:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_dimorphism

I was just about to post this.

They may physically seem a bit different but then again look at how the are behavior wise. they have almost no gender roles in their society.
That to me is amazing.

Norn female voices

in Norn

Posted by: FranBunnyFFXII.3508

FranBunnyFFXII.3508

A female norn is 8-9 feet tall, and (estimated) 400-500 pounds of muscle. Nobody would expect someone built like that, with the lungs to power it, to have a diminutive “girly” voice.

I find the norn female voice quite appropriate, and don’t mind the sound. While deep, the voice is by no means a “flat” male voice.

Considering that they are hominids I doubt norn females are that big, I suggest they are more or less reaslitically around 300~340lbs. at 9ft 1in

And I absolutely agree, its not an ultra femmy girly voice, but cmon look at how big and massive and heavily built the norn females are. They are huge packs of muscle and power…with some boobage and pretty faces. I didn’t expect them to have womanly voices. I expected a more boomy strong voice in femine vocal tones. Which is exactly what it is.

Aetherised weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FranBunnyFFXII.3508

FranBunnyFFXII.3508

It might be on the TP if someone got it as a drop from the event; do a search on Aetherized. Alternatively you can collect 5 claim tickets. How? Wheee! Buy all the Black Lion Chest keys you can! A few hundred might get you enough! You need 10 scraps to get one full ticket and you need 5 tickets to get one of the weapons. Scraps are pretty rare in the boxes, full tickets extremely rare.

Sorry if my sarcasm is showing. I love this game to pieces, and I have spent more money than I care to calculate on gem store items since I am lucky enough to be able to do so. Still, I feel somewhat sour about the RNG involved in getting the skins I really want and while I will spend -some- money getting a -few- RNG boxes to try since they usually have at least a minorly useful something even if it’s not the grand prize, I won’t go all out tossing real money at a mere chance to get what I am trying to buy.

Yah I kinda don’t have money anymore. I’ve had to farm out everything myself.

Ranger without pet possibility ?

in Ranger

Posted by: FranBunnyFFXII.3508

FranBunnyFFXII.3508

I think it’s OK that Rangers have pets, but it’s not OK that they are so dumb. They have trouble hitting moving targets for instance, which makes them WAAY weaker in PvP than in PvE.

If we could control our pets better, and if their AI was less kittened, then I’d love them, as it is they’re basically just a free DOT, except a dot that works poorly in PvP.

This so much.

you use the stealth for agro disengage, and damage negate on targeted abilities.

There was a trait for protection when you dodge roll. I don’t recall invulnerability.

it makes you invulnerable for 2 seconds. use both in sequence with your 4 on lb.

negate mass amounts of damage.

I don’t know much about WvW or PvP (dont do it much). What I have noticed though with the stealth, is that it is awsome in PvE as it takes the enemies aggro away and u can gain huge distance or cast anything else with plenty of time… This creates – SURVIVABILITY! And that is awsome! That makes the ranger very strong in a sense… As long as u are alive – u can contribute – and help!

Thanks A-net for this!

you realize there’s a trait for invunderability when you dodge roll right?

Why everyone wants dmg?

Don’t feed the trolls. Everyone with half a brain is loving this change.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I have more than just half a brain and I’m very disappointed by this change. I don’t do pvp on my ranger and don’t care about pvp. I’ve been running LB/SB for a long time, and have always accepted that it isn’t a build for everyone and that many folk on these forums would disagree with my love for the combination of these two weapons and the way in which I can adapt them to different fights.

This new change has really hurt my rotation, but I’ll adjust to that. I always do. Until then, though, I’m going to be saddened by yet another sign that my love for rangers with actual bows in a pve setting isn’t shared by the developers, despite them doing nice things with longbows in other classes.

Even from someone who does PVP, this change sucks.
I loved the Shortbow longbow combo, now longbow has no real place other than to be a low damage avoidance weapon…but for what? 20 second swap time is 20seconds that you’d be doing useless negateble damage?
