How predictable, they screwed the only thing they did not copy/pasted from last year, LOL.
Broken economy is Broken.
Imho NCsoft needs ’’founds’’ to recover from Wildstar fail this summer :P
This article makes a lot of sweeping claims and reads like something I would’ve written in 5th grade. Keep in mind that Season 1, while it had 20 LS episodes, took place over 1 and a half years. In comparison Season 2’s projected 9 episodes will take place over a period of 6 months.
Erm, season one ran from January 2013 to March 2014 and that isn’t a year and a half also apart from a break for Christmas they kept their 2 week schedule with special events along way.
Since ending season one they’ve taken two large breaks from *UPDATING THEIR GAME*(about six months in total) and are likely to end season two before Christmas after seven episodes.
’fixed
I personally feel really let down by the ‘only 4-5 releases left this year’ statement.
Compared to the claim of ‘every two weeks’ this seems like a rather bad joke :/wat
its october
if they have 5 more releases this year that comes down to about 1 per 2 weeks
It will be a MIRACLE to see ONE major update between now and Xmas imho…
Yes, i finished an Arah path2 (back in the good old days, when evrything was fresh and new, when my guild existed, when ascended were not there…) last year totally naked, after a dgn ’’run’’ :P about 5 hours long…i was in ts3 with 4 guildies, 2 of them drunken, 1 partially asleep. Best dgn i ever made, btw. That was fun.

That you seem to be okay with paying over and over and over again to enjoy something you already bought is your problem.
You don’t pay over and over for the same thing. You pay for it to be monitored, fixed, balanced, updated and expanded.
How much permanent content has this game seen in the past two years? What is the amount of new items that were not put into the gem store? How many bug fixes, gameplay features and balance patches got rolled out and with what frequency? How long does it take to contact a representative when you have an account or in-game related issue?
There are no free rides. You’re not forced to pay anything more than the initial box price and that reflects on the quality of the game. Guild Wars 2 has the foundation to be an exceptional product but it lacks solid, constant funding and has to count on the unpredictable gem store revenue that might be sky-high one week and almost non-existent the other.
This.

The only thing dangerous to GW2 right now is ESO but that place is going to be a ghost town in less than a month.
fixed
In my opinion ESO is not dangerous to GW2 in any way as ESO is B2P+P2P+$shop. And I’ve played it a lot during beta but it’s nothing special. Just another generic mmo with a Tamriel sticker on it.
Yeah i agree, it addresses a completly different audience…pple who likes endgame, mature story, deep quest system and cool, darker graphics. Still hope Gw2 improves, but honestly my guild got split…and i’m going to play ’’teso’’ too this sunday
PS: if it has a ’’tamriel’’ sticker, and i don’t think it’s true, gw2 compared to gw1 what is supposed to be xD ???
No. I like Sub-Based MMOs, but it’s late to save GW2. It’ s not funny anymore, only grindy and very repetitive. LS failed and still they didn’t change a thing. I won’t give money to a dying game :P
too much and for nothing. one of the things that made me quit.
^ but many people don’t want instanced raid. That’s why it is much better to do private overflow instead! >
Many people do want this type of content instanced. The best thing for Anet to do is to apply critical thinking and make this content instanced. I’m fine if people want to call it a private overflow rather than an instance. GW2 has all manner of confusing terms and labels and one more won’t hurt anything.
Lol totally agree.
Well, this is your point of view.
I find Tequatle and Wurm the most annoying bosses EVER.
Looong looong waiting around, no way to choose overflow or to play with guild only, terrible loot and scripted spawns/mechanics that makes them rly ’’artificial’’.
It’s probably the worst LS update i played since Tequatle, and for THE SAME reason, they didn’t improve anything in the gameplay, just changed enemy.
So, i played Wurm 5 times, Marionette 12, and never succeded(even guesting), not even ONCE. I’m not here to lose time or to BE played by the game. It’s worse than prepare WoW raids to prepare to do these ‘’world bosses’’.
Not playing anymore until 4th Feb., very very disappointed and kittened.
PS: I hope Deso Pro-players spend a lot on gemstore, because i’m not going to be ’’milked’’ anymore.
We need a lot more of these difficult bosses so people will figure out they aren’t entitled to win every encounter added to the game. You can spam 1 to win 99.9% of PvE; don’t complain when good content is added. If it’s not for you, it’s not for you. But a lot of us are loving this stuff.
I hope to be AFK on one of the platform in YOUR overflow next time ur doing this, so we’ll see how fun is to play with random noobs.
You mean new Dynamic Event chains? Anet has given up on those.
There is Queensdale, isn’t that enough?
Im a civil engineer and I Work 60-70 hours a week in the field. I love this game and really enjoy the time I get to play it. Ive got 4 level 80s, two with map completion, all in at least exotics or better. I unload real money on the gem store regularly.
Im getting discouraged by content like tequila and the worm/marionette because I have not completed any of these, not even once. I realize that if I log at the exact right time after guesting to the correct server and sitting in the zone for an hour+ to get a spot then maybe I have a chance to complete these but that’s not realistic for me.
I have a wife and a 3 year old, they need my time too.
At least I have Spvp solo Q, hot join. If it wasn’t for the fact that I don’t have to gear grind to be on equal footing Id have never bought this game. On a side not that’s why I don’t do WVWVW, because of the ascended gear power creep they implemented.
Back before I got a real life I loved to spvp in WAR and later SWTOR and Rift for a time. So I consider myself a kitten fine player.
Please make content for people like me. We are the ones who actually bring money into your pocket with our real jobs and gem store purchases.
cut out the garbage with the power creep gear grind nonsense, make some more content that I as a great player can do on my own schedule without needing to depend on having no life and the stars aligning.
So, they put in a couple of fights that you can’t just queue up for and do “on your time” and by your utter convenience and suddenly this is a big deal? You think you’re the only type of player who plays this game? Plenty of people here are willing to put in the time, casual and hardcore, and try and down these events. Nothing is stopping you except for your own real world commitments which is not anyone else’s problem.
The majority of the game is very casual friendly. It’s not dependant on gear. It’s not a hardcore raid or die game by any stretch of the imagination. Most content is catered towards people like you, and people who just want to take the game at their own pace.
They put out less than a handful of bosses that are challenging and can’t just be done in a night and out come the wallet warriors and people who, with a 60 hour a week schedule, a wife, and a small child, have no business playing a video game anyways.
Geez. Reminds me of WoW, except this time there is no excuse for it, because like I said, this isn’t a raid or die game by any definition of the term.
Yeah, it’s not like the Marionette will go away or som…no wait, it’s really going away in 2 weeks :P
i know that i played this game since ‘’day one’‘, and i killed Tequatle ONCE….after something like 50+ attempts…and i got HALF of the achievments and 2 rares. I am not playing anymore these ’’world bosses’’ …i’ll wait to see more Fun, more Rewards, less Overflows and less Bugs!
I hope to see raids one day, instead of these world events that are unplayable for the vast majority…
This won’t end well…
Scarlet cancelled it!
Yes, yes, and YES.
Instances will let guilds play when they want, and will also help casuals, because they can ask for ‘’a spot’’ and get helped by guildies more skilled.
Well it is Prime time on Friday night and JQ can’t even fill blood tide main for wurm. Looks like our server has officially given up.
We were 5 pple yesterday at Wurm, so yes, it’s died already on RoF…
Agree, totally needs to be changed.
The problem with non open world events such as raid you let individuals have power over who gets to run them and who dose not get them run them. It makes ppl into dictator who normally are nice ppl. That is if its a hard event when it comes to say dungeons that we have they are not as hard as say a raid so its a lot more open but if you want hard raids like events and you put them into small man only less then 40 in a zone you will only have a small group compared to GW2 over all that can get it done.
So, let’s go asking around how many players did Tequatle once. Sure not 100%. And Teq. was permanent. Marionette will be out of reach for casuals ANYWAY if they don’t have luck and time and get a spot on Deso main…or get the famous ’’taxi’’ from a friend…
And Wurm, well, we’ll see…
+ 100000 This is only reason I’m considering switching to elder scrolls on release. I love the immersion of 1st person. Seeing other characters faces and armor, noticing what creatures I am actually killing, and of course the scenery. Looking up at the sky, entering a huge building. You don’t see anything in 3rd person but the ground.
Elder Scolls Online is third person only. Which is why I am skipping it.
Seriously why must MMORPG makers always opt for third person? It’s kittened.
It’s not .
I can’t believe people are complaining about the Wurm. We’ve been asking for hard content that requires co-ordination since the beta. Now that we have people are complaining.
This is not only the best content Arenanet has released, it’s some of the best content of any MMO.
Best content in any MMO? Highly opinion based.
Only reason anyone is complaining, TBH, is because Arenanet decided to release this as an open-world raid. Releasing it in a raid instance would have solved so many issues that plagues open-world raids. I want hard content, but not hard content that random passerbys can screw up (by not pulling their weight or otherwise).
I see that event as barely playable, very repetitive, and time-wasting: sure not ‘’one of the best events evah1!1!1!’’ :P
i hope it drops at LEAST a legendary…
@maddoctor
So, there is exactly 200 of us and we joined some underpopulated server, and everyone of us got in except for Joe. Now, Joe can not join us ‘cos some local player named Mark is doing some gardening on map to level up his cooking. Joe is is sad. And we don’t want to leave our friend Joe alone. So we try talking to Mark and asking him nicely to leave map so Joe can come and play with us. He can do gardening in overflow. But Mark doesn’t give a potato. He tells us that Tyria is a free world and he can do as he please. Sadly, we are forced to try guesting on another server…. Joe did joined us now, but Samuel and Isabella didn’t…. So after 20 guesting servers we finally decide that it is too late to start anything now and we should try it again tomorrow.
How is this different from an instanced raid of 40 people in a guild of 45?
OMG.
No, really?
Maybe, because with instances (just like dungeons!) you don’t have to wait a very, very, VERY, frustating TIMER???
And if the first 40 guildies DO IT, then some will go out and help the rest…not the day after, but after 5 minutes?!?!
Man, have you ever played other MMOs? Instances are fun for friends and for making new ones. Where there are no instances, you don’t need to know each other, and that kills the so-called ‘’living world’’, and creates only a massive zergfest, hard to control, to understand, to enjoy.
And to pple that said ‘’i hate elitism’‘, i say: you’re like a parasite to the big guilds that actually struggle to beat it, if YOU are standing AFK or fighting with green-items or dying at the first champ. mob that places an AoE!
Making that boss and its achievments ’’temporay’’ only made things worse…
‘’Why there is no UI customisation’’ , fixed
???
I think we’ll wait GW3 then…
sigh… all this hype about the final four releases, fist patch back from a long break and what do we get? Two boring world bosses that will either be to hard and abandoned like the new Tequatl (the most poorly designed epic failure in ArenaNet history) or something like the KarKa Queen who is easy yet no body gives a kitten about it because of its location and effort involved to spawn it.
I honestly was expecting something good in these final four releases, did they learn nothing from the epic train wreck that was Tequatl 2.0?
LOL ? tequatl is the best thing that happened to GW2 since release + fractals … , the only fail here is you been bad and not able to kill him .. in desolation he dies everytime he spawns without TS , and its hell of a fun , i kill him 3 to 4 times a day .. actually guildwars 2 community is going downhill with all thoose whiners …
So, an event works well on ONE server among all, and it’s a success? Cool way of thinking!
It had to be instanced. Stop. There is so little to do at cap with ur guild in this game, bosses would be a good thing…
You know what will be great? If they released an update that had nothing to do with story whatsoever: adding guild features, fixing abysmal loot system, adding precursor hunt, fixing bugs and skills – all the features they promised in 2013.
This.
Sooo much this.
1. DR/Grind/Time Gates/RNG: I get that other games have RNG in them, but here it is extremely bad. It goes beyond traditional RNG. Top that off with DR slapping you down and being stuck behind time gates with massive grinds to obtain anything, and it is just not worth the effort for anything. Like I always say, for a company that prides itself on not making grindy games, they sure do make grindy games.
2. Gem Store: What was supposed to be an innocent place for you to buy cosmetics and convenience items, ended up becoming a gamble fest. Gamble for weapon skin, gamble for dyes, gamble for minis, gamble for weapon tickets/scraps, etc. They just seem to care about conning money out of the player base by making them gamble for everything, instead of caring about player satisfaction. And the fact that the only armor sets and weapons we are actually getting, are in the Gem Store only. Cause god forbid we earn them through in game effort.
3. Ascended Gear: Even Anet admits this was a mistake. They straight up said, by level 80 we should have the best gear in the game. Yet the best gear in the game is behind a large grind and time gated. Introducing Ascended gear was the first step backwards on everything they stated GW2 would be. It was a panic move. They saw players leaving the game (which happens to every single MMO in it’s first few months), yet instead of learning from experience, they panicked and changed the direction of the game just like that to appease a small crowd that already quit.
4. Legendary Weapons: There is absolutely nothing Legendary about these weapons. It is an insult to even call them that. The word is right there in the title. Legend. You don’t do some epic storyline to get them, they don’t have some epic story behind them either. There is no Legend to these weapons whatsoever. They are flashy skins that require a ton of grinding, farming, RNG gambling, and tons of money. And they can be sold on the Trading Post. So please tell me what exactly is Legendary about that? Absolutely nothing.
5. Lack of QA: Let’s face it. There is a severe lack of quality assurance going on here. Anet doesn’t listen to their players, and straight up ignores them on the big issues. Take the recipe reset for example. So many players discovered all the recipes, yet Anet reset all the recipes all those players worked for. They lost gold, time, and materials spent for all that just so Anet didn’t have to make new recipes for us to level off. When the players voiced their concerns, Anet ignored them all and reset them any ways. Then the whole MF fiasco that made a ton of regular MF gear soul bound, instead of account bound like was stated by Anet themselves. They ignored everyone and then even changed the wording on all their statements to say account bound instead of soul bound. They lied to everyone and then tried to cover it up by claiming they never said that. Now here we are again with Fractals being reset. A ton of people are in an uproar about losing all their Fractal levels they worked hard for. And what is Anet doing? Ignoring everyone yet again. They don’t care what we have to say. They are going to do it whether we want them to or not.
And then there is all these content updates that are littered with bugs. Heck, even bugs since release are still here and being ignored. We get content patches every two weeks and every single time it comes out, it breaks a bunch of stuff and causes crashes. Then we get update after update to try and fix them, just to release a new content patch two weeks later that breaks even more stuff. It’s an endless cycle of bugs that keeps piling up cause they don’t fix everything before the next content update.
These are the reasons I quit GW2. There is also the Living Story to add there, with it’s nothing but achievement grind and filler content for a mini or back item, but I’ll leave it at those five (apologizes for the long post).
So true.
I would enjoy the ’’Bard’’ as a specialisation for an’’Archer’’ class, or other ranged/stealth class, just like what i found in ff14
WvsW with no mount feels just…wrong?! I mean, i love infinite desert green plains, BUT travelling a little faster i think would help. And mounts in MMO are always cool thing. But we’re not getting them, making animations and models for mounts…cost a lot more than selling a reskinned armor on gemstore :P
Maybe the 1°expansion in 201X will have them.
You’re not ’’forced’’ to kill Tequatle expecting a reward.
I think you (OP) got the point: while having lots of build options is cool, having no role, since the only role is DPS, makes that useless. Non-vertical progression could have been a good thing, IF the core gameplay was a lot bigger…imho they realized their limits after release…and Ascended stuff and gemstore skins came out.
I liked this game, i wasn’t a Wow player, so this was my first ’’great’’MMO. Now i simply got bored and stopped playing waiting some good updates (i mean…not skins and not cute pets/NPCs, but REAL content, lol!). I would pay for an expansion, sure.
I tried Wow, and found it very disappointing…too static during combat and too boring to level up ’till the cap. No more the genre ppl is asking i think.
PS: I made some examples from another MMO game, the one i’m playing now, about ways of improving the PvE experience, but i got infracted, so i can’t do them anymore i think.
I think many players just play TP and buy on gemstore, so WHY polishing combat? All you can get by fighting in PvE is blue crap, green crap …and shiny-token-collectible-limited-time-crap. Sadly, cool things are obtained with money in this game.
1) No sub. fee.
2) Easy to level up.
3) The precursor i never got.
4) Sanctum Sprint
5) Fractal concept(not realisation)
Guys, we paid the game. We’re not getting other big things. Spending money on gems is like buying hats in TF2, and all the few ’’new’’ features gw2 implemented can be copied in any MMO out there in 2014.
They throw away Trinity but now we’re all Berserker. They said no vertical progression and we’re now forced to farm for ascended(even for WvsW, bad choice guys, bad choice…). They said living world…and i see ONE map full of bots and afk ppl, tons of overflows of that same map, and the rest of the world is a desert.
This game had NOTHING special…not so-good, not so-bad, but it’s really nothing compared to GW1, who struggled to rise during ‘’Wow domination’‘, that was the only real ’’Guild Wars’’ game!
I don’t believe I’ve finished more than 50% of the LS achievements since release. I did complete Southsun for the back pieces and Zephyr Sanctum for the useless quartz node. Most everything else, I stopped playing once the solo bits were over with. I don’t group for dungeons and I don’t ride zerg trains. I play the game for the story and there isn’t much story presented at the moment.
Try ff14 then.
I stopped playing
Ok, you know what? If the endgame in GW2 is getting skins, and skins are sold only for gems, then i can call it P2W. The reason is simple: ’’winning’’ isn’t a thing about killing others in this game…is about looking better. You say ascended made this a vertical progression? C’mon. I have as much gold as a bum, but i have my ascended weapons…you can CRAFT THEM. And the sum of stats(among them) is always the same, so that’s NOT vertical progression.
Usually a P2W game is where you get better items for doing nothing…’’BETTER’’= flaming T3 compared to normal T3, or am i wrong?
How you can deny these moves? The ’’toxic’’armour and NPCs weapons for cash? Not dropping from instance bosses in the tower? Really?
And that’s only a aprt of the problem.
You remember Zephirite’s skins? You could drop, buy with tokens, buy with gem boxes… now the pop. has been decreasing, and BIG SURPRISE, you can now get new things only with wallet!
’’There’s not worse blind than the one who doesn’t want to see.’’
League of Legends is p2w because skins are also not for free. Lol.
No, because LoL has PvP. ehm.
Evrything would be fine if in the inventory we had TWO pages…one for the skins, one for real armour. When you put on a skin, you don’t overwrite the armor…just keep its stats and the new appearence. If you put on another armor of the same type, you get its stats but the skin remains the same…
I saw this working PERFECTLY in another MMO…i think i cannot mention it clearly(?), but it’s D.P.
In this way many players wuold not have spent OTHER gems only to put that gemstore skin on existing armour.
Nice, this is a very good decision!
Yeah, not really a memorable reward…but hey, if you want items there is a gemstore right there!
-facepalm
Wintersday won’t end well.
This won’t end well. Scarlet was there.
I don’t like going DPS, but other builds with my War feel lacking something. And why the hell should i try to tank, if 1/2 boss skills ONESHOT you in this game? And even flaming balls(CoFp1) and other ambiental danger(falling i.e.) kill you SO easy?
Bosses doesn’t react in a realistic way to damage they take!!! Damage won’t make them use powerful attacks, run away, or heal…unless they’re scripted to do that!
And to use all these scripts to cover the lame AI, and the poor combat (dodge-DPS-dodge-WIN) they gave Bosses tons of HP = players went DPS or gtfo.
(and in lots of cases bugged them…tnx for the 4-hours TA with no loot at the end, or for the temples where NPCs don’t spawn…again)
They are developers, not entertainers or PR-people.
They can try, maybe?
I voted against random. No problem here.
Me too! I voted to go against GEMSTORE. Who cares wich fractal come out first…
