I don’t worry too much about revenants. I run vanilla power rifle with signet of might and signet mastery. I’m not a great warrior, but I was able to make it to legendary this PvP season with this build. A lot of the mechanics of this build come about because of wanting to deal with the endless blocks of the DH. Works nicely against revenants as well. Using diviner’s (which isn’t available in the build editor yet).
What Choppy said. Mobility. In WvW. I like running rifle. Sword/shield keeps me alive longer than greatsword.
No, vanilla is not viable. Which is why I played vanilla rifle from diamond to legendary this PvP season
Ended up working better for me than zerk rifle, but that’s just me.
How do you play this? Point camp or team fight etc
It’s situational and has a lot to do with my general approach to PvP (which could be flawed).
Defensively, I’ll solo camp far or mid. I’ll engage on any point to prevent cap or prevent decap regardless of odds. This build has huge resistance uptime, two direct damage invulns, adrenal health, and nice blocks and CC with mace/shield. I also use rifle butt a lot to smack enemies off point.
Offensively, I’ll engage in a fight with even numbers or better except 1v1. No reason to stand on a point held by the enemy while they’re on it. Rifle can pump out some nice damage on focused target. Signet mastery and signet of might provide 2 opportunities to bypass projectile shields. I usually have kill shot and volley ready. No need for full adrenaline on kill shot.
Once engaged, it’s usually win or die. Keep moving. Dodge. Aimed shot and brutal shot to keep distance. Swap to mace/shield if someone wants to get in your face. I’ll disengage if either (A) we outnumber the enemy by more than 1 or (B) if we outnumber the enemy by 1 after an enemy splits off from the fight to decap an adjacent point we hold.
Had to modify my build to get traction into legendary, but I finally made it with vanilla rifle. I guess I’m kinda mediocre as a warrior, and I encountered several haters along the way. ~90% solo queue. Played/won 524/242 (yikes). Build as follows with Diviner’s.

You still get 50% boon duration, which should be more then enough.
This set-up allows for 21 seconds of back to back quickness, absolutely batkitten crazy if you ask me. It focusses on dealing very fast and high sustained damage through Heightened Focus, Frenzy and Fatal Frenzy.
Ah, yep, my mistake. Meant to choose Heightened Focus rather than Burst Mastery. As I’m too lazy to make Commander’s, the build I run in WvW is actually very similar to what Cygnus proposes, using Berserker’s.
Not sure what you’re hoping to use this build for. I run mace/shield + rifle in ranked PvP as described in the following thread.

I enjoy playing boon duration stance warrior in PvP. Described in the following thread.

Based on this, I’ve been considering something like the following for WvW.
I do mace/shield + rifle in PvP. For WvW, I might experiment with swapping either for greatsword.
Wow you play last stand? I salute you sir. I love that trait. it’s too bad it compets with cleansing Ire and rousing resilience. (especially rousing resilience, as i’d love to have an auto stun break that procs rousing resilience)
Yeah, all are nice traits. I run rousing resilience with Viper’s and cleansing ire with everything else. Except on this build. Huge resistance uptime and brawler’s recovery make cleansing ire less important. Toughness from rousing resilience is nice; but adrenal health, shield 5, and rifle 4 keep me out of enough trouble. The stance duration of last stand, boon duration of the build, and the 3 stance utilities all complement each other well. Last stand’s auto-proc of stability is also nice. In my matches so far, I’ve only been pulled a couple of times by a guardian.
This is what I play—with Diviner’s.
I’m not a great warrior. Played/won is 154/78. I decided not to post the build unless I could take it to Diamond. Since that day has come, I guess I’ll shoot for Legendary.
Some points to consider as follows.
(1) Boons like quickness, stability, and resistance are kinda trolly on this build. Stealing stronghold mists—low hanging fruit.
(2) Can almost always apply mild pressure and burst frequently with immunity.
(3) Win most v1s against any profession. Thieves and mesmers are the toughest for me; and I’ve fought a few guardians, revenants, thieves, and mesmers that I was pretty sure there was no way I could mechanically beat them.
(4) Guardians require some patience. I find that keeping distance while using auto-rifle with quickness to probe for opportunity works well. Then close and beat the snot out of them.
(5) You’ll catch a lot of grief for running rifle.
I’ve been roaming with a build based on yours with good success. Shield rather than torch. I traited Shield Master, Cleansing Ire, and Heightened Focus at first; but I found that your original selections of Dogged March, Rousing Resilience, and Burst Mastery work better for me—especially Rousing Resilience when I use Balanced Stance instead of Shattering Blow.
Interesting build. Nice play. Your stat choices seem so specific, like you were aiming for some exact numbers you had in mind. Just curious about your rationale.
Hello there. Alot of pvp warrior builds are focused a round damage. In wvw its a bit different as they are there for blast finishers and banners.

Pretty sure warriors still run like this
I can see the utility of this build for larger team fights, but my impression is that I’d have my kitten handed to me in smaller roaming encounters. Am I wrong, or are there general themes that might be better for roaming?
Was checking out the new paired server play in WvW last night. Fun! My server (IoJ) struggles with low WvW population. It was nice to see zergs again, tons of roamers, thieves to gank you around every corner, and actual battleground queues.
I’ve spent most of the past year in PvP. On warrior. Yes, sick and wrong. Latest balance patch is helpful.
So I find myself wondering about translating my PvP builds to WvW. Is this even sensible, or should I start from scratch? What do you see as key differences between PvP and WvW builds? I mainly like to roam but also want to survive in zerg combat.
Thanks for any guidance.
Hmm, yeah, I can work with that. Welcome changes.
Welcome changes IMO. Should go a long way towards getting rid of the sad bunker fest that makes the current season so boring.
