“comparable loot drops to just playing normally”. So they ARE stealing from us if you are correct about the “comparable loot drops to just playing normally”

Why do you presume that Unid gear is worthless unless identified? Everything we know so far points to it being worth more in gold as a regular salvage material. Even if the 85 is a statistical irrelevance it is the only data we have on the matter right now and thinking it’s significantly wrong is a pointless assumption to make.

Greens and blues are worthless as actual gear and they just stopped pretending it isn’t and just consolidated them all together into one item and added a sink for it to gamble for rares (Which is exactly what we have but better because you don’t have a major risk of loss). I’m working off the presumption that rares and exos drop regularly regardless, as said in the thread linked before, with a few unique exotics ones being locked behind the identification, which lets admit it, they would have locked behind something else regardless.

Mystic or Master Kits to salvage Blue or Green gear

Yeah that’s why I said it makes no difference because you get the same basic mats either way.
Green sigils could gain to rise a bit in price because they’re worth jacks- at the moment. And it’s not like PoF will be the only content ever to exist now, plenty of people will still be doing the HoT map metas and world bosses and whatnot. Regular greens and blues will still be abundant.

Secondly, the guy is using Silver-matic…how many people, in reality, have this item or find it a viable option?
The entire mechanic is wrong, even if mat drop rate stays at 200% people will want to identify gear, and it is a loss not gain.

Firstly, Silver-o-matics have the exact same stats as master kits or mystic kits and almost everyone uses those.
Secondly the percentages of the kits only apply to rare materials and upgrade recovery, not regular materials so you get the same amount of ore/wood/leather as with a crude kit.

Also whether or not it’s a loss to identify those is entirely dependant on market value and how much the skins are personally worth to you. If ectos are way higher and regular mats are low then it’s profitable to identify. If regular mats are expensive as they are right now then it’s more profitable to straight up salvage them. It’s a way to stabilize material prices and tie them to the ectoplasm supply.

but completely ignoring the surefire outcome of the materials price hike that will come out of this. UND is no-win no-win mechanic.

According to the reddit link someone posted before, salvaging the unidentified gears gives more materials of all different tiers than identifying them and then salvaging them.
So I don’t understand why people are saying that you can’t make an informed decision. You absolutely can.

  • You either salvage them for reliable income depending on the market value of the mats.
  • You identify them if you need the sunspear skins, need the special tokens or feel lucky enough to get the rares

And as far as I know rares still drop the regular way anyway. There’s no way to know the actual rates and how they were changed of course.

Rude_Asura on Reddit did some tests during the demo weekend, here are the results:

Salvaging unidentified gear directly VS identifying gear before salvaging:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/6tidl8/loot_table_from_salvaging_85_each_unidentified/?sort=old

Well, reading that thread it seems to say that rares and exotics still drop regardless, so it goes back to my original point that these are purely salvageable currencies for gambling. If you don’t lose your regular rare drops, and your greens are worth more, because they could be rares, then isn’t it a plus? It also normalizes the material prices by making lower tier mats more available. And someone did the maths and salvaging the unidentified seems to be worth more, but identifying them gives you a chance for the sunspear skins and the elite spec collection weapons.
So you identify if you’re feeling lucky and want the skins and salvage otherwise.

You are losing something though. There’s an opportunity cost here that not everyone seems to understand. That is (lemme get a definition from wikipedia):

“the opportunity cost, also known as alternative cost, is the value (not a benefit) of the choice of a best alternative cost while making a decision. A choice needs to be made between several mutually exclusive alternatives; assuming the best choice is made, it is the “cost” incurred by not enjoying the benefit that would have been had by taking the second best available choice."

So there is an opportunity cost associated with choosing to salvage and also an opportunity cost associated with choosing to ID it (and probably then salvage the results). To say you’re not losing out on anything by choosing one of these mutually exclusive paths is just not true. It’s more accurate to say that you don’t care about the opportunity costs but not everyone feels the same way.

But it’s the same thing when you dump them in the mystic forge.
You lose out on the salvage mats and might get one useless green instead of 4. And if you salvage them you lose out on the chance of getting a rare. There is never such a thing as best of both worlds.
The real question that makes the difference is whether or not we get rare and exotic drops regardless of the unidentified gear drops.

Edit:

Despite the mental gymnastics by some people trying to justify this system, having to pay to get loot you have earned is a terrible idea.

The loot is the salvage material. No one treats blues and greens as anything but salvage trash in this game. And it’s the same as before, you can gamble those blues and greens away for a chance at a higher tier with an average net loss, except without runes and with less inventory slots.

I feel like there there is a major misunderstanding as to what unidentified gear is.
There is no exotic or precursor “hiding” under there, it is simply a generic salvage item called “unidentified gear”. It doesn’t preroll anything.
You can either salvage it right there for profit or use it as a currency to gamble for good gear with heart vendors, which will on average always net you a loss. That’s how gambling works.

Identifying it on heart vendors is essentially the same thing as flushing your gear down the Mystic Forge, which gives you a chance of the next tier.
You’re not losing anything.

There are empty bars that say “trap power”, there’s a white circle around the traps and there are guns lying around that say lift and drag ooze. How could you have not made that connection? You should have at least figured out you need to charge the traps.

We did this, then finally managed to drag the Ghost Eater over, then. . . nothing happened, he was still invulnerable. Then later on, as in a few minutes later, he had a 10 second burst of vulnerability. Working as intended? Bugged? Does it have to do with whether he has other Ectoplasms around him? How do we know?

This hasn’t happened to me yet and it indeed seems to be a bug. I have no idea how a severe bug like this gets past the testing. As well as the horrible drop of fps whenever a burrow appears.

I seriously cannot believe how you manage to wipe multiple times on Spider, Troll and Kholer.
For the spider, simply hug her and pick up anyone who goes down, don’t stand inside the red circles and bring condition heals.
The troll essentially became a easier Subject Alpha, the red rings appear, count to two, press your dodge button and dodge towards him. Everything else he does is harmless, the stun might be annoying but it doesn’t do much damage. It’s also easily avoidable since it has a long telegraph.
And Kholer is just a joke now. Avoid his spin like always, for the rest of the fight hug him and unleash all your hundred blades. If ghosts appear, focus them and they will go down without problem. Both their damage and their health bars were nerfed quite a bit.
Also, have you guys ever tried to rez someone who is downed?

You played one dungeon, ragequit and then blame the game?
Your skill level is not the norm. Those champion hardcore dungeon players as you say are the average players who are able to both pay attention to the boss and know their class’ skills.

I’m with this guy. Ghost eater is definitely a problem. Its not anywhere near being fun. I get it requires cooperation between two pairs of the players (to do lift and then drag), but it doesn’t tell you what to do with them. It was not intuitive, my group couldn’t figure out how to remove the shield from him.

Run a dungeon with Five Engineers. There’s your difficulty increase without all the suggestions to run naked or without traits. We can jack of all trades every roll but at a somewhat lacking, what is perceived as “poor” performance rate.

It is doable by the way. Also, it would help increase the almost barren Engineer population.

Handicapping yourself doesn’t change anything in the dungeon. The only thing it changes is how long you need to whack on a boss. Might as well triple all mob health bars in a dungeon and call it hard mode. That’s not challenging, it’s just annoying.
What people want is a real hard mode that requires skill from every player and knowledge of the dungeon mechanics
See CoF p3 before the patch. The torches part was completely doable, however it required communication and good timing. EVERY party member needed to be able to carry his own weight. Now you can just faceroll through it while waiting for the other two members of your group to stop afk’ing.

Of fun, hearts, minigames and dungeons

in Suggestions

Posted by: Galactic.6453

Galactic.6453

I will apologize in advance if this thread seems to general to be put in the suggestions section but I could not find a more fitting section.

Frankly speaking, and I’m sure most people who have discovered most of Tyria will agree that 80% of renown hearts are boring. Most of them are the same but with different context, kill x amount of y, run around and press F to win, or collect n amount of animal pieces. Now, I’m not saying that renown hearts are the worst thing ever and should be removed, nor are they bad per se. They definitely are a step above than your regular fetch or other traditional quest. But why stop there? Why be happy with “better than average” instead of “great”?

That’s where the other 20% come in. I’m talking about the hearts that are distinct from all the others, possibly the highlights of the zones they are in. They all have very different mechanics to be completed and most of them are minigame-like. These are the most fun and I enjoy them every time, no matter how many alts I’ve done them on.
Here are some examples off the top of my head.

- The Seraph training heart in the south of Queensdale, where you have to pick up a training weapon and time your blocks and attacks against Seraph.

- Charradis Estate in Diessa Plateau: You have to catch the right bug and feed them to the right cattle, all with a time limit.

- The heart in the western part of Snowden Drifts with Briar the Tanner: You have to catch rabbits with a bow that you have to aim yourself. Pretty frustrating if you don’t know how to do it but it’s amazingly fun if you get it right.

- The prison in Iron Marches, where you have to collect ore and throw it into the furnaces. That doesn’t sound so different by itself but running around and actually having to throw the ore is pretty exciting if you try to do it quickly. It would be even better to have some kind of time limit on it. FASTER! FASTER! BREAK THAT ROCK!

There are a few more but I can’t remember them without looking them up but I hope everyone understands what I’m talking about.
Now, what am I actually suggesting?
Well the simplest answer would be: Make more of those kinds of minigame-y renown hearts. Not every single one has to be like that but more than one in every zone would definitely make 100%ing maps less boring.

Secondly, turning some of them into actual minigames, like the holiday event minigames would be great. Just imagine, if most zones had a minigame like that, surely more people would come and visit otherwise empty zones. I would prefer if entering the game wouldn’t teleport you out of the zone but just put you in some kind of arena/platform/fenced zone you can’t access otherwise. They don’t even have to be terribly complicated minigames.
For example, let’s take the Charradis Estate. You’d only need a second fenced in zone with their own cows and bugs, a timer, a score, and voilá, it’s a minigame.

But those are all things for wasting time, having some diversity in the otherwise boring 100%ing of maps.

Now what is that about the dungeons? Let me explain. I do CoE often because I want charged cores and after a while you just stop paying attention and press your skills mindlessly to finally beat this bunch of trash mobs so you can get your chest and your blues and greens and no cores. Even Alpha is just dodge once every 7 seconds, spam your skills, however that is still something you need to pay attention to unlike some other bosses in some other dungeons. I often find myself enjoying the laser part of all things, it wakes me up and gives me a good chuckle whenever I fail because I was sleeping or someone swifted us, killing everyone.

What I am actually trying say is, put more minigame-ish gimmicky parts into dungeons that require reaction time and some hand-eye coordination. Not something extreme, just some minigame that takes your mind off the constant skill spamming. Some dungeons already have these, like the CoF p1 orb carrying. But I’m thinking about something that requires even more attention and teamwork. Like carrying an artifact through a number of traps, while passing that artifact between players to avoid damage from the traps and open new pathways. Or if we take the Bell Orchestra and turn it into a gate unlocking system, maybe even with a random factor. These are just simple examples so please don’t scream at me how they wouldn’t work because of x, y, z, I’m just trying to clarify what I’m talking about. Things like these would definitely make dungeons less of a chore.

In the end, all three of my suggestions are about making the monotonous gameplay a bit less monotonous, it doesn’t have to be exactly as I said, but I’m just hoping for more polish to the existing areas to make the core game more enjoyable and fun.

Oh wow, this ended up way longer than I had expected, so cheers to everyone who read all of this.

Sticky event notifications for event chains

When you participate and finish an event and there is another one following it you should get a notification of it even if you’re out of the area.

I don’t know how many times I was in a relatively empty region and did an event with someone else, but right after finishing it that guy just walks away because he thought there was nothing here anymore. Most people just don’t know they should stick around and wait for the next part of the chain or a reward. And some of them are just very hard to do alone.
If people knew there was still something going on where they just did an event 5 seconds ago they wouldn’t be running around aimlessly searching for another event.

People are trying to do as much as possible in their time and they just don’t get the idea to stand around and wait a while instead of rushing to the next event/heart/vista/whatever.

1800 dungeon tokens for dungeon set NOT including weapons you want AND the gift for legendary weapon of your choice AND lodestones that you need for legendary.
not to mention over 2 mil of karma to get said legendary

Seriously, I’m more worried about how a level 60 rare weapon costs 35k karma. It’s not exotic, you’ll stop using it after you get something better the next day AND the skin drops commonly enough that you can just buy one for 2 silver off the TP and transmute it.
The only karma weapons worth buying are the T3 ones because of their unique skin.
Did they even QC their fixes?

And then there are the AC dungeon armors that are level 60 despite it being impossible to still be level 60 after you already got all your tokens unless you start farming as soon as you hit 35.

I feel like Arenanet was surprised at how quickly people got things that they thought would be only obtainable in more than a month.
Honestly, those aren’t the average players. Most of those who already are level 80 and play normally barely have the money for exotics yet.
You should have known that some people just want to be faster than anyone else. It doesn’t mean that everyone already has 5 level 80 characters decked out in full exotics and have 1000 gold sitting in their bank.

Arenanet, stop trying to artificially extend the time the hardcores have to spend while punishing the more casual majority of the playerbase.
Stop panicking and calm down. Wait a month until the economy has settled down and then start adjusting it.

Hey guys, I don’t know if this really is a bug but I play a Charr and noticed that some of the pauldrons practically float on your shoulders.

You can see the underside and the background through it and it’s really ugly when running, especially since the Charr run on all fours.
I have a Norn warrior too, and they have the same problem but the pauldrons aren’t floating as high.

I don’t know if this is unintentional or supposed to prevent clipping but I’d rather have shoulder armor that doesn’t look totally out of place. You’ll be staring on their backs for 90% of your playtime anyway so that little bit of chest clipping on the front wouldn’t be so bad IMO. I currently have shoulder armor turned invisible until I get a better set but it just looks incomplete.

I’m wearing the feathered (level 75-80 tailor armor) chestpiece and mantle in my attached picture and as you can see it’s really bad. The dry bones set had it, too.

Why is travel more expensive than the best reward from DEs?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Galactic.6453

Galactic.6453

The problem isn’t only the cost for the travel. The money reward from events is generally too low. If you die even once on a high level event you already lose the money you would get because fixing one level 80 armor piece costs one silver. And if no one else is around, which is very common in the higher level areas, you need to warp a few times because you’ll just be overwhelmed by the amount of mobs.

I’ve found it very frustrating trying to complete a small event alone only to notice that I’ve already lost 8 silver. And don’t tell me that I suck at this game yadda yadda, even normal high level events are so filled with mobs that all attack you at once you have to warp a few times to finish it.
And why should I even finish it if I get ten times more money from killing a few harpies and selling their blood? I bet some events sit there for hours or days without anyone bothering to do it.
Events are nice and all but there’s really almost no incentive to try and do them alone at higher level areas.
