This 2 videos prove that large scale battles only sound good on paper, in reality they’re just terrible in video games.
overall it’s a good change, but for new players leveling a mesmer as the first character will be even more painful
Some good changes there, no question.
But…
No way to save our builds?
I asked the same question to myself…
well resetting traits is a nice change, hopefully we’ll be able to save templates too soon
So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1

3/10, only because I love the idea behind the living world and I’m happy that anet tried to do something different from other mmos. However, the execution was just simply terrible:
-weak story
-too much temporary content over permanent ones. I don’t mind temporary if it’s good for the story, but the majority of the content should stay. As someone who took quite a few long breaks it felt like the game remained the same everytime I came back to play.
-RNG on temporary items (very very bad idea)
-zerg zerg zerg zerg…. anet should really stop this
-I don’t know why anet thinks that open world bosses that need 150 people to finish are epic. Maybe on paper it is, but gameplay-wise, no. It’s really chaotic and zergy… giving a boss millions of HP and put it on a timer might be “hard”, but not challenging -> it’s just a DPS check (gogo ‘zerkers). Yes, even Teq and Wurm feels like a zergfest, even though they have some added mechanics. (exception are guilds who kill them on their own overflow, that’s something I respect).
-Not to mention that 25% of the people are afk (leeching), 25% of the people are just simply bad and die, and wait for the ress instead of running back from a WP, other 1/4 of them just “play how they want” and don’t want to coorporate. So yes, open raid bosses which require a lot of people aren’t epic, they are just bad.
-bugs everywhere, and anet doesn’t really care about them – it will go away in 2week anyway…
Honestly, I think RNG can be really good – moderately. It makes things rare and give you a feel of happines if you’re lucky.
The biggest problems of RNG in GW2:
-many things depend on rng which should not (example: precursors)
-gem shop items should never be locked behind rng
-lot’s of temporary rng items that make the game grindy if you really want to get it while you can (and you most likely won’t be lucky enough)
-rewards nothing if you’re not lucky: People don’t save civs because 99.99% of the time you get nothing useful and wasted ~45mins of your life, so they zerg instead
77. It’s so relaxing running around Orr ever since we cleansed it, the low amount of enemies and the colourful flowers on the field is really awesome.
edit: kitten it’s really early in the morning, didn’t see it’s in pvp section sorry :/

Nice, but nowhere in your post did you say anything useful on how you leveled so fast.
He probably levelled by “farming” something. There were many bugged things that was imbalanced and gave too much reward, and people (as usual) found and used them. For example there was an event that restarted almost immediately after being finished (I’m not sure which one was it as I haven’t been there). I was one of the highest level in my guild at that time, but I had to take a 1-day break and when I came back some of my guildies were already ~30 levels higher than me, and that event they farmed was already patched.
But back at release it was generally easier to level than now (unless you craft, but new players don’t have money for that). I doubt I ever seen any event that didn’t have at least 5 players on it. I remember I just ran from events to events, tried to get enough for gold and then moved to the next one hoping I can reach it before finished and to get credit.
Now DEs have run out of their purpose… No ones doing it, the world feels like a giant graveyard with the amount of dead npcs caused by unfinished events. And right now people don’t care about saving a village, because it will be invaded again 5 mins later, back at release at least there were always people doing them so it wasn’t a big problem. I think anet should really make DEs easier for new solo players or add more rewards to them to compensate the lack of players doing them, and should increase the restart time of each event.
ps: oops sorry i went way offtopic
Just like those additional PvP Game Modes we were promised when, September 2012?
How about that “Expansions worth of content”? Let’s not forget those Fractal Leaderboards either.
Or the precursor scavenger hunt… oh wait, it’s precursor CRAFTING now, which still isn’t ingame.
I don’t understand why people want a stat swap. It’s not like berserker won’t be the best gear anymore. Most people will continue to use it, as long as there’s a shared cap on conditions and the boss/combat mechanics will be still “dodge or die” (so basically any defensive stat is useless).
Arenanet is just trying to hide the problem, not fixing it. This change will only make already long and boring bossfights even longer and more boring, so imo it’s a really bad change.
Also, this:
And after that 10% nerf? Nothing changes. And then what? Another 10%?
So after salvaging 1500 level 80 fine armor, I’ve got:
-656 blue (common) Essence of Luck
-128 green (uncommon) EoL
-11 yellow (rare) EoL
It boosted me from 35% MF to 67%
I know it doesn’t matter what salvage kit you use, but since I don’t have an infinite one, I used mystic kits for convenience reasons.
Why no greens? ’cause they have that “are you sure want to salvage” window (or maybe anet removed that already?), it would be a pain in the A to salvage all of them. Plus they are more expensive xD
video proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10FU1hsLUDA
ps: I hope there’s at least someone who needed these results xD
Personally I find it weird that races other than humans are getting a mini queen jennah as a birthday gift. Wouldn’t it be more appropriate if they get a mini related to their races? Like a mini trahearne for sylvaris. I’m sure they would love that! :O
Also I would’ve liked a cool toy better than another mini, like the balloon/kite/musical instrument/rose bouquet or whatever. Or a toy caladbolg that i can use in costume brawls.
It’s tied in with the current lore. My guess is the birthday gift isn’t coming from Anet but from Queen Jennah herself, to celebrate her ten years ruling. And since all the races have representatives there, it’s not really lore breaking to me.
What about characters that are made in winter/spring etc? By that time QJ won’t be in the middle of the lore I guess. So it would make more sense to give presents according to races.
Or how did this work in gw1? (I didn’t play on that game) For example if I make a character on let’s say 10th of september this year, then will I get a QJ mini on sept. 10 in 2014 as my “first birthday present”?
The surprise will be HUGE.
Maybe, or maybe not.
Sadly, when anet says something like “huge/exciting/big/etc” it doesn’t mean that most players will think the same. Thus those players go on forums complaining about how disappointed they are and/or how anet “lied”.
Sigh, another mini… at least it’s for free now. I hate how almost every meta achievement rewarded a mini so far. What about those who don’t care about them? Seriously, at least make them sellable. -.-
PvE culling fix sounds nice, but I wonder how my computer will handle big fights.
The queens speech… I have my expectations very low so at least I won’t be disappointed. I hope it will be a pleasant surprise though, with an actual story (no matter how big/small it is), and not just another festival/minigame/jumping puzzle. I’m sick of them.
Imo Liadri is not that hard, I did it in around 15-20 tries, (though I played with my mesmer and I think they really shine in this fight…)
Sure, you probably won’t defeat her in 5-10 tries, but everything spawn at the same place and in the same order (which makes phase 1 really easy) so you should get better and better as you go on. My advice for those who don’t have vigor/acces to dodge to bring as many condi removal as you can and in phase 2 stay as close to the center as possible. Also, this way the camera shouldn’t bother you much but you’ll need to pay extra attention to those orbs which pulls you and destroy them fast. With this method I rarely had to dodge and always had at least enough endurance for a second dodge if needed.
What really really hard is the Light up the Darkness achievement. I think I won’t go for this, not really worth it for me. But I appreciate Anet for making that achievement, probably the first achi in GW2 that I give up on because I think I’m not skilled enough to get it and not because it’s too time-consuming.
And of course I could try Liadri with gambits, which I probably will in the future for extra difficulty.
If you are still missing that one place in maguuma, this might help you:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/84283-answered-maguuma-exploration-achievement-help/
why do I have a feeling 80% of the ppl voting for kiel only votes for her for the cheaper waypoints?
More likely, the majority of people voting don’t use the site and have no idea what either is actually offering, and simply like the person they know and view as the “good guy”.
Did you know if you talk to Kiel or Evon INGAME you can ask them what they promise?
If people can’t read, it’s their problem, but it’s not an excuse for why Kiel is winning.
Personally I think ppl vote for Kiel because it’s “against RNG boxes” and not really because of cheaper waypoints. On the other hand, most Evon supporters are voting for the fractal, which is more stupid imo, maybe Abaddon sounds better, but it doesn’t mean it will be actually better.
Since we don’t know the true numbers, Anet can chose whichever candidate they want. Maybe they’ll be honest with the election, maybe not. We will never know. The only thing I know for sure that whichever candidate wins, the other party’s biggest supporters will cry and whine about it and will accuse arenanet for cheating…
I’m always scared when I’m looking at patch notes (the balance part), and now I’m really surprised that we didn’t get nerfed – I believe it’s the first time since release :O
Tiny changes, but finally no nerfs so I don’t mind….
also, new traits/skills? i think they should balance the existing ones before they start talking about new stuff. this game could need at least 1 or 2 more ‘big balancepatches’.
Well there will never be proper balance in any games… What they need to do is to stop balancing PvE around sPvP, so basicly don’t nerf unnecessarily skills that are fine/already underwhelming in PvE.
I wish they would make ascended gear similar to what they’ll do with legendaries. To be able to switch the stats of ascended gear. I doubt anet will do this, especially not for free, but maybe if you have to pay a small amount of silver/gold or X% of the materials needed to craft the item, wouldn’t it be fine? PvPers can easily try out as many builds as they want, why can’t PvE players do the same? This system is lacking for those who run multiple builds in PvE, I mean, you can’t even save your traits…..
Doing this would also help players with lot of alts. Since ascended gear is so time-gated, I think being able to switch stats would be fine.
MH pistol for mesmers and I’ll never complain!
@OP forgot to mention: LFG tool is coming soon!
-dungeon reward changes: is it against Cof p1 farming? was about time
-crafting precursors: finally, I’m sitting on my 3 gifts for almost half a year and I already dumped tons of gold into the M. toilet, so I refuse to spend any more money (though I’ll probably have to a lot after they implement this system, but if it’s not RNG I don’t mind…)
-ascended gear: already know this game is against alts, but this will make them even worse especially being account bound and the materials are once/day (I guess it’ll be similar to quartz). Oh and of course all those transmuting.
Hopefully mesmers will be able to use MH pistol soon
800 hours since headstart, about ~150-200 hours were just AFK or chatting in LA/with guildies I guess. And I thought I’m a hardcore player (if I do the math I played a little less than 3h/day), but after this thread I’m not sure anymore. xD
I already won 2 times (my moa finished 1st place) but it just didn’t count in the achievement. My guildies have the same problem.
edit: seems like it’s only a problem with mystery moa.

need EU balthazar temple please any news?
Open on Piken Square (eu).
Conclusion
Guild Wars 2 failed. By ArenaNet’s own definition of success, “Is it fun?”, the answer often is “no, it’s not”
Yeah, well, that’s just like, your opinion man.
^ This. I won’t even bother to read all that wall of text after this.
There are many things that I find disappointing in this game, but to say it’s “failed” is hilarious and biased.
Open on Piken Square (eu) now, not sure for how long as I haven’t been there when players opened it.
I hope they will make ascended and legendary items account-bound someday…
After hearing about the SotG, it really made me wonder why anet starts (or rather continue) to nerf everything… I saw many games falling into the same mistake, and I really don’t want to experience it in GW2.
The title might be not the best option, but personally I think it describes really well this mentality:
-„Oh look, that skill/build is better than the others!” (I hate to use the word „OP”)
-„Okay, let’s hit it hard so it’ll be at the same place as them.”
Seriously, no. This is not the way you should achieve balance. Well obviously, if a skill is way too good and do much more than it should, it’s okay to tone it down a little. But there aren’t many skills like that in this game, imo. 100blade zerker warriors are undoubtedly one of the best dps builds (yes I’m a pve player), and that skill hasn’t been touched yet, while other skills that were nowhere as useful got nerfed. I realize that most of it was because of PvP and the skill-split might help, but I still want to say this for future balance patches:
Don’t look at skills that are good/better than others. Only nerf when the skill is really too powerful and/or a change is needed. Focus on skills that are unused/not good enough. I’m mainly a mesmer (not a big fan of alts, only other char I have is a warrior), and even though my profession has the biggest number of viable builds according to what I’ve read on forums (I’m not gonna argue about this as I don’t play other classes much), there’s still a lot of skills that need some works. I barely see any mesmer with scepter, torch, mantras, disenchanter and signets for example. It might be even worse for other professions.
As for PvP… Remember that variety can change the meta. If 1 skill/build seems a bit better than other, you could buff up unsued or weak skills so a new build might be born that can counter the „better build”. Then when this so called new build becomes popular, players will come up with other stuff that counters it, and basicly if there’re enough variety, the meta will change on it’s own constantly.
Tldr: There’re still many really weak skills and traits that are needed to be brought up on par with „decent” skills. Don’t nerf skills that are slightly better than average: if you make unused skills useful, that brings more variety, more variety means maybe the „slightly better skill” won’t be better anymore, because it can be „overwhelmed” by an other build/combination of skills. You can polish the skills when they’re almost equally powerful later.
Ps.: Sorry for my long post and bad english.
Is this change only for WvW or for PvE too? I’m a PvE mesmer, tbh I think confusion is really underwhelming there, it’s not worth to build on that because most of the time it wears off before the mob would attack. Really poor choice to nerf an already UP condition, well even if they split it and it won’t affect PvE it’s still wouldn’t matter as it will remain useless in PvE. Anet should stop dumbing the game down, if new players can’t bring condi removals/spam 1 while under confusion, it’s really their problem. They might QQ, but eventually they’ll understand how it works and they’ll get better. If they make everything easier, those new players will never learn how things work, as all what they will see is spamming autoattack is the best way to play. Waiting for the day when arenanet removes our clones because it’s too “confusing” for new players…
And I really think instead of nerfing confusion they should tweak it. Why doesn’t it stacking duration instead? Let’s say confusion deals X damage for each ability used and the X dmg can be increased with more condition damage.
Personally I see the opposite, I think there are more Sunrise than Twilight. And while they’re really the most common legendary, they are not as common as some people think in general. It’s not like I see them everywhere, just occasionally 1-2 a day. People who are saying “Legendary GS are just too mainstream” are basicly just jealous, for some reason they don’t have problems with CoF armor which is 10000 times more common than Twilight or Sunrise.
As for which is better for me, I don’t really know. Sunrise is interesting because it has more color shades, but personally I don’t like those colors (at least some of them). Atm I’m going for Twilight coz I prefer the dark feel. I wouldn’t mind though if they tweaked it a little, like reducing the black color’s intensity a little bit and give some new color shades, like yellowish to represent the starry night. Or just make the red and bluish color a bit more intense.
This game has so much potential, I hope Anet will use this as their advantage in future patches/expansions.
I agree what most people say here. I don’t understand why barely any boss has some unique ability (for example something like Lyssa that you can’t look at her). Giving bosses their own boons/conditions will make them much more fun and maybe more challenging.
For example, what about a boss that gives you a condition that stacks up over time and deal damage every x sec (more stack, more dmg), and the only way to remove it is with dodging, but it doesn’t remove the condi completely just transfers it to an other group member. This might encourage to bring tanky/healer-like characters so they can “eat” up the damage dealt this way. I realize it’s not the best idea (as there have to be some limit so it wouldn’t turn into a dps race to kill the boss b4 the condi becomes too dangerous), and I came up with it in like 1 mins, but I know most of you would have some great ideas about how to make encounters more challenging & fun with unique mechanics.
My other concern is with the lack of skills. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of only having 10 skills out at time (actually more with weap swap/special abilities) , it could make people actually think what they want to bring to the next encounter (assuming it’s not just a “big healthpool – one shot” boss…).
What I really hate is the fix skills for weapons. They should be like utility skills, you have let’s say 10 skills for each weapon set and you could swap between them. I know balance is a very important thing, but personally I think even if they manage to get proper balance with the very few skills this game has, if they want to create new skills AFTER they balanced the existing ones, it would just destroy the balance anyway…
(edited by Gery.2718)
There are probably much more, but personally I want to see:
-some tweaks to confusion: the mobs are too stupid (or clever?), most of them has very long time between their attacks so this condition is wasted or doesn’t do enough to worth building on it.
-change back quickness to 100%, OR reduce the recharge time of Time Warp a bit to make up for the loss of it’s effectivity.
-some change about 100blades so I can go to dungeons with my warrior without being asked “go full zerker”. (yeah I can just go with an other group, but personally I think the skill is way to good in PvE anyway)
I got one from my first try, and my guildmate got one on the 5th try o.O I guess we are lucky and it’s sad to see someone didn’t get anything in 200 tries. :S
Hello everyone. I haven’t really been around in the past 1-1,5 week because of holidays so I don’t know what exatcly happened, and on top of that I rarely visit forums. I don’t know why, but I read this thread and I have to say I shouldn’t have to – both side is acting ridiculous.
1, Well first of all I don’t understand why people from my server accusing the other two that they’ve formed an alliance, and I’m sorry for their behaviour. It’s impossible for two different servers to cooporate, mainly because the majority of the players don’t visit any social site/forums. Even if they’re told to do so, many people would disagree and refuse the alliance. Sure, there are cases when a few number of friends (or maybe even spies) work together, but it barely changes anything on the scores. And it happens sometimes that both servers are attacking the third one, so it doesn’t mean they’re working together.
2, People from Piken should stop jumping to conclusions by things on forums. I don’t know about this “poll” or whatever, but -as I said earlier- most people don’t read these sites so even if you’ve been voted as the most friendly server, it doesn’t mean anything. I know it’s frustrating to read hating posts, but I played WvW for 5-6 hours today and didn’t see anyone hating on PS (except one person was claiming that you’ve formed an alliance, but pretty much everyone ignored him). So Gandarans don’t hate you, there might be some hate on forums, it’s just a few people, most of us just wanna have some fun
Personally I enjoyed being in WvW today, AR have some amazing numbers and they are also organized, it’s a real challenge to separate their forces, and while PS have smaller numbers they are very organized and I’m a bit jealous because of that. Imo Gandara still need more commanders (we got almost completely pushed out from EB when there were none) and we should be more organized if we want to reach & compete in tier 3.
Just my 2 cents :-)
MH pistol would be probably the best. Scepter feels like it lacks a lot, at least I couldn’t really find a build that needs scepter, the skills are just way too slow. And there are no other ranged main hand weapons. Also, dual pistols would make the class more like a duelist
I’m quite sad now… I really really wanted to participate in the final event, but I couldn’t because of real life problems. I know it’s my problem, but since the previous one time events didn’t give any rewards I thought it will be OK. And now this happened, many people got a lot of named exotics, some even got precursors, 20 slot bags, etc. I feel left out, and I think it’s very very unfair for a large amount of the playerbase. Probably many of you won’t care about me and think that I’m just a QQer. All I want to say is I hope future “one time events” won’t give disadvantage to those who can’t attend. Well maybe I won’t be here by then because I’m very disappointed right now and I don’t feel like login at all, but I’ll try to “recover” and decide to keep on playing.
