What class are you playing? I just made a hammer/longbow warrior last night. I gave as good as I got… But it was my first time playing the setup.
people rely too much on perma stealth, and it enrages other players. giving every class a chance to counter it is healthy for the game.
Almost. You see a skill like this hurts normal stealthers WAY more than perma stealth. In fact this won’t even affect perma builds hardly at all. So once again, ppl cry about perma stealth and anet nerfs EVERYTHING else. Great plan. I can’t wait till I get a skill to disable ele atunement swaps or necro ds. Hmm perhaps a skill to disable mesmers from summoning clones. No skill, one button counters are great!
Exactly.
lol… uhhh…
Ring of Greatness…
I look forward to what Anet has in store for the thieves. In every mmo I have ever played in the last 15+ years, I’ve played a stealther, a rogue-type class. I LOVE IT!!!! And in every one of those games, the rest of the community was always calling for nerfs.
Whatever happens, so be it…
I see. So the dp builds is op while everything else is fine. I can’t believe some people are condemning an entire profession based on 1 builds though. seems a bit close minded. But now, what’s the deal with dp? is there really absolutely no way to solve their nigh immortality?
Well 90+% of my fellow thieves use that spec. Thieves who don’t rely on perma stealth aren’t opd at all. They don’t need the crutch.
Stealth isn’t a crutch, it’s one of the two viable build types that Thieves have, and acting as though any Thief that plays a stealth build is somehow inferior is plain kittening stupid.
Exactly, Exactly, Exactly….
Also, runes of Lyssa if you use all six has an ability that removes all conditions and turns them into boons when you use your elite skill…. which of course you can do while stealthed, BV comes to mind

The title of this post irritates me… there’s no such thing as a “true” thief, there’s some good thieves, not so good thieves and the rest of us falling in the middle somewhere…
God forbid someone would exploit a class mechanic to win… not sure how long the OP has been gaming, but that’s just a fact in these games since the beginning… and it’s not just thieves, other classes exploit their mechanics, as well.
OP should get over himself.. don’t be a hater, sounds like he would enjoy a ‘nerf’ of stealth, so he should be happy… no need to kick anyone when they’re down, unless of course he’s a sadist.
Just saying..
I think giving hard counters to stealth is fine, but if you take that hard counter they should have to sacrifice equally useful mechanics. Negating stealth, a mechanic that thieves have based many of their builds around can be a complete game changer.
Also, with these hard counters to stealth, Anet should increase the durability of the thief class, imo.
I like the stealth mechanic and if I ran around with everyone negating stealth, it would be very disappointing. But, as many of you, I would adapt. And if not, I would just play another class.
Ok, I did miss it… And I am intrigued…. When I get home I’ll watch the video and give it a go… Thanks!
Sorry Tracker… was seeing things, apparently… I need to go back to the drawing board, crit/survivability has very little, if any, hope…
@Sube That makes sense.. unfortunate, but logical… thanks.
@Tracker… definitely do not want to deal with spirits any more, to much micro management, using the pet to its fullest is more interesting to me… thanks
@Chopps This looks doable, not stun breaks could hurt, but I’ll give it go…
Thanks for all the input, it’s very helpful, if a bit disappointing.
Yeah… this didn’t work out so much… disappointing. Back to the drawing board.
Thanks guys for the feed back… the low vitality on Valkyrie Amulet/Jewel may make me more susceptible to condition builds… however I like the 33% regen … I tweaked the build again incorporating the trait point spread….
**EDIT: If it wasn’t clear, this build is focused on PvP…. eventually I’ll use a form of it in WvW….

Yea, I expect there to be kinks… I was going for a fully mobile build, so mobile I wont be able to stay on the point, apparently.
Would LB and GS be more formidable in (attempting) to take a point… or is GS too defensive?
Would more Toughness be better than vitality…
I change pets constantly, that’s never static…
I tweaked the build a bit… went rune of the earth all the way down, increases duration of protection on dodge roll, adds toughness…
Went with Soldiers Amulet/Knight’s Jewel, increase in toughness along with vitality… would Valkyrie’s healing power be a better help with my healing ticks from Troll U, than having Vitality?
Reworked my trait spread… gives a bit better regen…
Anyway, reworked build below… It’s seems a bit thin, but I’m interested to see what it will be like in sPvP…
I’ve gone back 5 or 6 pages looking for a Ranger build that focuses on crits and survivability… and they are scarce, virtually non existent. I understand, kind of, that the last patch hobbled us and the focus, err ‘meta’ build, became spirits.
I currently use a spirit build in sPvP and it definitely gives tank-like results. But seriously, I hate managing those spirits, I’m not a spirit master, beastmaster, sure. However, it’s not what I want my ranger to be.
So I came up with the following build, a jack of all trades, master none. My goal was to get something that floated like a butterfly, and stung like a bee, if you will.
I’m going to try it out. In theory it seems decent. But let me be honest, this post is really just a fishing expedition to see if any one else out there is having success with something similar.
This would be for sPvP only as I level up.
Thanks… I’ll try some of these out when I get home…
Thanks for the suggestions… I’ll try them out.
So I was in sPVP getting my a** handed to me time and again by these two necros, one’s name was Mortis… Anyway, they would keep Fearing me, which sent me fleeing and then my skill timer would reset, all the while my health would quickly go south… at times they would use epidemic, or go into their ghost form with additional hps, and come out with more then they had going in…
Anyway, you get the idea… Nothing I did could stop them continually killing me. I don’t want to just have a build made to combat one class, I also want to give my guy the ability to have a chance against any class.
I figured a BM-focused DD build would give me a better chance with more condition removal, but I couldn’t find anything within the first 3 or so pages. I wanted something after the last patch so I didn’t go too far back..
In short… Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help… and yes, I do suffer a bit from the L2P disease…
Too many chicken littles… I’ll continue to play my d/p… and prolly be just as good, better the longer I play. Just an adjustment here and there….
I like the jumping puzzles, there should be really hard ones and really ez ones throughout the lands…
Lame answers… there are builds on this board, there are a lot of viable options, just have to find one and tailor it to what you prefer playing… PVE, sPVP, WVWVW
