Yeah, this is ridiculous. Talk about Anet shooting themselves in the foot: ‘We have this lovely and largely meaningless system of horizontal progression (which is our whole philosophy, yay!), and we’re going to cap it so those players won’t be interested in playing anymore!’ Is there any logical rationale to making this change?

Oh, and to those saying that they are AP hunters who will feel less stressed once they hit the cap… deal with your own life. ANet isn’t your mother, you shouldn’t be relying on them to control your game time.

I’m all for a crafted speed boost that you can use on your mesmer.

Crafted speed boost has to have a short duration. Crafted portals don’t get you very far and are not really good for much beyond jumping puzzles so the crafted speed boost has to be just as useless.

Crafted speed boost needs to cost the same amout as a crafted portal. Make sure there are rare ingredients to keep the production cost high.

Crafted speed boost cannot be used in WvW just like the crafted portal.

I don’t think you need a trait, skill, or weapon modification just because crafted portals are introduced. If everyone got portal as a skill, I’d say differently then.

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.

For those that might find fault with me saying this answer me this first. Why should I play the temporary content?

Why go on holiday? You’ll wind up back home anyway. Why get that cut of steak you really like? It’ll be eaten in minutes. Why watch the big game? One of the teams will win and suddenly everyone’s talking about next year. Why go see the travelling circus? They’ll just pack up and go elsewhere.

I understand and partially agree with the desire for more permanency (yes that’s right, this post is not arguing against having more permanent content) but the enjoyment you had with updates doesn’t get erased when the content is removed. That evening where you had a good time exploring the new area still happened. It improved the quality of your day and, as a result, ever so slightly improved the overall quality of your life which after all is the purpose of doing anything other than eating, sleeping and reproducing.

If you don’t actually enjoy doing the content added in the living story then there’s your answer. That said, once you log out for the last time all the work and progress you made becomes moot, so why not enjoy the ride?

Let me enthrall ye denizens of Tyria with a story most bold, of courage, experience and adventure of finding oneself i had experienced a whole 5 minutes ago.

I was at a bank, storing some gold for my alt. When suddenly i got 10 ac points.
GASP i exclamed, “dare i venture forth down this road of peril?”

With a shaking heart i placed 100g in the bank. With a glorious shower of power and glory of my deeds Balthazar granted me another 10 points.
“Tis’ a day for glorious deeds!” i exclaimed across the mapchat, filled with the confidence of a thousand brave men.

I was then dared by a jelaous sage to test faith once more.
“Dare ye put in 200g in thine bank mortal?” he said with a grin so foul.
I knew this was a test from the gods, and i knew i had to accept.

With sweat pouring from my forehead like the waterfalls of the Timberline Falls i paused before doing the deed.
As i did my beard grew tenfold. My arms once minute norn ones now resembled trees in girth. I smiled at the sage as i took another 10 points from the gods, rightfully making me the hero amongst heroes of Tyira.

From that day all of Tyira would know my name, the Golden Retriver and i would be bathed in all the praise of this realm.
Unlike that plebeian sage who only did dailies.

TLDR: I got 30 pts from placing gold in the bank 3 times, THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST!

I think me and my guild (and ofc similar experienced people) fending off 2v1, 3v1 or even more odds in WvW against competent players time and time again is more of a skillful achievement then you killing GASP a thousand brainless NPCs.

Get your head out of your kitten. Your NPC farming for achivements is no more epic than a dude that logs in every day and does a daily.
Hence this elitist bullkitten is pointless.

Umm … we’re not discussing elitism here, but whether or not we think dailies should count towards the total … for reasons other than elitism.

And your comment here reeks of elitism itself, good sir. If you don’t have something to contribute, then to troll elsewhere. Thank you.

What if they made the most epic items up near the 10k AP mark anyway, people who have just done dailys for a year now would only have between 1800-3600 from dailys.

Like me i do dailys everyday and i only sit at like 2600 AP something low like that, if the new system said i needed 8k to unlock something i wanted i wouldn’t want to do dailys for the next 2 years to unlock it xD, i would still go and experience more of the game, daily AP is not enough, and that’s fine with me i will be happy doing achievements to unlock items, so i don’t really see that as being the problem either. :P ?

Please fix (or even just remove) this absolutely asinine achievement. You could easily play a thousand games and never get this as it only requires one other competent player to make it nearly impossible.

Would inspect even make it any worse?

There are already players with specific requirements and gear-check. Current game already supports that kind of behavior. With inspect they could pre-kick more effectively meaning some people wouldn’t get kicked mid-run.

Then there are players who want good players but can’t be bothered with gear-checks. If stuff doesn’t go smoothly people will get kicked mid-run. Inspect would allow seeing these problems earlier (it’s not really rocket science).

Then there are players who want some decent players but don’t care that much. They may have to kick people who aren’t just pulling their weight. Again inspect would allow figuring these problems earlier.

Then there are people who don’t care at all and nothing would change.

Yes, more people would get kicked pre-run. But also less people would get kicked mid-run saving lots of frustration.
Would it be so bad if you could easily figure out people you want to play with?

If that particular gear is destroying diversity – then yes, that’s what I said. Except for the warrior part.

When there is an optimal gear setup there will be no diversity among people who know how to play and want to extract the maximum of their class’ potential. There will always be an optimal gear setup.

See where I’m going here? Your attempts to ‘diversify’ gear are futile.

.

I agree, diversification of gear works great in concept but not in practice – optimal gearing for content is always been the way forward and once a basis has been estabilished anything less is always considered futile.

the inspect feature should be implimented, its a staple of mmorpgs regardless of the game clasification/audience, it seems many of those staples aren’t present in GW2.

Inspection is actually used in the game today, though at higher level fractal PUGS, you’re always asked to link your AR gear to verify your qualification, seeing chat spammed with this is a pain and on some occassions i see some players kicked for the stats theyve chosen in the AR gear they’ve linked if they can’t adequately explained their reasons for those choices.

This will always be an inherent problem, and the more difficult- team based content that is added, the more apparent this type of thing becomes- mainly because players do not want to waste their time or carry others regardless of their reasons.

Nice, so you are one of those elitist that only thinks for himself and a quick run.

A quick and smooth run rewards the whole party. A bizzare mix of random awkward stats on your masterwork/fine gear, or lack of certain utilities (the lone guardian without reflections in grawl fractal at 40+) does only harm. And MF in its current form is the ultimate act of selfishness.

I tend to give everyone a chance. Instead of insta kick because they don’t fit my requirements.

Kudos for not kicking 5-signet warriors or 1500 longbow/bear rangers.

I would rather take that 10 min run over the 7 min one.

When doing a daily run I don’t bother as well. But when I need some gold and have to spend 1-2 hours then 10 min runs aren’t acceptable.

Relaxed and fun people to be around is one hell of alot more fun than elitist pricks.

For normal gampelay: yes. For CoF farming – no. When farming I usually chat on TS with friends as most players care only about gold when farming which isn’t a bad thing.

How often is it you see a lfg…that isn’t full…that takes all classes/professions/gear?

In map chat pretty much all the time.

Besides, my 79 ranger in 75 carrion greens no acc, rings, or backbrace preformed better survival wise…than 2 zerk wars that were in the party at the time. Gear doesn’t mean kitten.

And a ranger using rare sword/warhorn and GS that can stay alive will outperform archer ranger every time. Pity rangers use bows and then cry that they have no DPS. Also in zerk party when you kill boss in 10-30 seconds you don’t have to worry about survival since mobs die too fast to actually kill anyone.

Zerk kitten is overrated.

Long story short. Skill > Gear. End of it.

Show me one post that says otherwise. With same skill a player with better gear will always outperform the player with worse gear. And the problem is that you can’t measure skill before going in but you can check gear and amount of achievement points. And when I go in with full exo/ascended zerk party and everyone above 6k achi points it always ends in a lot of great runs, so forgive me but I’ll stick to gear checks.

Crabtactular Achievement Fix?

Lokheit.7943

wth crabtacular has to do with rng?

I think rng (random number generation) isn’t esactly what the OP meant but luck based/random chance instead (to be fair rng is used too many times for random around forums).

Take a look on the other Crabtaccular thread and read all players arguments about how this is based on random dumb luck. It’s an achievement that isn’t related to your skill. You need your opponents to be dumb enough to all die at the same time and there are a lot of factors involved, including different strategies (someone might be running in circles looking for items instead of following the mass of players for example), or that someone isn’t afk, or even intentionally trying to make you fail in your achievement (yep, there are players mean enough for that).

If anything all those players dying together should get an achievement for that instead because it was based on their skill (or lack of it or team coordination to help another player get it), not on the skill of the player getting the achievement. Sure, there are some strategies that might help with it, but all of them require that most of your opponents don’t know how to dodge/rush and the ones that know, all of them at the same time have wasted their rush and their stamina and weren’t looking for items around the map.

I was lucky enough to literally find a 1 vs 1 situation and that’s how I got it. It was all luck, I was trying hard to get it and suddenly I found a 1 vs 1 fight (and even then I needed some time to get him killed while I held the crab as the big karkas appear after some minutes and the small ones go for the grabber at first).

Before that I tried to organize a group so we all could help each other but not all of them were listening, and even with some other players contributing for it none of us could get it because there are too many factors.

No more than everyone standing around in city in their underwear, which has been an option since the beginning.

Yeah but no one does that. If you pay 800 gems, you want to show that off, like happened with all the previous pieces of cash shop skins, especially if it’s a skimpy bikini, which would probably become the most popular of them all (also you don’t have to manually remove 6 pieces of armor every time).
That wasn’t very good argument.

Nothing is stopping anybody from equipping nothing for their town clothes. Instant underwear swap if you chose to do so.

But anyways who cares if people run around in a bikini while out of combat. This game needs to lighten up.

On Lottery (RNG) Boxes

IndigoSundown.5419

Do people get all bothered about card packs? That’s what RNG boxes are. RNG boxes are not slot machines, Texas-hold-‘em tables, lotteries or raffles. They’re kittening baseball/M:tG cards.

If you don’t like RNG boxes (as I don’t), then don’t buy them (as I won’t). Posts like these will not change the minds of the monetization crew at ANet. More importantly, it won’t change the minds of the people buying the RNG boxes — and they’re why these things keep showing up.

And as far as people who oppose certain positions, you’re over-analyzing. Many posters post in opposition for one simple reason. It’s ingrained in the human ego to want to think that we’re right, and nothing makes people feel more right than pointing out where others are wrong. This is nothing new, and the whole “Whatever happened to gamers looking out for gamers?” is remarkably disingenuous for suggesting that it was ever different. There are, of course, exceptions to everything, but as a general trend, no. Now, I’m not condoning the behavior, but the pseudo psycho-analysis is wrong.

For all of you that want to buy all these skins direct consider this scenario.. They are all on the gem store buy direct. You can’t wait to get your elite new skin. You buy gems with money or (gold that you can earn in game at no cost other than time) get your skin and put it on. You head to LA and look around, everyone is wearing the same skin you have. Suddenly it doesn’t seem so special does it?

Yeah the TB quote wasn’t about Guild Wars 2 fans…it was against fan boys in general.

Would it surprise you though? I’m pretty sure I remember him being blown away by the attacks of the GW2 community for not praising the game 100% in his youtube videos. I’ve never seen him have to address a specific fanbase in that manner.

It wouldn’t surprise me, but the fan base at this time is quite different than it was at launch or before launch. And he made his comments about Guild Wars 2 fans who were reacting to what Jessie said, not him. And what Jessie said, at that time, was uniformed.

That said, the game is old enough where the rose-colored glasses are off. I’ve been called a white knight and a fan boy, but I still posted negative stuff about RNG and I’ve agreed with quite a few posts that have negative things in them. I’ve agreed we need an LFG tool, I’ve agreed we need more viable builds for many professions, I’ve agreed with a number of negative points.

The fact is, I object most to specific unverifiable claims, or people who want everything NOW. That’s are my pet peeves and I respond to them. But those who call me a fan boy, oddly, NEVER mention the times I say I agree with something negative said about Anet.

Seems suspiciously imbalanced to me.

Just out of curiosity what would you recommend to players that end up in PuGs that exploit? It’s considerably more confusing when you’ve progressed to a point and the 4/5 want to exploit and your options become leave and lose progress or continue and exploit. Chances are they will not report you for going along, but will report you for leaving.
