A note on these threads: you’ll get only a very small set of input that may not properly represent the entire playerbase and what is best for it. So a select, single thread like this is most likely a bad method of getting feedback for potential changes. That, and the randomness factor when considering opinions from such a small group of people.

What are the best infusions/upgrades?

Hi. So ironically I grinded out Twilight but still have limited knowledge of infusions and upgrade slots. Since I’m only ever going to make one legendary I want to be sure I put the best ones I can on the sword.

The only infusions I found on the GW2 wiki had 5 power/5 agony, which I found hard to believe that that was the best around.

I chose berserker stats for the base sword and am wondering where I can get the best 2 offensive infusions and 1 upgrade slot for power/prec/ferocity.

Goliath.7546

Hi. So once I’ve grinded out the gold to get the components for the gifts of fortune and stuff, do I just shove them in the forge or do I need to get some sort of recipe and have it in my inventory or consume it or something?

The last thing I want to do is flush 250 of each material into the mystic toilet and get a rare berserker horn back.

And you have a 100% chance to get the gift/legendary for which you input the materials, right?

Making Clovers first helps you will get some T6 along the way.

Yes, I did the clover part. Very small result, usually just 25 of each.

Hi. For the legendary weapons you need a lot of ingredients (usually 250 for example for the gift of fortune). I was wondering if the best way to get these is just to farm gold until you can buy them or some other method I’m not aware of.

Thanks

I wouldn’t mind if it took long to level if the entire game wasn’t saved for level 80…

Getting to 80 just seems like a pre-game thing.

By the way what witchcraft are you guys using to get fast tomes? Or how long do you play PvP? On average how many minutes of PvP before you get a tome?

The ways to level are the following:
-character switch at the end of dungeons
-heart quests/exploration
-pvp knowledge tomes
-dungeons (story mode)
-WvW

The issue is that heart quests get boring the third time through, and are very slow levelling. Events are inconsistent so you can’t really rely on them for levelling. PvP tomes are not frequent enough. In games like Rift you play a few or maybe more PvP games and it’s enough XP to level up.

Dungeons don’t become available until level 30, but 1-30 is the slowest and most boring of all. Even at level 30, AC story mode gets very old the 10th time through on one character.

WvW is inconsistent. If you find a big zerg of people it’s reasonable levelling, but often it’s a lot of getting zerged ON. Even in a good group it’s very slow.

My solution: the game is old now, and lots of the main part of the game starts at level 80. So just make levelling by heart quests and PvP tomes faster. Have dungeons give good XP no matter how many times you play them (Story mode only). And finally, a risky one and probably controversial: allow up-levelling for dungeons story mode. As in make it viable to use dungeons and levelling from the start without having to grind heart quests. In Rift, you can make a character, get to lev 10 fast, then basically just play PvP until the highest level if you wanted to. You can PvP until a high enough level to do dungeons and then alternate between the two. You never have to run around doing boring quests.

It’s just really tedious to get a character to where the game actually starts lev 80)

^^Give proof and reasoning, like the productive among us have done, and I’ll take your opinion seriously.

Same for jdawgie. It’s like writing a math exam, you can’t just plop down an answer, give a proof and reasoning. For example, I can disprove your statements because I created a thief, necromancer and ranger character for the sole purpose of seeing if I just need to learn the ways of the PvP. Nope. It was easy mopping the floor with warriors/guardians.

Downed mode: currently it’s usually much more effective to revive a downed teammate even if there are enemies nearby because reviving is so fast. This is another problem that the downed mode raises. If a player downs someone, that person’s teammate should have to kill the player first before reviving becomes viable. Currently since it’s so easy to revive there is no tactic.

Based on a lot of the comments posted here and other threads (when people get particularly upset, LoL), it’s clear that there’s a lot of “fanboyism” going into the posts. I can guarantee that had these game mechanics been in any other game they would have been laughed at. So try to pull away from bias and use reasoning instead. When you do this, you’ll find it very hard to tell me that it should be more beneficial to revive a downed teammate in the presence of an enemy than to take out that enemy first and then revive the teammate. And that this is fair for the person who downed the first player and is now having to contend with 2 enemies (wow, such tactics).

They still shout words but none of the subtle sounds when they die etc.

It might be good to have a scoreboard where it shows each player’s contribution. A few things such as damage, heals, conditions removed, revives, boons applied, traps disabled etc. could be showed.

Just a good way to measure one’s own progress and something to put things into perspective.

Or to put down, berate and harass slackers.

I’ve played other MMO’s where you literally get stunned locked 10 seconds at a time…In Every match…rookies. This game is a breath of fresh air in comparison.
Then again what do I know. I roll a Guardian and usually have no issues with rangers, thieves and mesmers.

We shouldn’t use bad games as justification for this game being flawed. That’s like murdering someone and saying, “Well, I know people who have kitten d (rolls eyes, supposed to say a word meaning forcefully apply intercourse) AND murdered people, so it’s okay.”

The better you get, the more balanced all of this will seem, if you play more you’ll understand how to deal with these situations more. Simply dodging, you’ll avoid a lot of grief before it happens.

No amount of skill can deal with imbalance. It’s simply not possible to beat a mesmer unless you have a teammate or you beat them with a very large pool of health left. I always kill the mesmers, but they have a too short recharge on teleporting away in downed mode. Coupled with too long take-down time it simply isn’t possible to kill a mesmer unless you have a teammate or you beat them with tons of health to spare (in which case the mesmer is likely just incompetent).

Emphasis on the fact that this isn’t simply from the perspective of a madcusbad warrior, I made a thief, a mesmer, and a necromancer character and verified how easy they were in PvP.

If we win the game, what happens? And if we lose?

………….

The music at the end of the game is different is about all. But if during that process we have no fun then what happens? We wasted our time is what. By the way, I don’t think saying that “since all the classes are broken, they are balanced” really is a good approach.

The fact is that the BS mechanics still exist, and rather than trying to put up with them and say “Weeeell, the real point is to capture flags so let’s ignore that all combat is horrendously balanced” we should try to fix the issues. Then we can have a fun, team based game…WITH half-way decent engagements.

Because at best 2 ranger are only bring two Stuns each, and If you expect to win a 3 v 1 just because you are warrior then I think that mode is not for you.

? I didn’t say I want to win 3v1’s…I just want the kill that I earned. And it’s impossible to finish people with rangers spamming stuns.

I don’t see why this issue isn’t recognized by devs. PvP is completely broken and I have strong evidence.

I join a match, look at the scoreboard, and this is what I see: 1 warrior (me), 7 rangers, a few engis. This is not an isolated case. If PvP were even near balanced we would see other classes being touched.

I fight a necromancer, get him down to almost no health, and 2 rangers show up. You can imagine how that went. I would’ve been easy to finish of the necromancer if I had had even ONE second without being stunned by the stupidly excessive amount of stun abilities. My couple of stunbreak abilities are obviously not enough.

I created a necromancer character, and without even a 4 or 5 slot skill and just randomly, hastily chosen PvP build (I know hardly anything about necromancer) I was finding FAR more and easier success in PvP in my first couple of games.

It’s broken. Thief and Mesmer need overall nerfs, ranger and engi need certain builds nerfed, and the entire game needs fewer stuns.

I would think that’s a good point to make if downed states weren’t so horribly unbalanced…

By the way complete stuns are a horrible game mechanic in any style of game. GW2 is the worst of all MMO’s I’ve ever played in this sense. Stop freezing my freakin screen Anet. Please. When I spend 30% of my play time with my character immobilized there is a very big issue with your game.

There are one or two stun break abilities available but considering one in 5 abilities is somewhat stun related this game is a disastrous freezefest.

Another reason why downed needs to go: it’s far more beneficial to revive a downed teammate than to try to kill whoever killed him because reviving is stupidly fast.

I would agree with most of the condition damage complaints, but swords should keep them. They’re terribad otherwise. Necros should lose them considering how OP their other stun-type abilities are.

Rangers: lol I don’t even…

Mesmer: make clones different very slightly from the original player.

Thief: don’t make them invulnerable when using skills. I play a thief in PvP and just spam 2-3-4 and I’m invulnerable half the time as my character does backflips in the air.

Here is a prime example of why the downed state is unbalanced:

My Warrior character vs a Ranger.

We fight. I kill. I he goes into a downed state, and since I had low health and it takes a decade to finish players, he downs me in the downed state. My options: knock an already knocked down player down, throw rocks, or come back to life for a few seconds.

His options: too much.

What happens: we throw rocks at each other until I come back to life, and this since it takes a decade to finish enemies off, he can stun me (while in a downed state…what was ANet smoking?) at which point now he can come back to life. Then my character dies.

I won the fight, but his downed state abilities were far better.

Traversing Tyria is a pain (slow).

The game has so much complex stuff technologically, I don’t see why mounts aren’t in the game. I’m guessing there’s some concern balance-wise in terms of combat? Even if there isn’t I would recommend they be out-of-combat only.

But outside of combat, there should be mounts. Tyria is so cool to explore but it gets really really boring running around at a snail’s pace.

If you aren’t going to post meaningful comments with reasoning behind your statements, leave. I don’t care for your opinion and whether you think it’s a L2P issue unless you provide good reasoning to back it up.

It’s not a L2P issue. I admit when I simply need to get more skilled, such as when I first started playing Counter Strike. Yes, it’s a FPS, but it’s a PvP game with online interactions and combat. General PvP flaws is mainly what I’m talking about here. In CS, it was clear that some people are just really skilled at nailing headshots and moving tactically and what not. In this game, the people that succeed are not skilled, they just know how to abuse the most over-powered and broken mesmer/thief moves. I played a thief char in PvP and found it very easy to use.

About the mesmers just taking getting used to: if they’re balanced why are 90% of players I see mes/thief/necro? There’s the odd rebel engi/elementalist. And once in a blue moon I’ll see some poor soul using warrior (usually getting trolled by a mesmer).

Goliath.7546

About stealth/mesmers: it’s not hard. I played a rogue. LoL I don’t call something OP until I actually use it, and having used it I concluded that it was nonsense and far easier and more beneficial to use in PvP than any other class will ever be.

There are far more stuns than stun breaks.

About the downed state: there are too many things that should not be in the game that are possible in the downed state. Even if the downed state should stay (it should not) it shouldn’t be possible to teleport away or come back to life. That is just straight up robbing the person who killed the player.

Why? It brings an element of randomness and takes away an element of skill. If during this process even one other enemy shows up, that player that downed the other player first has no chance to survive. The person he downed will come back to life, and it will be a 2v1. If he tries to finish off the player, the other enemy will kill him while trying to go through the stupidly long finishing move which for some reason takes longer than it does to charge up an ability to knock someone over while downed.

Again, bigger problem is that this gets worse when facing multiple enemies. Stacking is bad enough in MMO games’ PvP, it’s worst I’ve found in GW2. In GW2 a 2v1 situation is impossible if the other two are halfway decent (if you’re a thief or mesmer and the other two are warriors then it’s easy, of course).

Goliath.7546

This game has the single worst multiplayer component of any game I have ever played. My analysis is based on general PvP principles which apply to MMO’s and FPS games etc. so it’s not specifics I’m getting into but rather general ideas.

1 – Downed mode. When a player kills another player, give them the freaking kill. The fight is over, stop dragging it on beyond necessary. X player killed Y, and that’s that. Not X player kills Y and then Y teleports a mile away and comes back to life only to have 10 more friends and all stack on player X. There’s no reason to have downed mode in the game.

2 – If I had a dollar for every stun ability in this game…I spend more time stunned than I do in control of my body. It’s extremely aggravating to have my character immobile for half my play session. Make combat smoother and more mobile, not based on annoying stun-locks.

3 – Mesmers/Rogues – It’s not hard to play this class in PvP. Spam abilities that make you invulnerable and teleport you around the enemy in sporadic and unpredictable ways. There is NO way for any other class to deal with these two classes and they’re hands down the only class worth playing in PvP if you want to have any fun.

4 – It just sucks. In general when I play a PvP game, MMO or FPS, I like there to be a skill component to the game. There is some skill element in GW2 but it doesn’t get to shine due to all the garbage. MMO’s in general are all about getting into groups and stacking on some poor individual. In GW2, this problem is worse because of the “downed” system. Even if some extremely skilled person manages to kill one of the many people ganging up on him, that person will soon come back to life. No credit is given for downing someone.

In addition, it’s far too easy to escape. I like that there’s a system that slows people down in combat, but there are too many ways to become invisible or teleport around and kitten out of a fight. If someone wants to, they can indefinitely pop moves to evade someone and keep healing and the fight doesn’t end until one player gets help from allies.

These features make the PvP feel really annoying and cheap, as I’m being robbed every third of the time I’m about to get a kill. Or when I do these moves, I have a little grin on my face (that shouldn’t be there) know that the other player is wanting to throw his keyboard at the wall.

It’s bad. Which is surprising since the rest of the game is so innovative and well made.
