I heard wvw thieves are so much better than tpvp thieves. The very little I’ve wvw’d maybe I’ve only come across bad thieves shrugs. I’m curious about other people’s thoughts and opinions on this subject. Are there amazing wvw thieves, if so who are they? I would love to test them out. If you are one of them hit me up..

I can play any build needed, all I’ve played is thief. I’m extremely good at what I do and know what my role is in matches. I’m looking for a team that either is already competitive or looking to get competitive. I’m able to play at anytime in the day for as long as needed and want to play with very active players. I have a mic and I’m vocal. Not looking for a team of kitten’s. I play to have fun, improve, and win. I have no problem talking about what went wrong in a match. In this thread, you are telling Xeph again one of the most knowledgeable players that he doesn’t know how thief actually works.
I show you S/P thief with 400 QPs ( rank 20 before he quit ) and you tell me i’m talking bs and thief is useless without oneshot.
Shadow refuge, steal with boon stealing and vigor sharing , the best mobility in game, caltrops ( not the trait, the utility ) , blinding powder , venom share, crowd control are just useless stuff that only noobs take. But no, no and no – we NEED to feel like gods with our big big numbers while yelling in voice chat : “LOL what a noob, i just oneshotted that guy.”

There are only 2 cases I feel my team is at disadvantage using a Pistol/Dagger thief:
1) When their team has one more ele then we do ( but that’s another story)
2) When their team has a very good backstab thief ( ex: Kirei, Lowell, Jexster and a few others )

The only thing making other specs for thieves feel useless is the kitten backstab build.

This game would feel so much better if bunkering and burst was toned down but people wouldn’t feel as good when they oneshot a guy and the opponent team crumbles due to number advantage, wouldn’t we?

I AM IN FAVOR OF REDUCING THE BURST, not only for thieves, but for other classes overall.

I’m just pointing out weaknesses of other thief builds, and the reason why they’re suboptimal to other classes builds.

1. S/P burst deals less damage than a backstab build, and is more easily countered by retaliation, protection and armor in general.

Moreover PW damage was nerfed by 15 % ( with 2x crit multiplier, it’s a 30% overall damage reduction if every attack crits), explaining one of the reason why your “friend” quit the game ( S/P builds became heavily subpar after the nerf).

This is a fact, stop arguing against it.

2. P/D and thief condition builds are 1vsX builds, more suited for WvWvW than tPvP, due to lack of condition spreadt anddue to being countered more easily by condition removal.

Even more since you can’t contest points while stealthed, and those builds require heavy stealth uptime in order to sustain their damage.

Basically, if you want a condi build, you would be ten times better off with a trap ranger or a condi necro, classes that also have more AoE capabilities than a thief would ever dream of in the current state of balance.

This is a fact, stop arguing against it.

3. Boon sharing is very weak for a thief, basically something like vigor-fury-swiftness every 35-40 SECS AT BEST. Any ele would be capable to do it better than a thief, without losing anything in the damage department.

4. Control thieves ( S/D) seriously lack in the damage department, have no burst and were nerfed into oblivion.
Nothing than a mesmer wouldn’t do ten times better, while having more mobility, more burst and more support ( illusion of life, portal, time warp).

Same for an ele.

Lol even engies are better at control than a S/D thief currently, and engies are nearly useless and not wanted in tPvP.

This is a fact, stop arguing against it .

And lol, what is the fuss for a rank 20 ? i’m rank 36, i’ve been playing this game from its beta testing. Does it make me better for a judgement ?

@goob I get where your coming from, and no I would not want to turn down 1 player that plays 1 class really well. But when you have a guild of nothing but theifs that really hurts a teams chances, hence some flexibility is good. Yes you can learn a lot by playing against a class but you can also learn something if you play it a bit as well.

Anyhow goob I know your a solid player but I think we will run our guilds recruitment as we see fit. I am sure we will make your twitch stream against you at some point in time, hopefully we dont get crushed and its a good fight.

Im not interested in joining but I dont think a person has to know how to play 2 or 3 different classes to be viable to join a spvp guild. I am almost rank 40 all on thief. Knowing your class is extremely important. You learn about other classes just by vsing them.

Even in GW1 you get 0 fame unless you win..and unless you’d consistently win you would have not reached r9+..not even in 10 years time, because the fame prize was progressive as in GW2 QP system, so to reach r9+ you needed to “farm” much much fame

1. It is not about nerfing YOU (such an egocentric guy, you are just off the charts), it is about nerfing the class. The fact that Goob easily beat you 1v1 does not carry any information about need for nerfing/buffing mesmers vs thief. For all we know Goob could be several skill levels above you as to compensate with his skill differential relative to you for any class balancing issues.

2. When someone beats you in a duels, you have no business telling him to L2P. So stop telling Goobs to L2P (and in general, stop telling ppl to L2P you are just not in position to do so (see point 3)).

3. I do not even need to duel you and your buddies to see where you are. You lose easily to Goobs, you recommend me to ask Cruuk for advice (both of them are good thieves), and you practice with Caed (who is a joke) (yes I fought all three of them). I can pretty much see where you are skill wise from those data points. I can just say that you are nowhere close to being one of the top players in the game. It is one thing to be a decent player and know you are decent and nothing more. It is another to be decent, but be delusional that you are top player. And then it is third to be mediocre, be delusional that you are a top player, and then go brag on forums about being a top player. That is just embarrassing.

im working heavy with team 6 atm no other team has needed any help they pretty much know what to do. when we play them in paids then they ask me for advice and i give it. when custom servers next month are up we will be scrimming all the time all 6 teams (more if we find great team leaders) so dont tell me i dont put effort into my off teams when you are very confused. i hope you make it past round 1 so you can see how good they are.

The first time I popped my elite because how Sata always says “#1 mesmer NA/EU” I thought I was going to have some crazy battle. I was wrong, 30 seconds in Sata dropped and I took the point for about 10 seconds before 2 members of his team came to reclaim it. After I res’d I went back to put more pressure because at that time I felt as if you weren’t anything special. I didn’t pop my elite this time not because it was down. Didn’t think I’d needed it to beat you. We vs’d again I stomped you with most of my health remaining and got the point for maybe 15 seconds before back up (great roamers on his team). The last 2 matches you won because help came before we could finish.

I don’t care if no one believes me and you say it’s lies, I know you remember and please remember that well. I’m not saying I’m a better player than you and trying to get attention. I’ll even say it out front, Sata is a better team player(well I’m assuming because he’s team does so well in paids)

Maybe you dueling Caed isn’t the best choice for 1v1’n a thief. Caed has the same ego as you. People with that attitude will never get any better because they already think they are superior to everyone else. From what I seen you still need to L2P.

You setting the meta, stfu. Anet setup the meta and will always be the one controlling it. As good players we find the best comp/strats that works. We aren’t setting the meta though. We just follow the path Anet left out for us.

Which I did, the kid was like “OMG, Goobs” so we had the team together. This kid leading this group had to be 12 years old and was horrible. I won’t mention his name. The group fell apart of course but I gained a friend from the group so that was a plus. You didn’t even try to put a group together, I’m guessing the other groups failed the same way. Lasting a whole 2-4 hours. Sata’s your attempts to make groups just seem like a show to me. You like the spot light on you and everything you do is to keep that attention on you.

My main is thief… not because its OP or whatever you think. At launch it’s the class I thought looked interesting. I usually play ranged in any mmo I play but thought I’d switch it up this time. I always stick to whatever class I started no matter how underpowered or overpowered they are.

As a thief we don’t have any choice but to go for one extreme or the other(pure burst or pure condi) otherwise we aren’t viable. You can run a d/p, which is more of a distraction build but that’s about it. If there were other builds with a higher skill cap that you actually benefit from I’d be playing it but right now we have nothing. No matter what build you go or how good you are you just can’t get any respect as a thief. It’s not because of the players it’s just the way Anet set up the thief class. Honestly, I don’t think they will change it much. It’s always going to be one of the most annoying classes.

Sounds crazy but no matter how good you are as a thief you just don’t get respect.

i had the number one pvp team on SWTOR and this is what happened we win all the time 99% win rate then ranked comes out cause ppl was crying they want ranked (but noone was able to practice with 8 ppl for ranked) then we won 90% of ranked every team quit but 3 so it got boreing and we quit for GW2

if ppl dont have more time to practice ladder wont help infact its going to make less teams imo. and everyone that disagrees with me is wrong.

Honestly level your character to 80 first before going into spvp. It’ll make it easier for you since you’ll know what each skill does and how it works k. The beat down your going to get in the mists won’t be half as bad if you do it that way.

I’m playing d/p with sb in offset. Bunkers are pretty much a joke I’ve found a few that it takes more than a minute to kill. Stopping the heals will help a great deal. Daze does wonders, and you don’t need to be a pure burst or pure conditions build to beat bunkers quickly(less than a minute).

I disagree with this. As a glass cannon, your survival is entirely in the other players hands. If they dodge well twice, you’re boned. You will die to autoattacks and incidental aoe. Nothing you can do except try to reset. Playing glass cannon well is almost entirely about staying the hell out of the way until someone has blown his defensive cooldowns and/or is out of position, then exploding him. If anyone wastes their dodge on autoattacks, they’re dead. Sure in a 1v1 or poorly coordinated environment it’s simply build wars, but in team fights vs good players, your endurance bar and other defensive cooldowns are your LIFE.

Oh by the way Anet, if you want to be successful at something communication helps as does reaction time. Right now your reaction time is to slow and your going to get killed by that 100b warrior if you know what I mean.
