TL;DR: Guild Wars 2 is kittening awesome.
I couldn’t agree more.
Very well summarized!
I started playing this game at release. I haven’t been continuously playing since release though. I have taken some pretty long breaks but I always find myself returning to this game. My last return over a month ago has really got me enjoying the game more than I ever have and here is why….
I’m older now, only 26, but still at a point in my life where I can’t spend all my time gaming. I have a full time job, I’m getting married soon and I just don’t have as much time as I used to. I don’t feel punished for that though with this game. I can log on when I can, do what I want and enjoy my time.
Another thing that I love is the whole megaserver thing. I’m not sure how many people agree with me but I personally believe the whole megaserver thing is so great for this game. I absolutely hate it when I play an MMO and see empty areas. It may not be a big deal but just seeing other players out in the world does so much for me. It makes the world feel so alive. I love doing world bosses as well and never have to worry about there being enough players around to do it.
When I’m done with world bosses or don’t feel like doing them, I’m lucky (others may find it unlucky) to be on Jade Quarry, one of the biggest WvW servers. I love how at almost any time I can log on, go onto team speak and join up with a group/commander and take part in large scale fights.
I love how this game is more about actually playing what you want and not just about grinding gear. Do what you want and you will naturally get your gear or gold and other currency to get your gear. Then it’s all about customization. It’s amazing playing and seeing all the different great customizations people make with their characters. I love doing it with mine as well.
The reason I kept taking breaks from this game is because I don’t enjoy playing MMOs by myself and none of my friends play GW2. However, finally joining in on the server team speak for WvW and joining a great guild has kept me enjoying playing this game without other friends in real life. I don’t feel alone when I log in.
I just never feel bored with this game. I never feel like I’ve done everything so I won’t log in until the next week. Every day I have so much to do. Even if it’s the same things, there are so many different things to do that it doesn’t get old.
Just wanted to get that out because I really love this game and some positivity is always nice!
I cant believe someone asked for this to be free. I could see maybe asking for it to be free if there was a monthly subscription but even those types of games make you pay for the expansions. Unless you gave money to get gems you only paid once for this entire game so far. That is amazing. Especially for all the content this game has and has been added already for free. To ask for this to be free is honestly just being greedy/cheap. I love free stuff but sometimes you just need to know when you don’t deserve anything just handed to you and this is one of those times.

Depends upon the player. Chasing world events is grinding for loot. The servers are combined, now, so there are almost always enough people on the map even if there may be fewer players grinding.
Are there certain world bosses that people tend to do more than others? Teq seems like a big thing. There were tons of people when I did it before. Is it because of the rewards you can get from Teq? Does he drop certain things?
Just did the “new” Teq and I was wondering what world bosses people do these days. I remember last time I played people did all the Dragons and pretty much all of the other big world bosses. What’s the world boss situation like now? Do people still do as many as they can? Or are there only a few that are worth it.
Congrats! Hope you don’t have to pay for all 5 weddings haha. kitten dude.
How big are the fights typically in T2? Is it pretty much all zerging/blobing like in T1? Or are things a bit smaller?
Currently on JQ but I have a few friends on Fort Aspenwood. How much will the WvW dynamic change if I end up transferring servers?
well at least nightblue isnt a kittenbag like sodapoppin…
Soda is a pretty nice guy, he swear a lot but that is just his personalty, he just did a charity stream last sunday and raised 10k for charity.
only kittenbags do charity streams in my experience. they make up for being bad people by giving back to society, and it makes them not as bad in general, but still unpalatable at a smaller scale.
By your logic I am surprised you aren’t doing charity streams daily.
The saltyness of people in this thread is incomprehensible.im just not afraid to speak my mind. like… personally im not salty at all, i welcome the increased viewership. exposure is good for the game and good for our queue times. and nightblue is a good guy.
You literally said only kittenbags do charity streams. You could make enough pretzels to feed the entire population of India with the amount of salt coming from your post.

Gotcha, thanks everyone. Reason I asked is because I have two friends who are new to the game now and they were asking about the transmutation charges. It was so long ago I transmuted my 80 that I didn’t even remember how I got my stuff to do it.
I know there are ways to obtain transmutation charges without gems but in general it’s something you buy from the gem store. It wasn’t always like this right? I haven’t played in a long time but I don’t remember having to buy anything from the gem store to transmute my items. What was the mechanism to transmute items in the past?
Anet really should get in contact with Blue, not to pay him or anything, just talk about pvp portion because he seems to be interested in that.
People who mindless live on the words of some random internet streamer are pretty hilarious in a very sad way.
why should Arenanet care what some streamer does? Personally, I suspect all these new streamers and their crowds are going to go back to WOW when that new expansion comes out.
Wow expansion already came out several months ago…And Arenanet actually does already care about what a streamer does. They were in contact with that streamer sodapoppin when he started playing this game. They understand that good can come from publicity from these streamers. Sadly many of the players of this game dont.
Except that they was no evidence Arenanet was in contact with them. Someone gifted him a cash shop item which usually comes up as Arenanet. I suspect you wouldn’t know that because no one gifts you stuff.
So you are saying WoW is going to stop getting expansions?
The Guild Wars 2 twitter account tweeted directly to Sodapoppin the day he started streaming to try and give him advice and to welcome him to the game. If you think developers of a game don’t care when some of the most popular streamers start playing their game you are very mistaken. Also I’m not quite sure why you seem to have tried to take a personal attack on me our of no where by saying no one gifts me stuff.
No I don’t expect wow to stop getting expansions. I’m just pointing out the fact that one JUST came out so why can’t we welcome players from other games. If they want to go back at some point then go back. People are allowed to play multiple games at once or at different times.
Because it’s entertainment.
I wouldn’t call it entertaining but oh well, people are different, lol. Enjoy!
Ok, but it’s still entertainment regardless if you find it entertaining or not. So you acting like there’s something wrong with people watching video game streams is unwarranted. I don’t find golf entertaining to watch but I enjoy playing it. Am I “facepalming”, going “wtf” and claiming people waste their time watching it? No.
I’m not acting like that, I just posted my opinion about it, just like you did. I didn’t understand it first but you explained it and I said enjoy it, then… There’s no need to overcomplicate everything.
How can you say you aren’t acting how I mentioned when your post did exactly everything I stated you did? If you aren’t claiming people are wasting their time, saying “wtf” to it and facepalming why did you make this post?
^ This. I don’t really understand why these streamers are popular, tbh. And why do people waste their time on watching other people playing games instead of actually playing games? WTF? -facepalm-
600k Oh right. So what is the precise concern again. That they are all bad people so we don’t want them in GW2?
No can’t say i’m troubled if that’s the argument. Following that line of thinking, we’d also say no one who had a Wow account should be welcome in GW2 because of the culture Wow had. It’s just to broad a stroke to make.
It’s a broad stroke that apparently many people on this forum are making. There are people out there in every game that have this way of thinking. “We don’t want people from X because they will ruin the community of Y.” People should be welcoming new players to a game they enjoy so it continues to be successful. Not shove them away because you live in a fantasy world where any gaming community is void of any toxic players.
Anet really should get in contact with Blue, not to pay him or anything, just talk about pvp portion because he seems to be interested in that.

If i read this correrctly, this Twitch guy has 16k followers. And GW2 has over 2 mill players.
So if a percentage of his followers pick up the game or not, it really doesnt amount ot much in the grand scheme of the numbers.
And if as OP says, his fanbase are toxic and troll kiddo’s, i expect GW2 will be of very little interest.
He actually has 660k followers on twitch alone.
Just googled the guy. No one important, moving on.
^ This. I don’t really understand why these streamers are popular, tbh. And why do people waste their time on watching other people playing games instead of actually playing games? WTF? -facepalm-
Because it’s entertainment. Why do people watch any tv? Why do people watch sports? Why do people watch movies? It’s entertainment. I don’t understand why just because it involves video games that means watching it can’t be entertainment. I can easily go out and play a sport myself. Does that mean I’m wasting my time when I watch sports on tv? No, because it’s all for entertainment.
Really don’t understand all the negativity and hate being spewed in this topic. I never understand why people get bothered when their game gets more publicity. It’s also funny when people act like any game community is some kumbaya fest where everyone gets along. This is the internet. This is online gaming. Where people hidden behind anonymity can and will act like jerks no matter what game they are playing.
The reasoning to be against popular people publicizing a game because it may make a community toxic is absurd. Every gaming community is toxic to some degree. This game isn’t the exception.
No one is telling you to go watch these streamers but don’t act like they are nobodies just because YOU never heard of them. Don’t act like their publicity is bad just because GW2 is your main game. You should be happy that new people are finding out about this great game regardless of how they found out.
I’ve no idea why everyone is being so negative and dismissive. This guy has tons of followers and can have a positive impact on the game’s PvP scene, which it desperately needs. Obviously the majority of the people in this thread do not watch twitch, and that’s sad, because if Gw2 wants to become an esport, twitch is the most powerful avenue to make that a possibility(it went from maybe 1000 viewers total to soda making it a top channel. Phanta almost doubled his followers in one night because of helping soda).
I suppose this boils down to a generation-related problem mostly. To me personally, the concept of (regularly) watching some random kid playing GW2 (or any other game) is utterly alien.
While I do understand the benefits of a video-guide (over a written guide), exactly why I should waste my limited free-time with something I can only think of as a reality-TV-show-version baffles me. Maybe if I was in my early teenager-years desperately looking for some sort of idols or kinship I might, I can’t really say at this point as I’ve left those years behind me a long long time ago.
Ultimately, to me this feels like it has the potential to attract the wrong kind of crow: Youngsters which are easily being manipulated, this being the kind of people I have no interest to interact with in my gaming. Furthermore, they are likely not in a position to be able to regularly support the game beyond their initial purchase of the game. Meaning the regular sum I invest into the game has to be distributed further amongst these new free-loaders.
Personally, I would prefer different sorts of marking for this game.
I’m 26 and I regularly visit twitch to watch people play games because I enjoy that type of entertainment. Sometimes i’ll watch on my 2nd monitor while I play my own game. Sometimes I’m actually just not in the mood to play a game myself and still enjoy watching a streamer on twitch. It’s entertainment, just a different form.
I’ll also visit twitch to discover new games or see games in action that I want to learn more about to consider a purchase. Watching video game streamers isn’t some generational thing you’re making it out to be. People of all ages watch and people of all ages stream. There are PLENTY of adult streamers out there, not just “random kids” as you so nicely put it.
I don’t care. Don’t care if PVP interest in this game dies out 100%. Pretty sure it’s not PVP players that’s keeping the gem store up and running thus keeping the lights on.
Interest in this game in any area helps keep the lights on. Interest in pvp can lead to interest in other areas of the game. Interest in pvp from top streamers develops general interest in the game from their many viewers. Stop being ignorant.
Topics like this make me feel old.
Some random makes youtube videos of games he’s playing, and thousands of people watch them in spite of not playing the game themselves and will start as a result? No part of that makes sense.
Unless you’re already considering buying it, or playing and looking for walk-throughs, I don’t understand the appeal of watching someone you don’t know play games. Even with friends, when you’re in the same room, it can be incredibly boring.
I really don’t see what’s so hard to understand about something like this. People become celebrities in different ways and in different areas of culture. People see their favorite movie star wearing a certain article of clothing and that makes them want to buy/wear it too. Not sure why it’s hard to understand that there are actually celebrities in the gaming world and people are entertained by watching them not just for the games they play but for their personality while they play games. If they see one of their favorite gaming celebrities playing a game that looks interesting to them they are more likely to go try out the game.
I’ve been on Jade Quarry for a very long time so I’m no stranger to zerg vs zerg fighting. However, back when I first started playing I really hated it. I used to just join a map, look for a commander pin and then blindly follow it. I took a long hiatus from the game and just returned last week. I tried something different though. I actually decided to join in on the server teamspeak and it really changed things a lot for me. I was no longer just blindly following a zerg. I was part of a group and was hearing callouts and strategy. I was moving as a group not just following a group. Sure zerg vs zerg can still get a little too crazy at times. Being able to hear the strategy, know exactly how the team is going to move and tackle a fight adds so much to those types of battles though.
I’d highly suggest, for anyone on servers where most of your battles are zerg battles, try hopping on to your server’s teamspeak or whatever voice system they use. You don’t need to talk, just listen! It could help you start to get over your hate for zerg battles!
Love this game.
My biggest suggestion is try out the build in sPvP and see how you like it. It’s not the greatest way to tell if it’ll be good in a zerg, but you can get a decent comparison without investing all the time/money into making a new gear set.
Getting celestial gear is that big an investment/time sink?
I’ve been away from the game for a pretty long time…I could have sworn though that back when I played in WvW, any loot bags that you didn’t pick up ended up going into a chest at your team’s main spawn point. That way if you missed picking up any loot it would all be in the chest for you to take. Did I completely make this up? Dream it? Get this confused with some other thing? Please tell me I’m not crazy
Celestial is a set that has every stat.
Current D/D Ele Roaming meta:
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Elementalist_-_D/D_Roamer
Celestial armor:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Celestial_Intricate_Gossamer_InsigniaThe amulet is referring to a sPvP amulet, and has little bearing on your PvE/WvW gear.
This all being said, you can probably do just fine in the gear you have.
Ah ok good to know! I saw that roaming build but I wasn’t sure how good those stats would be as a D/D in big zergs. I understand that staff is suggested for zerg fights in WvW but I just can’t give up the D/D game play. It’s too much fun for me. Glad to hear I can just keep my current stats to do what I like to do.
Hello everyone! I’m coming back from a pretty long hiatus. Since I returned I tried to try out some other classes but I always end up coming back to my D/D elementalist. It has been what I’ve been maining since release and I can’t seem to find anything else I enjoy as much.
After being gone for a long time I’m a bit lost as to if there is anything I need to upgrade. Here is my current gear status. I currently have all exotic soldier(PVT) armor and ascended soldier accessories/rings and such. I remember going soldier gear because I’m big into WvWvW and being on Jade Quarry puts me into big zerg battles. I don’t enjoy using a staff so I have a lot of fun being pretty beefy in the middle of zerg battles with my daggers.
I’m assuming a lot has changed since I last played. I keep seeing the term celestial being mentioned. Is that a certain set of stats on gear? If so how do you get this gear? Why is celestial being mentioned so much? Is it really good? I specifically see people mention a celestial amulet. Why is this?
I’m just looking to see what I may need to change about my gear if it does need to change. If I’m looking to be a beefy D/D ele would it be best to stick to my soldier gear? Is there another set of stats out there now that actually would make me more beefy?
Thanks for all help!
Now you guys are making me think about making a guardian…Maybe i’ll make a guardian, go sword/board and then go staff as my other weapon since staff is what people really like for guardians in WvWvW. Just so I could switch if I felt like I must.
Looking for some builds from people who use a shield.
I know shields aren’t very good to use but I want to use one for the aesthetics. Just looking for some builds from people. Thanks!
I’ll probably just try out a Warrior then. Luckily I have a 62 warrior from back when I first played so I don’t have much more leveling to do
Well, as you said, shields aren’t always the best choice… but if I had to pick one, I’d take the warrior, because the guardian shield skills are kinda boring imo.
Yeah I fully understand they aren’t the best choice. If I was on a server though where in WvW I wouldn’t just be a body in a blob I would probably think differently. But when I’m one person in a blob of 50 I just want to have fun and look cool.
Hello all! Returning player looking to try out a new profession. I’ve always enjoyed using shields in MMOs because I love the sword and board look. I’ve looked on metabattle and I do notice that shields don’t seem to be that great. I think I saw one suggested build on the site mention a shield.
While using what’s currently the “best” is sometimes fun for me I also enjoy just using what I find fun or what I think looks cool. I’m big in to WvWvW. I’m on Jade Quarry so I’m mostly one of the numbers in a big blob. However I actually enjoy that. I just want to feel/look like a kitten while doing it and being a beefed up character with plate gear and a sword/axe and shield would do that for me.
So any suggestions to help me out? Are there any decent builds for Warrior or Guardian using a shield so I wouldn’t be completely useless at least?
It’s funny seeing people in this thread get upset that this game is getting some publicity from a very popular streamer. It’s also funny seeing people act like their precious game is going to suddenly become tainted because of this. These types of people are just as bad as the people they claim will come and “taint” their game. New players should always be welcome in games like this where the population drives the success of the game.
I’m also returning after a lengthy break, and I noticed that guilds can now have members from all servers, no need to form a group on your local server. This isn’t an issue for most events in game, but WvW still requires you to stick with your own server.
My guess is that more people enter by themselves as their main guild may be on a different server.
Ah I see. This could be it. I’m on Jade Quarry though so I should be able to find a dedicated WvW guild.
holy cow I come back after a year and see my topic still going! Never had one of these before that just keeps going. Pretty cool to see!
It’s been a very long time since I played this game and I went into WvW last night and something seemed different. I was always used to seeing large groups of people of the same guild but now it seems like there more of a mix of everything in big groups. Did something change about guilds that would cause this?
I’ve been away for a long time but wanted to play again. The only times I really enjoyed this game was when I was in a large active guild. I’m not looking for a role playing guild but a guild that takes part in every aspect of the game. A good WvWvW guild would be nice too. I’m currently on Jade Quarry but I’m not against changing to one of the other two big WvWvW servers. Does anyone have any suggestions on guilds?
I’ve got a corrupted dagger and a fused dagger and my god it looks fantastic! The daggers give off fire and ice like effects and it looks amazing dual wielding them
Hey Mask, what makes you choose condition damage over let’s say 100% condition duration?
Ha sorry about that. New to the engineer (and their forums) so I didn’t know who Mask was and such so I was just looking for topic titles trying to find the video. Thanks though!
Thank you to whatever moderator made my topic title better! The reason why I didn’t make the topic title fully descriptive is because I thought it would be too long to fit
Here’s my Guardian.

Do you have a picture for us?
You chose to mix and match your styles of armor instead of getting gear all from one set of a certain style.
Here is my Charr using:

Sorry for this nooby question but what is this AoE cap you guys are talking about? Is it just there is a cap on the amount of people an AoE can damage?
If you don’t like commander tags don’t follow its that simple.
I like the commander tags. I was just asking for conversation sake. No need to be so snippy
What do you think it would be like? Do you think it would be better or worse? Do you think it would spread people out more in the high tier match ups?
Yeah that doesn’t help me at all considering I only want suggestions from people who use ZXCV for attunements and I don’t care about what mouse people use.
I’ve never been a fan of reaching for the F# keys…I’ve basically been running full signets on my d/d ele just so I wouldn’t have reach for more keys. But now that I really want to improve my game by using cantrips I need to figure out key bindings that are comfortable.
So I’m curious, for anyone who uses ZXCV for their attunements, what do you use for your heal and utility abilities? If you don’t use the F# keys obviously.
How come, if you are using cantrips and the trait that gives regen when you use a cantrip, you don’t take the trait that removes conditions when you grant regen?
I’m not able to watch the video right now (at work) but I looked at your trait build you put in the description. So maybe that build is not exactly what you use
