Ascended Gear to be Required for Raids

By playing wvw/pvp/silverwastes we all should be able to craft a piece of ascended armor or weapon every 10-14 days. What’s the problem?
1 piece every 14 days for 8 pieces (6 armor pieces, 2-4 weapons; the player will acquire laurels for trinkets during that time) is 112-140 days. That’s assuming someone is a very active player.
4-5 months of gear grind is now a reasonable thing, in this game? In EQ/WoW/FFXI that’s par for the course, but in Guild Wars 2 you think it’s reasonable that people need to grind SW for at least 4 months to do raids?
Yikes.

As if veterans haven’t had 3 years to get ascended armor with how easy it is and especially with the ability to change the stats on ascended now to what you need, no one should be crying over ascended having to be slotted AT LEAST for the last wing raid. She explains you don’t need full ascended for the first 2 wings, how is this even something to complain about? Rings, Trinkets, and Amulets are extremely simple to get in this game. There is no treadmill, its been this way for almost 2 1/2 years, stop complaining. If you’re new to the game, then there is some relevance to this otherwise, they couldn’t of made it any easier to get ascended gear, especially with the billion options to get trinkets now.
3 years, not a treadmill? How about the thousands of players who haven’t had “3 years” to get gear? Should we make sure they have to wait 2 months, 6 months, 1 year, or whatever arbitrary time value to grind out the gear needed to be able to play in your sandbox too?
Do you understand how long it takes for a fresh account to get full ascended, to even be considered worthy of an invite to attempt this content?
But hey, MMO fans can’t fathom a game without grind. If they could go back and re-design Super Mario Bros. to require you to stomp 1000 Goombas on 1-1 before having enough strength to jump on the axe to kill Bowser at each castle, they would.
Well, we can’t say there is “no grind” for gear, because despite what they claim (re: material farming) ascended is completely a grind.
But, yes, there is essentially no grind in order to simply play through the game’s content. Grind only comes into it when you’re chasing those cosmetics and legendaries, and that’s perfectly ok.

Just my take on a way to implement a method to use items between characters, drumming up more item usage and sales for Anet.
—The Start—
A new tab would be added to the bank interface, this tab would be an account pouch (name open for change) this tab would the only way to add or remove items from this pouch. The tab could have a start up price of gems (400, would be reasonable, due to character cost later on). Tab could have less space than a bank slot, with room to buy more.
Include in this tab are 3 Tool Slots, one pick/axe/sickle. The slots would hold, usable items Revive orbs, merchant summons, summon stones, potions, drinks & foods, Boosts, and WvW items) Salvage Kits (Merchant bought, infinite or black lion) Toys, Movement changes, and Instruments.
Along with items such as the Infinite Continue Coin or not infinite, possible even pick locks that would allow you to use the items from the pouch, same method as the tools.
—Way to access—
A new icon would be on the bottom of the inventory interface, clicking this would have a pop up of just the slots, and will stay open until closed (this way you can use salvage slots with little effort). You would only be allowed to use the items, no switching, no moving and no adding anymore through this interface.
—Tool Slots—
The tool slots would be the major reason for the character cost. My idea for this is the you can store any type of tools, infinite or merchant bought in these slots. The way to use those tools is to not have any equipped on your character while trying to mine/chop/harvest. This would allow you to use different tools if your wished to, such as having a bone pick in the account pouch for back up but still like using the golem pick for an Asuran character for role play, or alternative use up those specials ones like frost tools.
—Cost—
Now the biggest complaint is that this could take money away from Anet (nothing I want to do) so the best way to address that is to make it that each separate character would have to pay an amount of gems (200 or less) to unlock the pouch icon on the bottom of the inventory interface (this is the better option so that the bank tab does not get stuck behind a gem lock for each character).
Although I would prefer not having to pay twice for items already purchased.
—Why—
Alot of people will just switch items around, that is all well and good for them but I don’t like having to run back to do so, and lets face it I forget about alot of them items and most of them sit and do nothing, I have no reason to buy more because I don’t use them as is. But if they get used and I find I like them alot more I may buy more.
The same goes for infinite tools, I bought a few at 800Gems each, but at 1000 I have no interest in buying anymore this way Anet can still make some money off my already bought tools because I would use them for new characters with little hassle.

I’m sure some people will open the gate for free, no need to pay.
When I play other F2P games as a F2P player, I wish me and the others of my kind were restricted from map chat as well.
I think this restriction is a HUGE bonus, not just to veterans, but to new players alike.
If free players were allowed to /map, there’s a good chance you STILL wouldn’t be able to ask for help. Questions and answers tend to get buried beneath all of the arguing and botting.
To that end, I ENCOURAGE veterans to reach out on map chat and let people know they are available for questions through PM. I feel this would help create the best system for new players to get help.
I’ve made some posts about the problems in the “’Zerker META”. I’ve seen others post about this as well.
Posts on this topic get quickly heated, and locked because of how volatile it is to even bring it up as though it is a problem. Or discuss negative experiences relating to it.
The only useful things to come out of these posts, is a general consensus to “respect the LFG”.
Meaning if you see a “Exp 80, ’Zerk link gear” description, only join it if that’s what your doing.
Ok, I dig.
But I’d like to say, this door swings both ways. If you see a “Non-speedrun, Not-skipping, Non-exploit” LFG… Would you guys mind giving it the same respect?
Now, “all welcome” LFG’s can expect no such respect… because they are, by definition, all inclusive, as the should be, simply to avoid confusion. So this is the description where all players have agreed to tolerate each other.
But there needs to be as much respect for the groups of us, who want to play out the content… or kill every mob… or not stand on the magical little spot where the boss can’t hit you… or play it the way the dev’s made it, without “gaming the game”
So far, I’ve made a serious attempt, to avoid LFG descriptions I don’t like…. or am not in the mood for, but over the past several nights I’ve had repeated occurrences of folks joining the group I started, (yes, with my own LFG) usually stating “not skipping, non-exploit, playing content”. Folks then join up, and play out the content till after the first boss or so, then they start using all the little tricks, and skipps, and stacks, and exploits they know. When I point out “err… hey the LFG said no skipping, or exploits, and I asked you guys about that before we started. You were all cool with it then… can we get back to that style please?” I get snarky replies, vote kicked, or otherwise ignored, and get pulled kicking and screaming speed run through the dungeon.
Now, you may say… “well then, leave group?” and ya know? Sometimes I do… but I don’t like doing the first half of a dungeon over and over only to be betrayed by the “easy way” again and again… so eventually I just finish the kitten dungeon, and get my marks, and my gold.
So I guess, what I’m respectfully asking of the community is…..
“Can we please, respect the LFG?”

I consider the practice bad, personally, but that’s an opinion. The fact is that it’s not against any rules and that guy was a jerk.

I do not understand these threads. “My family and I have played thousands of hours, but we feel ‘cheated’ because the person who is joining now plays the core game for free or pays just the one fee for Heart of Thorns.”
Let’s consider another type of purchase, that of DVDs. FotR was $30 when it came out on DVD. You now can get all three chapters of LotR for less than $20. But the person who buys now lost years of viewing pleasure because he didn’t own the video at release. LotR is shown for free on television, but that doesn’t negate the value of purchasing the DVDs, for those of us who chose to make those purchases. Imagine showing up at a DVD retailer and saying, “This movie is now free. I want money off another title.”
The hours in Guild Wars 2 that your family has enjoyed—very likely the thousands of accumulated hours—are not without value. They are not, to us, without cost. The 40 major updates we have made to the game that you have been enjoying for three years each add significant value to your purchases: Wintersday festivals that a new player will never be able to attend, major in-game events they’ll never see, drops that were only available to you, as a veteran player, during a limited period.
The position in the first post has been put forth by different people and successfully dispelled time and time again. OP — Please know that we greatly appreciate your support. I encourage you to make whatever purchase decision is best for you and your family. But please never forget that all you have gotten for each of your purchases does have value, in the overall view of things.

You paid to get access to the game at the point you had paid for it. So you’ve had access for the game longer than someone who got it for free yesterday. That isn’t even taking into account that their free access is restricted.
No… gw2 when I bought it wasn’t advertised as buy for early access, or wait and play for free… I paid for content of worth, under the understanding that you HAD to buy to play, as THAT is what it was advertised as. you say I could have waited and got it for free, but lets be realistic, who ever thought gw2 would be given out free, the devs certainly never so much as even eluded to such a thing at release. Now they are telling me that content is actually worthless, but because I wanted to play when it was released, too bad, I should have waited, I have to pay. people are fond of used car references, but what company gives out a old used mustang, completely updated and matained for free so long as you buy the new stereo they put in there???
These really bad analogies are fun, lets keep it up. You’re saying that if someone else gets a moped for free, your mustang is somehow worth less.
You… reading comprehension? I said if someone gets a mustang for free simply for buying the stereo in it, my mustang is worth less.
Your mustang is worth exactly the same as his mustang. It was worth less regardless of him getting it or not. The difference is you had a mustang for a much longer time.
This analogy is still bad, since the free version is not the same as the paid version.
They are exactly the same, the same manufacture/seller made and updated them at the same time. I got my mustang sooner then he did yes, but the one at my house was upgraded at the same time as his sitting in the wearhouse. same components, same quality, both kept in pristine condition, but I had to pay to buy it, and I had to pay for every single upgrade that went into it, he bought only the last upgrade and got everything else for free
Everyone who owned the mustang at the time could go to races, and parties, and have access to the mustang whenever they wanted. The guy who just got it yesterday missed all the events, has no idea why the mustangs have a large dent in the rear quarter panel or what the original interior looked like. If it’s the free version they also don’t get a horn, half an engine, and missing a tire.
Because there is a vast difference between an item going on sale and being free. because I shouldn’t have to pay 5 times as much for the same amount of content, period. because if anet is going to make a deal and treat new players special, they should do something special for old players to, who have given so much time and money to this game. because ultimately, this is a product, and whether you choose to see it, we are being undercut
You didn’t give your time to the game like you were doing Anet a favor. You were playing and presumably you were entertained which is a benefit to you. You paid money to be entertained. The exchange has been made.
You pay for access to the game. Price is very much related to that. People pay higher to get in early. Those who don’t feel the price is worth it can come in later. If you get in early but don’t take advantage of your access, that’s your problem. There are many games I could afford but held out on because I realized I wouldn’t have the time to play.

You thought the giant karkas in LA was bad? Next personal story will feature a giant smiley faced building that was animated by an elder dragon, stomping through Lions Arch. You’ve been warned. (There’s something in the water).
There are lots of things that are “time sensitive” rewards. That’s what makes them special and worth having. by the next expansion they’ll probably put out another thank you skin for people that have been around since HoT.
The game needs more things that eventually leave circulation and become unobtainable, not less. Those are the skins and items that become worth cherishing and add value to having “been there”
Ok Anet.
This has been asked for time and again.
And now with Raids where we might have to change to complete the fight it is time for you to ACTUALLY add Trait Build Saves.
I know that this has been asked for its time for you to put it in like Guild Wars 1.

People wanted horizontal progression for god’s sake. Do you seriously want no progression in the game at all? That’s not really good for the game…
Actually, I prefer being able to ‘rest’ after leveling. For me, the fun is in the challenge of the game, not the challenge of needing to keep adding to my character’s abilities. I am not sure that horizontal progression is good for games. However, it’s cheaper than updating instances and combat AI and it’s what everyone expects from expacs — if ANet can’t figure out a way to avoid it, I doubt any other gaming company is going to try.
Choosing to buy a product that you ostensibly want is somehow a, “screw you,” from the producer?
If a total of 4 expansions (plus core game) is going to cost you $1500 over the course of as much as 12 years that equates to $125 per year for six people. A little over $20 per person, per year. Thats a bit over $1.50 per month for potentially thousands of hours of play time.
Is there any form of purchased entertainment that provides even close to as much play time?
How is receiving one of the best, perhaps the best, entertainment time per dollar spent packages available being screwed over?
If it is purely a matter of cost there is nothing to prevent you from buying every second or third expansion and receiving the previous expansions for free too. In a sense you are not buying the expansion, you are paying for early access to it.
The problem with “flexible” is that somewhere with scaling there will be “optimal” amount of ppl that for example causes boss to use his killer move less often yet is numerous enough to deliver the kill. And so instead of 10 ppl raids we’ll get meta 7 ppl runs or some such, cause “optimal”..
8-12 would have been a perfect compromise.
I also HATE HATE HATE the idea of set number raids.
What if you have 7 people or 13 people? What if you have 35 people? What if you have 60 people?
Scaling is already not perfect and raid encounters are content that is supposed to be challenging and cleared in very specific and coordinated ways. I think scaling takes away from that aspect of it.
GW2 does a great job providing PvE content for solo, small groups, or massive groups but there is no middle ground between the latter two and nothing for the cutting edge to pursue. Raids are meant to fill that gap.
For a long time, fixed raid size has been an issue. You will see, it sucks to be on a bench while the other guild members raid.
In the last expansion World of Warcraft introduced flex raid. It was a true breakthrough. The raid difficulty scales with the number of people you bring. It has been a true success. No more people on the bench. For instance you have a flex raid size between 10 to 20. This will satisfy most of the guilds.
This comment is a little disingenuous no? The highest level of raiding in World of Warcraft is still a fixed size because of balance. Even with flexible raiding there are ‘sweet spot’ group sizes that many people aim for.
Raids are meant to be difficult content for organized groups, it’s not really surprising that it’s balanced around a set size to reduce variables.
—
These reactions aren’t exactly surprising though, there has been a huge shift in the past few years for MMO gamers to expect all content to be tailored specifically to what they want. It’s a very entitled culture.
I just can’t wait for the massive outcry for nerfs to difficult and crying about certain rewards being locked behind raid content.
WTKITTEN … people whine “I WANT RAIDS I WANT RAIDS” then Anet makes them .. and now people are kittening because of the size? REALLY? this is just ridiculous .. i feel sorry for game devs for having to put up with this childish crap
The point is, it’s been YEARS since an official response on this forum. Regardless of what they say initially, to respond at all would help people feel that they are being heard.
That is true in most parts of the forum. It isn’t unique to the thieves.
Also, be aware that many mmos you get no responses at all from the devs. Would we all like more communications? Sure. But I don’t hold my breath on it, and honestly I can’t think of a single post ever where someone specifically requested a dev’s response and actually got one, other than like very serious game bugs that are breaking the game (like the revive on clone death they recently fixed).
What’s more, posts with extremely negative tones tend not to get answered either. I find that if a dev ever responds, its almost certainly to a post that is providing feedback without resorting to backlash-style attitudes. Of course, even then it’s not guaranteed.
But they are watching. Changes have been happening. The revenant, for instance, had some substantial changes based on feedback given on the forums. Same with tempest, dragonhunter, etc etc.
Focus on constructive rather than destructive feedback and, even if you don’t get a response, you are more likely to be heard. BTW, constructive feedback doesn’t mean POSITIVE feedback – it just means giving an honest explanation of what you feel is right AND wrong with something… in a manner trying to improve the game rather than insult the devs and anet.
When you develop your own game, you can decide how movement speed works.
Be happy that we even move faster out of combat at all, since we could have been stuck at “combat speed” at all times….
I personally enjoy the speed increase that allows us to get around faster when not in combat.
You are just seeing the glass as half empty instead of half full.
Im not suprised you keep getting reminded to sign up. Account security is a pretty big deal and this goes a long way towards making it more secure if the red posts on the subject are any indication. Otherwise its like your willingly walking around with a gap someone else can crawl in through. Id reccomend getting the authenticator program for your computer if you don’t want it on any external advice.
Its better than the alternative of leaving your computer vulnerable. When I still played wow I ended up getting hacked. Issue is my ranking in my guild was high enough they got access to our guild bank. Which they promptly cleaned out. I ended up leaving the guild even after it was restored due to the fact that the guild bank itself WASN’T restored. And nothing I could have done would have been enough to repay the guild for that my laziness cost them. (several mounts that didn’t drop anymore. Extremely rare weapon skins. High tier equipment for people that wan’t to get into raiding. And months worth of consumable buff items)
Id have to say bite the bullet and get the authenticator program for your pc. Its the least invasive. And its better for the people you play with as well as yourself.
You could always just sign up, to stop the messages? O_o
Except that signing up makes thing even worse.
For serious, no matter that I choosed to “Remember this network”, every 4-5 days it asks me to re-input the code.
In the foruns it just don’t remember ever, and every time I need to log-in, I need to check my phone the new code.
I’ve never had to put in a code to login to the forums. I’ve only ever had to put it in when I launch the game client and even then, I only ever have to redo it if I reset my modem or the internet went down for whatever reason (where it forgets the network you are on).
That being said, I’ve had to reinsert the code a grand total of three times since going onto the new system. It’s hardly what I’d call an inconvenience and, in my opinion, it is rather trifle compared to the potential inconvenience of having your account hacked into. I’m glad they added an authentication process, and while I do agree that opting out should be an option, I would personally recommend that players use authentication regardless.
There are a few benefits. Firstly, you’d secure your own account (obviously). But in addition to that, you’d also help reduce the potential amount of gold sellers in game by making your account harder to hack. Thus, you potentially remove the inconvenience of having to block and report every time you get spammed, or save yourself having to read or delete pointless scam mails in game. The more people secure their accounts, the less issues you have to deal with, with regards to spam and botting in game.
Of course, all of this probably wouldn’t be as necessary if people knew how to properly secure their accounts in the first place (e.g. not using their username +123! as their password). But yeah, I guess that’s not going to happen. >_>

It’s pay to win. I had to pay money before they let me play the game and post on the forums! \o/
If I haven’t paid I wouldn’t have 13 characters, hours I spent playing, chatting with friends and guildies, doing jumping puzzles, teaching Teq a lesson, exploring, getting achieve points, doing the story lines, etc, etc, etc,
It’s a scam I tell you, a scam!

I don’t know exactly what P2W means when it comes to games, but have always treated it as meaning a game(mmo) where the highest power comes only from spending real cash. If you didn’t spend cash or grind an insane amount you could never be at the same power level as someone spending cash.
So no, gw2 is not P2W.
GW2 has pay to avoid a lot of grind for power, but it’s less than what I would consider P2W.
