Like I said…I love the game and I want it to succeed but the community cannot deal with a company that constantly won’t listen to its players. The game is already balanced around pvp (or they say), but they just aren’t…good enough. And they being whoever is managing community growth and relations, pvp, and the whole game in general.

You know why? It’s damage control. I’m so kittening glad they did it but kneejerk reactions aren’t going to fix the game. THOUGHTFUL, deliberate content and better balance, matchmaking, effort overall will be required.

Classes/Builds are not balanced to encourage skilled play.

The community constantly gives feedback but most is ignored by the dev team.

Every balance overcompensates nerfs or significantly changes sigils, skills, runes, until they are either way too powerful or way too weak.

To be honest, whoever is leading the balance/pvp push should be fired. I’ve heard a lot about the resource strain over at Anet studios but this doesn’t even make sense. What the hell are they dedicating resources to? They have had years to make this work and they are throwing WvW and PvP down the toilet. WvW is one of the most unique game modes in mmos at moment and had huge potential for revenue. PvP if done right could have had the best action based esports type feel to it.

Good job Anet, you’ve kitten on your own players for 3 years. 3 YEARS. Most of us have given you feedback for years in hopes we would be listened to but it’s starting to get old. I’m sure many of us are on the verge of just giving up.

Honestly blaming just ANET isn’t exactly true. It is also this community. Perfect example would be the community commending the rage quitters.

Look, the players have been patient for a VERY long time. We’ve spent a lot of money and time…only to face this kitten over and over.

Game lost its magic.

I usually have a positive outlook but HoT to me is the beginning of the end. People came back to give the company another shot only to feel ripped off.

There is nothing fun about pvp anymore. Be it the meta, long queue time, bad matchmaking. And if you decide to pve or wvw, they ruined those too. There is nothing fun about this game anymore.

This right here.

I came back to the game after a long break and was ready to buy HoT. I decided to hold off on buying HoT and instead play for a while to see what the state of the game is at the moment. After playing for a week and watching some pro matches, I’ve decided to drop the game all together.

This game just isn’t fun.

Come on buddi the holidays are just around the corner

This isn’t even close to an acceptable excuse. People are still expected to work right up until their days off, and continue business as usual right when they get back.

This is what’s been happening for years…years…they keep overpromising and severely underdelivering.

Random hitboxes inside and around keeps?

This has probably been brought up before, but I am constantly being put into combat around keeps and inside keeps.

Is the terrain glitched? I’m not sure why there are patches of land that put you in combat when putting a symbol or autoattacking, and it’s something that just seems like very poor coding.

Fix this kitten please. We deserve better than this.

So I’ve been excited for the past two weeks to see what Anet had up their sleeves in terms of a balance patch. Excited to finally see what they had taken away from the now weeks of player interaction in pvp and wvw so the game could get better.

Remember when they said they would balance more often?

Log in to the forums excited to see what had changed and of course I’m met with bitter disappointment again. Like always. I’m used to disappointment now so it isn’t a big deal but Anet…really? Sound effects?

Did you really have to commit so many resources to the Raid release that still barely makes HoT an actual expansion that nothing could be done with pvp? This is pathetic, and I really hate the fact that there is close to no communication as to what to expect, and are ALWAYS overpromising.

I’m beginning to think that this is just the culture over at their studios and we can’t really hope for more. I’ve been disappointed with WvW, finished exploring almost all of the new PVE zones in a few days, and pvp is just trash right now.

No appreciation for your customers at all.

So since no one is really giving you feedback, I will!

1.) You spend a lot of time running (or jumping) around, make a decision and go there. You’re wasting time either way. You go home to fight a 3v2 where you probably should have gone mid to fight and claim it 100% since home already had 2 of your teammates on it. You lost mid because of this, your mid player was fighting a 1v2 and you should have been there to support him.
2.) Speaking of mid, you go right into the fight and pop rampage. It’s almost NEVER advisable to pop rampage right off the fight. You’re goal as full Zerker is to do as much constant dps as possible. You should do your regular axe/shield, GS damage rotation first and then go into rampage to finish them off. Once you get back out of rampage, your cooldowns will be back up for another round of burst, which is even more dps.
If you wait to pop rampage, the enemy players will be low and less equipped with cooldowns and dodge rolls. They will be sitting ducks for when you do rampage, and you will have an easy stomp with the constant stability it gives you.
3.) You were never going to win that fight mid, you should have said, hey I need a peel off mid, I’m heading: (insert site here), and you should have ran like hell. Instead you stayed to fight and died for absolutely no reason. It was more downtime for you and your team suffered for it (except now I see that you decapped far to which that I say: any good team would have stopped that, you would have been snared and dead a lot sooner than you were). The only time you do stay on point is if you absolutely know you’re going to get backed up with 2+ within 10 seconds.
4.) The rotate home was good, as your teammates had far. Finish your Axe 1 chain if you’re gonna do it. You double stomped the necro, when you should have just cleaved since there was still a threat on the point. Good kill on the thief lol he’s mad.
5.) The rotate far is sketchy, you had just wiped 3 of them and you go far as a zerker alone. Fortunately for you the enemy team didn’t go home like they should have (horrible rotations on their part), but with any other team would would have been 1v3 and you would have quickly died with no chance of escape.
6.) When you downed the engineer mid during the second team fight you didn’t follow up for some reason. No idea why you did that. Make you sure watch your axe 1, icon when auto attacking stealthed targets, when you hit them it will switch to the next line in the chain. You did it a few times, found the stealthed player, but neglected to follow up and the engineer was ressed. Misplay on you big time there.
7.) lol Rush is so broken right now, that thief is so mad.
8.) In the 3rd mid fight vs the thief and guardian you panic dodged after you blocked the thief’s first attack. Then you start swinging back at him with your GS and you didn’t use WW on him before switching back to axe. You had 3 more skills up on your GS and you didn’t use them. Then you switched to axe, didn’t use shield bash at all to push out more damage, you could have set up a nice burst there, but you didn’t. Then you use a dodge roll on rampage for no reason. Basically you wasted your skills/didn’t use all of them, then paniced into a very predictable, healing signet rampage.

All I can say is: poor Five Gauge, I bet he’s ready for the league system lol, he was the only good player in that enemy team.

Bimbim is a top thief too – he just didnt play too well that game.

I agree with your feedback for the most part, but for the rotation at the beginning…I knew that Chaith +1 were heading home so wanted to make sure Chaith was taken out. Also, I went mid to keep it decapped while i had rampage to ensure far could be pushed. Sure, I could have +1’d mid from the beginning or left to far after the home fight but that was assuming they wouldn’t just push far from spawn and mid with Chaith alive and have mid + far after the engagement. I bought a lot of time for our team to regroup and hit far, which they did. I went to far knowing that I had some time before Bimbim ressed and it would force him to either come to me at his home or decap far, which we were watching. I’ve seen Apex do this before with this type of rotation and it tends to work as long as the matchup is ok. They had no dd ele, and I was decently confident I could hold a 1v1 vs most of the other team.

Hey everyone, I’ve been putting in quite a bit of work into sPVP as a warrior for ladders and had a recent game vs Chaith +Bimbim that I wanted to share.

Can I get feedback from experienced players in terms of my rotations, skill usage, etc? I’m thinking to main thief, warrior, or revenant for HoT so any thoughts would be awesome:

^^Right, but that opens up the bag for another issue. It would take so much more effort for them to balance the game for PVE and PVP/WVW right?

They need to manage both sides of the game differently or atleast find a better way to balance between the three. For instance they made stealth reveal longer in pvp vs pve, and that is fine. Why not create more changes surrounding each game mode rather than create a 1 size fits all solution? Oh yea, effort.

What you said about mantras is exactly their problem on the balance side. Instead of sitting down and doing the hard work of thinking through viability/balance, they go the incredibly lazy route of just straight up nerfing the mantras. What about PU? What about thinking through how to really increase diversity?

That didn’t happen, because they are straight up lazy and won’t take the time to really work with the community to make the game better.

Thief/ranger main here.

All of you mesmers probably feel incredibly frustrated with this new update, and you might be surprised that almost every other class player understands where you are coming from.

Yes, mesmer did need tweaking to adjust several of the traits – it was agreed that there were some incredibly overpowered traits that had no counterplay.

But ANET once again revealed how disconnected they are from the players and community.

They keep preaching diversity and balance, but it seems like everything they do is a kneejerk reaction and nowhere near the calculated, logical response most balance teams have. They nerf mantras but not PU, why? They nerf rampage for warriors but don’t think about the lack of synergy for many warrior traits. Instead of balancing taunt and fixing shortbow range, they buff offhand skills.

The consistency between their balances is that they…
1. Don’t really know how to balance. You can check their Linkedin, they were hiring for a PVP balancer and that was several months ago. Who knows how they are actually approaching balancing.
2. They preach diversity but create updates that do nothing but hurt diversity (d/p thieves? what else is viable?)
3. They don’t follow through. Every update they make comes with the promise that tweaks will be made and updates will be built on. How many times do they promise things and not make fixes/communicate with the players?

I don’t feel incredibly bad that there were mesmer nerfs, but it showcases that they don’t understand what needed to be nerfed and what buffed.

Just take a moment and think of how many traits on all the classes are garbage and how many are so overpowered you are forced to take them. Think of how many really great PVE or PVP builds for each class there really are. And be disappointed.

Hopefully this changes with HoT, but chances are…a company with huge issues on their dev/balance/design side will continue to have the same issues later on.

I feel the same. I don’t feel like a warrior when I’m on shoutbow, more like a kitten monk. I want the design to be more similar to gw1…you get scarier as the fight goes on, and adrenaline is needed for attacks.

It was super annoying to fight you guys on point, but the hard thing about necro 5 mans is mobility, which we exploited with constant far point pushes and backcaps.

Yea, I think it would just add more viability to offhand axe…GS isn’t in a bad place for instance because each of the weapon skills has utility. Axe…oh god.

Evis has an easy to read animation, but it’s not helped by the fact that the threat on axe is evis and the auto..

I’m a little apprehensive about not going down the precision line, just because precision + extra condi damage is just so kitten good. Also, if you are going rampagers, the bonus to damage from precision is pretty insane + extra chance to proc bleeds from increased crit chance, and blademaster.

I’m going to try a rampager build later to see what I can pull off XD

I rarely use HB anymore running GS/Axe.SW.

I use the GS to kite and deal extra damage while charging up for bursts with evis.

GS/Hammer works because you have multiple ccs to help set up HB but it’s still super hard against some classes (esp with blind and kiting)

Any other condi rangers find this an impossible match up? With protection + regen, it’s almost impossible for a pure condi ranger to get them below 90% to do damage. They also dont take any soft cc, so no way to keep pressure off you aside from evades.

It’s not horrible but the problem is that it doesn’t stand out as a superior class vs hambow or shoutbow. You don’t have the mobility and survivability of shoutbow, and shutdowns/area attrition the hambow does better.

You also don’t have to group support mechanics of a shoutwarrior to help cleanse party condis and gives buffs.

It’s not horrible though and would be viable for pick up games.

^You can with a sigil of doom on one or both weapons – having poison master frees up your weapon sigils for torment, chilling, whatever else you want + increases damage.

I love it, but there are specific situations where I would take Bark Skin or Empathetic Bond..

Empathetic Bond when I’m running <3 WS skills (signet of stone + signet of hunt)
Bark Skin when going against groups of thieves or heavy burst damage classes.

Poison master does wonders when engaging against dd eles, warriors, and basically any class that relies on sustained heals.

And yes, like other people have said, it’s the -33% healing that matters most, not the extra damage, but the damage doesn’t hurt =).

Just wondering, but from a WvW perspective wouldn’t food negate the -33%? Maybe it is more duration effect rather than the minus to healing but 33 is coming to mind with food.

The food in wvw is mainly -condi dur (40% for the highest + hoelbrak = 60%).

Poison reduces healing by 33% regardless of -duration, as long as it’s actively applied. What poison master does is it allows an extra application of poison on pet swap (increases overall poison upkeep), and does more damage per tick.

If you take the advice to just kill the clones … my on-clone-death build will tear you apart. You need to quickly realize whether or not killing clones applies conditions to you. If it does, that advice he gave you will get you killed.

Vs. PU mesmers or other heavy condi mesmers, GS does wonders in its whirlwind evasion phase. Even when they are doing their block>torment, the whirlwind will proc the block but evade the condi apply.

I’ve had lots of success running axe/s GS with reflect missiles + signet of stamina and zerker stance. Cleansing Ire helps as well, but you have to time your eviscerates well. Remember that mesmers also have several attacks granting evades/invul so be careful.

My usual strategy is to block with s 5 towards the end of the mesmer’s invis phases, GS 5 towards mesmers as they appear, don’t attack or whirlwind on mesmer blocks, and condi remove/immune as necessary. Remember a condi mesmer’s main offense relies on your moving to proc their torment or attacking when you have multiple stacks of confusion. Stay out of chaos storm or when they have chaos armor, simply use whirlwind or don’t attack/use sword 5 to reflect attacks.

VS PU or condi mesmers, it’s usually a very long fight to resolve, for Shatter or Shatter hybrids, it’s a much quicker fight but I think it’s def winnable.

Warrior typically has a hard time in 1v2s unless it is sPVP where you’re holding point and using shoutbow or a variant.

The truth of the matter is that we don’t have the true sustain of a dd e/e or evasiveness of something like thief or Mesmer.

If you are running a/s bow you HAVE to hit your bursts (pin down, bow 3, evis) – a missed rotation due to blind or cc or w.e. will just leave you outsustained and dead. Focus on the squishier of the 2 obviously and don’t waste your cds.

I’m running GS Axe/Shield and having trouble with 1v2s as well unless I down one fairly quickly (block for reflects, Rush, whirlwind, switch to axe, bait out a few dodges, shield 4, evis is usually enough to get some of the worse players, but you’ll just have to practice..
