maybe in WVW they should just get rid of needing any hero points and let players start with a maxed out character (similar to regular PVP)

I am not a WVW player though and Im absolutely fine with needing some time to fully unlock the elite.

Not sure how they have missed their target market so badly in this expansion. GW2 was advertised as “grind free”, they even said it themselves, they HATE grinding. Yet they release this.. Baffling

They missed it because as far as I know they never asked us. We were all led to assume from when videos were first released about elites that it was a core enticement to buy the game. Who could have imagined this nutty elite gate which makes you play through the content of hot b4 you can unlock the elite for Hot.

In betas we were given immediate access to elites and no access to test the hero point system.

We weren’t told how hero points would work until only few days before and even then most were expecting something close to what we already had. Not walls within walls.

The lack of information on this essential selling point of the game was withheld and now many many people are feeling betrayed , and that this isn’t what they thought they were buying.

BUT we are getting immediate access to elite specializations! Only not to maxed out ones. Just don´t see where the problem is with needing some time to maxing it out. That´s just part of the progression plan and I believe it is working as intended.

Hey I would also like to play with people. Playing alone is kinda sad. :-P

I am 26 years old and it would be nice to have people that are roughly the same age (+-6 years)

It would be great if you could add me in-game and then we can share Skype details! :-)

See you in Tyria!

Got the latest Geforce driver installed (334.89) Maybe thats the problem because before that driver everything seemed just fine.

Hello there!

Normally I don’t experience any major fps issues in the game, but the LA (under attack!) zone is really unplayable for me (1-5 fps). Changing the graphic options didn´t help and I don´t experience these issues in other games.

My specs:
I5 3750k 3.40 GHZ
Geforce GTX 660
8GB Ram
Windows 8.1 Pro

Drivers up to date!

Do you have any idea what might be the problem here?

edit: Just realised that the problem usually occurs after about a minute of being in LA. Meaning FPS are just fine for a minute and then there is this extreme drop that won´t go away.

I absolutely loved the conversations in the LA instance, especially when some scholar recapitulated everything that has happened so far. For the very first time in the living story I now really want to find out about Scarlet’s motives and chase that lunatic (if she really is??) further.

Gameplay-wise I have only tried the marionette encounter yet which I thought was quite ok. Not a big fan of lag festivals though :-(

how to make home towns more practical!

It seems all people gather in Lion’s Arch although there is everything you need in the other cities as well (besides the Mystic Forge).
So today I decided to go to the Grove and do my crafting there because I am somewhat tired of overcrowded LA.
After my crafting I decided to travel to Timberline Falls and quickly found another reason why staying in LA is so much more convenient:
“LA lies pretty much in the centre of the map and therefore WP costs to most parts of Tyria are cheaper”

so why not make Waypoint Travelling all across Tyria cheaper when you travel from your home town?

Question: But what would stop people from sticking around in LA, just go to their hometown once their business in LA is done and then use the WP benefits?

—> That´s why we need some sort of buff that gets activated as soon as you have been staying in your hometowns for 2 minutes or so. it could look like this: “You feel rested! Waypoint travelling costs are 30% reduced.”

Feel free to discuss this topic! :-)

Please bring back the "crafting tooltips"

in Suggestions

Posted by: Harlekin.2981

Harlekin.2981

One thing I always loved about Guild Wars 2 was that you could easily see that an Item served as a crafting item because of the tooltip stating which crafting disciplines you could use it with.
Nowadays Anet doesn’t seem to care about that anymore because you don’t find these kind of tooltips on the newer items like watchwork sprockets and charged Quartz crystals.

It was a really nice feature, and I would be happy if you could implement it again.

You know what needs to disappear? The corruption in Orr.

While the Living Story evolves, Orr is frozen in time. Just doesn’t make any sense.

And how much sense would it make doing the personal story for new players if there are no Risen nor a corrupted Orr?

They need to to do what WoW did and have Phasing.

That is what truly would make this game’s atmosphere perfect. Phasing and the living story combined. But I guess implementing phasing means a hell of a lot of work. But who knows whether we will see it one day?

To those who don’t know what phasing is: When you get to an area and you free it from corruption, you then may see flowers bloom again and stuff like that. Other players who haven’t cleansed the corruption will of course not witness the flowers, birds and fresh water. i.e. they are in a different “phase”.

Why would ANET rig the election? They are the ones trying to collect data which character we want to see in the future.

It’s more about which fractal do we want to see in the future. Or are we so shallow that a WP discount can mesmerized us.

I don´t care about waypoints and I don´t care about fractals either. I only care about who I think would be a better captain. I´ll go with Kiel

I think it makes a lot of sense from ArenaNets perspective. I suppose far more people will read the facebook or twitter posts.
All of my friends who also play Guild Wars never even went to the forums but they are all Facebook followers.
So this way ArenaNet probably reaches far more people. Nevertheless, the information should be put here as well for all the people that don´t have Facebook or Twitter.

RAVE: Marjory’s Journal <3

RANT: Freaking hated weapon ticket RNG B.S. Stop with it already, I would have gladly spent quite a few dollars collecting a bunch of weapon skins, but instead we had this crap again. Not getting anymore money from me when it comes to this weapon ticket box SCAM. Just sell the weapon skins via gem store. Who ever came up with this RNG horror needs to be fired and someone else better put in that isn’t screwing the costumer base.

I guess no one really likes it but I am absolutely sure that Anet/NcSoft are making a hell of a lot of money this way. And why should they stop using this tactics for (probably a lot) less money?

Finally good writing!

I also think this has been the best storytelling in Guild Wars 2 so far.

There will always be people who don´t like it, like Xavori in this case…
But the fact that there´s so little negative criticism shows that ANet seems to be on the right way here.

Even if it increases to a point where it’s not possible to do in the respective month where is the point where you can say, happily: “Oh my after all my work I was able to finish these achievements. I can’t believe myself what I achieved!”

Although we have to say that the Dragon Bash achievements contain of almost only farm achievements. I really need this feeling to know “Okay, I completed all achievements, that’s great.” It’s the only motivation for me to do living story. I always get 100% of the achievements. If those achievements were to be infinite I could never reach the point where I say “Okay, now I’m happy with what I did. Let’s get back to the normal stuff.”.

I don´t think achievements should be infinite. I think it would be fine if one who COMPLETES all the achievements is rewarded with a weapon ticket. and the people who just “tick” the achievements, like cracking a Pinata or igniting an effigy, just get some little treat like a helmet or 5 extra laurels or so.

I agree with the OP. Have never seen so many content updates in such a short time after game release in a MMO.
The only thing that I have to criticize is that Anet should maybe wait put a longer time span between the updates so they can improve storytelling.
But overall I must say thumbs up and keep up the great work, guys!

On inconsistent and paradoxical game design

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Harlekin.2981

I couldn’t disagree with you more. You’re not thinking like a casual. There’s so much content in this game, that many casual players are overwhelmed by choice. It’s the hard core burn through everything players that REQUIRE end game.

Would you believe most people that played WoW didn’t play end game either. It’s a much smaller percentage of the playerbase than you think that craves end game. You happen to be one of the and it sucks for you, but for a lot of people, we’ve been waiting for a game without end game.

Absolutely correct! This game offers A LOT of content for the casual player. I have been playing since Pre-Release and still haven´t explored the whole world and only one of my chars is max-lv. I think ANet focuses on these kind of players with the game design and offers the lottery for hardcore players who want everything in order to finance the game.

never underestimate the dungeon elitists in this game.
even without a meter, they already kick people by the weapon used, class, utility used, gear skin or a downed.

and that´s exactly why we don´t need a meter. These people would only be multiplied.

Maybe one day ANet will manage to put in a raid-like experience without forcing people to grind so everyone´s happy. Till that happens, you might want to try other games or twink GW2.
