Its okay, i ran into a level 80 necro that had no idea that the bone minions explode and you can control when they do. He was like WTF. Now thats his favorite thing to do in WvW. Send them into groups and BOOM! (like 4k damage each)

[Guide] S/P for PvE

None taken, I am open for additions to it or alternative suggestions.

Maybe I am just too attached to Infiltrators Strike. =x And the Stun + high damage of Pistol Whip.

And the fact that as long as targets are close enough, pistol whips flurry of blades hits multiple targets.

The satisfaction of hitting like 20 people sieging your towers door. Stunning them all then seeing huge numbers hit them all then running back in is pretty satisfying.

Oh and FYI for those areas you gotta jump and be careful. Use Infiltrators strike, then jump, if you miss use it again to go back up.

Another patch another nerf:

I wonder if they will also fix the necros falling ability and add a cooldown to it. I hated those necros that abused that. (When you fall you put out a cloud of poisonus smoke with a pretty large aoe) in WvW towers they just jump down off the side and poof, then run back up and jump down again, poof. The cloud lasts a while and its damage stacks. I cant count how many times i run into a cloud thats actually like 4-5 clouds hitting like 4-5 times a second (around 800ish damage per hit)

[Guide] S/P for PvE

in Thief

Yea I know it sounds kind of dumb, but I am able to PvE Rather easily with S/P. (For new thief players)

Sword – Main Hand (LoL like we can use it in off hand prays)
Pistol – Off Hand

Skills:
Primary Attack
- Slice Slice your foe.
- Slash Slash your foe again.
- Crippling Strike Cripple your foe with a final strike.

Stealth Primary Attack
- Tactical Strike Blind your foe by bashing them with your sword hilt. Daze them instead if you attack from behind.

Secondary Attack:

- Infiltrator’s Strike Shadowstep to a foe and strike them. (Also Immobalizeds them for 1 second Amazing for interrupts) Use Shadow Strike again to Return to shadowstep back and cure one condition.

Dual Wield Attack: (Third Attack)
- Pistol Whip Pistol-whip your foe, stunning them for 1 second, then slash repeatedly with your sword.

Fourth Skill
- Headshot Daze your foe with a head shot. (Ranged Attack that slows)

Fifth Skill

- Black Powder Fire a black powder shot, blinding nearby foes with the smoke cloud.

Basic Gameplay:

Make sure your opponents are a type of melee / physical ranged class.

Get up in their face and stay there.

Use Black powder and try to keep it down whenever its ready. ( puts a cloud of smoke down that makes them blind over and over again (Not just 1 miss) As long as they are in range of it.

Do regular attacks and when black powder just runs out. Pistol whip them and watch HUGE numbers go up. (You can spec or use abilities to increase this damage.)

Keep dropping black powder when its out.

As long as you are within range of melee chars, (Or up in ranged chars face) this will make your battle without you taking any damage if not a very low amount.

What I like to do against a single mob.

1. Start off cloaked and open with Tactical Strike (Dazed From Behind or Blind really… doesnt matter)
2. Get a few regular hits in.
3. Activate damage signet (150% damage) and Pistol Whip Stunning it and doing really nice damage.
4. Black Powder and continue regular hits.
5. Pistol Whip

Usually mobs dead before the 2nd pistol whip.

In a group of mobs, just make sure you position yourself in the middle of them and use gun powder a lot. (Pistol whip hits MULTIPLE opponents as well as stunning them all as well)

All in all its the perfect cripping/immobilizing/stun build with a REALLY nice single damage skill.

The thing most people dont realize from me playing this is that Black Powder will constantly blind the mob over and over instead of just once for its duration. (They tend to use it as if it only works for 1 hit and run.)

I know this guide is missing a lot, but its what really worked well for me leveling up and killing everything solo without taking much damage at all. (I noticed that I was still wearing level 10-18 gear at 35+ (Aside from story quest rewards) when I didnt follow my blind/stun combo on a single easy mob and it hit me like a truck. hehe.

Any feedback/comments welcome!

From my testing of that arrow, it can only let you go up as high as you could if you jumped. IF its higher it doest work. (Would be used to ninja castles and such in WvW)

WvW Illusion Backdoor Question

in Players Helping Players

I noticed that in the past few WvW games that there are some mesmers that can control their clones that actually do damage. (Or so it seems)

Ill paint a picture.

I was behind a gate in our tower by the supplies location. (It was being attacked by an opposing world)
I alt tabbed to take a look at a few things on the guild wars wiki. (How to get the secret treasure that the tutorial was talking about)

Came back and I was dead.. Not sure how that happened since I didnt think anything could hit me or even reach me. Figured maybe a catapult or something hit me luckily. (yea I didnt think to check combat logs)

Ran back to tower. (Was close to spawn) and managed to get back inside again. I didnt alt tab this time and after a few seconds. I saw 2 illusions headed towards me. They went through the gate and came charging at me. The sword one and the one with the ranged staff.

The guards did nothing to them and they were hitting me for around 1-2k each hit. I died.

Checked my battle log and saw that I died the same way last time.

On the 3rd time going back to the tower, I saved my stealth (Used it to get in the tower originally) and ran into tower. And of course the 2 illusions came after me again. I cloaked by the supplies and they ran towards the main gate and started attacking it.

As soon as I uncloaked they stopped attacking gate and started attacking me again. I was like WTF. Turned around and killed them both barely, only to find 2 more of them appearing inside and charging me. Dead

Those things hit like trucks and had so much HP. And were smart.

Anyone able to tell me if that is actual game mechanics or if that was some sort of exploit?

You can always do the hide from behind gate cheeze spec counting on your aoe spells that use power to hit all the melee and siege weapons from behind the gate.

(Not sure if this is abuse because you pretty get get owned if you stay in front of gate longer than a few seconds because their aoes hit you too.)

How:

Sit by gate entrace (On safe side… well sorta safe side)
Use staff and cast the skills on the door (Circle is half on door half on ground) hits all the melee. Especially the fear one that makes them run towards the door for some reason as soon as the oil spills forcing them to stay under it for like 2 secs longer.

Then use shroud on every cd which goes through door and hits them all healing yourself and everyone around you including above you (where they are manning oil and casting aoes down)

Also the AoE one that hits them causing vuln (Cast on yourself forget the skill name) and the AoE one that turns their boons into negative effects AoE one that that is casted on you as well.

Both go through the gate and hit the melee as well as any siege weapons there.

Thats what me and 2 of my friends did which pretty much got us a few kills from behind the gate. Hehe

Underwater combat with a Necro.

IOno, i only go in water to farm things.

Necro is good at AoE Farming with Trident/Spear Combo

Trident Starter with First AoE. (Skill 1)
Follow Up with Long Casting Ice AoE (Pretty good damage) (Skill 5)
Switch with ~
Use 2nd skill that leeches life aoe
Use 1st Skill that does aoe spin
Use 4th skill that aoe pulls them to you
Switch with ~
Finish them off with starting combo (By 2nd ice usually everythings dead if not sooner)

But yea I agree 1 v 1 we suck. So i stick to underwater events where we can just get tons of exp/drops from our aoes hitting everything. LoL

Guess you forgot about that signet that takes all conditions that would go on allies.

Even if it works, the CD is still higher than the Mesmer’s Null Field and it’s not a gtae.

Almost everything you mentioned can be done more effective by the Mesmer, so why again should we pick a Necro for tPvP?

The signet takes 100% conditions at all time, no CD unless you use the active.

Yes, it takes the conditions but it currently doesn’t remove them from your allies. So, it doesn’t really work the way it should.

Oh crap I didnt know it didnt take those conditions off allies. :/ I been sitting below the gates in WvW thinking i was taking all my allies conditions off them and running out spreading it and running back in, Get more of their conditions, feast till spread cooldown, rinse and repeat. Thought i was actually helping them. But im not? o.O That sucks

Magic Find % Question (Max 111%)

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: HiloBoyS.7324

HiloBoyS.7324

Lets say I get every buff to increase my magic find to 111%:

Armor x6 = 18% MF
Weapon x25 Stacks = 15% MF
Gemshop Buff = 50% MF
Cooking Skill 400 Food = 28% MF

Total = 111% Magic Find

Does this mean that every drop will give me a better item than it normally would?
Does this mean that I would get a better drop and an additional item?

Is there a cap to Magic Find?

How exactly does this mechanic work?

If anyone could fill me in on this, that would be great!
