Hi all,

I’ve been away from the game for about a year now and was just wondering of my system specs will still hold up in the game. Back then, I was able to pull a constant 30 fps on max settings in any environment even wvw (which is terrible IMO – 30 fps is sad).

My specs: 295gtx, i7 920 @ 3.6ghz
6gb ddr3

Dont feel bad man. This literally happened to all of us. We are just waiting it out. I just hope some older systems running the first gen i7 are optimized in the future patch as well as newer CPUs. We’ll have to wait and see, but in the mean time, why don’t you cap your fps at 30. This way, you won’t have to deal with smooth fps to a lesser one. That’s what I did anyway…although I never dropped below 30 fps in this game besides in LA.

Does it even matter what we think anymore?

Anet has yet to make any changes to the necro, only minor stupid ones that no one even notices. Not only that but unless Anet has some knowledge dmbs with extreme amounts of data, then I doubt they are actually listing our concerns.

I feel like posting in the necro forum has less of an impact than voting in yesterday’s presidential election. No matter what we say they won’t listen.

I use a cooler master v8 on my i7 920 and I got it to 3.6ghz @ ~40C idle and 51C on full load.

How can there be a CPU bottleneck?
-None of our CPUs are running at 100%
-You all keep saying “the cpu is being maxed out at 25% because it separates it on 4 cores”. This would make sense, although most of us running on i7’s have HT enabled, making that 8 cores instead of 4, so the CPU can’t possibly be maxed out.
-There’s a difference between a bottleneck and this game only using 2-3 threads. If 2-3 threads of your CPU are being maxed out and your other 5 cores aren’t being touched then it is an issue with the game’s engine, not your CPU! A CPU is only bottlenecked when it’s at full load, which is apparently impossible in this game.
-Run prime 95 on your Quad Core CPUs. You’ll notice that all of your CPU cores go up to 100% – not 25%. That immediately proves your whole theory of 4 cores/100%= 25%/core wrong.

Kirito, you’re just giving everyone on here a huge reason to waste money on a new system. Granted, if your system is sub-par then yes, that is understandable, but it you’re just running around saying CPU bottleneck.

I never drop below 30 fps EVER. even in WvW. I just hate anything below 60. If my system performs ok in this game and someone with 2x 680 and a top of the line i7 can barely pull 30 fps then this game is broke.

And Kirito, please kitten A bottleneck only occurs when your cpu is generations behind your gpu and even if that, a simple oc will destroy the bottleneck. It seems like the answer to all the questions you are answering is “THE CPU R A BAWTLENECK, PLZ C MAI THREAD.” This game is broken.

I lost all hope for solid performance in this game. I mean I would run on low settings of it would give me 60 fps constant, but it just stays at ~50 regardless if I have settings on max or low. It’s not a bottleneck.

I still play the game a lot but the performance issues are really annoying

I had this game since open beta and probably played with the graphics settings more than I actually played the game. I mean 30 fps isnt bad, it’s just that it gets me really dizzy and within 5 minutes I can’t stand it anymore. I have vsync on so that’s why it does it.

On a side note, I maxed the game out and never drop below 30 fps even in wvw. That’s good and all but I get really sick

I’m going to purchase a 680 on cyber Monday off of newegg. That should alleviate my fps drops and give me a constant 60. Ive already done a lot of researching on 680 + i7 920 3.6ghz and everyone said i shouldn’t have a bottle neck. My i7 is performing well; evn though it’s old it’s very powerful and is barely at 25% usage with ht on.

For the most part, I get a constant 60 fps. The only places are drop are LA, WvW, and Cursed shore. The thing is that these drops are very bad. They get as low as 30 fps.

Does this seem right?

Cities 40-60 la is really the only city I lag in

Wvw capped fps at 30 and never drops below it

Technically, GW 2 is not single threaded. It has quite a few threads actually. Only a handful seem to be performance crtitical though.

It pulls mostly from one thread. It’s single threaded.

This is clearly a bump. Fps is still bad.

Over clocking your CPU will give you a mediocre performance boost in GW2.

GW2 is single threaded, and yes, even though it does use a small percentage of your other cores it still mainly draws its resources from one core. If you OC, you will only notice this difference in a single core, not all the cores/threads in your CPU. OCing could also give you unwanted heat and more stress on the CPU, something that for me doesn’t provide a big enough incentive in GW2.

I have an i7 920 @ 3.6 ghz. When GW2.exe was launched, I opened up task manager and set the affinity for gw2. I tested out different cores and jotted down my FPS. It turned out that GW2, when running on only 2 threads of my i7, had the same performance when running on all 8 of my threads.

GW2 is having an extremely large amount of trouble utilizing our CPU’s atm. I thought single-threaded games ended years ago, but I guess this is the cr@p you have to put up with when the developers decided to be lazy and develop off of the GW1 engine.

The fact that you have that old of a system and getting 20-30 fps surprises me. I had that card 7 years ago and it was a beast.

Most people on these tech forums are running this game at 10 fps on the lowest possible settings while you’re pulling those frames on an extremely old card.

Your frames seem appropriate. I would be happy.

Don’t Question how I spend my money. I’m an it manager at Cigna health care and maintain a pretty hefty income. I also use my 690s for an intense amount of graphic work and my processor for Intense coding, so thank you to all the computer gurus out there saying I wasted my money.

I just upgraded my 295 gtx to 690’s in SLI.

I lost performance… I went from a constant 60 fps on medium settings to a constant 30 fps on low settings. WTF is that kitten?

I have the best intel cpu money could buy, so it’s not a bottleneck.

Spent 1000$ in upgrades and lost kittening performance. kitten. I’m getting over 200 fps in BF3 and the witcher but in gw2 I get 30 fps? fix your kitten client, anet.

A lot for people are having trouble with 5xx series cards. It’s the game not your system. If you haven’t noticed, there is a 1400 post thread floating around on. Here regarding fps. Anet just isn’t addressing any of these issues. You’re just going to have to wait for a fix like the rest of us.

This game is broke. It has no linear fps curve. It doesn’t matter how much you try to make the game look as kitteny as possible, your fps will remain constant or change very little. It’s the games fault.

Just a quickittentle rant here:

For some odd reason, I’m able to pull 60 fps on my 4 year old system; I’m not complaining about that at all, but it does confuse me since people with high-end systems are getting 30 fps average on low settings. However, the problem I am having here is the random fps drops that I get just from walking into a certain area. I’ve been seeing these random fps drops throughout the whole game (I’m level 80) and I was able to just ignore them, but now I’ve had enough of it. I could be in the most graphically demanding area on high-ultra settings and be pulling a constant 60 fps, but if I go into a less demanding area, or what seems like a less demanding area, my fps drops all the way to 30 making it very unplayable (30 fps with vysnc capped @ 60 fps creates stuttering).

What I find very odd about this is my GPU and CPU usage. When I’m pulling 60 fps, my gpu usage ranges from 20-30% and my cpu usage stays at 20% all the time, however, as soon as I step into these random fps areas, my gpu usage spikes up to 100% and my cpu usage just stays at 20%! This really puzzles me. I mean, if my gpu usage is at 100% you would think that it would still give me 60 fps, but instead it just drops to 30 and my cpu usage stays the same.

Here is my 4 year old beast:

My cpu is HT enabled, so it’s functioning as 8 logical cores instead of 4. I also disabled core parking, so all of my threads are now working to power this game, but that gave me no improvement in fps.

Could anyone shine some light on this issue? I doubt this could be resolved because I’ve tried every possible solution, but I would just like some reassurance that it is not my system.

I’m guessing you think that 30 fps is good. Well, you can enjoy that terrible fps while me and my 4 year old system are enjoying a constant 60 fps in every single area besides WvW maxed out and playing in HD on a 25" monitor.

This game is broke. I haven’t stopped playing completely, but I have been playing much less due to bugs and the terrible state of the necro class.

Getting a constant 50 fps in PvE. Huge cities I get ~40.

I built my system 4 years ago.

295 gtx usage is at 30%
i7 920 usage is at 20% -_-

This game was terribly made and I accepted this fact long ago.

Or you could just set your computer to maximum performance in the control panel…

Averaging 60 fps capped on Max setting. Occasionaly get random fps drops looking at certain areas but I think it’s the game.

I created a charr necro thinking it was going to be so godkittenawesome. I seriously thought the armor would be unparalleled with any other class and actually, who doesn’t like a cat summoning dead things.

Unfortunately, I was dead wrong. Necros alone are terrible and have a huge lack of build work. The charr necros are even morekittenthan any other necro race! They wear skirtskitten#8230; all the armor on them looks completely stupid. I’m already level 80 so I really don’t feel like re rolling another necro race, but honestly…what was anet thinking?

Does anyone else think the charr necro lookskittenor is it just me?

295 GTX running at ~30% usage. When my fps drops my usage spikes up to 100% but my fps still stays very low.

i7 920 OCed 3.6 ghz – This runs at ~25% usage average. I noticed that my first core runs ~70% usage while the other 3 cores run at ~20%

6 gbddr3 – 50% usage when the game is launched.

I could play the game on max settings and get around 50-60 fps in PvE with the occasional random fps drops. I choose to play on med-high settings just so I don’t stress my system to much (system is 4 years old).

What I find really odd is the random fps drops I’ve been getting by moving my screen. for example, if I’m at the highest point in the map viewing everything around me my fps is a constant 60. If im at a less graphically intense area, my fps will drop to ~40 (with vsync enabled anything below your monitors refresh rate is choppy). Sometimes I’ll be walking around exploring and all of sudden BOOM 40 fps – I move my screen and my fps shoots back up to 60. I don’t understand why the game does this.

I haven’t really tried WvW that much. I’ve joined 2 games in it my fps went ranges from 30 fps in huge 100+ battles to 60 fps in ~20 men battles. Adjusting my graphical settings does nothing to my fps in WvW.

Just wondering how your SLI configurations are working out for you. I have a 295 gtx. A 295 functions as two gpus in one, so I also run the game in SLI. Even though both of my gpus in my 295 are “working” there is barely any difference when SLI is enabled or disabled in this game when it comes to my FPS. With SLI enabled i have around 50 on high settings aside from PvP and tasking pve areas. With SLI disabled (only running on one GPU) my fps is ~40.

This really makes no sense. Makes me wonder how this game is handling my gpu. No, it is not my system so don’t start spamming me with that.

With the same logic, if people see others having the issue and posting about it, they won’t do it themselves, but maybe keep track of the thread and so on.
Without proper and independent statistics you CAN NOT tell how big a number of players have certain issues or not.

Have you taken a look at the countless fps threads there are on this forums…not to mention the 1000 posts in each thread?

Also, you have to take into consideration that there are people playing at an extremely low FPS but aren’t posting on the forums because they either a) don’t know the forum exists or b) they don’t care about their terrible performance.

Earlier yesterday, I was looking around the Black Citadel and asking people to read me their fps…

I asked 57 people about their FPS in the black citadel. Guess what their fps averaged: 34 FPS. Guess what they ALL told me: that 34 FPS is good.

That’s proof that there are countless others getting extremely low fps. they just aren’t spamming the forums like we are.

Anet is a joke to me now and these “community moderators” need to do something else with their Art History degrees.

Have you ever ran the prime cpu test? well…I just did and I always do it to stabilize my CPU clocks. When I run it my CPU goes up to 100% and on all 8 threads the graph is at 100%

Depending on how much you know about overclocking, that might be a good idea. There’s a lot more to getting a good, stable OC than just changing the clock multiplier. You have to adjust core voltages, memory timing, etc etc etc. If all you did was change the clock, then putting it back might help get your system back in sync with itself, which could clear up some bottlenecks. It’s not a guarantee, though.

If you want to try for higher framerates, first try turning off some of the graphics options that tax your computer. Things like Shadows, Anti-aliasing, Shaders, Reflections can have a huge impact on FPS. Start with setting those to off or low and see what happens. Then adjust them up to see what gives you the picture quality you want with an acceptable framerate.

I’ve pretty much all the ins and outs of optimizing this game. I set all settings to low…9-10 fps increase. Set all the settings to max 9-10 fps decrease. I feel as though it makes no difference whether I run this max or low…Its always low 50’s high 40’s. I’m not really worried about my fps exactly, but my cpu usage. 16%? that’s ridiculous for a game that’s a “cpu hog”.

I have an i7 920 @2.7 GHz, and depending on what’s happening in GW2, my CPU usage can range from 11% to 35%, and my framerate is a pretty solid 60 (with vsync on). I have an ATI 6870 graphics card and run at 1920×1080.

I don’t think it’s your CPU that’s letting you down.

Do you think I should reset it back it back to factory settings? Maybe GW isn’t reading my clock right?

Look at the picture enclosed. That basically is “nuff said” right there but I’ll elaborate.

GW2 is only using up 16% of my cpu….and I have an i7 920 @ 3.6 ghz.
Not only is it using less cpu % than my basic system defrag tools, but it’s also leaving me at crappy fps!!! not to mention the resolution is so small.

What gives here??!!? This doesn’t seem right at all and it’s very annoying.

Can someone please tell me if they are having similar issues?

People never see the business side of things (I’m a business owner myself). The staff are working around the clock on this game, even on weekend. The amount of effort it takes to keep everything smooth and operational in phenomenal between the programmers, support reps, server maintenance, etc.

Remember, you are not their only customer and they can’t reply to every support ticket. There are over 2 million players and growing by the thousands every hour. So sit back and enjoy the ride – they’re working on it.

I do agree with you, however, from a customer service point of view, this has really been a terrible experience. I mean, they have been gathering information about our systems since pre-release of beta. I remember that in order to buy the beta, Anet had to scan your system to be sent back into their database. Anet has all this information – relaying it to the programmers and then relaying their advances to us is the problem here.

Isn’t this supposed to be an issue with the GAME? There have been a lot of players experiencing slow game performance, and quite honestly, I wouldn’t call that an isolated issue.

It’s obviously something wrong with the game, seeing as these players can’t even run the game properly with all settings set to low. Myself included.

Please address this ordeal and tell us what ANET is doing to fix the problem. Just give us something, please.
