Well yes, but I was asking about the recipe remaining active. I’m working with the assumption that it will be, but from my memory of the live stream, (aka unreliable) it was mentioned that players would have to put in considerable effort to unlock the skin during Halloween.

So if that is just referencing the 4 tattered bat wings and the Endless Batwing Brew, then I’m happy as a clam. If it includes the recipe in the forge only works for the next week, I’ll be a sad panda.

Not all weapon skins unlocked (wardrobe) are unlocking the respective collection entries. (i.e. I have mace and torch in bank, and the skins unlocked, but they aren’t ‘collected’ yet) Haven’t restarted client since patch 1hr before release.

We’ve got low-priority plans to offer an API endpoint for it, just for consistency’s sake. That way if the timers do ever change in content there’s an always-up-to-date version in a consistent spot providing machine-readable values.

Low, LOW priority though.

Completely out of curiosity here, but will the priority change after we start using the map-wide rewards system across central Tyria? (because completing events is a huge part of that)

Obviously with mega-servers there are challenges here that make the effort-to-value ratio not as enticing as it once was.

Not trying to push for it, but I am curious.

I think I should point something out: The game is not down. We’re not having a game outage here. It’s true that some players are not able to join, but the game is still accessible — I’m in it now. It is, for some players, not available, that’s true. And we regret that very much.

Anyway, while I appreciate people pointing out we’ve had very little down time in our history, and that’s very true, this isn’t down time, in the true definition of the word. Just had to say.

Just wanted to come in and say thanks for all of the hard work that you all are doing over there. I’m sure this isn’t how the team wanted to be spending their evenings… And I hope you can resolve it soon for your own sake as well as for those affected.

No one likes being stuck at the office 10 PM trying to fix something on implementation day… been there, done that, it’s no fun. Good luck and I (among others) really do appreciate the hard work going into fixing this!

Hello!

I was hoping that someone in here may have Gift of Weather unlocked and can verify the recipe for me. (Please don’t buy and use one just because I’m asking).

What I want to verify is that it uses 250 Hardened Leather Sections instead of 250 Cured Hardened Leather Squares. Currently the wiki and gw2Legends both claim sections, but every other Gift recipe that uses hardened leather uses the squares.

If you have it unlocked and are willing, please provide a screenshot of the recipe (because anyone can say yes or no)

1. Ele has the lowest armour and hp, hence why it can’t take as many hits as a warrior for example. It has lots of healing, yes and can have access to protection, but that doesn’t change the fact that by default ele cannot facetank damage. Ele doesn’t have as many ways to get away as for example thief. There is a difference between having the lowest hp and having the lowest hp AND armour.

2. That is not true again, because ele has its condi removal in attunements. Obviously d/d ele has removal on catrips, too but those are long cd’s and I don’t think it’s great that the class will be forced into one utility type again.

3. Have you played ele? Most of the time you’ll have water and earth on cooldown during a fight, because you want to gain their benefits from those. You don’t want to spend lots time in water and earth, because the benefits activate on attuning to them, eventually dodging in them. Even if you have water on a few seconds cooldown and then get chilled, it can be pretty deadly.

It might not be such a problem for a d/d ele, but then again can ele really not have a different spec viable? It’s not okay it’s the only class that gets affected by chill so much. Everyone who plays it knows how difficult it can be to deal with chill and ele shouldn’t be forced to play certain stuff just to deal with one condition under a flawed design.

1. I don’t deny what you are saying here, what I deny is that it is a valid reason to say chill needs to be nerfed on how it affects eles.

2. While I also don’t agree with anything forcing a class into a certain build, this still assumes that you have someone semi-dedicating the use of chill on you, or that they have a build that focuses on using chill. Which once again, most classes can’t keep chill sustained at all.

3. Yes, I have played ele. Yes those are on cd more than anything else, I was talking averages, and if you are chilled and lost just a bit of your cd speed then either auto-attack or leave/reposition yourself.

All of the points that you have brought up are technically correct, but are being exaggerated in their effectiveness/viability, imo. Mountain out of a Molehill sort of thing.

But ele’s do have twice as many skills to use, so unless they are using primarily 2 attunements only during chill duration, it doesn’t have much of an impact. But maybe I’m wrong here…

Chill is one of the worst conditions for ele, because:

1. It affects your movement speed, which is pretty bad for a class that has lower hp and armour and cannot really just eat all the damage
2. Ele cannot cleanse chill if he’s currently in a different attunement that doesn’t provide chill.
3. Ele moves through attunement the whole duration of a fight, chill will affect the cooldown of all attunements, hence ele might find himself to be stuck in one.
4. Ele has already long cooldowns to balance the access to more skills than usually.

So yes, ele is affected by chill the most.

1. Does not apply here because movement affects all classes, the same logic would imply a need of reduction in cripple and immob effects on low HP pool classes

2. If this is a problem then a) too susceptible to conditions and should avoid condi classes at all costs or b) may be wasting valuable condi cleanses

3. Ok time for some math.

If an ele is untraited (shorter cd/fresh air) for attunement recharge, and has absolutely no chill on and we assume constant attunement swapping, then the elementalist will have an average of 3.25 seconds in each attunement and for which 1.625 seconds the ele can’t swap attunements. This means that if the elementalist was chilled for 39 seconds straight with no cleanses or chaining a chill after a cleanse, then they must spend 9.75 seconds in each attunement in which 4.875 seconds the ele can’t swap. So if perma-chill were a viable build option, then I can see cause for concern.

However, if an elementalist leaves themselves in a position where they can be chilled for 39 seconds straight without cleansing it, then either 1) they need to rethink their build because there is an obvious condition susceptibility, 2) rethink their playstyle with the current build, i.e. avoid condi pressure or don’t fight a prolonged fight with a necro/engi, or 3) consider bringing some extra condi cleanse through a utility if you feel that you have all-da-chills-all-da-time.

4) I agree with this, but once again, for chill to be a problem with cooldowns, it has to be sustained chill application. Normally cooldowns are the least of your concern while chilled because you lose most of your mobiliy which is one of the best sources of surviving through peeling.

All of this to say, meh, I think chill is really mostly about movement hinderance with the added effect of slowing down recharge rates for the duration of the chill (because rates return to normal once chill is removed)

What I find most amusing about your post is when you boil down your suggestion, it amounts to spreading out the reward for completing a dungeon throughout the dungeon itself (i.e. Adding the gold to chests/bosses/etc and removing the 1-3G end gold)

The reason I find this amusing is because it used to be spread out this way. Bosses and chests used to have that end gold that you got an it was affected by gold find %. The best part is, they changed it to the current system because players said that dungeons didn’t feel rewarding and so the response was to move the gold all to the end and increase it a bit. So what I’m reading is a more complicated way to revert the rewards system back to how it use to be.

I hate to say it, but I’m not sure that this will get too much traction without very compelling reasoning and large enough support from the player base as a whole.

I was just reminded of something that Jagex implemented for Runescape. They added a pin number to player bank accounts and wallet. This prevented player access (usually to MOST of thier wealth) without knowing the pin.

4 digit number, digits randomly placed among the key pad for each press, after multiple failures, there is a lockout duration that increases for each subsequent failed attempt. Pin was optional but recommended for all players.

TBH it wasn’t a bad system and saved over 80% of my wealth the one time that my account was accessed by an authenitcated, unauthorized 3rd party. I was definitely very happy that I had it set up.

Tl;dr: Could we have Bank-gold-purse back OR limit guild bank withdraws after the withdraw transaction is greater than the amount deposited by the player?

So I realize that this change is going to happen whether we like it or not (I like the intentions, for sure!), but I have some constructive suggestions to aid those who work best with maintaining in game capital via out-of-sight-out-of-mind.

Bank Vault: concept is similar (or the same) to how the money was originally stored in a bank, just having a small number where a player can deposit or withdraw from at leisure when visiting a bank.

Ability to go negative on the limit: for every 1g sent/stored in the bank increases the limit.

Now I realize the first idea has already been discussed here and probably talked about among the dev team, but generally adding the ability to send gold currency into some sort of tuck-away space in the bank would still be a nice-to-have feature.

The second idea, core concept is say that I regularly use a guild bank to help myself save money (or even a regular guild bank to store gold for raffles or w/e the need). If I store gold in 50g increments up to 700, I feel that I should be able to access up to that 700 amount (personally) from that specific guild bank. Or even 500+700 if the coding would be simplified this way.

This would still make a compromised account S.O.L. if they deposited their gold into a guild bank because that gold is not protected. It would, however, enable individuals to use the guild banks as they have been (replacement of the gold storage on other characters/in the bank) and guilds that do raffles could coordinate by sending ticket purchases to a coordinator for the raffle.

Just some ideas from someone who has deposited 4kg to guild banks so that they wouldn’t spend it until the time was right. >.>

3) Be better about surviving? What class are you having difficulty with? What build? What gear? It might make perfect sense that you die super fast in downed state

As a ranger I can tank some bosses while in downed state because of my bear…

Our guild noticed today while running a the guild rush Ghost Wolf Run that the meta event “Protect Fen as he makes his way into the kittenattler Caverns” NPC, Fen, will attack players in the wolf form. I’m pretty sure that this is a bug since it is normally a friendly NPC.

Final Rest - Current Theories

Here is my theory, take it for what it’s worth:

My girlfriend asked me about a defend event for the Temple of Blathazar and so I looked on the wiki to see if one existed. What I found was this:

“After gaining the temple, it remains friendly for several hours (2-4 hours estimated) after which an event spawns to defend it. If successful, it will remain open for about one more hour after which a much more difficult defend event triggers – with victory conditions such that failure is essentially certain.”

So my theory is that since temples are rarely defended and tend to just flip because so few stay behind that the events could be considered “rare.” At the very least the second event that is allegedly after the first defend of temple of balthazar would most definitely be a rare boss. And what would a rare event “with victory conditions such that failure is essentially certain” be rewarded with? My guess, the largest chest in the game. Larger than the map boss events. I doubt that the map boss events would be considered for such a rare weapon simply because they happen too often to really be considered rare bosses. (but I guess you could try to make the case as such)

On a side note, I am currently working on planning to trigger this event with my guild Warlords Of The Mists (MisT) on Yak’s Bend server. I can’t speak for the guild, but I am trying to organize an event for us to defend the temple.

I like the idea of a breath bar for the purposes for an underwater jumping puzzle where you need to find an air source in order to survive.

I also get the whole immersion thing for underwater with having a breath bar, but is this really a necessity? What would this feature actually /add/ to the game besides dying once in awhile underwater?

They did have a good trade system in GW1 that worked well and was pretty hard to cheat people with.

I just found this out recently because I just started playing GW1 and I feel that trade system is quite effective. But yes, I agree a short term change would be nice until such a system could be put in place.

Harder jumping puzzle

I really like the idea of a difficult jumping puzzle that is also a race. Entrance fee and whoever gets first, second, and third gets various cuts of the entrance fee total (minus what would be used to filter gold out of the economy of course)

Would be quite fun in my opinion (for people who really enjoy the jumping puzzles)

And I think the only achiev(s) necessary for this jumping puzzle would be to get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. (where if you get first then obv. you get the 2nd and 3rd at the as well) Maybe even integrate this to a jumping puzzle master title for completing all jumping puzzles and getting 1st on the race one.

I’d also recommend that this puzzle would be done similar to the wintersday one in that no skills can be used and everyone has the same movement speed. To keep the race fair for all.

I always wondered why they never bothered for a direct trading system as well… it would solve this problem in a heartbeat and could easily be used in the beginning of a dungeon. Add it to the right click on a portrait option list. Simple enough. Having that AND mail tends to be nice and fluid.

Spoiler Alert, I’m not an economist.

Not to go off on a random tangent or de-rail the current conversation, but I’d like to put in my thoughts on what could/should be done on the conversion situation.

First of all the fundamental aspects of these trades need to be understood:

1) Anet needs to make money off of the gem store
2) Players need to feel that they directly and substantially benefit from the gem store
3) Gems should be able to be exchanged for gold at prices that players agree on both ways
4) Anet needs to funnel currency out of the system in order to prevent hyperinflation

So, the current system exists such that players may purchase gems directly from Anet. Players also (against the rules of course) have means to purchase gold without going through the GS. Anet put into place a system where a player may be able to purchase gems with gold so that players need not feel obligated to pay real world money for in game content (i.e. what WoW and RS do). Anet also made sure that their game is not pay-to-win (via the GS at least). Some things are currently out of Anet’s complete control (gold farming) but that isn’t to say that there is not an ongoing effort to control that issue.

With the release of the Halloween update we have seen a massive increase in the purchase of gems for gold as many players excitedly rushed for Halloween goodies and Black Lion Chest Keys. This could easily have been anticipated by every player who would have taken the time to consider the situation. (Also, notice how some other prices of valuable items have gone down I expect to make a pretty penny after H’Ween is over) Once the event is over we can most probably expect to see the Gem market settle down a bit more and maybe even become somewhat stable again. (Maybe)

So, it has been brought up that Anet should allow us as players to offer our own prices for Gems to one another. Basically turn Gems into another itemized currency that sits in one’s inventory. Sure that sounds all fine and dandy, but Anet still wants their slice. In the current state on each transaction Anet takes a ‘cut’, if you will, of the transaction. This is not a faulty transaction rate, but rather a way for them to siphon currency out of the system for what they expected to be a high volume market.

The issue that remains for this suggestion where players purchase the Gems from one another is where do the Gems start to come from? Do you all really think that we should only buy Gems from other players? Don’t you see the fatal flaw in that market? There will become a point where anyone who is willing to spend x dollars will have guaranteed gold as base offers. Obviously that sounds pretty attractive if you are the seller, but if you are the buyer then it begins to spark desperation. (Yes, I realize that I am extrapolating an extreme case, but play along nicely, will you?) Once such a system where players may trade one another for gems and purchase from Anet via real world currency we introduce much more exclusivity to those who have gold/real world money and are willing to spend a lot of it on the GS or getting gold from players who wish to use the GS.

There is still much that is desired to be said by my above statements, but I’d rather just move on for now. I may come back and post later. A conclusion to my ramble would be nice…
