So, a while later and I’ve done everything hardware-wise to resolve this issue.

• I replaced my motherboard which was causing a buttload of other problems for my PC.
• I replaced the PSU.
• I reapplied a fresh coat of thermal paste.
• I reinstalled HWMonitor.

So, for the first month or so, Guild Wars 2 ran perfectly fine. Only now is it starting to flare up again. Keep in mind that this is with an entirely revamped setup that has ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to short circuit at all due to overheating or what have you. I am 110% convinced that this is no longer a hardware issue.

I have loaded it up as I normally do (with a few other programs running) and it has fizzed out my monitors and become unresponsive; the only way I can resolve it is to hold down the power button and boot up again. I’ve ALSO done this the SECOND I started up again. No programs running, JUST Guild Wars 2 – and I get the exact same problem: a hard crash 5 seconds into the game.

Once again, I am unable to play the game for even a breath or two and I have tried literally every solution that has been suggested here.

I don’t think people are getting what I’m saying. I know for a FACT it has nothing to do with my power supply as it comfortably supplies power for games like Skyrim and other higher demanding games. ONLY in Guild Wars 2 does it give me this level of resistance. It’s the third time I’ll say it: I’ve been monitoring temperatures constantly and nothing points to overheating or a failed power supply. No voltage spikes, no temperature spikes, no nothing. It has previously worked with Guild Wars 2 up until about a few days ago (when I believe a new patch came out).

As for Madara’s questions:

- The computer is indeed just shutting down. No blue screen, no error messages, just a straight up shut down and reboot.
- I’ve installed the latest NVIDIA drivers for Windows 10, yes and pretty much anything else that was for anything Windows 10.
- Again, temperatures were fine and the BIOS is and has been set to automatically handle any temperature issues. It hasn’t steered me wrong up until now.
- No, I do not have another PSU to try out nor do I have the budget to go out and buy another.

This sounds like classic overheating.

Could be:

  • Lack of thermal paste
  • Lack of cpu cooler
  • Lack of power to cpu cooler
  • Lack of adequate quality cpu cooler
  • Improper ventilation in your computer case.

Just to name a few!

I would probably use your preferred search engine and look for “computer overheating”.

Again this is guesswork as I can’t say anything definitive with the information provided.

I’ve already stated that I’ve been monitoring temperatures as I play the game, and I’ve seen absolutely zero evidence of any overheating. Even seconds after it shut down as well as at the height of when it would usually fail, I put my hand near all the vents on my rig and it wasn’t anywhere near overheating.

In addition, what information do you need to get a proper analysis?

For about two or three days now, I’ve had Guild Wars 2 (EXCLUSIVELY GW2, mind you) completely shut off my computer more times then I can count on my fingers. I’ve done some preliminary research on it and everything points to faulty hardware, but this rig of mine has easily run Battlefield 4, Skyrim and Fallout 3 and max settings no problem. Again, only Guild Wars 2 presents this problem to me.

Here’s what I’ve done to remedy the problem (with no success, of course):

• Unplugged the power cord from the PSU, hit the power button to discharge electricity and rebooted.
• Disabled automatic reboot.
• Tweaked DPI settings.
• Double-checked seating of components, all check out
• Monitored component temperatures with HWMonitor, all check out
• Enabled V-Sync.
• Pretty much any common solution that is given when searching for my issue.

I want to say that this is a bug with a recent patch as I was actually just playing GW2 about a week ago for half the day nonstop with no shutdowns. If my instinct is right and it IS a bug with a recent patch, I hope it gets fixed ASAP. Otherwise, what else can I do to get rid of this annoying bug?

Here’s my rig info:

NVIDIA GTX 780 Ti
i7-4770k @ 3.5 GHz (8 CPUs)
32.0 GB of RAM
Windows 10 64 Bit Home Basic
EVGA SuperNova G1 1000w

“Broken” implies that something about the game is physically preventing you from playing the game as it’s meant to be played. Is the story crashing your client? Is it stuck in an infinite loop? If not, don’t call it broken if you haven’t put in a bug report yet.

RP organization in my guild is fine as is, no complaints here. But actually doing RP actions is awkward and unfitting for whatever situation we set up. Fights, meetings, patrols, you name it, whatever emotes or dialogue we generate, the game does nothing to compliment it. The current list of emotes is extensive already, but I think it needs a much larger variety of animations. Maybe I want my female to not jut her legs out to the left when she sits, maybe I want my male to not bow his head when he kneels, maybe I want my Norn to not do the Carlton when I type in /dance(please don’t kill me).

I guess I just want greater customization when it comes to the little things. So… there.

What race do you want playable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Inguiomerus.1504

Inguiomerus.1504

There are two major issues I see with adding in a new race.

- Customizable in almost every aspect (facial features, body shape, etc.) So right off the bat, that eliminates almost every race listed; Tengu, Hylek, Skritt, etc. If Anet didn’t spend time making each one of X race dramatically different from one another, it isn’t likely to become a playable race.

- Capital cities and surrounding areas. I understand that there is some room on the map for a race to establish it’s capital, but after all that plus lore and all the other good stuff, there probably won’t be enough room to establish 1-10 zones, 10-25 zones, and so on and so forth. Unless people are fine with only having 2-3 zones to level the new race, this is probably not going to stick.

You mean how Tera does it? Where anyone at any time can attack other players with no reason at all? Considering the mechanics that are already present, that would kinda ruin the game.

Why the Guild Wars 2 Internet Hate?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Inguiomerus.1504

Inguiomerus.1504

This reminds me of an old theory my US Government teacher taught us: the more you use something, the less satisfaction you get out of it. So my take on all the hate is that people are getting too familiar with Guild Wars 2 and it has BECOME the norm for them. When they leave, all they find are MMOs that feel “last-gen” in comparison to GW2. That early discovery wonderment that people felt when they played GW2 coming from other games is now gone and now they expect something better then GW2 – and they aren’t finding it by playing GW2 some more.

Really starting to lose faith in the devs in terms of RP lately. I’ve been browsing the forums a bit and RP talk, suggestions and whatnot aren’t really being looked at or considered by anybody. There’s really no downside to doing so either. You WANT your players to be immersed in the world you’ve created, right?

What’s the craziest thing you’ve done during this patch?

For me, I went much higher then the master crystal on top of the giant ship. There were no more solid hitboxes so this was as far as I could go. It really seemed like I could go much higher too, so I’d be pretty impressed if that were possible.

Inguiomerus.1504

Boss Blitz has literally killed the activity in TC. No matter what kind of situation it is, planned or not, the entire Blitz is ruined by either pugs zerging a single boss and throwing off the plan, or pugs just sitting in the center doing nothing while we’re calling for more people on a boss, also throwing off our plan. It’s impossible to organize anything when there’s only about 20-30 people in the Pavillion, and 10% of them are active, half of them doing the Gauntlet.

I’m in TC and we have some killer coordination going. Almost every time I see people planning out their next runs and calling for assists when a boss isn’t going down fast enough, but we always – ALWAYS – drop down to Bronze tier rewards! No matter what kind of strategy or commander skill or whatever, we cannot get gold or even silver to save our lives. This leads to people just straight up not participating and altogether killing the Boss Blitz activity. I have no idea how people are getting this done on other servers or with other groups, but it is abysmal over in TC.

That’s not to say the gauntlets aren’t enjoyable. I haven’t delved too deeply into it last year but I’m enjoying it now so I’m happy there.

I’m also satisfied with everything else. Zephyr Sanctum gives the same great experience, playing around with jumping and flying around at ease but with numerous and fun variations in the system. Master Sky Crystals are a step up from normal sky crystal hunting and the two activities (albeit pretty lackluster for two repeating events) make people go places they never expected they could.

So yeah, loving this update to the max, but the Boss Blitz is horrendous right now. If there’s something we’re critically missing, tell me so I (along with the rest of the people I play with) can begin to enjoy the Blitz again.

Anyone else hate Orr?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Inguiomerus.1504

Inguiomerus.1504

Orr for me has always been in a disastrous state. I can never find any incentive to go there other than crafting materials, because any other reason would guarantee me at least 10 deaths and a handful of gold wasted on repairing. The Risen are extremely unfair in their attack style. Usually you could use your pet if you were a ranger to get a guy off you, but for me, as soon as I use it, they just come running back after the lure. There is absolutely NO reason for me to do anything or go anywhere regarding the undead anymore; it is broken beyond belief! I want to see this whole thing fixed real soon, otherwise I’m stuck without enjoying the entire experience of the game.

Orr needs some touching up

in Suggestions

Posted by: Inguiomerus.1504

Inguiomerus.1504

I’m not entirely sure if this was intentional but Risen units are a pain in the kitten to handle with. No matter what kind of situation they’re in, they will attack you and ONLY you. It’s the same for any of my professions: ranger, warrior, you name it. Any Risen unit will bum rush me and most of the time, it’s in masses so I go down instantly. No amount of healing or any other strategic maneuver can help me avoid them. I cannot further level my character or have him/her explore any portion of Orr without being stampeded on by mindless Risen units.

If this was meant to be a thing in late gameplay, I’m going to be very disappointed, knowing that there will be no other reason to go anywhere near Orr, thus complete any of the achievements and story quests there.
