[Suggestion] Remove time-gated crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Inoki.6048

I’ve been meaning to propose this for a long time, particularly now that I’m about to craft my second celestial armour and to think that I again have to wait days/weeks to be able to convert quartz crystals into a charged crystal is an unnecessary drag.

Anybody feeling the same way? If I have the ingredients now, why should I wait to get my armour? What’s the point?

It’s just stretching the process unnecessarily.

Thus I vote to have this completely removed and be able to craft e.g. celestial the same way as any other = you have the ingredients, you craft now, not in days, weeks, a month.

  • If you see something, say something. We actively read the official forums and reddit posts. My QA partner Evan Zynda is all over things on reddit. We want to know what’s wrong with our content, so please let us know.

Saying something:

  • urge your management to stop being involved too much and let people do their jobs so that the game may (hopefully) recover from its current messed up state
  • according to reviews most people disapprove of the CEO and advise he should ditch his “Yes men” who seem to lack understanding and make the most horrible business decisions aimed at the game being just a cash machine (typical NCSoft strategy)
    • treat the game like a game and stop making it just for profits. Your judgement seems to be very clouded because all you started seeing is money (game rewards have been crippled, some instances abandoned, everything centred around HoT content making other content obsolete)
  • encourage designers to work with artists more than less
  • stop pressing on delivering mass amounts of content without the right people
    • trust your employees, give them more freedom to do what you hired them to do
  • do not allow other markets set the course for the game
  • take time to address the problems instead of pushing so much priority on shipping. Be willing to fire bad managers and directors, instead of letting them lead to talent loss. Help the teams work together better, instead of allowing some teams to isolate themselves

In short: stop letting incompetent people make any kinds of decisions.

How I know this? I do my research.

It’s sad but i agree.

I’ve seen entire wvw guilds leave wvw and people relocating to pve or pvp due to the new borderlands.
While i love the design of the HoT maps, i can’t help but wonder how they will work when they’ll become deserted. Some people have already farmed whatever they could out of them and only come back occasionally or not at all.

I don’t think they will work at all. Judging from my previous experience with the parent company that is behind every business decision for this game as well I assume it will go down the same direction – it will be either removed from the game, or not improved and kept for RMTs and scripters who keep their games “alive”. NCSoft doesn’t give a rat’s kitten about whether you enjoy content, otherwise there wouldn’t be so much imbalance either.

Dungeons, as I’ve heard, are going to be completely removed, and the team behind them might’ve already been disbanded. The same might happen to Borderlands. Sure one would think “why did they add them if they want to remove them, makes no sense” – to them everything that is a gold sink for us makes sense.

Everything is aimed only towards new content which after a while gets boring in its tediousness, because after you do it you do what? That’s right, the new design gets you bored quickly because you can’t even enjoy it solo, and after that you would want to go back to some other part of the game, but most of the previous content is crippled in favour of the expansion (dungeons e.g. are a good example, instead of receiving balancing patches and better rewards, some rework, they have been crippled completely and nobody does them; I can’t get a decent group in WvW lately. Before it was crawling with people, now we are constantly outnumbered.).

There goes GW2.

Well said @Ashern.

The game became a waste of time.

People, be warned of titles with the NCSoft logo (just as with GW2) on them, or anyhow associated with the company. Their business practices ruin every single one of their titles. It’s shoddy business with only money in mind. Just look up Lineage 2 and you’ll understand. I played that game for around 10 years and it went to ruin because of the F2P model.

Well said @Ashern, well said. You summed it up so well I don’t even know is there something to add.

The game became downright worthless; a complete waste of time.

That being said, a family member for whom I bought the game already got bored and I’m already on the way back to my favourite title from Blizzard.

To everyone:

beware of titles with the NCSoft logo (just as with GW2) on them, or anyhow associated with. Their business practices ruin every single one of their games. It’s shoddy business with only money in mind. Lineage 2 is a perfect example.

I thought Anet broke off from NCSoft and now work on the game independently. It seems some NCSoft tendencies remained in Anet though.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, the logo is still there. Also, any video I launched over Twitch advertised their logo. You don’t do that if you break ties with someone.

The way the game changed everything hints towards them being behind it, to squeeze out as much money as possible (focus on F2P, game nerfs in favour of the gem store, it’s blunt obvious).

Those who have played at least one notable title from NCSoft will know.

That button seems to be out of order. I have never heard of a single instance when someone got punished for their behaviour.

If people don’t know how to behave, then it’s time for them to learn. Some are old enough to know what it means to keep their frustration at bay.

Or is this game only for bullies without jobs?

The filter is not there to give you carte blanche to swear as much as you want.

It’s there so I don’t have to see it between you using it and you getting suspended for using it.

If suspending for language would get you suspended, stop, grow up just a little bit and control yourself.
And if you feel you need profanity to feel like an adult you have serious maturity issues.

You agreed to certain ToS, if you then refuse to keep up your end of the bargain it is not in any way unreasonable to suspend or ban you.
Nothing to do with people being overly sensitive, but only the standards of behavior you agreed to follow.

Very well said.

Hi,

There may be a lot of emotions in my thoughts, so please try to take what I’m about to say from the right perspective and if you don’t have anything reasonable to add then just remain silent, thank you. Also, bear in mind, that English is not my mother tongue.

I feel really down and disappointed about the ranger. I tried to figure it out day after day for the past month and something (almost two months and yer, I’m new to the game), but despite the many people I bested in PVP both in close and long range combat I feel the class isn’t balanced at all when talking about manouverability.

From a reasonable perspective, any archer in any game, and in real life of course (snipers, hunters and such) ought to demonstrate flawless manouverability and positioning, which they depend on and outlines their survival.

I mean, who the f* designed a class that is supposed to be extremely agile and hard to catch to move like a turtle instead, unless one uses a horn or the shout build to give himself and the party swiftness with regeneration or uses another combination to achieve movement boost.

I don’t know by what other means than the above mentioned and eg. the sword skill to jump and leap, or the greatsword’s rush you guys use to achieve better movement but frankly, I tried what I believed to be the most reasonable options for both condi and/or sniping builds, both of which fail at movement if you go let’s say LB/GS, or LB/sword + weapon of your choice for sniping or for condi builds axe/torch + sword/dagger or otherwise.

A bloody guardian that wears heavy armour and heavy weaponry should by definition be a very slow runner, but no, he has teleportation skills and can swing through the battlefield with his sword and other very helpful stuff. What the…

Why don’t rangers have supreme evasion skills like in most games allowing for swift repositioning? Why the hell have we, when in combat mode, been given a movement pace of a snail while an elementalist can get up to 25% if wearing two daggers?

Example: you run a condi build where you don’t include the movement signet because you need other utilities, you enter combat = what the heck is with that movement speed??? You’re dead if you move 0.5 km/h.

I’d like to hear how you guys manage.

A good question – when will all the current issues be fixed.

A rollback would do the trick, but also upset a lot of the OP class players, because their classes got more OPed and they like it that way.

Hard to say, but perhaps when they hire capable people to do the job right. The current game design team is a failure as all the feedback proves.

In a similar fashion, most master artisan, ascended and legendary gear recipes are so resource and time-gated that they turn people away from crafting rather than make it interesting.
Those shout out: “To get me, I want you to live in the game for months on end, drop school, leave your job, sell whatever you can, forget everybody you’ve ever known”.
This is a bad way to make people play in the long run.

It’s a way of making money.

Avanglion.3598:

Asking for a task to be repeated 250,000 times or huge amounts of an extremely rare resource to be acquired is just rude.
Like waving candy in front of a child’s face then taking it away while laughing maniacally.
IMHO, there are smarter ways to make people stay and play on a regular basis.
For starters, the solution for those achievements with the huge counters is simple – just reduce the numbers.
As for the those…

Since HoT I believe more and more hardcore players started to emerge who demand more “difficulty” what game strategists translate incorrectly leading to absurd solutions, like feeding one guy 50 Apples to get a mastery point – ridiculously dull task. It reminds me much of Lineage 2 and other, very old MMOs. Not surprising since NCSoft runs the show here.

GW2 has lost its casual tag and to an ever growing extent became a grind. This is not the game we used to know / started to play. Nowadays it’s Fashion Wars + eSports w/ absurd class balancing.

I would like to know if there’s going to be a server / game engine upgrade to fix the kitten lag we’re having, like yesterday, disconnected over 3 times during raids, persistently unable to use any skills and you know the rest and this is not just yesterday, but the lags during zerg fights – the game mode is often unplayable.

This is not about PC settings or internet connection because many run decent builds yet we’re all facing the same issue.

Stop gating map completion with events

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Inoki.6048

Inoki.6048

However, map completion doesn’t have to be done right now.

That’s an absurd defense. The spirit of map completion has, with few exceptions, always been “do it when you want to do it.” The issue is not “wanting to do it right now” versus wanting to do it later. The issue is lacking the freedom to do it when you want to do it. That’s the point.

Video games run on choice. Every time you take away choice, you are left with less of a video game and more an interactive graphic novel. I’m being a tad hyperbolic to make a point here. The principle of the thing is rather important when it starts adding up.

It’s not an absurd defense. You have an tendency to see anything you disagree with as absurd or wrong, which is frankly absurd. Nor is it a defense.

It is, a very, very absurd defence. Map completion is always up to the player. Players should never have to sacrifice real life for a stupid game.

Games should be fun, not a second job.

If you don’t have a life so be it, but don’t force others to waste theirs.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Depends what some of you define as casual, or as it seems to me some of you are more like semi-casual/semi-hardcore, because casual casual is what the OP seems to be and the original GW2 was designed that way (a lot easier, more relaxed).

HoT became way too difficult for some and it’s understandable. Doesn’t mean that some of you enjoy it the way it is everyone has to.

This is not the time to boast about how you managed to do everything, all by yourself, like internet heroes, this is the time to look at things from another perspective and agree, that for some this is way over the top and frankly, it is; for Rangers in particular, going through all that hassle just for 2 pets = nonsense, and a lot of mechanics just showcase poor game design.

What the pvp forums want, they get.

The last week has been hard proof of that.

I understand this, because if you run a game competitively with tournaments for prizes PVP has to be balanced, or close to it. They knew, that if they want to go down that road they will have to listen to players (more).

yeah ok, but usually nerfs are demanded by very casual players…so, shouldn’t they listen to people that reasonably discuss this or that skill or trait, instead that a bunch of people scraming “nerf this/that, it’s tooooooooooooo op!!!!!”

That’s what I meant by saying “sometimes it boggles the mind how decisions are made”. That being said, we may say what we believe to be wrong, but it’s up to them if they want to listen, thus if we want to persuade them to make right choices we have to push by means of constructive, polite and factual criticism and maybe we get to see stuff implemented.

I agree with you, that listening to immature comments makes them look bad for considering nonsense, but that’s how it sadly works sometimes.

We both along with many others may agree on the same thing, but who do you think represents the majority in the world?

I don’t listen to other people saying what I should use, ever. I observe and learn that way, but do not copy. If you were meant to be like everyone else you would not have been given the power of thought, because to be like everyone else takes no thought at all.

I too play it because of its flexibility (a kit for every situation). I hardly use anything else but that’s because I don’t find anything else useful (not saying that it isn’t) mainly because of the terrible cool down system I could age on, and also because I’m used to mechanics of other games, where I don’t need to wait half a minute on average for a spell to become usable again.

Fast-paced gaming. ANet forces variety upon its players while their desired spell is being recharged. In reality, you should be able to use what you want, whenever you want, or as quick as you want (this begs the question: won’t a class be overpowered that way? Won’t the game suffer from the same as other games? Read on…)

There used to be masteries for that too (not in this game though). You might think I’d like to see the game turned into a fast-paced Korean Lineage 2 or smth clone. Yes and no, because this is MMORPG, mainly RPG, so if you switch places with your character having its powers you’d sometimes want to just spam one skill on your opponent until they are dead.

What I dislike about the game in general, and also when playing Engi, is the cool down. That’s why I use kits, so I can quickly switch and use something else until what I need again cools down. (They wanted to impose way too much “strategy”, made it only boring on many occasions.)

I consider it the most versatile class of all, adaptable to virtually any situation and if played right, coming out of every fight as a winner. It has something to offer to anyone, but even though one may play it in many various ways, it still has one main course outlined for it, and that’s condition damage.

I think it’s fine. Gives people something to shoot for. It reminds me of the UW spider. Also, I completed Dragon Stand the other night when I fell into a guild run map and I can see the event being completed on a regular basis soon enough.

It’s a nice special reward for rangers I think.

Saying it gives people something “to shoot for” assumes we all love this kind of content and will enjoy “shooting” for it.

A bit like saying that everyone should shoot to be a top footballer.

Not everyone even wants to be a footballer, let alone a top one.

At the end of the day, pets are Ranger’s class mechanic, so gating them behind these type of hurdles is not OK.

If they wanted to put a special, rare, rainbow tiger behind a limited time, event success related, jumping puzzle nightmare, then that would be different, I guess.

Although, I still wouldn’t recommend it, as people who don’t enjoy that kind of stuff would still be frustrated.

But, this is just a regular tiger and the only one available, so it should be available fairly easily.

Either that, or the pet mechanic should be usable on any other pet, at the very least.

If these pets are in hard to get to places fine , but locked behind meta events means any amount of mastery training becomes a tad pointless as these masteries could be used to access Hard to get to locations where these pets could be .

so instead of waiting for the meta events , you could Work on a few masteries and get to that hard location and find the pet in the players own time as not everyone has time to wait around for meta events to be finished.

Couldn’t agree more.

I agree with everything the OP said. With GW2 being free to download and play it’s headed down the F2P model, which ruins every game. No surprise really, ANet has close ties to NCsoft, who are behind the fall of great titles like Lineage 2, which I played for 7 long years.

With F2P you have to pay for everything in the game. Games become infested with bots (RMT) and hackers and it all goes straight down to hell.

To think of it, they made it free to download and play, so we paid the same price as before for 3 maps, 5 pets, a few armours/weapons and one additional story.

A huge thank you to everyone.

I took your valuable feedback into consideration and experimented a lot the most part of the day today in PVP, since my question was mainly aimed towards that and Ranger’s overall faint movement speed (excl. signets). I go by the rule, that if it’s applicable in PVP, it will most likely work in PVE and for me it does. (Yer, I’m looking for a universal build, although some may disagree.)

I went from different trait lines to runes and sigils, armours and weapons, tried about everything I found interesting and that would suit my play style.

In WvW/PVE there’s plenty of space to manouver, but PVP is usually close quarters, of course depending on the map type – some offer more advantage, some less so – but comparably less space for manouverability at points.

I too concluded, based on what some of you mentioned, that what the ranger would truly benefit from is to substitute not so used/useful traits for passive movement speed increase/positioning abilities/evasive manouvers in and out of combat.

Have a good day.

People being abusive in games isn’t something new, but should be a thing of the past. The time when ANet started to pay more attention to this issue was yesterday. The level of abusive behaviour in the game has reached greater magnitudes as I’ve witnessed in the last few days, especially in PVP, obviously because people think they can get away with whatever vulgar attitude.

As a paying customer I did not pay for a hostile (in-game) environment, often crowded with immature individuals.

While there is a profanity filter option in settings, many have it disabled simply because they don’t mind the occasional f* words, but the level of cussing some people demonstrate is getting out of control and requires heavy moderation.

What I propose:

1st violation: written warning
2nd violation: complete suspension of the account (based on proof)

Harsh? Not compared to how some treat others. It’s time to teach people some manners, and what better way than having them pay for their behaviour.

The low vitality and relatively fragile nature are signs that you need to learn manoeuvrability to be very fluid on the battlefield. If you want something more resilient go with a Warrior or a Guardian like most people here. Those classes, especially the guard, are far too strong.

Complaining like you do only signals one thing – you don’t know how to play the thief.

[Suggestions] Please Bring Back these Gem Stores Items

Instead of having to bring back something, stop gating those items behind seasons or achievements. Just make them all available.

I understand you want more sales during specific periods, but if you really want people to support the game quit the gating of stuff, unless it’s really something very specific, like a Christmas tree for your home instance, e.g., but stuff like black wings? That won’t make anybody happy and won’t earn you any coins.

It’s just a game, take a step back relax and breathe, also this JP has Checkpoints throughout it so it is by far one of the More forging JPs in the whole game since if you mess up you get to start partway to most of the way through it.

That’s the point, you should not be forced to take all checkpoints since we have mesmers.

Games should be fun and challenging I agree, but this is no fun. It has crossed the line where it becomes outright dull and painful.

Dude you need to chillax. It is a game. If part of it is frustrating move on and do something else. I very much dislike PvP and HoT maps. So I just do not go there. PLay the parts of the game you enjoy.

As you say – it’s a game, and as such it should be fun. I don’t know about you but I don’t launch the game to get a headache, or to feel bad, but the opposite, to have fun, relax a bit etc.

If they hadn’t put a mastery point or another reward at the end of it many would never bother, which is I believe why it is so.

I also agree with those who’ve pointed out the mechanics + camera issue, that adds to the frustration.

It was designed by Josh Foreman, who likes to create challenges with the expectation that most will fail

that guy… would be my test subject for a real-life HOPE pistol. He’s literally making fun of us for our money.

Some points I agree with, some I cannot, namely:

•Elimination of conditions on auto attack
This game has way too many conditions flying around. Never in my gaming life have I seen so many conditions being applied to me over and over and over
•Condition rework
Conditions should be just that, a condition… not something that melts your hp bar but rather a form of controlling your opponent

Conditions do exactly what they are supposed to do – cripple the opponent, often to the point of death. Think of them as spreading plague. When you’re ill you also can hardly do anything and the same applies here – your CDs are slower, you move slower, you bleed, burn, are confused, your healing and damage output is crippled – all how it should be. Conditions ignore armour and reach you where physical reach is impossible. It’s called Damage Over Time (DOT).

Counter measure: condi cleansing setup.

Conclusion: Nothing wrong here. Sounds more like your inability to cope with a game mechanic. I am actually thinking they could use a boost, because even with my almost 2k condi damage opponents go down slower than expected.

•Skills need to be aimed or ground targeted
This forces the player to be focused when fighting

You have got to be joking.

So you want the computer do everything for you so you don’t have to “focus” on anything, just mindlessly press buttons.

In case you haven’t noticed, the game is already limiting players beyond reason. Whoever designed this mechanic hoped for more strategy to be employed, but failed.

As someone who has played quite a few MMOs out there it seems to me as if this game was designed for those incapable of using but a fraction of what they know, because every other MMO I have played out there does not limit me, allowing me to use my character to its full potential, i.e. if I have learned 40 abilities I can use all of them, at any given point, which is what GW2 never allowed and it is absurd and idiotic and the cause of major frustrations, e.g. when you find yourself in a situation where you could use a different ability than you have slotted and cannot equip it because you are not given the choice to use whatever you have learned in the past (which is stupid, because we all have a choice, only ANet denies that fact),

THAT is crippling, NOT conditions. It’s limiting and frustrating not being able to use everything you have learned.

ANet’s argument could be, that the game would be imbalanced… blah blah blah

- there are ways to make it balanced. Those, who don’t want to, find reasons, those who do, find ways.

Many MMO players refer to GW2 as casual, hand-holding c**p for many good reasons.

“Trust me I’m an Engineer!” – they say

While most may have changed to Scrapper, I’m proudly a condi Engi with PP and I deliver massive blows. Engi continues to be the most entertaining, all-round class in the game with new-old ways to make every battle interesting, diverse and fun!

“Unspecified security reasons my kitten ”.

Now the question is, since I believe there are many amongst them who bought gems, how does NC plan to proceed? Or just use the ban hammer and “thanks for all the fish”?

This unbelievably cancerous company called NCSoft and their impositions… ANet needs to separate from them, ASAP.

Will you prepurchase next expansion?

No, not as things stand.

My gut instinct was to not buy this one, but then I relented.

It’s not all bad – some parts of the maps are beautiful (the artwork in this game is great), I have a lovely tiger pet (even though she was stressful to get) and a nice new bow skin.

I enjoyed some of the personal story

Speaking of the story – if you want to know the background of Scarlett Briar you have to unlock 5 chapters for 200 gems each… That should’ve been included with the expac.

I can’t honestly say I’m sorry to hear it. Hopefully, ANET will make decisions that are unaffected by eSports concerns or eSports players.

The only decisions they made were business decisions, i.e. what makes them money. The company never seemed like it cares about its game, how else would it end up so FUBAR on so many fronts even ESL cancels it.

E wyvern location is a little ridiculous

Inoki.6048

It’s not just the wyvern, a lot of planning for this game causes major headaches and is utterly pointless, like certain obstacles in order to reach something.

I agree, that no pet should be hidden behind any event, totally absurd. Animals normally roam around the land, they don’t hide, hence shouldn’t even be hidden.

Engineer gripes about the balance patch

I agree with the OP, that the most recent patch proved the company has absolutely no clue about the game they are developing, or they do and they make it a mess on purpose. I am out of ideas as to why would someone intentionally overlook the much needed changes.

e.g. everyone knows condis are OP, what does NC… sorry ANet do? Buff them more…
