How do you explain the WvW reward?

Here’s what I don’t get. Are you people new? WvW has always had less the stellar rewards to investment in it. This should come as a surprise to no one who has actively been doing wvw for any amount of time. I’m more shocked that the chest actually has a decent amount of dragonite in it.

Agreed. If you did WvW for the rewards, then you probably should’ve stuck to PvE

there is no logical reason player versus player shouldnt have decent rewards, and more importantly somethings that you aim for as a competitor

There is a logical reason. The diehard fans of WvW are tired of reward-seeking players who don’t care about WvW objectives taking spots and causing crazy long queues. WvW players want to play with like-minded players and want to play against like-minded players.

If you want rewards, there is a game mode that gives you good rewards: PvE. Stay out of WvW if you don’t intend to WvW

what if I want to WvW AND make progress toward an ascended weapon or legendary?

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

those rewards don’t even take 1 hour to get man !
- they should make a japanese style dogeza video of the whole studio apologizing for the dropping the ball so hard !

WvW leagues is DEAD !

I was being generous with the 1 day … It’s pretty much 1 hour of champion farming

NCSoft Q3 quarterly earnings report was just released and GW2 revenues are down 15% from the previous quarter. We now know what was the impetus for the Collaborative Development stuff that appeared in early October. Is that going to make any difference? The numbers show that the Living Story content has not been enough to stop the continuing decline in sales – if anything, the decline has accelerated.

I think at this point the only thing that can turn it all around is a new box expansion. The longer they wait to do this, the more radical the expansion will need to be to get people back.

I think Living Story IS the reason why people are playing less, myself included. Living Story is just an achievement grind, and follow the zerg. Nothing more. They need to give us real stuff, traditional content patches. The CDI was good to have, and we talked about some really good stuff. I hope some of it is implemented. Two things that would make me play GW2 more these days is if the cadence was adjusted and if they removed achievements from Living Story to maybe one or two achievements, not 10. Achievements are driving these patches. Any time you have achievements driving your content, it becomes a grind, a “not fun grind”. I.E. People doing the same repetitive tasks over and over and over for..what?

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.

So where do we go from here?

I do expect something to change for real in upcoming months for a simple reason: there will finally be competitors.

One of the major luck and, at same time, disgrace of Gw2 (and how it grown) has been the launch time.
They hit the perfcet timing. For one year or so, nothing was in direct competition with Gw2.
Sure, a month after launch WoW deployed MoP: but it’s for a already different target audience, so doesn’t really count.
F2P/B2P wise, the only one has been Neverwinter (which is rubbish) and few other converted F2P which can’t be considered as real competitors.

What did this mean for Gw2? Aside that it has been launched earlier in order to get full benefit of this window (in spite of all the “When it’s ready” mantra), it means that for a year or so, Anet has been able to slack HARD yet retaing most players – there was nothing really worth where moving to and leaving GW2, unless you’re going to pay a sub or dropping MMOs altoghether for a while.
You can see it by looking down at last year developmen.
Living Story nothingness, temporary crap, bugs still rampant, little or no changes to flaws in endgame core features like DGs/WvW/PvP, and so on.

Now that
-new consoles are launching. And Gw2 cater to a lot of casual/firstMMO crowd, which is likely to drop it for new consoles and the usual Xmas flood of new games.
-Anet has really crossed the line in terms of slacking and more and more ppl are leaving even with nothing on the market
-new MMOs on the horizon are shaping out as a real treat, see EQN or AA (F2P), ESO or Wildstar (P2P)

They’re literally *****ing in their pants.

It’s probably too little and too late imo.
Pvers looking for hardcore/challenging stuff: disappointed.
Pvers causuals: Living Story/Temporary Content/Cash Shop updates are finally getting old even to them.
WvWers: disappointed. A LOT.
PvPers: there are still some?

But who knows.

well I still have fun playing

what could they change or add? I’d like some non combat stuff added to the game. While I enjoy the combat here, it is non stop pretty much.

Also with the living story, I’d like to see them start to connect the dots in the story, right now it feels all disjointed with only Scarlet to tie it together (where we have no idea of the motives, she feels like a comic book villain, just doing bad stuff because she can).

Here are some of the things I’ve observed/my suggestions ><.

Continuity and characterization:

  • 1.a Instead of always adding new threats and characters, work sometimes on expanding what’s already there in a meaningful way. Tyria is a beautiful world, full of interesting characters you have already established, yet most of them are relegated to cameo roles.
  • 2.a People care about characters. Characters drive stories. Those short-stories on the site are nice, but they can’t be our only reliable source of lore and character development!

Disconnection:

  • 2.b The pc so far has been very marginally involved with what has been happening. People do not feel connected to the story.
  • 3. Involve your community! Community events [with the living story as their main theme, such as the diorama contest last year] help people forge a deeper connection with their games and usually make for a very positive and creative atmosphere. Take the living story outside of the game and make the players live it! The rewards do not need to be anything grand.

Awareness, continuity and communication:

  • 1.b Right now it very much feels like every two weeks some random event pops up somewhere random in the world. I believe this week’s LS (The Tower of Nightmares) had a nice lead up, but too much of it was still left to chance. I would have never known that something weird was going on in Kessex Hills beforehand if I hadn’t looked at the forum/official site. Why not add some npcs talking about it (even very vaguely) in the main cities, for example? We do not need a herald, just some clues here and there.
  • 4. The living stories themselves are often lacking in clarity and direction. Why is looking at the achievement panel the only way to understand what is going on, most of the times? It’s either that or some bright gold star in the world map. There needs to be a middle ground.

Pacing and quality:

  • 5. It has been said so many times I lost count, but the current pace is simply stressful and kills the fun. Quality and replay value over quantity. Instead of being stuck doing the very same thing dressed up in a different skin week after week, releasing a LS update once a month should give you enough time to truly come up with some unique, different ideas. [Example: People have been clamouring for the home instance to have a use, so you put a quartz node in front of the orphanage in Salma District? Just… why?]

Gem Store:

  • 6. Time-gated rng weapon sets is a business practice that puts off a lot of people and has been giving Anet a bad image. It leaves a sour taste in the community that overrides most of the positive impressions.

This poster right here has every complaint and fix to this I can think of. I back his feedback 100%.

When reading massive posts like these I really rely on the dev posts.. because I can’t read every single post from every single person.. WAY too much, so thanks for bringing up the points you’ve gather from other posters Chris and Colin.

So, knowing that pacing (story is too slow, seems disjointed, releases are too fast, 2 weeks can be killer) is covered, which I agree with, I’ll move on to cover some other points.

In a television series, you can rewatch episodes. If the episode is something you really like, you rewatch it.. or if you miss it one week, you can rewatch it later. I think a lot of people have mentioned this, that there is no way currently to redo some of the living story (which I can understand would be hard, you can’t just remake the world to what it was for that one player). So what I think would be neat is a way to at least track the living story in a fashion similar to how we can track our personal story.. We have that personal story tab that essentially shows us a synopsis of how our personal story progressed. I’d love it if that story tab had subtabs, one for the personal story and then one tab for each story arc (so currently, one for personal story, one for scarlet). This way people could at least read what happened and be up to speed with the current storyline.

Slow down and smell the pixels.

Perhaps instead of attempting to emulate a TV series, the developers should try emulating those old ‘pick a path’ adventure books. Those, at least, were interactive.

No matter how many times one watches the Star Trek original series episode Spock’s Brain, the outcome of the story won’t change and RC Spock won’t be any less silly. But at least one can watch Spock’s Brain again and again and revel in its silliness whenever one feels so inclined, unlike much of the Living Story.

Furthermore, this whole thing seems pointless. Is there anything in this thread that has not been said already? I’ve been posting about the Living Story/World ever since its debut. I’m not going to go through it all again here, because now the devs say they are listening.

At this point, who will still be here in four months to witness the fruits – if any – of this ‘collaborative’ endeavor?

The table is a fable.

My biggest problem with the Living Story effort is the pace is simply abusive. If you were adding new permanent content every 2 weeks that would be amazing. But you’re not – you’re rotating it behind little 2 week or 4 week windows. It’s entirely too cynical (and blatant) of an exercise in operant conditioning. That the most visible permanent addition lumped under ‘Living Story’ banner is the debacle that is Tequatl is not helping either.

Then there’s Scarlet. Words do not convey my horror that a piece of character writing unfit for a 15-year old’s worst ego-projection power fantasy is being touted as the backbone for a multi-million dollar MMO’s evolving storyline. It embarrassing. You (collectively) should be embarrassed. You have capable writers, but somebody needs to be riding herd over them reining in the blatant Sylvari fetishism/favoritism (is there any NPC in the entire setting who doesn’t fawn over them?) and to pull the suck cord when an idea just isn’t going to build a stronger world setting going forward. This isn’t a cry for grimdark gritty-grit-gritism, but we shouldn’t be looking at your star attraction of the last year and thinking “that’s just absurd…” It’s not building good word of mouth for the game and it’s not the powerful force for retention that the Living Story could be. Many of us aren’t eagerly waiting to see what happens next (which we should be), instead we’re dreading the inevitable re-appearance of Little Miss Writer’s-Fiat and her next ludicrously implausible alliance…

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I’m sick of birthday crashers putting the world at stake.

It would be nice to see something more “serious” for a change. I left the “evilness” of Skeletor in my childhood. Evil characters needs to have more depth.-

and please… no more items… no more currencies, tokens, collectibles, etc… I’m this close to hire someone to manage my bags and banks (also, already failed at bringing 6 friends back to the game because they got overwhelmed by the amounts of items, marks and stuff around the screen they didn’t understand, also the many things and skins they missed and never get back)

The living story just feels not epic. I as a player feel like a merc instead of a hero.
I feel replaceable, in a world that is endangered by dragons, I run around and do useless stuff. Why ain’t we going to confront them now, they will only get stronger.

Scarlet is a weak villain, she just feels random. Her character does not fit to the mastermind she is sold as. And she is no dragon. That is a weakness too.

For a year, Zhaitan is dead, for a year the Pact is rotting in fort trinity. Why did the living story ignore everything that was built up by the personal story. It does not feel like a new arc, but like a different game. I do not miss Trahearne, but I miss to be in a cutscene, being part of the story, not just part of the events.

The personal story was sold as one of the pillars, but it is gone, nothing personal at all with the living story.

Regarding male/male, there’s several sylvari cases though I’ve not seen any among the other races. Then again I haven’t seen that outspokenly among the others for female/female either.

Also I don’t really feel like there is a lot more female story characters? I feel like there is for once (unlike many other mmos) more of an equality or a “it’s the person not the gender” mentality with Anet’s direction though which I really applaud.

Completely agree! If they are going to have a trend of adding “raid” content (as in, requires coordination between a large group of people), then they need to make raid instances and also the tools to help manage however many people are required. I’ve been continually stuck in overflow servers with many AFK people who got bored of waiting on timers. These last several major events have been a complete disappointment. Perhaps Anet should reconsider how often they release updates given the poor quality of the last few.

Yeah i was thinking the same, it’s “open world” content for the devs on their spreadsheet so they could pat themselves on the shoulder and be proud about no one is left outside by bad elitist guilds. Meanwhile in their game its basicly a giant raidinstance, but you cant choose your instance or wait ages for your homeinstance. This happens when devs dont play their own game, instead their doing some fancy powerpoint presentations to impress their managers who also never play the game. You just have to do the Claw of Jormag fight several times to realize it’s impossible to balance bossfights for such zergs. Jormag fight isnt bad, but it’s not challenging and just tedious and Tequatl will be the same after they nerfed him to the ground so nearly every overflow can beat him.

For the love of Dwayna, Kormir, Lyssa, Melandru, Balthazar and Grenth…. Please make it so either only just the character that a person joins a guild with is Representing the guild, or make it so they must leave a guild to join another, instead of all this Non-Representing going on. Guilds have 300+ members, yet half if not more are Non-Representing.

Also, other things I shall list that should be fixed about Guilds.

Some Ideas

  • Include Positive bonuses for loyalty when Representing a Guild after a determined Period of Game Play example: 1 Month/2 Month/4 Month Etc…
  • Would include +% in EXP/Magic Find, +Vitality/Toughness/Power/Accuracy…
  • Include Negative bonuses for being a member of more then 1 Guild, and Not Representing.
  • Would include -% in EXP/Magic Find, -Vitality/Toughness/Power/Accuracy…
  • More variety/layers of color when it comes to designing a Guild Emblem.
  • Sub-Websites for Guilds located @Guildwars2.com so players may browse a guild they’d possibly be interested in joining, these Sub-Websites would show Guild Achievements, Progression, Guild Emblem and Etc…
  • Guild Finder Tab, with a List of Guild Names, Online Officers/Leader, Short Biography, Age of the Guild, Number of Active Members/Inactive Members, etc.
  • Last Login date/time, so Guild Leaders/Officers can kick/comb through the ranks.

I understand that this is only my view on things, regarding Guild Uniqueness etc, hopefully I can get some good feedback, perhaps some of this is already in the woodwork w/ the Developers.. I do not mean to troll, but perhaps you Ladies and Gentlemen can add into what you think would be good as well.

This type of thing is incredibly important, especially to large guilds. I find it strange that it wasn’t implemented considering that it was in GW1. I understand that it might not be a high priority considering the number of guilds at max capacity, but it should be an easy fix and there really isn’t a good reason to not have it in game.

Hi all. I know some Guild stuff is going to be added this month with the update. However, I’m not certain none of these things are going to make the cut. I’d like to make a little suggestion list as a GW1 and 2 guild leader:

PRIORITARY:

· Give us a Guild Hall: I know this is already coming soon, but I really can’t emphasize enough how much this would help. For example, I’d like to be able to have meetings/parties/events in our Guild Hall like we did in GW1. Travel should also be free and leaving the Hall would port you back to the area you were before.
· Remove multi-guild system: I honestly believe this is the dumbest thing ever made in the game. People can join severals guilds and represent only one. If you’re not going to commit yourself to a single guild, why join it in the first place? What benefit does the guild have? It baffles me how some guilds just want to fill their member list with anything.
· Add an alliance system: Much like GW1 where we could gather as guilds into a single alliance. Working together, we could earn alliance influence to grant boons and benefits in WvW, PvE and PvP, similar to the current system.

MANAGEMENT TOOLS:
· Allow leaders to see last members last login
· Allow leaders to know the exact date when a member joined the guild
· Separate member list by rank: Say, you want to see the hierarchical list of users instead of a random mess of online/offline

COSMETIC:

· Guild Armor: There’s already the chest piece, but it’d be awesome if we could actually get the full set.

  • Us leaders should be able to customize their looks like we can customize ranks.
  • It would also be cool to have different tiers for guild armor too. T1 for regulars, T2 for officers and T3 for the leader (and maybe others top tier guildies too).
  • These could be purchased with some sort of tokens awarded by contributing to the guild with influence and would provide guildies a sense of achievement and belonging.

· Full list of Guild Weapons: Don’t just limit the choice to a few weapons. Give us more options!

You guys are really adamant about this guy not getting his hat.

Narratively it’s a big choice, sure, but really being locked out of end-game armor skins because of a choice you make early on without possibly knowing the consequences (unless you look them up beforehand) is the kind of terrible old-fashioned meta-gaming that they should really have known better than to include. Especially considering by the end of your personal story you’re basically a kitten new god they should REALLY let you get other faction armor.
