You don’t bypass content because you downlevel to whatever are you’re in.
There is little to nothing stopping you from staying at the same area from level 1 to 80.
So enjoy the game wherever you want, however you want.
I realize level scales. I find the gear drops useless. I would prefer to be able to keep my level near the content I am working on.
I feel like I should skip content and come back to it for completion, but I would prefer to go at it in a truly progressive fashion
A feature I would like to see is the ability to lock and unlock my experience points. I feel like I am always way ahead of myself level wise. As an example, I would like to be able to craft items for my character but halt my progress while doing that. I don’t want to feel like I am bypassing content because I chose to craft items.
I feel like I have to skip a lot of content because I out level it when I am moving through new areas that are in the natural course of leveling. Sure my level is scaled, but the drops tend to be useless as they are always several levels lower than my character level. Essentially I just end up buying better gear on the TP.

Unfortunately this is quite common these days. I never understood, and i never will, what motivates these kind of people. It just has to revolve solely around their own needs when it comes to design, if not, then just bakitten day in day out.
One look at this forum and you can see 3 or 4 people stating the exact same thing over and over again in numerous threads.
It doesn’t mean that i think the game is perfect or has no bugs, but continueing the same rants over and over again, by the same few people, is getting quite pathetic imo. You don’t have to like certain aspects of the game, but just move on. We get it now, you don’t like certain things, no need to repeat it over and over again in numerous threads.
Ofcourse, when you don’t agree with their views, you’re a fanboy/whiteknight or whatever.
It is very tiring to see. I like reading forums, but this one is so full of “bad stuff”, I get sick of looking at it. I really do feel like all of the negativity rubs off on me. If I never would have looked at the forums (despite the fact that it is in my nature), I would probably feel much better about the state of the game. Don’t get me wrong I really like it, I just wish the community felt more positive.
When Apollo 13 was in grave danger, everyone didn’t jump all over NASA’s kitten. They were behind NASA the whole way praying for those astronauts to return home safely. Positive attitudes hoping for the best. You have to wonder how differently that would be today.
If anyone owes anyone an apology, I think all the people raining down negativity owe the rest of the GW2 community an apology. It’s one thing to complain, but when every forum thread is repeated negativity or every good thread is hijacked, it makes coming to the forums a real pain to deal with.
You cannot even start a thread about enjoying the game without someone trying to turn it around on you. It’s getting quite tiresome.
not to be rude but well done, except, now you know what its been like for every other mmo forum in the lead up to gw2. EVERY mmo forum had to put up with this mercenary ‘your mmo sucks gw2 will kill it’ group. THAT grew tiresome. and when i see people complaining about negativity, well, karma is the word id use.
Where does it end? You can start the revolution and walk away.

I completely agree. I keep hoping for the day I can look at the Guild Wrs 2 Discussion forum and see most people chatting about good times and positive things. I would never expect all “negative posts” to go away and I wouldn’t encourage it even. It is that occasional criticism that will keep everyone thinking about the next great thing.
And there is our InfiniteRetro
5 months in MMO champion bushing GW2 , instead of getting a refund** :Poh i got my refund cupcake. before bwe3. now, dont be mad that i was right. not even star wars failed this hard.
Already got a refund, but still patrolling boards for a game you’re not even playing.. being the proud keyboard warrior you are…
blah blah blah zzzzz lol dude, the hurt is strong in you. look, for every one of me, there were 50 of you folk crying, and screaming and threatening hate over negative gw2 opinions. my vids now have people coming back and apologising for their rudeness because they saw i was right.
lol not often, but i have my moments. thanks.
Sorry, but Lumines wins this round.
Beta testers don’t owe you anything. What makes you so entitled? Wake up.
ahhhh, you didn’t read my post. I said my call for an apology was an absurdity. My point is we need to be more vocal during beta so everyone is more informed.
And I’m sorry, but the majority of these posts are hitting the negative. I don’t speak for all. I don’t need to. The pulse of the forum speaks volumes
True story. I read the first paragraph and skimmed the rest. The title gave me a bad vibe and thus my response. I suppose to avoid confusion, a title more to the point would be better.
After a brief re-read (a.k.a. skim), I didn’t see the true message until the very last paragraph. I think most people won’t read to the very last paragraph if we see a lot of the same material people have been talking about over and over. Not to be critical, just saying.

Gold sellers now including 1 copper in their mail so you can't delete it...
Posted by: JazzyJay.1367
I like the idea of the postage fee. How about 10 copper? Another way to really get them is to increase the cost per message over a given amount of time… allow the first 5 messages in an hour to go for 10c each. After that add a cumulative 10c for messages over 5. The 6th message in an hour would cost 20c, the 7th would cots 30c, the 8th would cost 40c, etc.,
Maybe with the extra $$$ sink in the mail system, we can get lower waypoint costs.
(edited by JazzyJay.1367)
this is about the lousiest game I have played. Anet itself is a soulless company.
Seriously? Is it worse than Shaq Fu? lmao
Well then, if they can’t come up with anything besides grinding to keep players busy, they’ll be remembered as another MMO that wanted to wrestle the giant that is WoW and got knocked into the dust. They say they want you to explore the world and have fun. If you did just that, without any farming at all, you’d be broke because of the waypoint travel costs. Reducing the waypoint travel costs or even removing them altogether would be the first step towards removing grinds.
So you remembered nothing about the game except the grind at 80? That is the only thing that comes to mind? Wow (no not WoW, but wow). How did you get to 80 if you couldn’t afford waypoint travel? I have had no trouble at all with waypoint costs. I walk a lot of the time and gather mats and such on the way. I get a couple drops decent drops from monsters and I have no trouble paying for waypoints.
“will be remembered”=/=“I will remember”. Of course I could afford waypoint travel; leveling is easily the most profitable avenue of gold. I can afford waypoint travel even now, but that’s because I farm gold. And even when I had 30 gold (before buying the first piece of T3 Cultural), I would still get annoyed by the fact that I had to pay 3 silver to get to Orr from LA.
I do understand how you feel about the cost. In my opinion the cost has the perfect weight. It isn’t so cheap that it is like, “Yeah whatever”, and it isn’t so expensive that I think, “Not a chance I will ever use that.” I weigh my travel expense before I go knowing I will have to work that cost off.
I won’t complain if they lower it, I promise you that.
Even if they released mounts, people will still complain about the waypoint costs. They will complain it takes too much time zoning, or that the mounts aren’t fast enough, or that they can just run through hordes of enemies with no challenge. People will complain about something.
I would love if the waypoints were free, but I am ok with the way they are.
Just walk once in a while when it isn’t too far and the stuff you pick up on the way will pay for a few trips in the future.
I would vote for it. Although I haven’t played every game this year, so how much value should my vote carry?
Honestly, I expect creativity. I expected the innovative experience they’d advertised since I started following them 2 years ago.
1-80 wasn’t terribly innovative. It was fun, it just wasn’t challenging in the least.
80+ isn’t really challenging, nor is it fun. And there isn’t even an incentive to ignore those two aspects and tough it out anyway.
These are just my opinions.
They did introduce some new ways to play. I just don’t see how you can rid yourself of grind completely in any game that has any sort of longevity. Look at real life… it is a freaking grind. I gotta do the dishes, do the laundry, go to work, etc., Eventually you play on any platform long enough, you are going to feel it. You simply cannot build a platform so dynamic that you will never feel that.
Hopefully ArenaNet will add more in the future to really test you and give you something new to look forward to. I expect they will. I am sure they have big plans for this game.

There are so many complaints about grind at level 80. Then there are people that say there is nothing to do at 80. What way do you want it? If they just give you EVERYTHING at 80, there will be absolutely nothing to do. If they make is real quick, why bother at all? If it takes a long time it is suddenly considered a grind. Because ArenaNet said they were trying to avoid the grind, people jump all over them. How can you make anything last a long time in an MMO without some sort of grind? It isn’t possible. Devs cannot write code as fast as people can conquer it. Would you have preferred to wait another 10 years for this game? Waited until ArenaNet exhausted its resources and went out of business with the game unreleased because too much time went into content?
Freaking Ridiculous.
-Reaching level 80 takes a week;
-100% world completion takes a week;Lmao… You know, most people actually have lives right? If you reached 80 in a week, let alone 100% world completion, you need to take a long, hard look in the mirror and ask yourself what your life’s purpose even is.
MMORPG is a kind that has a player base consists of mostly hardcore players. Harcore players play at least about 6 hours a day and GW2 has lots of hardcore players. 6 hours a day is enough to reach level 80, along with 100% world completion in a week.
You can ask people what the purpose of their lives is, but ANet can’t.
Blizzard is well aware that MMORPG players are mostly hardcore, or at least semi-hardcore players. I believe ANet is also aware of that now.
Seriously… by your math… 42 hours. I don’t see it happening. If it was even possible, you would have to know the game upfront extremely well. You would also have to be on speed the entire time to keep up that frenzy to the end.
The core idea of this game is that your skill is what matters… not your gear.
Thats funny. Skill. Hmmm…I’ll start this video about there. . .about skill. . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk-8Iph0PdU&feature=player_detailpage#t=253s
I watched this video yesterday. That guy is a total loser. He really loves to hear himself talk. I got a headache listening to him and can’t believe I actually wasted my time watching that entire video.
So Guild Wars 2 skill is based on timing. As long as time exists, timing will be an important basis for all activities requiring skill. You think hitting a major league baseball does not require timing? How about a one timer in hockey? No skill there? Even archery involves timing. You don’t just whip that bow up and let go, you let go at the right time, when you are lined up at the right moment. The body sways, it is important to wait until the conditions are right to release the arrow.
This is not a declaration that GW2 requires as much skill as some other games or activities. However, skill will improve the outcome.
The game was was over hyped.
Im not surprised the game dosent have a monthly fee as the content is very light.
Light compared to what? Unless you are comparing it to an ancient beast of an MMORPG, I am not convinced it is “light”.
I’m not talking about a “generic game.” Most games I’d agree with you. But if you give up on an MMO in two days, you were never really interested in it in the first place.
Maybe he isn’t interested. It is ok, but unfortunate for him that he bought it.
MMOs automatically require a MUCH larger time investment than general start-to-finish games. You cannot get a picture of how much you’re going to enjoy an MMO by only playing for two days.
I agree they tend to take more time. I just think if you don’t get it early on, you won’t get it later. Not much changes. In most MMORPGs rewards come fast and furious at the start and slow down over time. In GW2 the leveling curve has been flattened out. Not much changes other than a few new perks here and there.
You admit you quit after barely even playing an MMO? That is completely nonsensical.
Play for AT LEAST two weeks, then decide if you want to quit. I played Rift for a month before I decided that it wasn’t for me.
MMOs cannot be summed up in two days of play time. This is why all the big game review sites waited a week, or even several weeks, before reviewing the game.
Generally I don’t like the arguement that someone needs to commit two weeks to decide on a game. If I don’t like eating squid, why would I eat it for two weeks to make sure?
If you don’t like it, that is ok. Some people don’t get into certain things. Who can blame you. We only have so many hours of life. Spend them as you please.
It it too bad that you spent your money on something you don’t care for. Maybe come back in the future and check it out again. You never know what changes will happen.
I think GW2 questing is great. I would say the thing that stands out to me the most is that it cuts down on running time. Running is the biggest time sink in MMOs. I am tired of running back and forth to quest givers just for the sake of picking up a quest or turning it in. Those days are gone. Thank you ArenaNet for removing the ridiculous amounts of running!
How do you think Marathon 2012 would work out as a console game? I am surprised EA Sports hasn’t created a series.
I feel like people way overreact sometimes. Sure you are losing a bit of progress, but who hasn’t lost a little progress on most games? Think about single player games for example… Your game crashes and you haven’t saved in over an hour. Or it hasn’t crashed, you died, and haven’t saved in over an hour. I know it is not a perfect example, but truly, is this really that serious? I really know what it feels like to lose progress, as I have felt it many times throughout my life, but if you really do enjoy the game, why be so up in arms about it? We all know kitten happens (bests phrased in the movie Forest Gump). We all know ArenaNet was not out to get us. They had no intention of screwing us over. Please lighten up just a little and know they are trying to give you a good game. Many people have poured their souls into this.game.

I miss in GW1 where I could simply click on the target to run to it and attack. At the least I wish I could single click a target to auto-attack. I also wish the mouse cursor stood out a bit more. Gotta be honest but sometimes I lose track of my cursor on my 27 inch screen and I lose a lot of time wiggling the mouse to try locating it. I wish my cursor was more visible. I wish it was bigger and brighter, or even just brighter would probably help a lot.
If they make trial accounts, they should put all trials on a server dedicated to trials.
Play wrecklessly. Solved.
Does it need to be “addictive”? Do you really want to be psychologically dependent on this game?
Server transfer restriction without Guesting option in place?

GW2 is fun and all but i doubt its ever going to reach the amount of people WoW has. WoW is better in every aspect, this game requires very little skill to be good.
Like wow requires skill? lol
More or less the same amount of skill this game requires, just in different aspects.
Just curious, honestly, what level are you currently in this game?
The comment above implied that WoW requires skill. Very little in my opinion. It bores the hell out of me. I feel like at least with this game, mobility matters. Skill can change the outcome.
32 and 30 on an alt. What difference does it make? It will play the same at higher level. I am in no hurry to hit the top, because once I do, I won’t play much. Are you judging me based on my level? Lol
I was asking to see how much you have experienced the game. And how did mobility not matter in WoW? I’ve done many raids and dungeons where you need to to dodge, LoS, etc. in order to do well in a fight. The new things in GW2 gets old really fast, just wait a couple more levels and you might find yourself in the state of “I wont play much” much faster than you think.
I wouldn’t really call it dodging in WoW. Those occasions where positioning matters are rare. In this game active mobility matters for each encounter. I can take on large groups of mobs by staying mobile. It makes it fun to see how much trouble I can work my way out of sometimes by staying mobile and using different weapons.
Maybe it will get old, maybe it won’t. I still log into GW1 once in a while.

If you are calling this the best MMO with only 4 weeks of playing it, you are delusional, this game is nothing new, its Warhammer+Diablo sugar coated with nice graphics, WoW is and forever will be the best MMO in the market, 8 years and running baby!
What makes WoW the best? Certainly 8 years can’t have anything to do with it. Ultima Online has been online now for 16 years. Everquest has been alive now for over 13 years.
Forever is a long time. WoW will be forgotten some day.
Yet none of those retained the playerbase of WoW. Not to mention made a consistent millions of active players pay $15/m for it.
WoW won’t retain that player base forever either. Those mmorpgs I mentioned were at the forefront and revolutionized the genre which WoW has added too. Mmorpgs just weren’t as popular back then. Hell, internet wasn’t as widely available back then. Technology changed and WoW took advantage of newer technology at the right time. In my opinion a good deal of WoW’s success was due to timing. Once people are invested, they don’t want to give it up.
I always joke with one of my gaming friends that I am going to delete my WoW characters and be done with it. I haven’t done it yet, but it is very tempting to me… Not because of Guild Wars 2, but just because I will be acknowledging that I am done forever. I just don’t think I can ever enjoy it again.

Care to elaborate on those tweaks?
You can do perfectly fine in dungeons wearing magic find.
If you’re getting squashed wearing magic find, you’ll get squashed wearing any other gear, because you’re standing in the bad that’s squashing you either way.
It’s this mentality that is the problem.
It’s the player, not the gear.
You should probably realize that.
But the player that equips magic find is selfish and is not out to provide the maximum benefit to the group.
Agreed, people using magic find are leeching non-users for their own benefit.
I’m not sure where this mindset is coming from.
There’s still power and precision on the gear. You’re still providing benefit to the group.
You’re missing out on… what, maybe 10% combat effectiveness? If that?
Gear doesn’t matter much in this game. Player skill matters.
Even if you were wearing vit/tough/power gear, if you stand in the bad(like you’re saying they do) then you’re -going- to die. MF gear or not.
I would think this should be a consumable like Dead suggested. It just makes more sense. If people want to spend a little extra for a bonus magic find, eat a consumable. It just makes more sense than to have people equiping magic find. If the whole group did it, there is a good amount of lost benefit overall.
Bottom line is… if that difference is non-existent then why have equipment upgrades at all?
ZOMGZOZRZ Y U MF CONSUABLE ISNTEAD OF BESTEST CONSUMBLE?!1?1!?1?1/!?111
Yes, that will happen. If you don’t want people to “ruin” your dungeon experiences don’t go with randoms. Simple as that.
Lol you win.
I have to agree with morrigan. Bear mothers are very sad to kill. My first one I was running around mining and bears kept attacking me so id dispatch them with no bad feelings but a bear started running at me and I killed it then went to get the ore which was in a small cave and I saw a few bear cubs in the cave….looked back at the big bears corpse did /cry then put the cubs out of their misery…..I know I shouldn’t play god but they would have died without their mother anyways of starvation.
Someone tell me I did the right thing!
You killed the cubs as well!?!!?! How terrible!
I support this initiative!
That is up to the player.
I have an invisible 15-slot bag with my main gear to use it when the occasion arises. I appreciate the extra return with MF in a (so far) restrictive game world with gold sinks nearly outweighing rewards at level 80.
They just need to add an inspect feature so you can kick a player if he refuses to change to a more appropriate gear.
Illushia made a good point about the inspect feature. It is better not to have it. It prevents that kicking of a player over gear. Morally it is just wrong to boot someone because you don’t like what they are wearing.
they could make it so you unlock special skins at certain amounts of points without using them up.
Like 1000 points – unlock exotic skin 1
10000 points – unlock legendary skin 1
…
That is a good idea. A tiered reward system. I like it.
I just don’t think that ANet should limit players on what they can gear for, when most of the premise of this game is to let people use whatever gear they want.
The whole reason inspect isn’t in the game is so situations like they want don’t happen. “Oh you don’t have gear I approve of, you don’t get to come”.
ANet doesn’t like people being excluded for the way they gear, since every gearing combination, just about, is beneficial to everyone.
That is a good point about the inspect. That is fine by me. I just think they could remove that magic find upgrade and provide it another way so people will optimize their gear to be of more benefit. Maybe not the best benefit, but more beneficial than magic find.

Derry, you should probably put something about this in the suggestions thread. It is certainly worth a lengthy discussion there.

I like the way you are thinking derry. Although I am not at the level for Dungeons yet, I have to agree with your logic. Excellent point!
Please pay for so you can feel as though you are “winning”.
ANet needs your support. And I want updates.
Agreed. Don’t be cheap Ukaei.
For everyone calling this pay2win? Have you paid yet? Short of the game price, I haven’t and I don’t think most people have. I am having no trouble banking some gold. I guess I am a winner.

Wow looking at the forums, I thought I was the only one enjoying the game. I feel like the same old topics are brought up over and over. It is tiring to read and almost makes me want to stop reading them all together because it feels like there are so many people kittening all the time.
30 Ranger, 30 Warrior, 3 Necro, and 1 Thief
Rabbits, but I just can’t seem to stop.
