The way I see it, saying you are annoyed that S2 focuses on Sylvari, is akin to saying you are annoyed that American History focuses on America.

Overall, this was a good episode, if a bit short and ending with yet another cliff hanger. My gripe is overuse of cliff hangers diminishes the impact. And this makes, what, the 4th consecutive cliff hanger? Overall though, Season 2 has been fantastic.

In fantasy literature, arcana typically refers to the magical or mystical in nature.

It’s kind of like saying Bahamut is not a dragon in real world mythology. Real world rules don’t apply 100% of the time.

While I am unsure 100% if what was in Scarlet’s head was Mordremoth, the limited evidence we have does suggest it. What makes this concerning is so far we have very little to suggest the other Elder Dragons communicate so intimately with those they corrupt, even Zhaitan seemed to pretty much just let his champions serve him how ever they saw fit. This suggests that perhaps Mordremoth is far more intelligent than the other dragons, though we have not had much contact with Primordus, but he seems more the destructive rampage type. It is worrying that Mordremoth seems to be very tactically inclined if Scarlet was just a pawn for him the entire time and not acting on her own volition, as well as Aerin’s prattle to some voice only he could hear. The question is, how afraid should Tyria be of this ED as opposed to Jormag or Primordus?

Coming back for season 2: What have I missed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jinn Kazuma.2163

Jinn Kazuma.2163

First off, you only need ascended for high level fractals. Rares and exotics will suffice for literally every other part of the game.
Secondly, Megaservers broke up a lot of the cliquishness some servers experienced.
Thirdly, WvW Season 2 is over. You just missed it by a month.
Fourthly, you do not, I repeat, DO NOT need to throw money at anything to be competitive, nor has the game ever been like that. And don’t listen to anyone that says otherwise because it is blatantly false.
And lastly, play whatever the heck you want. Mesmers are very viable and desirable in groups as is every other class, assuming it’s not a group of “ZOMG ZERKER WAR ONLY” types.

Hope that helps somewhat. And welcome back.

Kiel??

in Lore

Posted by: Jinn Kazuma.2163

Jinn Kazuma.2163

If Kiel is some sort of villain mastermind, she is better at it than Khilbron ever was considering she has a majority of the player base convinced she is good as well as the NPCs. And if that is the case, then why was Scarlet (according to the forum hate train) so cliche and predictable? Does Kiel have writers that outclass every other writer at Anet? Do they have a separate team dedicated to just Kiel’s arc?

I played a game (can’t remember what it was called, was a long time ago on the PS1) that had white AE circles for allies and black for enemies. They were very easy to see and distinctive without being overwhelming. I keep hoping to see something like that make it’s way into GW someday.

Edit for clarity: The circles were not solid. They were more like the translucent red circles we saw at Assault Knights and Holo Prime in intensity.

Elder Dragons as Antagonists

in Living World

Posted by: Jinn Kazuma.2163

Jinn Kazuma.2163

Honestly, if you are going to take the time to compare something on the scale of an ED to something similar from another game, Final Fantasy 10’s Sin is the best place to start as Sin is basically on the same power scale. On top of this, they made bloody well sure the player understood very clearly how awesome Sin’s power was. By the time you actually face it, you pretty much wonder if it can even be defeated since every attempt to that point ended in either utter failure, or a short break in it’s destructive rampage (Which is not really a success, IMO).

I had kind of hoped they would have gone along that line for the Zhaitan fight, personally. Hit the dragon from various sides to bring it down, weaken it, then finish it off from up close in some fashion.

My point is, I do sort of agree with the OP, they really do need to do a better job of making us understand the threat these creatures pose instead of just telling us “be scared of that thing. it’s big and mean.”

How do you "casual" ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jinn Kazuma.2163

How do I “casual?” Let’s see, first I put on my WW1 era pilot goggles, grab a bottle of rum, log in, select my warrior, and run dungeons and fractals half drunk while screaming into teamspeak. Somehow my guild doesn’t hate me yet.

Knights core.

in Living World

Posted by: Jinn Kazuma.2163

Jinn Kazuma.2163

Cores only add a colored glow (red, blue, or green) after the ascended piece is crafted (straight ascended has a yellow/orange glow). There are thousands of cores on the TP for very cheap, so that is the easiest, and currently only way to get them now that the event is over.

So, after a very successful Knight event, the people at green ported up to Breachmaker, and stand around waiting for holo prime to spawn when we noticed something odd. A dynamic hologram is already active, shielded, and at 80% health. We think, “oh, we can just avoid that side of the room.” This works. At first. Then she becomes mobile and starts AoE spamming us. Things went horribly wrong from there. needless to say we did not complete the event. Then my game crashed, though I suppose that is completely unrelated.

As you can see from the attached images, this was not how first phase of Holo Prime should function.

Orr: Over a year later and still unchanged

in Living World

Jinn Kazuma.2163

I kind of feel like we are underestimating just how corrupted Orr is. Sure we reversed the continuing corruption. But Zhaitan (the lore version, not the actual in game version) was immensely powerful and one would assume the corruption at the heart of his domain runs deep. For all we know, it could take anywhere from a week, to a hundred years to become habitable again. As for the undead, just remember how many thousands he threw at us and how many we found in Orr. The undead will likely linger on for awhile, especially while who knows how many of his lieutenants are still out there.

6 gods / 6 elder dragons... hmmm

in Living World

Posted by: Jinn Kazuma.2163

Jinn Kazuma.2163

The problem with this theory is how often certain mantles of power of been passed to new gods (Abaddon > Kormir [who was a mortal in every sense of the word]/ Dhuum > Grenth) And then you have Menzies and Dhuum who still very much exist even if they are…contained. And Menzies, for all his mystery, is still very much god like in power as we saw in the Realm of Torment and the Underworld with vast legions of shadowy minions. So, in actuality there are eight god like beings currently in existence that we know of, possibly more that just never had the motivation to make a power play in any realm a mortal can visit.

Tower Floor 3 is anti-social

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: Jinn Kazuma.2163

Jinn Kazuma.2163

I don’t agree that the third floor is anti-social. If anything, it encourages commanders such as myself, to revive everyone, and leave no one behind. The third floor pretty much demands that players work together, and move as a group. That’s a good thing. If people leave players behind, then that’s simply a poor strategy on their part.

This on so many levels. If I see people that have died on the way up, I frequently pop my commander tag and start reviving them, as there is generally quite a few and by the time I am done, we more often then not have a zerg milling about waiting for us to start moving. Seems many people can’t figure out how to work together without the magical blue dorito to congregate at.

Just to point out to all the doomsayers, Everquest, yes one of the grandfathers of graphical MMOs as we know them, still is quite lively with casual and hardcore players and a new expansion (#18 I think it is). If you are really worried about some next big thing killing off GW2, just look at the old MMOs that are still around releasing content every few months. WoW coughing out another expansion will do little to GW2.

Levels segregate the game world

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jinn Kazuma.2163

Jinn Kazuma.2163

As someone that has played MMORPGs since the early days of EQ1, countless single player RPGs, D&D, and a load of other games that involve leveling, I can say with certainty that the leveling system in GW2 is easily one of the best (No hell levels being a huge +). For once in a game I did not worry about my level, as just doing the content available at each level was enough to move me to the next area. It’s not a grind, in fact it is a rather organic experience. Instead of grinding my face off for days to enjoy the game, I got to enjoy it with the very first tutorial instance.

Now, you could bring up games like EVE, but that also has leveling. You are skill gated behind sometimes MASSIVE time sinks (Marauders come to mind) so that style is no different. Heck, even Minecraft has levels now, not that they really mean much outside a few spiffy mods, but they are still there because people wanted them.
People have mentioned FPS games in reference to level-less games, how many FPS games have levels today, levels that dictate what weapons you can and can’t use? How many of them are multiplayer?

Just to note, almost every level-less RPG I have played was kind of a disaster in implementation. A bit like communism: Looks great on paper, put it in practice and everything falls apart.

If Anet uses that title for GW3, I don’t even want a check, just a character in my likeness voiced by Claptrap.

Really? Cartoons can’t be dark? I would like to draw Transformers:Prime. It is easily one of the darkest shows I have watched in a long time and I watch Walking Dead. And I am twenty seven. Disproved your entire argument. Now to tell you why it is even further incorrect.

Besides, GW2 already has a pretty grim storyline. World on the brink of disaster. Monolithic dark god-thing with an army of undead people, animals, and even plants preparing for a major offensive. Oh yeah, and there are betrayals. Sure, not to the extent of Khilbron from GW1, but there are some in there. So, I must ask: Did you even pay attention to the story?

Not a great idea for such a young MMO

in Living World

Posted by: Jinn Kazuma.2163

Jinn Kazuma.2163

OTOH…how about ArenaNet let the races kludge together something that allows players to visit a dreamstate or spirit realm or some such where these events are eternally active? That way new players can see a recreation of the event (and more importantly, get the achievements and loot from it! ;-) ), without having to keep them active world-wide. A Tyrian version of Paragon City’s Ouroboros, if you will..

Neat idea. Or they could make a library in LA. If you take out a specific book about a past event you can read about each event … but instead of “reading” about the event, you could play through the event and get the rewards.

This is actually a very similar method used for the bonus mission DLC from GW1. You went to a special scholar NPC and picked up a book which transported you into a mission as the story’s main character. It was pretty awesome.
