1. Stand close enough to him so that you’re almost touching his red ring but not quite pushing him.

yeh i know that, the domes are only a problem when he does his “big aoe” (whne lupi lifts up in the air) and i need to leap to him that part is allways kida dodgy for me. i eather eviterate or gs rush to him, but sometimse he domes me anyway :P, and i dont understand why.

That part can be kinda tough, immediately when he lands you have to get right back into position. Even if you’ve done it a hundred times you can still screw up sometimes and get bubbled.

Need help picking a class

I’m thinking guardian. They support very well, solo very well, and they also can do a load of damage for speedruns. They’re also very survivable. Since you mentioned offensive support, a warrior might be your thing, too. They have a fire field, many blast finishers, group fury and might, and banners are among the best offensive support in the game. It’s not really a “always on your toes” gameplay style though.

Overall I think guardian would be your best bet. You’re always on your toes watching your group to cleanse bad conditions and applying aegis to help your group tank the big hits. You can also use your greatsword to move the mobs around for your group. You do a ton of damage, you can solo very well, and you’re very tanky.

Advice for an Arah newb

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Jon.3752

Jon.3752

So I’ve done every path in every other dungeon except for Arah (and two paths of CM but that’s just because I don’t really have any interest in it right now) and I would like to give it a try soon. The things is, is that I’m kind of nervous I guess because my newbyness. I’m wondering which path(s) would be the best for a first attempt and what to keep in mind whilst doing them. I’d prefer to not have to look up guides or videos simply for spoiler reasons (unless I ABSOLUTELY have to). I’m thinking I’d stick to one path for a while and get a good feel for things before moving to the others.

Path 3 is the easiest. Pugging Arah is a nightmare, though. I’d try to look for a group of experienced players that’ll take you through. Check out this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Arah-Vets-grouping-together-to-do-Arah-Runs/first

Also if you do end up wanting to look at a guide, I recommend this site: http://gw2dungeons.net/

Good luck!

Lupicus-no energy sigil possible?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

The game must be telling me to use an energy sigil. It dropped me one from fractals lol. I will try my hand at lupi again after I craft an ascended mace and use my fractal sword with energy sigil. Once again thx everyone for your input.

Good luck man! I’ve soloed him a few times on warrior so you can whisper me anytime if you need some help.

Do people still run TA's new path?

I thought it was pretty fun, but they need to up the rewards if they want people to do it more. And give an option to skip all of the cutscenes, too. Right now the time and effort isn’t worth the reward.

Boss Stacking

Personally I do hope Queen Spider’s issue gets fixed. I really have no problem with stacking Kholer or Rumbly or whatever else in that dungeon. Stacking Queen Spider in that little room feels kinda cheap. I’d like it if she spit her poison no matter what distance the group was from her. I’ll still do it until it gets fixed (if it does) because it’s braindead easy, but I think the fight could be a lot more challenging.

Get a good guild and some cool friends and do whatever with them. That’s what keeps me logging on. Maybe start making a legendary if you have the gold for it. That’s a good motivator.

LFG problems and suggestions

Alright, just to start, I understand where you’re coming from, but you’re asking for a kittenstorm. I did read the last sentence, yes, but people are still going to turn this into a casual vs elitist cesspool.

One of my favorite, and a lot of peoples favorite thing in this game is the fact that you can competently clear a dungeon with any class setup. You don’t have to wait in queue for 30 minutes for a tank or a healer. You can just join a pug group and blow through the dungeon with whatever the hell you want. Adding an option to deny certain classes from joining your group would ruin that. Adding an option to block people who don’t have a certain amount of achievement points would ruin that. If you want a certain class setup, just say in the description “need 2 warriors and an ele for a speedrun.” If you were a ranger and you were looking for a group for a quick CoF and you found that every available group has blocked rangers from their party, that would suck, wouldn’t it?

I do agree with your point about getting kicked out of the dungeon you created. That’s bull.

Blackgate and JQ I’ve noticed are the best for open world PvE. I constantly have JQ guested and between those two servers, I never struggle to find other players out in the world.

New to the Dungeon Scene, looking for advice!

Welcome to level 80! You made a good choice picking warrior. They’re an incredibly solid class for dungeons. The dungeons can be challenging or they can be very easy, depending on your group comp, and the skill and gear of the players. Most people I’ve noticed in pugs have patience for noobs, AS LONG as you let them know you’re new in the beginning of a dungeon. Some people are kittens and will immediately kick you, but if that happens, just keep trying. Or, you can look up a dungeon guide before you actually join a group so you have an idea of what’s going to happen. Maybe even watch a few videos. I’d highly recommend finding a good guild you can run dungeons with without feeling pressured.

As a warrior, your responsibilities will be supplying your group with fury, might, and banners. The most common banners people bring to a dungeon group is strength and discipline. You will also bring “For Great Justice!” to supply your group with might and fury. If you’re the only warrior, bring both strength and discipline, and in the beginning of the dungeon, ask the group who’s going to carry your second banner. Make sure someone is carrying your second banner from fight to fight since you can’t carry both.

Depending on how much gold you have, I’d buy exotics right off the bat. I wouldn’t recommend buying rares. If you can’t afford that, just buy greens and do dungeons and different gold making methods like champ farming and open world events to make gold. You can also buy gear with dungeons tokens. Do dungeons where you can get berserker gear. I would recommend CoF paths 1 and 2 and CoE all paths since they’re pretty easy and pugs don’t usually fail at them.

You don’t have to do story mode to enter explorable mode. Someone who’s done story mode can open the explorable dungeon for everyone else, so I wouldn’t worry about story modes unless you want your dungeon master title or you’re interested in the lore of the dungeons. Some of them are pretty interesting. SE story is probably my favorite. I actually have a bit more fun in story mode than I do in most explorables.

Yes, there are a few consumables. I would recommend buying dragon’s breath buns candied dragon rolls, and slayer potions. Use them all the time. The foods are cheap enough that you can use them constantly. Use dragon’s breath if you’re going to be killing mobs constantly to take advantage of the proc, and use candied dragon rolls otherwise.

If you watch dungeon videos, you can probably get away with faking it. Unless someone asks if anyone hasn’t done it before, then I would absolutely not lie about it.

You can pretty much jump into any dungeon. I would say they’re all very comparable in terms of difficulty except Arah. Fractals of the Mists also begins to get challenging at around scale 20.

Good luck! And you can whisper me ingame if you need any extra tips. I have 1.8k hours played on warrior and I can help you through a few dungeons if you want.

dungeon X "all stack"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

I’ll agree with alpha, but not with spider queen, since it won’t use it’s poison as long everyone is melee, stacking ins’t needed, it just makes cleaving the adds easier.

Oh, my bad. I didn’t realize that. I thought it was in that little room where she wouldn’t use her poison as long as she’s tucked in the corner.

dungeon X "all stack"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Jon.3752

I think stacking is fine, it’s just cleverly abusing the AI. A few problems though.

In AC on the spider queen, she does not use her poison AoE while everyone is stacked in the corner. This kinda trivializes the encounter in my opinion. You’ll notice if someone is not stacked correctly in the corner, because when that happens the spider queen will actually use her poison AoE skill and deal mongoloid damage to the whole party.

In CoE paths 1 and 3, alpha uses a cone skill called Tooth of Modremoth. While you’re standing inside of him, it deals no damage to you. If you can get him pushed into a wall with the entire party inside of his hitbox, the encounter is trivialized. If he starts moving around, it actually becomes challenging because of the amount of teeth damage the group is taking.

A few enemies can be revamped to make them impossible to stack. Imagine if spider queen refused to leave her room and come into the corner with you. Imagine if subject alpha jumped away before he attacked someone with tooth.

Lupicus-no energy sigil possible?

In the phase 2 transition you’ll always get hit by a grub. Just run away from him so you get knocked down out of range of him, then kill it when you get back up. If he consumes it, it’s not the BIGGEST deal.

The most consistent methods for dodging his frenzied blast in phase 2 I’ve found is dodging backwards and using sword #5, and if that’s on cooldown, dodging backwards and using GS #3 into him. If both of those abilities are down somehow, dodge backwards and then dodge back into him.

All of his animations just take practice to get used to. Watch some solo videos and make notes of what animations he does while he’s using an ability.

A good way to get out of his AoE in phase 3 is to dodge away to avoid the first tick, then use GS #3 away to avoid the second tick, then come back in after it ends. And even though you don’t like using greatsword, I think you should definitely consider using it for this boss. Having that extra dodge is great against him.

Good luck!

Thief or Ranger?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Jon.3752

Jon.3752

Rangers get a lot of hate, but they’re actually really good. Warhorn has a mini “FGJ” and sword deals a decent amount of damage. Frost spirit and spotter adds a great deal of damage to your whole party. Dagger swap offhand has a free dodge. Overall it’s a great class if you play it right.

Thief deals a ton of damage and gets a lot better if the group is setting up might for him. They also bring stealth for tough skipping sections.

I’d personally pick ranger.
