Toughness - What does it do?

in Guardian

Jonas.9716

100% of toughness is added to armor. The damage you take from any attack is determined using this formula:

Damage done = (weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)

So there’s no way to say that +X toughness = Y% reduction, but it’s safe to say that toughness always helps protect you. Condition damage is not reduced by armor. Having said that, being focused by a player under any circumstances will kill you quickly unless you pop the right skills/evade the right things.

Visibility of When DR is Applying

By ‘do something else’ I meant ‘run a dungeon or change zones’. My understanding is that the DR applies on a per-zone basis.

Edit: I realize bots are an annoyance but they are a small minority compared to players who try to farm genuinely. It doesn’t seem fair that to deal with bots, ANet is creating a situation where they are effectively wasting their players’ time.

Visibility of When DR is Applying

I think there should be some sort of indicator that lets a player know when the diminishing return for farming is active on them. It could be anything from a debuff (-X% Magic Find or whatnot) to an in-game message like the ones GW1 did to tell you you’ve been playing too long. It’d be really helpful if I could know whether I’m just having bad luck or if I’ve triggered the DR and should go do something else.

Lodestone prices [Merged]

in Black Lion Trading Co

I’d like to point out that the charged lodestones are used in a few other things. Mjolnir, for instance, requires the Gift of Lightning (250 lodestones) + 100 extra lodestones. The Foefire’s ____ weapons, Eidolon, and Aether, also require the Gift of Light.

Edit: Not saying that this is a reason why they’re so expensive, I’m saying that the lodestone prices are annoying more than those after legendaries.

Maces from the Mystic Forge...

I was reading the wiki’s list of ‘other’ MF recipes (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items) and I noticed that there aren’t any for maces. Anyone know a mace recipe other than the Mystic Cudgel?

I beg you, don't increase the level cap

Guild Wars 1 went through three campaigns and one expansion without changing the level cap. You’re more likely to see new utilities/elites/weapons than you are to see new levels in my opinion.

What's the Diminishing Return Threshold?

I know you can only complete one dungeon path each day, but I’ve got a few spare hours (4-5), some dvds I wanna watch running on the tv next to me, and not much else to do. I’m planning to get some lodestone farming in but I’d like to know how long I have in each area before DR starts kicking in. Anyone know how long it takes? Only info I’ve been able to find is vague at best.

Charged Lodestone price going up too fast

in Crafting

Jonas.9716

Charged lodestones are so pricy because the elementals only appear while the Altar of Dwayna is controlled. So you’ve got like an hour window to farm for a rare mat, which is why the price goes up.

30 in Virtues?

I like the idea of virtues. I think they’re a neat concept and I like the virtues tree for the most part. I think it could be possible to use a 30 point investment in Virtues to create a build where the empowered virtues let you free up space for other utilities.

http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mccoMM9cmbvRmmomRm9MaxxVMabcsa

Purity, Signet of Resolve, and Absolute Resolution should be enough for average condition concerns, but the option still exists to take Pure of Voice should that be an issue. You don’t have Altruistic Healing but the boost to Virtue of Resolve and the ability to make your symbols heal is still there, plus more constant aegises (agei?) that you can adjust to heal yourself on end.

The utilities are more or less up in the air right now. I’m figuring that using various Virtue empowerments (stunbreaking courage for instance) would let you free up utility slots for those favored skills you don’t have room for normally.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I was mainly thinking about PvE when I did this.

The Mesmers Old Skills From Guild Wars 1 !

I miss interrupting. It’s a lot harder to get the timing right on normal mob attacks and most champs/bosses are immune (some even without Defiant active). I get why it has to be like that, but it’s still a letdown

wrathful spirit question

Jonas.9716

My suggestion is to cast Retreat or Courage active and see what happens when the aegis from it naturally expires. Other than that my initial instinct is that it applies the buff when aegis either absorbs an attack or expires naturally. On another note, I’m not sure its possible to actually dispel aegis since it’d probably Block whatever attack has the ripping effect.

How Does Burning Stack from Multiple Sources?

in Guardian

Posted by: Jonas.9716

Jonas.9716

Ok, so my understanding is that Burning differs from, say, Bleeding, in that adding burning to an already ignited target will simply increase the duration of the DoT rather than add damage to it. If multiple burns are applied from different characters, how is the damage determined? Will the burn use the highest of the source’s +condition damage? The CD of the most recently applied burn?

Help! I have no idea what I'm doing!

I played a mesmer in GW1 and I loved it. I really enjoyed being able to do builds that could disrupt and shut my opponent down or punish them if they tried anything (though not in the same build). Right now though, I’m struggling to find that kind of playstyle in GW2. Anyone have a suggestion for capturing the mesmer feel of yore? I play PvE primarily.

Makes sense. Tanky Retaliation would be power/vit/toughness I assume and Tanky Burn would be Tough/Vit/Condition damage?

Retributive Builds?

in Guardian

Posted by: Jonas.9716

Jonas.9716

I’m currently trying to do a sort of “touch me and die” build since I like the idea of punishing opponents. Currently I’m using Defender’s Flame (burns for 1sec on blocking), Vengeful (Retaliation lasts 25% longer), Smite Conditions, Wall of Reflection, Signet of Judgment, Shelter, and a Mace/Focus + Greatsword or Hammer.

Still not sure if this is a good setup though, so I’m looking for any suggestions on how to improve or what stats to build for. I’m primarily PvE.
