Game Updates: Traits

As it stands at the moment, I’m waiting for Anet to fix the trait system. I can’t play my new ele, knowing how much more I have to invest just to get a trait (not even talking about the lv30 issue) than what I used to and how I am getting nothing new in return for the added investment.

I’ve seen more issues leveling up now, than when I was using my 80 and that has it’s own issues. Leveling is just the worst it’s been. I’d rather play Skyrim for it’s incredibly dull gameplay, over trying to overcome the obstacles of leveling. And when I get to 80, what would I get? The same endgame every one has had for the last year and a half.

I’m honestly waiting for Archeage now, or I may start FFXIV as that is the best on the market at the moment. I feel tired and bored after mere minutes of logging in, as the game has made itself a checklist and it’s an absolute chore. Why implement a trait switching system, when the traits aren’t even obtainable until you’re 20 levels above getting the second trait?

Anet has just made stupid mistakes after the next, not even asked the community if this would actually be a step that we would appreciate, and it’s just draining to play this kitten.

Aside from the fact that we now get 5 trait points every 6 levels, when before we got 1 trait point / level.. having a net loss of 1 Point every 5 levels. I do Not see How this is so horrid as some claim.

Before I would level… 2 or 3 or 4 levels in a Given session, and forget to even apply the points, because… + 10 power or + 1 % condition duration, did not mean much.

so:

30 + 1 Trait point
31 + 1
32 + 1
33 + 1
34 + 1
35 + 1
36 + 1

is no worse than:

30 +1 new trait point = + 5 old.
31
32
33
34
35
36 +1 new trait point = + 5 old.

Wait I think My math is bad… that looks Like + 3 net gain on trait points. I Must be wrong. That would just make the levelling experience seem Like there is more of a feel of pregressing…. at least for me.

Maybe I am missing something. But at least in MY experience…. getting that trait point before meant almost nothing. Could it be this is Just an irrational fear of the nerf that is really not much of a nerf experience wise?

Edit:

I Know that many will say that before 30 there were 19 trait points that are now Lost.. but..My experience of Mobs is… we don’t need them, the game is absurdly easy even if you don’t spend a single trait point.

So ignoring that you would have had 2 complete trait lines, and could experiment with a build, you now have 4 utterly useless levels. What you just said was kitten (1 trait per level), is now even worse since you don’t get that 10 power every level, nor are you getting a trait every 5.

As suggested by someone else, if you never pay for the traits, all builds will end up 5/5/5/5/5 until they can actually earn a trait in that 50 or 60 zone. the experimentation with these new builds is staggering. You could go 5/5/5/5/5 or 5/5/5/5/5 or 5/5/5/5/5.

Whether it is easy or not, isn’t the issue. There is no indication of any power difference. A pre-patch Warrior at 40 could experiment with the GS/A+M build people used, they could see how beneficial that 3 seconds of weapon swapping is whilst having increased movement speed. A post-patch Warrior can’t even see that until 50-60.

Everything is staggered to this endgame Anet want you to get to, but have made an absolute chore to do so. I have 4 characters prior to this and never once complained about leveling them up. Deleted a mid-level Guardian for an Ele and can’t believe how dull it is leveling. Seeing the pop-up on screen infuriates me as nothing happens, I grow no stronger nor can I make an investment towards a build I want.

Why is everyone glossing over the fact leveling up means nothing in this anymore? Are you happy that the game has transitioned into this dull clicking game?

4 levels have no purpose anymore. Anet have literally removed the purpose they had, thus reducing their worth.

Trans Stones have been removed, so 2 Map Completions would net you a full gear appearance has now become 6 Map Completions which is also the same currency used when you are 80.

You have to spend 40+ Gold, 80+ Skill Points just to have what would have costed 4 Gold.

There’s NO incentive. AT ALL. What does anyone get coming into this game, that someone on an 80 character doesn’t have? What justifies 10x the Gold required with an additional 80 traits? Is my experience anymore enjoyable that what they had? No because they spent 5 silver max just to respec whilst we have to spend 2 Gold and 2 Skill points to get a single trait.

If Anet seriously wanted to enforce grinding, fine. Enforce the Train even further by marking each champ in Queensdale globally 24/7 across every single character. It’s clearly what Anet want.

@LanfearShadowflame I’m not debating the 5 skill points to 1. That’s fine. HOWEVER, there has to be something ,ore worthwhile than 20 more hp, every time I level whilst waiting for the next skill point 4 more levels down.

30 = Gear, SP, Trait
31 = SP
32 = SP
33 = SP
34 = SP
35 = Gear (If you’re doing it be 5’s, most by 10), SP
36 = Trait, SP
37 = SP
38 = SP
39 = SP
40 = Gear, SP

Spend 2 of those SP to unlock a trait, considering the ridiculous quests for the current lv, and the progressions 3x slower. That is a PAINFULLY slow progression system. Once you get to 80, the game’s functions open up and it’s completely different. Trans Crystals are worthwhile, SP’s becomes a much more accessible currency with the rapid progression, builds are made and changed on the fly, etc…

The new functions implemented like re-traiting on the fly, is not even experienced whilst leveling. The systems brought in, don’t measure up to what they’ve changed and taken away.

And as for those saying consider this a new experience; I AM. I am leveling up with this new patch. I am trying to give it a chance, but the fundamentals have been altered to a system that hasn’t been reworked entirely.

If they wanted to condense the traits from 5 = 1, then the lv cap should have been 30 rather than leave it at 80.

A trait a level starting at 15, condense zones from 1-15 to 1-5 and handout 5-6 skill points per level. That is a system they’ve implemented halfway, didn’t bother to calculate the existing elements like the 4 useless levels, and just threw the patch out there.

I’ve always forgot to buy tomes on my characters and never had your problem. Now the mobs are even weaker. I don’t know what you are talking about.

So you have no input on no Trans Stones, that leveling is even more of a chore and that the costs for Traits is just ridiculous? Regardless of when you bought the tomes, every character now has nothing. They will continue to have nothing, until you spend time grinding or spent time doing something that you don’t want to do to get a single trait.

If you don’t get 100% in Gendarren Fields, kill that champ in some abadoned zone, complete that quest that always fails, then you’re are going to have to run Queensdale train for Skillpoints or have to give up what little customisation you have to get one or two traits.

And there are people thinking that leveling is the best its been.

I have seen that, but I would also ask what was their experience like once they ventured past Queensdale or DIDN’T repeat those events in the zone they were in 10 minutes ago.

Relying on Megaservers to better the experience is like relying on the Devil with your soul. Who knows where people are, IF they want to do the activities you are doing or want to do? Go into Queensdale and EVERYONE is running train because Anet has reinforced that even more for a source of income. Hit lv 10, and every area was empty where there were no champs.

And having 3 people with you for the ride of grinding, doesn’t make it any less of a chore than what it’s become.

I have leveled a Mesmer prior to this patch, ankitten ow leveling up an Ele in this patch. It is just horrible. I feel 20-30% weaker.

I would currently have an additional 100 power, and 2 traits to boot. I don’t have that, and have to roam in the 1-15 zones STILL because I’m that much weaker. The armour repair costs don’t exist because of how weak every pre-80 character is.

There is no reason for the 5 filler lvs from 31-36 as they serve no purpose, give you no boosts aside from a skill point. Since Masterwork gear only advances every 5 levels, thats 4 levels of flat out grinding. Aside from Fiery Greatsword, I have all of my Abilities on my bar. Skill points mean nothing to me.

Does Anet not realise how dull it is to level in this system. I see that I level up in game, and don’t even care/react. I’m getting nothing. I play this for about 20 minutes before I’m already bored. I either carry on simply just to get to another level so that I have 1 less level to go, or I play another game. That’s TERRIBLE that this game is in that state.

Everything has been massively hampered for any character not already 80. Not only does my guy look like kitten as the Trans Crystals have become a lv 80 ‘pleasure’, but I’m struggling to actually get anywhere with my character. I’ll elaborate a bit on the Crystals before I continue to rant.

The Crystals haven’t really changed from what we already had. They’re just more accessible. What HAS happened though, is that I can’t even enjoy my character looking like an adventurer rather than just some pleasant from LOTR that’s just wondered through Mordor without lessening my enjoyment of the wardrobe come lv 80. Prior to the patch, when you get 2 map completions, you can look half decent when you upgrade your gear. The removal of stones, with no effective replacement for pre-80 skins has hampered lv 80’s in another customization section.

Granted skins mean ultimately nothing when leveling, but it annoys me as I’m sure others that the removal of the Stones with an awful 3:1 conversion is hindering the experience a bit.

Back onto leveling. I can’t even fundamentally change the way my character is, until I hit lv 30 and even then I’m 15 lvs behind what I would have been, because I have no traits or bonus points in any skills to allocate. I can’t opt for more regen or opt for that lava font boon, because I have to be half way to max level to even DECIDE which trait I want.

And this is without even mentioning the cost of traits. A single trait is the same as what a book cost with the added cost of skill points… WHAT?! So not only do I have less options in customising my character, by I have to also waste points and silver/gold on traits as well? Sure they may be unlockable, but is it really a feasible idea that I should 100% Gendarran Fields for a 6-7th time for a single trait?

Now I can afford to buy traits. Others can’t. Anet has encouraged the use of Queensdale Train as the means to grind Skill Points and money to even afford any changes to what little a build someone might be able to put together, and have inadvertently caused endgame builds to become even more optimal or meta. Why would I even care that I can retrait on the fly, when people can’t afford any of the traits or skills because of the ridiculous costs?

This patch sure is good for every 80 character out there, but has took a massive kitten on everyone trying to lv an alt or anyone trying to get into the game. It has made everyone weaker, VERY narrow character building and little to no customisation from one person to the next.

Sorry for the wall of text, but Anet needs to fix these issues because I’m not wasting my effort and time if they can’t be bothered to make the experience enjoyable/entertaining.

I would say yes to this, however I feel like this is a ‘fix’ to an issue that shouldn’t exist.

Looking on the Gem store and with say the Flamekissed gear, it’s clear as day to see that the Light/Medium gear is in another world to that of the Heavy Gear. I can pick and choose, but the Droconic gear pales to that of the Duelist set.

Some sets just look so uninspired, while others looked shoe-horned into fitting a set template.

I’d want the main hub to be in the sky, like an all-seeing land that isn’t affected by the worries of nearby lands. I’m bored of wooden bridges, green hills and rocky mountains everywhere. Lion’s Arch should have the grandeur of Divinity’s Reach, the technology from Rata sum, the slums beneath similar to the inner structure of The Black Citadel, the idols from Hoelbrak, and the beauty of the Grove.

Ultimately the hate is boiled down to;
If I max out this class, and play to the absolute peak of the learning curve, am I going to see the same rewards or better than other classes?

The answer is no. A moderate Warrior will outdo an Expert Ranger (PvE or PvP), simply because the Warrior sees a greater return than the Ranger. That curve on Class vs Class diminishes, but it still exists and the Ranger is at the bottom.

I’m not questioning whether you are a good ranger/player or not. I’m simply saying that the Ranger doesn’t see as great as a reward as others, when they put in the same if not more investment into the Ranger.

People won’t leave to play TESO. The game is riddled with more fundamental problems than GW believe it or not.

Both games are very similar in play style, i like teso better just because the amount of diversity in builds, and cryodill is bigger than all the gw2 wvsw maps combined, and you get mounts, and having such a large area to play, there is more smaller battles going on on the outskirts of the big zerg battles.

The game hasn’t had time to develop a Meta, but there is always something that is “OP” or more “optimal”. TESO may have bigger maps, but that also brings in barren wastelands. Simple roaming is plagued with nothing between the quest giver and the objective. And then in PvP, once you arrive at the enemy fort and die, you have to spend 10 mins trying to get back to where you were. 10 mins of simple Auto-Running… Fun.

It’s not the players fault that rangers suck, ANet has produced a poor, non-functioning, badly traited, non-synergistic, bugged profession that lacks damage, utility and defense and diversity. The best damage is to play as a warrior, but you are pants compared to a warrior and if you want to play range then pretty much every other profession has better ranged options than the ranger.

Then there is the pet.

Even good players bring very little to a party. Playing a ranger is a selfish role-play indulgence. The question is will ANet change that after that huge CDI that just closed. My guess is no, they will just tinker around the edges and rangers will be just as bad as ever. Just look at what they are giving rangers in the new trait system, you will now be able to spend trait points to remove one of the suckiest problems with long bows. Rather than fix the sucky problem they make rangers have to spend traits to fix the bad design. What’s next, an new trait called pet training to make you pet AI not so utterly kittened? Other professions get bug fixes, rangers don’t unless the “bug” was in the rangers favour.

Nobody in ANet plays a ranger as main and it REALLY shows.

Everything above can be argued against and proven wrong. :/ I will give you only the traits could be arranged better, as well as some bugs.

And for the zillionth time, Ranger has nothing to do with range-has had never, ever anything historically to do with the verb “to range”, other than some Rangers have been archers (and certainly not all).

The fact ANet had a guy say; “If you’re a Ranger with a bow, you’re doing it wrong” is right on the money as to what ANet think of the class. The fact that bows aren’t even viable by that guy’s (ANet employee) standard means that even trying to main a range option is out of the question thus limiting ‘viable’ builds.

There should be way more benefit to a Ranger opting for Bow, than a Warrior with a Rifle except there isn’t. I’m not expecting someone to be able to just kite all day and do insane damage with a Pet for harass, just wish that it were a ‘viable’ option.

NO ONE hates the Profession Ranger as a CONCEPT. The execution is god awful, and that’s why everyone hates it.

Read again. Not everybody hates it. I love it (thus invalidate your statement) even though there are things that could have been implemented better.

Managing the pet correctly takes some practice and I know of people that would like to play a ranger, but don’t care for the mandatory pet. So, they just let it tag along and then they complain that the ranger sucks…

No one can say that the Ranger is on par with any other class, without putting their creditability into question. If you like that the class is rubbish by comparison to whatever class you run, go ahead. The Ranger suffers in every area, damage, survivability, support and the pet does not function nearly as well as it should be.

You can’t defend the pet AI, when ANet already have a semi-fix on the way already acknowledging that it’s lacking. The Pet can’t hit a moving target, it’s stats are hideously poor since it has no scaling factor other than levelling which means you’re already missing 50% of the Pet’s health and damage it should possess, and it fails to obey on command (as admitted by ANet).

Even after the pet is fixed, there is still the issue of the trait line being awfully built. Arrows actually making their mark is a GM trait. A GM?! 30 points to fix an issue, which should have been just a hotfix.

ANet haven’t done the class any justice. We’d all love to play Ranger, but knowing that I’m hindered by all of these issues makes it a chore just to overcome the pet AI let alone everything else.

Who cares if it’s 10% or 20% or 30%. As long as berserker is getting nerfed so other builds are more wanted. Like support, CC builds and tankish builds.

Except it hasn’t. The nerf literally only means that fights will take 10-20 secs longer than they already are, which misses the issue. If the AI actually was a threat (looking at Lupicus), then not everyone would run Berserkers. The AI hasn’t changed, conditions are still the same, and crit builds are 20%, but still outshine everything else.

If ANet were truly worried about de-scaling, then they would have made it 10-12 points for 1% Crit damage.

As it is, Berserkers is still the only way to go. Since there is no additional source of damage from another slot outside what we have, and a simple hit in damage, ANet have done nothing but slow everything down. They haven’t fixed nor solved any issues.

NO ONE hates the Profession Ranger as a CONCEPT. The execution is god awful, and that’s why everyone hates it.

ANet have defended the class by saying that if you are using a bow, you aren’t playing it right… What? The Ranger shouldn’t fight AT RANGE?! The damage is poor and the AoE sucks. The Trait line is a mess, the AI is beyond poor, and this all makes the character as an individual massively lacking.

The reason the character’s stats are so poor, is because ANet think the Pet should be 50% of the damage and health. That’s fair enough, IF the Pet scaled by your gear and actually did what you told it to do. Of which, it does not.

The Ranger is always seeing nerfs, the Spirit build is really the only viable build of which many other classes can do AND MORE. The brand new GM trait is just a fix for what should already be built in. Better speed? No damage or utility? Why bother…

We’d all love to get the Ranger to work and to feel at least on par with every other class (except for Warrior and Guardian’s, since they are massively broken). Until ANet fire their entire Ranger Development Team, the class will never be what we all envision it to be.

ANet Logic - Nerf = Balance

JustARTificial.3175

I’m a little unsure what this post is speaking about. 10% decrease in full berserker builds is just a part of the patch.

In case you haven’t noticed, they’re also planning to introduce several new traits, rune balances and sigils. If you’re seriously suggesting that instead of nerfing berserker in the process of polishing their content they should have tried to make other builds as viable by changing enemy AI, you’re out of your mind. The reason is that such AI wouldn’t stand a chance in the open world design of the game. While it certainly works in dungeons and is an inadmissible problem in WvW or PvP, that kind of polishing would make champions and legendaries go down like flies when surrounded by 150 players – even if those 150 players literally only pressed 1.

I think their reworking traits, runes, sigils and balance issues is a huge first step in the right direction to diversification – and yes, that includes the 10% nerf to berserker. God forbid you might actually find some use in using some Knight’s gear after April 15th to change how you play.

Several new traits, that will either go unused/unnecessary/replace another one. Ultimately that does nothing for diversity when the gap has been shortened on damage. The new traits should have been a whole new category to make up for the lose in stats, and create greater character variation. All this has done, is create a new meta.

AI in general is a simple reason why things are OP, and why any class that tries to use a minion is being hindered by the capabilities of it. We all know that it’s impossible to expect the Ranger Pet to be near a player’s level. But there is no defence why it can’t attack and move at the same time? There is no defence why Lupicus can be killed in mere seconds. There’s no way you can tell me that if the AI wasn’t as dim as it is, that full damage builds would still be viable as they are.

There is no change. Full Beserkers is still more viable than anything. Enemies do EXACTLY the same thing they’ve always been doing, it will just take everyone 10-20 more seconds to do what they’ve been doing. The 10% nerf does nothing but put Ascended Berserkers back to pre-Ascended stats. Nice way to reward everyone.

And I can tell you why ANet have lost the plot, because there is absolutely no reason why 80 should still be the cap. The cap should be reduced to 20, and everyone zone should just be labelled; 1-5/5-10… so on. When Traits are only unlockable at 30 THUS REDUCING ANY VARIATION until 30, since everyone is the same, and you only get 1 every 6 levels and Masterwork gear jumps up lvs roughly the same, then you may as well cut out the 5 worthless other lvs. Just hand out 6 skill points per lv.

ANet have literally just proved they DON’T want variation. You can’t seriously tell me people need to be handheld in an MMO?

But at the chance of alienating your entire player base? With as many MMO’s as there are these days, developers should be listening to us more than ever otherwise that 1 developer that actually cares, will draw in all of the other communities.

The time and money wasted with the pathetic 40 traits, staggered leveling and hampering on the entire game could have gone into a whole new progression tree that would require people to complete quests for those bonuses. Instead, we now have way more dead traits than ever before.

Even if we got a 10% damage nerf, why not compensate that with additional stat bonuses from another source?

ANet, and every other developer, can’t keep getting away from main issues. Ranger has been a shambles since Beta, and even ANet themselves have acknowledged that a RANGER should NEVER use a RANGED weapon. What the kitten?

ANet Logic - Nerf = Balance

Rather than fix an issue, they’d rather just nerf us? Why not improve the AI? It’d go a long way to making the Ranger actually viable, it’d deter this vision of Bosses just getting trapped, and we wouldn’t see such abuse in Dungeons.

With the AI actually smarter than Mindjack AI, we wouldn’t need this 10% damage nerf. You’ve said you are fine with it in PvP, but not in PvE? So you must be admitting that you can’t program the AI to swing and move.

Making other builds viable is good. I’d prefer if we started with classes, but builds is fine. HOWEVER, you and every other developer must recognize their will ALWAYS be an optimal build for damage/survivability, etc… Trying to nerf Berserkers, simply because everyone wants to do damage because the AI is deader than a donut so everyone can dodge whatever comes their way, is getting us further away from the route cause of the issue.

Someone that’s never even played the game can look at the new GM traits and be in awe of how the Ranger and Engineer are just “trash tier”. Better projectile speed? So not only will the Ranger still suffer this insane idea that the Pet is 50% of their damage and health, despite it NOT scaling with you, but they will continue to be given trash traits that enter the recycling bin.

Why is everything now reduced to traits? Projectile speed should be built in. 300 Vitality shouldn’t just derive from a trait. All of these things, feel as if they belong to ANOTHER set of customization to our characters.

Stats/Traits/Skills/Gear/Weapons/ and a new slot (Perks or Modifiers)

We shouldn’t be constantly nerfed to the point where new content will just bring us back to the level we were already at. Ascended gear now puts us back to pre-Ascended stats. Months of farming for no gain, only sustain.

I don’t want to see people trading away damage or health for this and that at this point. We should be seeing MORE ways to expand the variety. If you want true balance, make everyone a Warrior and give us all the same gear and traits. Otherwise, improve where the game is suffering, and that is diversity and AI. Make other builds stronger, as opposed to just dropping damage but still making it the only build still worth a kitten .

Why must everything always be nerfed?

in Warrior

Posted by: JustARTificial.3175

JustARTificial.3175

So I’ll be leaving all of the individual nerfs alone (looking at you Combustive Shot). My main gripe, is that all of the classes will receive nerfs. As it stands, the game Meta has Warrior/Guardian as God Tier. Anything else is a benchwarmer. So why must Warrior/Guardian slowly be brought down to the same level as every other class (except Ranger which is fundamentally broken), as opposed to buffing the other classes.

The Warrior and Guardian function(ed, if you didn’t care for Hammer or CS) perfectly fine, it’s the other classes that have dips and dives. The Warrior has multiple builds, whilst Ranger only has 1 build and that has NO RANGED capabilities on a RANGER.

I’m not saying the Warrior didn’t need/deserve a nerf, however when you are equally pummelling the other classes then we are getting no where.

It’s incredibly simple logic:
Nerf War/Grd + Nerf Others = Less of everything, and gain nothing
Nerf War/Grd + Buff Others = A balanced game

As for the Ranger, simple coding/animations to allow the Pet’s to attack whilst moving or buffing Pet movement speed in chase scenarios would go a long way to fixing multiple issues with that class. Another simple one, when you evade the Pet has a window of invincibility as well as yourself, since ANet seem incapable of programming AI that runs out of AoE zones or has simple dodging mechanics DESPITE the enemy AI clearly possessing such a thing.
