SMC should be a nightmare to take, if it has defenders. Before it was far to fragile to be called a castle.
However it should be possible to do.. Esp when BG runs away from JQ/IoJ zergs half their size.

You clearly have not tried to take SMC when a dedicated siege humping server has possession.

As for not being able to remove them because of a crafting profession. I get that it would take a lot of effort, but isn’t WvW worth it? I mean, why should an entire game mode suffer in order to preserve a few elements of a single crafting profession?

Is it too much to ask they be removed from the game? When servers are evenly matched numbers-wise, it’s already an uphill battle because of siege. These gimmicks give the defenders an edge that simply can’t be matched by the attackers. These gimmicks turn a fight that already favors defenders heavily, and makes it so only a sustained 2v1 even has a chance of taking the defending server down.

Increasing cooldowns and decreasing the durations doesn’t do enough. We want even fights. With the new linking system, we’re getting a lot more even number fights. Weighing SMC so heavily in favor of the defenders is just too much.

I don’t mind getting beaten because the opponent outfought me. I absolutely hate getting beaten because the opponent pulled a no-skill-required magic lever that kills everything.

Maybe creating a system where attacking players can see the cooldowns of tactivators? Or give attack players a method of stripping these defenses from smc? If that’s too much to ask then just remove from game.

Perhaps I am just lucky but I got this on my first try. Here’s how I did it:
(read it on reddit somewhere)You will most likely now be in a pretty empty map which hasn’t done the pre. So do the pre and then the shatterer will spawn. It will now be much easier because there will be much less people. I think when I did it there were still around 20 people or so. Good luck.

Been doing this, the problem is the second map is usually just as full as the first around prime time. Probably gonna quit trying to be honest, tired of it.

Logging onto my ele and throwing little flaming golf balls was pretty funny. Nice gag, truly hilarious. You can change it back now.

Uh… I am assuming this is a joke because:

1) Nobody asked for it.
2) Other animations that are just as “noisy” remain unchanged.
3) The wind up animation still has a ton of fire.
4) If you really want this in your game it should be a check box on the options menu, not mandatory for everyone.
5) If this is a real issue why did it take 3 years to get addressed?
6) If this is slowing down a player’s pc, then it’s time for a new pc.

But since all of that is really really obvious, there’s no way this was a serious change. April fools come early! Good one guys!

  • Pets have been removed from the game. Ranger skills and traits have been redesigned to compensate for this.
  • Spirits now take no damage (just like Warrior banners, which they basically are), and the buffs they provide are for more than comedy relief.
  • 1 Handed sword auto attack chain no longer makes the player leap uncontrollably forward. This was really stupid and we apologize that this went on for 3 years.
  • Aquatic weapons have… just kidding, we acknowledge that nobody cares about aquatic combat and this was a late April Fools joke.
  • Ranger pets have not only been removed from the game, but deleted from all of our databases. We are truly sorry about how useless these things were and how we forced players to use them. The developers responsible have been flogged.

Alternatively, I can jump in the fray and get chewed up there while some of these animations are taking forever…

Fixes…

Increase radius of all ranged heal skills to 360. That means staff 2 and 3, and CA form 1 and 2.

Staff 5 should be a 360 radius DOME instead of a wall.

This yes.

GW2 lacks all the proper design and support mechanics for team healing.

Preferred fix- Make CA form a “stance” that is maintained until downed (risk vs reward thing) and adjust timers appropriately.

This no. Prob is class skills, not the game. Make heals like CA require targeting a friendly player, or give it a big, bright animation so people know where the heal is and that will fix it.

Making CA a stance just no. No.

I love the new map, but they need to remove the 2 copies because the population can’t fill it.

This, this, this, a million times this. Even in tier 1, no server has the pop to put a presence on all 4 maps. The best we can swing is 1.5 maps, and that’s only on a good night.

I don’t know why they made a gigantic map when the WvW pops are this low. I hope it’s because they’re planning to do something about the pop and wanted maps to be ready when they do. I feel like they can track WvW populations per server and merge low pop with high pop until maps start getting filled. But whatever the plans are low populations are the number one problem with WvW, not the maps.

Why I don't play a ranger

in Ranger

Posted by: Kam.8109

Kam.8109

Errmm.. There is micro-management actually.. Or are you a ranger that only uses F2?
(I will recall (F3) my pet to me when I see it getting hit hard (by AoE or whatever) and I can’t swap. Once it’s regenerated, I’ll send it back in (F1).. ==> Micro-management)

When I notice my pet taking damage I hit F3 and he just keeps doing whatever he was doing and dies.

The two main problems with the pets are:

A) Unresponsiveness. The pet will finish whatever it is doing before it does what the player wants. Which is ridiculous. When the player gives input for the pet the pet should IMMEDIATELY do it. It should instantly cancel its current action, mid attack, mid animation whatever and do what the player wants. In addition there should be no “wind up” times for their F2 abilities. If I want my wolf to fear that means I need his fear now, not 3 seconds from now when all the enemies have moved out of range, it means right this second.

B) Fragility. Pets need to scale with player stats. If I load myself up with toughness and vit my pet needs to become tougher as well, same with damage stats. In addition pets need to take greatly reduced damage from AoE effects. Not just red circles, cleaves, piercing etc. Anything that does not directly target the pet needs to do a fraction of the damage to the pet.

There are a ton of other problems, pets being useless against targets they can’t path to being one, but these are the main two things that if fixed, would go a long way to making their pet class better. I’ve played MMOs for about 10 years now and I can honestly say GW2 has the worst pet mechanics of any MMO I’ve ever played.

Thank you DB for bringing the fun to SOS BL tonight. Us oceanics get bored of pvdoor too, so it was refreshing being bummed from all directions at once. Shout out to NNK and AT, you guys field some crazy numbers.

Why are you still on SoS if you tire of PvD?

It’s not PvD against higher ranked servers.

The last 10 matchups you’ve had you’ve faced a higher ranked server 50% of the time. You’ve been the lowest ranked server 1 time.

I’m seeing more PvD than PvP for SoS

Ebay on the other hand is facing higher ranked 70% of the time with 50% of the time being the lowest rated server.

Someone call a wahmbulance! It’d be nice if we had control over how many people are playing on other servers. Sadly since it’s beyond our control, criticizing us for it is quite foolish.

What am I'm missing about insane overbidding?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Kam.8109

Kam.8109

This is across the board. I was buying level 80 rare armor for salvage and suddenly the price of all of them went to 20@20s for every rare armor with a rune from bids in the16-18s range. That’s a 400g+ worth of offers there. It makes no sense in terms of flipping because there are plenty of supply under 23s and salvaging ectos and runes on average would be a loss as well unless the RNG is ever in their favor.

There’s got to be another profit angle I’m not seeing because I can’t accept someone(s) just being a spoiler.

That sounds like something I’d do to push people out of a market…..Those that want the items to flip will get tired of not having any income from some of those and may move elsewhere which means less competition.

Just sayin..

This. Other MMOs foster environments where bidders try to scare each other out of the market. People like the poster above falsely apply this tactic in the GW2 marketplace.

It doesn’t work btw. What you don’t understand is the sheer volume of flippable items on the market. You simply can’t cover enough ground.

So what is it doing? Making me chuckle, that’s what. I’ve flipped enough that I can tell what I will make money from and what I won’t just by looking at the prices. So when I pass over an item, it’s not because your buy offer was SO BIG AND SCARY!!! It means I know I won’t make any money from it.

But if I won’t, neither will you. No big deal… unless someone sells you the item, then you’re one stuck with it. And by ensuring I won’t make a profit from it, you’ve ensured you won’t either. So best case scenario you’re wasting your time, worst case scenario someone takes your ridiculous overcut and you lose money.

Meanwhile I’m taking my pick of the items that are still flippable, since there’s you know, thousands and thousands of them. So keep it up. Irony is so delicious.

Maybe it’s just because I would never drop that kind of money on a video game, but I find it hard to believe many people get precursors this way, at least not a magnitude where it poses any sort of problem.

Why Are People Crying So Much About Thief?

in WvW

Posted by: Kam.8109

Kam.8109

I play a ranger and no, I don’t go glass cannon. In order to beat a thief I have to be specifically set up for them, and sorry, I don’t WvW to 1v1 so I’m not going to run an anti-thief build 24/7. With my usual setup if I run into one I can survive and get away, but never beat them.

The problem with thieves is after you can deal with their damage they simply outlast you. They’ll be bouncing in and out of combat, forcing their opponent to retarget them every few seconds, buying them all the time they need to their heal to come off cooldown.

The problem with having a class whose “thing” is that they’re strong in 1v1 situations is that they’re the only class that’s designed with that mentality. I mean really, out of 8 classes they’re the only one designed to kill people? What do the other classes do? Even with a class system as varied as GW2 there’s only so many roles out there. How come this is the only one designed for 1v1 fights?

This forum is rife with people complaining about zerging. Thieves are a huge reason you don’t see more roamers. I’m not saying a huge catastrophic nerf that breaks the class, they just need to be toned down a bit so that other classes can stand a chance of not just surviving a thief but beating one.

Any chance of server pop balancing?

in WvW

Posted by: Kam.8109

Kam.8109

What are ANETs thoughts on server population’s effect on the outcome of each week’s matches?

For example SoS does great on the weekends, when maps are full and each server has queue times. Then during the week we see the higher pop servers slowly come out ahead. Its frustrating to watch our server hold it’s own when we have equal numbers and then slip during the work/school week when there’s less people on. Servers with higher pops have a larger pool of players and thus can still field large forces after weekday/RL obligations kick in.

If server pops were roughly equal would it not put an end to this? Would WvW still be largely considered a numbers game?

I think you’d see more variation in the match ups as well. If a server rallied and made a strong push they could move up a rank or two in a week. Right now rank changes at a snails pace (at least at the higher tiers, don’t know about the low ones).

What could be done about server pops? What if ANET offered free transfers from high pop servers to low pop servers? Has anyone been talking about this?

I think the #1 attack on every other weapon kit is designed to be a basic damage dealer to fill gaps between other skill uses. I’m fine with a skill taking control away from the player for it’s usage – any charge type attack (like swoop) does this.

The difference being, I choose when that happens. Not so with 1h sword. The attack cycles through the combo so quickly you basically lose control of your character.

Turning auto attack off negates the speed of the attack sequence. You can’t spam it unless you don’t care where your character leaps off to.

IMO I can’t come up with a single reason why a dodge or use of another skill should not cancel the attack. I doubt anyone else can either.

It’s a pity because 1h sword is great. It has great damage, #2 and #3 make for a very wily little ranger. Were it not for the issue with #1 I think 1h sword might even be our best weapon.

Dont bother arguing in this forum, the economists sit here and vehemently defend their little wet dream of a TP. The average player can see the prices of many end game materials has been going up while the average earning income for players hasn’t gone up as much. But people aren’t going to care if they’re the ones making the money, I know several people in game who’ve made a descent ammount of gold, not one of them has done so without flipping items on the TP.

Gold supply is infinite. Players doing well… anything (quests, dungeons, world bosses, farming) make the game code produce gold. The amount of gold circulating in the game will constantly and forever be increasing. Inflation is a constant here.

And why is it such a surprise that players who take the time to invest (as opposed to spending or even saving gold) have more money? Do you think this shouldn’t be? That if I handle my money wisely, don’t go buying every dumb set of armor my heart desires, take the time to examine a market, take advantage of opportunities I spot… that I should have no more money than you, who (most likely) does nothing but spend?

The way for them to add value to the crafting markets would be to add items that 1. Are highly useful and desirable, like gear that offers Rare-quality stats at Master-quality costs, or consumables that are awesome, and 2. make them offer ZERO crafting XP. It’s the crafting XP that throws the entire system, because it has people churning out stacks of things that they don’t personally need, which they then dump on the market. For an item to have any significant profit potential, it needs to offer no XP, so that people only make as many as they think they can sell, not stacks and stacks that they’re willing to sell at a loss.

If items are highly useful and desirable, they will initially turn a profit, yes. But as soon as it catches on that it’s turning a profit, people will immediately start doing it. And you will have the same cycle: supply goes up, demand goes down, profits go down.

I did not level huntsman, jeweler, and leatherworker to 400 because of the xp gain. I did this because I wanted to produce the exact gear I wanted at higher levels, without having to rely on what I thought at the time would be a price gouging TP (you can tell which game I had just came from playing). Even though the prices on the TP turned out to be on par with the material cost, it’s still better to possess the profession, as you’re not relying on other people to make the gear you want.

Your final point again refers to the notion that profitable crafting will remain profitable. So once again…. If you make crafting more profitable, everyone will start doing itand you will have the same cycle: supply goes up, demand goes down, profits go down.

Anything that sells for over 50 times the vendor price is just ridiculous. People that luck out on RNG and get one of these things can make a fortune, people that don’t luck out and need to buy one stand to lose a fortune. It shouldn’t be that random, it should balance out to more of a balanced exchange.

And now we get to the real reason people complain about the economy. They’re not complaining about the economy, or how much profits can come from crafting, no. What they’re really complaining about is their lack of legendaries. If the rare items suddenly became easy to come by everyone would have one. Stop and think about that for a moment. The item that you’ve been hoping for and pining for (that in both the cases of legendaries and lodestone crafted items offer no stat advantages) would suddenly be everywhere. Why would anyone still want them at that point? What kind of market would you have without scarcity?

Are there less crafters per server in WoW? Sure. But there are equally less customers. It should balance out.

You have 2 professions in that game. Most people don’t go with 2 production professions, as that would mean they have to buy 100% of their supplies in the AH (why would that concern them? hmm…). There is less production going on, not because there are less people producing, but because they only make products from 1 profession (as opposed to GW2 where everyone has 2). There is usually another profession a player can benefit from, but taking 2 in that game means sacrificing a gather skill. So instead the opt to be a customer of another player who posesses the crafting skill they don’t. So you see, there are not less customers per server in that game, there are actually more.

Does everybody see why comparing that game to this one in fallacious? Due to differences in craft and (most importantly) the size of the in game market, supply/demand curves are very different. This is pretty much comparing apples and oranges so please stop.

If you want to argue that you should only have 1 crafting profession to cut down on supply that’s fine. But don’t expect huge profits because remember; market places are linked and everyone’s a producer. I think end the end crafting would be right where it is now, unprofitable.

People keep thinking in terms of “lets make this more profitable”, without realizing what would happen IMMEDIATELY after. If it starts making money, everyone will start doing it which would create the same cycle: supply goes up, demand goes down, profits go down.

Suppose, hypothetically, the Consortium would open up an auction house. Only bids, no buy-out, every item auctioned there becomes bound to the account. Of course the BLTP still exists as well in it’s current state.
What does everyone think would happen?

Well let’s say you’re killing Claw of Jormag and he drops a precursor, but not the one you want. You want to sell it, right? Where would you choose to put it up for sale? This consortium AH, where you have no control over how much it would sell for (I’m assuming the point of this is to take control out of the sellers hands (because they’re evil tycoons), and thus the seller would not be able to set a starting bid)?

Or would you put it up on the TP where you control how much money you will make?

Such an AH might be great for low – mid ticket items, but the things people complain about (lodestones and precursors) would remain on the TP – where the seller has the control.

And if the seller has the ability to set the starting bid, they will surely use the TP has a yardstick to decide what price the starting bid would be, which would largely defeat the purpose.

The problem is every day those possibilities lower. The trouble is to even make a T-3 item is you need to be a dungeon runner. If you don’t like it. You can’t get the materials to make those items.

No, they don’t. These markets are cyclical. One day you can make a profit, the next day the demand shifts, but eventually it comes back around.

If you could make the items from dungeons do you think many people would run dungeons? The point of those items it to reward the player for undertaking a challenge.

They are competing against other game manufactures including Blizzard. I never thought I would be on the side of WoW or Blizzard, but their economy being split up does work.

If you think the prices for precursors are high now, think of what would happen if each server had it’s own separate economy.

My memory from WoW is a little fuzy but I don’t remember the auction house being the land of milk and honey. The small economy sizes allowed for some pretty ridiculous price gouging. And if you were looking for an item that was truly rare, your chances of finding in the AH for a reasonable price were greatly diminished. This probably worked very well for a producer of goods, which is another reason I doubt the sincerity of claiming GW2 marketplace to be “bad”. Everyone’s argument boils down to “I want it to be easier to make money”.

The problem with this logic is that it assumes money will only be easier for YOU to make. The reality is whatever way you make money easier to come by, you would make money easier to come by for every single player in the game. Supply/Demand curves would be totally unaffected, you’d see a huge inflation bubble and within matter of weeks the prices of goods on the marketplace would be the same proportion of your income as they currently are.

If it was easier to make money from crafting, more people would do it. Supply would skyrocket, demand would plummet. Your profits would quickly dry up. I’ll state it again, this probably already happened to crafted items at some point in the market’s history.

And what exactly are you proposing to do that would make crafting more profitable that would maintain a good supply/demand curve long term? In other words; what could they possibly do to make crafting more profitable that would stay profitable?

I’m sorry have you ever played a ranger or are you just trolling ?

Trait and switch ? I used to run a 0/10/30/0/30 build and the pet still gets killed in like 2 seconds everywhere. Dungeons ? 1 AOE and pet is down. WvW ? One AOE in the zerg and the pet is down. Only time the pet stays alive is when you find a 1vs1 duel which doesn’t happen often to me at least… And most of the times you don’t even have the time to react to switch fast enough before the pet gets one shotted.

Although I think pet’s have poor survivability this quote is a ridiculous exaggeration. 1 AoE? Just 1? C’mon, nobody is ever going to take our complaints seriously when they hear stuff like that.

Dagger great offhand ?? Give me one viable and reasonable explanation to why anyone would run a dagger over a torch or warhorn as offhand weapon.

Dagger #4 has a dodge and #5 has a 3stack bleed and a cripple. That can fit nicely into any build I think. Use dagger and sword and your weapon kits alone would give you 3 dodges. Combine that with lightning reflexes and your 2 dodge rolls per endurance bar and you have 6. That’s incredible. If you combine dagger with the axe kit then you can lay down 8 stacks of bleed and 2 movement impairing effects, great for chasing down high mobility classes.

I think dagger is highly underrated. I don’t understand why people are so impressed with the warhorn. Fury and 1 stack of might? The fury isn’t bad but 1 stack of might? And then 99% of the time they just use it for the speed boost and that’s it. Torch is ok if you have a group that spams blast finishers.

Kam, ok let say this is the real world which everyone seems to be talking about.

If company X makes something for say $5 it then sells it for at least $10.

Where say the Guild Wars 2 model is :

Player makes Sword for 3g, but it will only sell in the TP for say 1.5g. Why craft?

So you’re saying you should ALWAYS be able to turn a profit when you craft, regardless of supply/demand curves?

If you turn a profit from crafting, everyone will do it. Supply for items that turn a profit go up, demand goes down. Prices go down. Suddenly you’re not profiting. Not because of some evil or poorly designed market, but because of natural process of supply and demand. I wasn’t paying attention to the market at release, but I would wager that this is EXACTLY what happened near the beginning of the game. Crafting was probably profitable, but once supply became flooded, the value of crafted items went down.

Why is this wrong? Why should crafting be a constant immutable money maker? Why should players have a work around to supply and demand? If you could always make money from crafting, why would anyone do anything else?

And I would also like to point out it is possible to make money from crafting. Here’s a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pgiuWEqRKA

Because the truth is you can make money with crafting. The opportunities are rare because again, crafted items are subject to supply and demand, like anything else. But opportunities are there.

I on the other hand say would make weapons years after WoW came out. I was still selling mid grade swords and axes for a profit. A profit isn’t a loss.

Making money with crafting is a WoW thing. You know the main reason you make money with crafting in that game? Scarcity. Because each server has a separate economy. They make money because since there’s a smaller pool of players who can make the item, they can charge more. Scarcity allows them to profit.

I find it ironic that there are people in this thread saying it’s a bad economy because there isn’t enough scarcity, while a few posts up there are people claiming the economy is bad because there’s too much scarcity. I guess we only want scarcity when it benefits us?

here are some examples from a real economy:

when aluminum becomes too expensive, auto manufacturers can swap to steel.
Try swapping a crystalline lodestone for a charged one and see how far that gets you.

Comparing apples and oranges to suit your fancy. I’m sure in your top 10 economics program you learned that not all goods can be substituted.

When the price of oil skyrockets, everyone goes out drilling for more. The price of precursors is rocketing out of control, but the horrific drop rate makes volunteering to add to that supply a ludicrous option.

When the price of oil skyrockets, oil companies go out drilling for more. People like you and me just sit back and curse the high prices. You’re attempting to argue that everyone should have ready or otherwise equal access to the most expensive/valuable commodity in the game by comparing it to a commodity that the vast majority of people have absolutely no control over, other than what they choose to buy (which collectively is a lot of power, but exactly equal to the power that players have over the price of precursors). Honestly I thought we were done arguing about precursor inflation. When will the inflation end? When players stop buying the product. Again, with the credentials you’re boasting, this shouldn’t be that foreign.

When you plant crops, you will, barring a horrific natural disaster or outright negligence, be able to reap what you sow. If you go to farm in GW2 you get a backpack full of porous bones.

How much do you know about farming? Crops can be greatly impacted by the slightest bad weather, and it happens quite frequently. You’re acting like it’s a rare occurance for a farmer to make anything other than the absolute maximum amount of profit for his effort. If your example were a reflection of reality, we’d have a LOT more farmers.

They say this is to discourage botting, but bots don’t get tired or bored, humans do.

They have said porous bones drop to discourage botting?

This, is a bad economy.

Not convinced, sorry. It seems like people complaining just want everything easy.

cuz they were scrubs who came from world of ezmodecraft and played a huntard there. They expected jesus to fly out of the sky and kill an entire zone with his lazer eye nukes and hand over the XP and gold to the “huntard of gw2”

Thats why.

Or they have been playing MMO’s since most likely before you were born and " rangers " were almost always ranged DPS classes that used a bow in these types of games.

ANet’s description of the Ranger, which you can find at:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/ranger/

reads as: “Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.”

We had very good reason to expect rangers to do well with bows over any other weapons. Please stop saying otherwise.

I have to disagree with you. While i do not hold any current economics degreee and i believe i have no natural talent to these sort of things. Ive been able to earn roughly 200-300g on tp alone. This is not a huge amount and by no means boastable but im just saying there is plenty of potential. On the other hand, what you say feels more like borderland scamming and you re just unhappy that gw has these superiors systems
which protect players. Like agents who make sure you re getting the best price.

Playing the TP works pretty well. Flipping is a very basic tactic. It’s absolutely easy to do, takes 15 minutes a day, and you can make a decent amount of gold to supplement your income. I’m just starting out and I made 15g in the last 5 days alone – in addition to my income from farming/dungeons etc. I didn’t realize how easy it actually was until I actually stopped spending all my gold and making an effort to play the tp. I suspect most other players critical of the tp would be of the same opinion, if they’d only make an effort.

Also, whoever above me said “mystic toilet”, that comment made my lmfao, good stuff.

I am poor in real life. So why would I want to role play as poor? They need to increase the amount the vendors will buy stuff for.

I lol’d a little bit at this. Not gonna lie. I’m not sure how increasing the amount vendors will buy stuff for will make the economy better. The vendor makes your item disappear in exchange for generating money.

The TP on the other hand give the item you don’t want to a player who will give you their money for it. How is this a bad economy? Are you sure you’re not really asking for no economy?

It’s not really that hard to make money in this game. Most people treat in-game money the way they do real life money – as soon as they get it they spend it on something. Instead spend some time flipping items or make some long term investments.

Because we really only have 1 build for damage. There’s a plethora of things that need attention. Just to rattle a few off the top of my head:

Slow, clumsy pets with sometimes unresponsive abilities.

Pet attributes not scaling with gear.

Pets getting destroyed in WvW battles leading to an almost default decrease in dps.

Pets being unable to path to targets on walls in WvW leading to default decrease in dps.

Under-performing Signets.

Jumbled traits (example trap skill traits lying in a tree that does not buff condition duration or condition damage).

1h Sword #1 skill bug greatly harms the effectiveness of the kit.

I could go on. That being said I do love my ranger. I leveled a Rifle Warrior to 80 and the lack of mobility led me right back. Another thing Rangers have going to them – the Wilderness Survival trait line which I think is great and a large part of the spec I currently run in WvW.

I don’t think Ranger’s are awful but I do think they need some serious attention. Particularly pet mechanics. Without hyperbole I can honestly say this is the worst implementation of pets I have ever seen in an MMO.

Upcoming WvW Updates:

So WvW update is pushed back? And I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess the PvE content is still on track?

Is there any solid information on what the majority of people play in this game? I only pve to gear up for WvW. And there’s no way sPvP has as much participation as WvW. Why is WvW the last thing that gets attention, even in months where such attention was promised?

Clearing up the meaning of "Ranger"

Yeah… getting pretty sick of people defending the fact we don’t have competitive dps.

ANET bragged about this game not having a “holy trinity” mechanic of tank, dps, healer, going so far as to mock games that do. In their game, your class doesn’t have a “role” as in other mmos. They attempted to pull this off by making each class able to do a variety of things. If you want to be tanky or healy, you can make your character a tank or healer, regardless of his class (think warriors banner heals).

You’re suppose to be able to play how you want. The ranger having sub-par dps compared to other classes is not a design choice – it’s a design failure. It’s not even that you people are drinking ANET’s koolaid, it’s that you made your own koolaid and are peddling it on others.

Doing 20k damage doesn’t equal DPS. It just means Wars have better burst damage.

Oh please. Being able to hit for 90% of most peoples life is amazing. It means the warrior can basically two or three shot someone. The ranger doesn’t have anything close to this. I sincerely hope you’re trolling and aren’t drinking the “warriors aren’t better at ranged” kool aid.

Ranger & Anet Philosophies

Kam.8109

I lol’d when I read about ANET thinking the warrior isn’t better and ranged than a ranger. Until a ranger can pull a 20+k crit with a ranged weapon then it’s total bunk.

IMO

-Signets still need a major overhaul. Buffing Sig of the Hunt was very welcome. However I would appreciate a meaningful active ability as well. And of course our remaining signets are still laughably bad.

-Spirits need to be immune to damage. They are already on a timer, and they have cooldowns. Spirits don’t do damage directly, unlike a mesmer clone. Warrior banners and necro wells don’t take damage, why should spirits?

-In addition spirits should follow you without needing to be traited. There should be a reason to take them without traiting heavily into them, for this and the above reason there currently isn’t.

-Pet attributes should scale with the player’s gear. That’s how the rest of your attacks improve. If the pet is suppose to be an integral part of the class this should be implemented.

-Finally there needs to be a solution for situations when a pet can’t path to it’s target, ie when you or your target are on a wall in WvW. IMO pets should grant their F2 abilities to the ranger’s next weapon attack. For example if your pet’s F2 is an AoE fear, change it so that when you use the F2 ability, it gives a buff that applies an AoE fear effect to the ranger’s next weapon attack. This will make the pets a little less useless when they can’t get to their targets, although it would probably require more time an effort than we’re likely to see.
