General Information

Main Timezone: PST

Our Objective

We are a small group of friends looking to open our doors to all players but specifically looking for new or returning players. With the Heart of Thorns expansion well on its way, and with the huge influx of new players from all of the wonderful ArenaNet sales we want to work together to turn our previously small guild into a mega guild for all new players to get together and learn and explore the world of Tyria. While we may focus specifically recruiting new players at this time we also are actively looking for veteran players who are looking for a chill environment to spend time in with players who want to enjoy the game to its fullest potential.

Since we are looking for all players in any server the only thing we wont focus heavily on is WvW, however, we will actively encourage people to find people from their servers to create small WvW groups with.

We do have a Teamspeak server however it is to small to accommodate to many people so once we have upgraded it we will have it posted in the legion message.

[Build Help] P/D Confusion WvW

I love theorycrafting myself so I always love giving feedback on the obscure builds that most would just disregard as garbage without trying it for themselves. I personally use a rather interesting build myself. But if you D/P off hand is specifically for running the definitely keep Sleight of Hand.

My only suggestion would be that since you are using pistol on your off hand and Head Shot qualifies as an interrupt I might consider swapping out Sleight of Hand with Bewildering Ambush cuz then you can get up to 10 stacks instantly however I’m not entirely sure which one would be more efficient. Otherwise a very interesting build and definitely looks relatively strong to me.

Edit: Look strong in terms of concept and execution. Ironing out the fine details of stats on armor and accessories and all that would require me to crank out a notebook and I cant really be bothered currently.

d/p thief problems

Mastering Thief takes a considerable amount of time and now-a-days is even more difficult with the considerable amount of nerfs they have received over the years. I have 2000+ hours clocked in at thief and while I am confident fighting any class on any build I wouldn’t consider myself a master at the class.

First things first, having a 50% win rate is not bad by any means. The higher the amount of games you play the closer to 50% you are going to get, and the game is a team game despite some people treating it otherwise so naturally you can’t win every game because there are variables outside of your control.

Second, knowing how to fight each class comes with experience but knowing not when to fight is also really important. Take for example the bunker classes you mentioned. If you have fought them once and you have been handily dealt with its probably not in your best interest to go back. And while you are correct in your assessment that your role is to de-cap points there are many ways of going about it. If that bunker is simply going to sit on home and you can’t fight him you have free reign to provide support anywhere else on the map. And since you are playing one of the most mobile classes in the game if you force him to leave by putting pressure elsewhere you are free to cap that point. It may not be for very long but its enough to make the opposing team lose points and help your team pick up a few extra.

As for Specs and Builds, I don’t run a very normal thief build and I haven’t in a long time so I’m not really familiar with what is meta anymore and even less so how to fight with that particular spec. However, for D/P the best advice I can give is to abuse the hell out of your Blinding Powder. This ability easily puts most melee fighters at a huge disadvantage because of the way blind and the ability work. It also provides a nifty kiting mechanic if something goes wrong in a fight since Blinding Powder + Heartseeker = Stealth. As for ranged classes, you can always use the same combo to gain a little ground on your target while also remaining semi-untargeted and giving you a brief moment of pressure that may even make your opponent waste an evade. It also a good rule of thumb that ranged classes tend to be a little bit more glassy than their melee counterparts and if you get a good jump on them it can instill a little bit of panic resulting in a kill or a retreat.

Personally my own useful tip would be that there is no shame in running. SPvP specifically isn’t about killing people. Killing players is only the means to an end. The end being capturing points. However, it isn’t the only means to that end.

And of course most importantly, anything that I say here is just an opinion and isn’t necessarily right or wrong.

Forced Thief Builds

The only thing forcing you to go one of those 2 builds is a fancy thing called Meta. If you want to be the best ever then going Meta is probably your thing, however, if you don’t really care then you can go absolutely whatever you want because that’s how the game is intended to be played.

I currently run Healing/Condi D/D thief for SPvP with lots of evasive utility.

Is this the best build for thief? No probably not by a long shot.

Do I do well in matches? Ya typically. I have a role and fill it appropriately.

Do I care what people think of my build? No. I play thief exactly how I want to play it. I don’t want to be a squishy coward so I opted to go for annoying untouchable tank.

What it boils down to is do you want to be the best or not. If you do then go Meta builds. There are always going to be 2 or 3 predominant builds in the game. That’s how Meta works. If they buff something or nerf something certain builds are going to fall off and others are going to pick up. That’s the nature of competitive gaming.

If however, you don’t want to be that cowardly, squishy, easy-to-predict target, then don’t be. Spend time looking at traits and skills and weapon set ups and figure out what you want to be and be it. Simple as that. It might not be the best build but skill will probably make up for it and you won’t be as frustrated playing a build you don’t like.

In SPvP I use a Healing/Condi thief with D/D and lots of evasive utility. It is great for point capture and to a certain extent point defense. If you assault a point with a bunker you’ll simply outsustain them more often than not while outputting a considerable amount of damage and if its a glass the same thing will happen.

The build might be garbage but I like it and I do well with it. However, I would have no clue how to convert it over to any sort of WvW build as it is sort of reliant on forcing your opponent to stand in Caltrops. Despite what people say every stat has its usefulness if you find a clever way to use it.

Recent PvP "Changes" - a message to ANET

No you’re right ofcourse, but its somewhat like them trying to save a sinking ship at this point in time. Everyone I knew from aion who came here hoping for an even better pvp experience have long since quit. The meta is stale and boring, my friends list is dead and full of pve’rs or wvw zergers.

I’d keep an eye over your shoulder in case there are any future changes that you personally like but otherwise I’d move on. I came from Aion and pvp was far from perfect, and the gear requirements could be cringe worthy but if I look at my friends like rheeza on NA hes having almost more fun on the player made tournaments back on aion (that arent even a game feature) than he ever did on actual game included modes in gw2 o_0

While the GW2 PvP Content is becoming a bit “used” I wouldn’t hesitate in saying that, in my opinion, this game easily outshines Aion PvP. Maybe it is just the style I like but every day that I played Aion was I giant headache.

There is no excuse for this, you can’t in any way blame the player for what happened. It was cut short mid event, and it’s done and dusted. The people who were shafted were in an active event, if it was active it should have been allowed to finish, what should have happened was to deny people from joining that event at some point and just let the last batch of players finish up, and then close it down.

You had people mid event just pushed away and slapped in the face for the time they spent working the area, with no ending, no closure, no rewards. I did the opening event, the investigations and read as much lore as i could, to get kicked so close to the finishing line. So cut about it. It’s not even about the rewards, i would have just liked to see the ending.

Karka falls in a pit of lava. That enough closure?

Thank you Kaochanism.8793, but I had already seen that and it is mentioned in my post and it is not the same scenario as my post is about. They say they will compensate people who managed to log in and do the event, but got disconnected.

I could not log in at all after dozens of attempts so I never had a chance to participate in the event, thus I did not disconnect and according to ANet I would not be compensated even though the problem in both cases lies at their end, not ours.

Slight difference.

Ah yes. I was confused when I read it. Either way I’m sure Anet will find a way to compensate people. Unfortunately, I’m afraid this means doing it again for everyone and then the argument becomes, “They got to do it twice, why can’t I?”.

This fractal isn’t really that hard. Just requires some timing and knowing where the tripwires are. You can jump over them and avoid the hassle.

And if you don’t like doing it in your free time simply don’t do it. I hear Hello Kitty Online has a great dungeon system.

That post only discusses rewards.

This post is complaining about a “new build” to that prevented those that couldn’t enjoy the content from finishing.

If you wanted it to experience the event then I’m sorry. Most people seem to be upset that they didn’t get their shot a a pre-cursor, not at actually experiencing the game.

Please no more one-time event.

The post doesn’t specifically say players who didn’t attend but I’m not quite sure how ANet would differentiate between the two so I assume they will just do something for the community as a whole.

I just learned this. But this is Anet fault if the game is bugged and misleading people! Those misled people are upset, I’m just speaking on behalf of them.

I understand people are upset, but no matter how ANet rolls the dice people will always be upset. It is in human nature. I am just trying to provide some closure for those who are not pleased with how things went.

THANK YOU ArenaNet for this Ninja Build , we alsmot finished the event and got everything reseted now i cant restart the event because you removed it , i hope you die !

It was an exploit anyway. They said players who didn’t get a chance to participate or those who got DC’d would have their chance.

I especially like the long warning we had. It’s nice when you are at final stage in Fractals to just get booted by a ninja “build”.

Fractals is just like every other dungeon and gives you 3 hours to finish the dungeon before the patch takes place. Unless you’re unlucky.

The event was running on the Overflows due to a bug. The patch took care of that. ANet already stated that those who got disconnected from the event or didn’t get a chance would be able to get it later on.

The patch didn’t take care of anything. If you haven’t noticed, they said so on the frontpage that it’s just routine maintenance. If it’s a bug then Anet didn’t actually fix anything other than forcing everyone to log out of Overflow.

In that sense then yea the patch did take care of that, but its not really a patch; it’s a maintenance.

Routine maintenance can impose a lot.

Logically I thought they fixed it and I spent a couple minutes bouncing around and couldn’t find an overflow with it running so I figured it would have fixed it, but it turns out that it is still going on some overflows.

This is always a good thread to read if your having a down day and need a good laugh. As a Thief, I can’t wait until they nerf thieves to the expectations of the community and we can move onto another class until we eventually just run into WvW wielding rubber chickens that do no damage.

I agree with you completely Rellick. No event or dungeon should be built like this. I am not saying that it isn’t do-able, because it is, but it isn’t practical for a group of pugs to do this.

I think at one point in my last run I counted 15 mobs. That is 15 Silver Ring mobs. Doing anywhere from 2-8k damage per hit depending on the mob. If I were to get hit for each mob in there for 6k I would be taking 90k damage….8x more health than i have at level 75.

Allow us to dye armor effects!

Dying an effect would be much more complicated than just dying a model. A fun idea but I don’t see it being implemented
