So pretty much as the title says, how come we didn’t get a new legendary this year? I thought they were supposed to be an annual thing , and the back was a nice goal that I kept working on the first 3 seasons , i mean it gave a lil but more stimulation for playing and I found it enjoyable .

Oh yeah, the “slightly” line: 50% and 33% nerf to the 2 main attacks of the Rev is “slightly” and “down a bit”.

It’s funny looking back at the May 2016 nerf to SOTM of 15%. People were saying that ANET did the right thing by being conservative so as not to kill class viability. Then 6 months later they come down with a radical downgrade that looks like it will threaten class viability. 50% downgrade after a 15% downgrade means about at 43-44% downgrade in damage overall. Almost half. So much for taking things slow eh?

I will not be playing my Rev in pvp.

It’s about 10-15% nerf to rev overall, who had insanely high damage in the first place. Rev will still be meta and one of the strongest classes (I believe mes is not the strongest) and then rev) Just the shiro port alone will make it essential.

If every other class has a value of 15k and rev has a value of 20k (which is p much the case) and then rev gets nerfed 15%, let’s say 20% just to be generous. Ppl will QQ about the 20% even tho you’re still at 16k and 1k above the other classes. Look at the results instead of looking at only the changing number to have an excuse to cry.

Funny how you prowl all across the rev forums claiming rev is the godsend of classes, yet never specifically explain why, or even bother to acknowledge the glaring issues with the class, but instead just say ‘High damage, and teamfights’, completely ignoring that rev’s damage falls quicker than a stone in teamfights, and most of its viable support comes from the lazy design of boon bot Glint, which no one wants in the first place.

Shiro’s port is trash compared to other options. Lousy tracking with terrain, consumes energy if failed, requires a target in the first place, obvious animation, requiring shiro and locking you into other utilities you may not need, along with his trash heal.

Yep , agreed. Especially the port – redicilolously high energy cost , CD , precast animation that has to complete , energy wasted on fail – this has become literally the worst teleport in game framing DH has better teleports
Basically they butchered the profession is steps . First mobility, then survivability. Damage has been going down from the start , exponentially increasing as time goes on.
By this time next year , Rev’s attacks should be healing the enemies

What other build ? Condi rev is more of a joke than power , and others are non-existent .
OT I still manage to kill kitten, but th damage reduction is pretty bad . Would be nice if they undid PS nerf at least , I can get over SotM

Seeing damage reduction on surge makes sense given it’s unavoidable nature. But making a drastic change like 50% and 33% on precision strike given how much of the sword kit IS precision strike is haphazard to say the least, given the fact that no other classes are being modified nearly as aggressively.

As stated numerous times rev has been dominating power roaming builds in all mid-high-top tier level play. It doesn’t take long for players to learn energy management and excel against all other potential power roaming specs (thief, mesmer, warrior) that others has practiced for years. Let’s face it, power rev was always the de facto go to build when you need mobility and direct damage. Why do you think all other classes’ meta is either bunker, bruiser or condi build for an entire year? Thief? Please, most thieves still disengage whenever the fight starts and you don’t really see them in top tier due to how easily good rev can kill them. Dragonhunters? Just play it in mid tier and you’ll see how helpless it can be after DH burn initial CDs.

At the high end it’s already been theorized that thief in combination with mesmer would be the optimal comp (hence 55 dragons picking up sindrener, but im like 99% positive you ddin’t know about that among other things). Rev beating thief? It’s actually well understood that thief dominates the rev in that matchup. You making that statement actually invalidates the rest of what you wrote given the fact you don’t even have basic matchup and role understanding.

Don’t come on the forums and pretend you know anything when you clearly don’t.

This is the 3rd nerf to SotM ! As someone pointed out earlier , the skill will be doing 36!! % damage of what it used to at launch , that’s pathetic ..Let’s not forget that it’s highly telegraphed and easily dodgeable/blockable.

Im not asking for a public shaming but can a mod just silently remove this person? Thank you

Pro tip: You can sometimes use it too from a certain range against static targets (stomping/rezzing for instance)

Well if it’s being used for either cc or defensively it will not be right in your face . Idk but I don’t seem to struggle to not get hit by it and neither do a lot of people in this thread , so .. May be just practice ?
Pro-tip. The blind from the facet is much better for stomping and if you just gonna damage down the fallen , quickness+auto is a better option . But yeah for preventing someone from stomping /rezzing – oh sword pull , sotm, chaos release and shiro ult all do nicely

I believe you should be doing more , I know for a fact I normally do 600k+ on Rev and Power Warrior (I run non-meta build though , GS/Rifle) . I can’t remember off the top of my head , but I believe the mesmer numbers should be a bit higher as well

Why would anyone pick a revenant in S5/ on their team?
Roaming – thief is waaaaaaaaaay more mobile AND does higher burst; Mesmer is a better option too
Damage – at least half of the professions will do more
Defence (bunker) – ele, druid, scrapper or guard are much better

Honestly, I don’t want ANY class to be nerfed too hard. I know what that is like (Ele circa winter 2013) – it isn’t fun and causes people to leave the game.

However, Rev had some extremely OP aspects that needed to nerfed. It may need subsequent buffs to counteract some of its weaknesses (like condi), but its hard to know before seeing the impact of nerfing the OP stuff. I would hope if they are a little UP, they get some buffs (in other places, like sustained damage) in the next patch. However, a class can’t be buffed reasonably without first getting rid of something OP if that is the main thing carrying it.

From the extremely reasonable responses of Cal (who actually seems to have a clue about roles and holes), I would have more hope going forward. Good to see.

Could you stop acting like this is the first nerf Revs got ? We were op in s1 but since than it’s been a year of nerfs .. hell condi Mesmer is both easier to play and more op than power rev yet no one say anything about it

And yet rev has been a staple requirement on all ESL teams since HoT as well despite these nerfs and is a very widely used class in WvW too though it’s weakness to condi limits it’s solo roaming in small groups it’s deadly.

Staff for revenant is a healing and defensive weapon, it was clearly described as this when it was first previewed even before HoT back when rev didn’t have weapon swap either. A skill on a defensive weapon set that does all it does and can take off half your health bar is objectively overpowered. If this skill was on any other class half the people here would be clapping their flippers together going “nerf nerf nerf” like seals.

Guess what though ? UA and SotM both didn’t have evades in the beta , and without them not only they didn’t make sense but they also sucked so bad that devs added evade to all of them to make them viable. And like you mentioned yourself we are very vulnerable to condi . And meta is plagued with condi builds. Before those changes at least I had a chance to take down the opponent before their condis melt me , now I’m pretty sure the burst won’t be enough .
And idk , last I checked scrapers had like 2 skills on their bar at least that “do everything”, traited dh traps come to mind too, Mesmer shatters (traited again ), etc . Let alone other colossal strengths like a full shroud on necro.
And moving on from SotM, wtf the nerf to PS? I mean you literally need to be inside the hit box of a person for all 3 blades to hit the same person , plus say hello to all the illusions/pets/minions/other players that WILL get in your way . And after bypassing all those obstacles , I will now rewarded with a spaghetti slap?
Basically if those nerfs go though, my best offensive strategy now is pop quickness and auto-attack , great …

remove of Daze from traps is a big nerf. No more interrupts. I suppose slow fits in with the DH having poor mobility so helps to stay on target.

I guess Condi builds on the rise again. Burn Guard and Condi Rev.

Like there weren’t enough condi druids , necros, mesmers, engis, thieves , warriors ..

Revenants have been nerfed LITERALLY every patch since release of HoT , every time I was thinking ‘ok I can deal with it ’ but it’s just getting too much … they nerfed mobility , surviavability repeatedly and gutted damage again and again .. honestly wtf ? Meanwhile condi mes , oh yeah that perfectly freaking fine ..

Lots of great feedback in this thread! I see a lot of concern about the nerfs to revenant so I would like to discuss those a bit more.

Surge of the Mists is a skill that does everything. It evades attacks, is a massive cc, and does a huge amount of damage. The defensive capability and cc fit well with the rest of the staff set, so we felt the damage was the best spot to bring the skill down a bit. 50% is certainly a big reduction, but consider just how much damage this skill does right now. Even after the nerf it will still take a chunk out of a squishy’s health bar, in addition to providing cc setup for another skill (and teammates).

Precision Strike is another skill that we felt did too much damage on its own, particularly when all 3 projectiles hit one player. This is another case of a big reduction on a skill that does a ton of damage, resulting in a skill that still does a reasonable amount of damage.

In general, revenant isn’t lacking in sources of damage. Unrelenting Assault, Facets of Strength, Elements, and Chaos, Equilibrium, and sword autoattack are all strong damage skills as well. Precision Strike and Surge of the Mists will continue to bring relevant damage to the table, so rev should still have plenty of damage to go around.

With that said, we will definitely be keeping a close eye on things going into the season.

If you wanna tone thing down slightly , you know what are better numbers? 15% , not freaking 33 and 50%.. it honestly hurts my brain how you can use slightly and 50% in the same sentence

As the title says , Cymbel for the Chuka and Champawat collections is bugged . At least on EU. Need to talk to her to conclude the Secluded Tour achievement , but you can’t . People have reported this at various stages where you need to talk to her . Please fix , as you can imagine it’s quite frustrating

It doesn’t say it anywhere , buts just how it is – good offence in 1v1, good defence in group fights . Know that pesky moment when all the opponents spam AoE? Well evade all of it with a single UA. And the thing about rocket charge is that it has vulnerability pockets – as opposed to the solid evade of UA – so the skills are different like oranges and celantines.
The immobilise on sword 4 can help keep someone in place , or you can use CR or SotM right after to push them out , though the latter will lock you out of sword for a while . Plus if we are includinng teammates in this , they can help chain the CC.
In PvE , when fighting a boss sword 5 will do a hefty amount of dmg to the breakbar so there is at least that. In regards to trash – it’s about appropriate timing. Clear the trash with the infamous AA – let’s be honest that won’t take long – after which get right inside the bosses hit box , hit 2 and UA after that and ta-da no dmg split.
In WvW , well 1st of all there is hammer for blobs . Whilst roaming , the PvP approach works fine most of the time., with even more space to play around . But if you really wanna melee in some blobs , wait for your blob and enemy blobs to engage , engage yourself on the boarder of the blob , drag some injured dude out and finish him with PS or switch and SotM, sword 4 after that to ensure safe retreat . Or staff 3. Or the Shiro evade . Re-engage after that. Well that’s been an effective tactic for me anyways .

I don’t get this at all,

However if we want funny op changes,

*CoR now goes through small obstructions like rocks, and can travel up and down stairs, equivalent slopes and off ledges while continuing on for its remaining distance.

*Phase Smash can be used on elevations higher or lower regardless of shadowstep limitations.

*Unrelenting Assault works more often.

*Surge of the Mists now has ground targeting.

*Punishing Sweep is now worth casting and is more punishing to your enemies than yourself.

Ahaha love your last one . Dont get the ground targeting SotM though.
My 2 cents :
- make Ventari skills trigger around the revenant , and duplicate around the summoned tablet
- revert Malyx to the original beta state
- increase shield 5 radius , heals surrounding allies as well
- rite of the dwarf costs 25 energy, breaks stun for you and allies
- spinning hammers push back foes

I can’t think of a situation where I DON’T want those abilities. In fact, the stuff that Sword 2 and 3 are made of are the opposite of situational … I want to spam them all the time because they are always good.

Sword 2 and 3 are good vs multiple targets? So you run into a group of 5 mobs and instead of aa them to death in 2sec, you prefer to cast UA and tickle them? Sounds good.

Sword is the only weapon ingame that loses damage vs your target in 1vX situation. No other weapon share similiar mechanic. Backstab wont deal 75% less damage to someone bc theres 2 diff targets around. Vault wont have it damage halved by 75% cause 5 people stand stacked on point. HB wont lose 75% damage to a boss bc next to him there are 2 adds. Lava font wont deal reduced damage bc 5 mobs are standing on it. You get the point?

If they want sword to single out enemies as they say then yes its time to rework it into pure 1v1 weapon or give us perks to punish stacking (like everyone taking damage from UA around my target) and not being punished bc enemy stacked (which we cant control whatsoever, displacement was removed)

Man you’re like an inquisitor with you speeches – and you’ve been at it for so long . I like the sword as is , and would rather not have it reworked. It’s not meant to work like vault or backstab. UA is meant for offence 1v1 and defence in groups . 2 can function as soft cc, besides a strong hit in 1v1. And what are you talking about being unable to single out an enemy ? Yes you can control stacking , probably one of the most capable proffesions at that tbh. Between Chaotic Relase , staff 5 and sword 5 you can push anyone out quite far . And hitting with sword 5 is not nearly as hard as people paint it out to be .

Bro….those people who kitten about sword 5…most of them do it in a PvP context. In PvE I have no problem hitting with sword 5…as long as I don’t try and hit a dragon or some other huge boss.

IKR? Just a bit of common sense , and it’s all good . I use all the time for positioning mobs in Fractals. And even in PvP it’s not hard , if you are positioned right . Pulling out a guy from the point , switching legend , hitting sword 2+3 and finishing with a staff 5 is just so satisfying.

So with the end of S3 and the upcoming balance changes , I just wanted to make a tiny request. ArenaNet could you please stop nerfing Revenant? I’ve been having a look at the balance patches , and since the release of HoT Revenant just keeps on getting nerfed – just the staff 5 got nerfed twice ! We did get a buff to off hand sword , but still besides that – weapons keep getting nerfed , Shiro got nerfed multiples times , Glint got nerfed multiple times . Could you take a break from us ? And I know that people will say it was OP before – well it clearly isn’t now , though still viable. So yeah would be nice if the proffesion didn’t get ruined . 35 energy PT with a 5 sec CD was already a low blow ;(

And here I thought people wanted scavanger hunts for the easy way to work towards a specific precursor without having to pray to rng jesus

Both, actually. We had the rng way, and we had the “paying through the nose” way. What people wanted was a way based not on rng, not on gold/mat sinks, but on effort.

And that is what we got.

Describe this effort, please, that does not require materials nor gold to achieve, but still has value. Crafting a precursor after gathering every material is not hard, it just takes time to gather the materials, time being the effort.

At this point I don’t really care whether they add with old formula or the new – as long as we actually get them. And next expansion is not an acceptable time. In regards to the new method of acquisition – I’m actually enjoying the Chuka & Champawat collection. Yes a lot of resources are required , but that’s the only way to make them valuable and it actually feels rewarding when you cross the finish line .

there is no use in a great sword right now. the class still needs a second main hand power melee weapon, a ranged condi weapon and possibly a second ranged power weapon. It would be extremely silly of them to put those aside for a GS

You litteraly contradict yourself . Rev needs another mainhand power weapon – and guess what GS as a 2hander fits both MH and OH skills , thus making it a perfect fit for that role .

+1 for greatsword – favourite weapon of all time , so would love to be able to use it on my main.
In regards to a ranged option – yes it is probably more needed. But for example Guardian had a ranged power weapon before HoT, yet their elite spec introduce another power ranged weapon that works different. So it’s entirely possible to get GS as more AoE power melee weapon ( we only have 1powe/1condi MH). But if we do get a ranged weapon I really hope that it’s far faster than hammer , and gives the option for players to alternate between power/condi perhaps via trait. With all of this being said – please stick to Longbow or Shortbow. REVENANTS ARE NOT RITUALISTS – stop trying to make it happen , Scepter does NOT belong on a melee powerhouse that is Rev and would look AWEFULL.

Ruins of Surmia has practically no WvW players on it, like the both ABL and DBL were ghosttowns before the linking was implemented – so this gives a chance to participate in WvW, jeez let people have some fun and enjoy the game will ya

I disagree with Tokyo on a lot of points. However, I have to conceed that there are aspects where the class needs some serious work.

Sword AA (+2 when available) is indeed your best source of DPS, but like Mesmers, Revenants are rarely brought into groups for their DPS capabilities. Raiders bring along Revenants for their buffs and for their hard-hitting CC abilities, which can prove crucial in certain encounters. If you intend to raid with your Mesmer, you will find yourself in a subgroup with a Revenant more often than not, as the synergy between the two classes can prove extremely beneficial to your group.

Glint is indeed, the primary stance of most Revenants and your friendly Mesmer will likely want you to maintain Facet of Nature for as much of the fight as possible, while the rest of the group will be pleased with Facet of Darkness. Facet of Elements > Elemental Blast is a DPS increase and should be used whenever possible. Light and Strength can be useful too, but in some situations they are either superfluous or detrimental, so use your discretion.

Your secondary stance depends on preference and situation. Most raid-Revenants will use Mallyx or Jalis (Mallyx provides a leap skill I find very useful in certain fights) but PvP Revenants default to Shiro. Ventari needs a lot of love.

I’d also like to point out that certain skills are not intended to be pure DPS skills. Sword three, for instance, is an evade that puts pressure on enemies. It is fantastic in PvP. Likewise, the most common secondary weapon for Revenants at the moment is the staff, and this is primarily for its 5 ability, which is a brilliant breakbar-busting CC move.

Thank you , you said most of the stuff I was thinking . Revenant is favourite class by far , though I tend to play most quite often . For open world PvE , Glint + Shiro is great for traversing longer distances with Phase Traversal. In high end fractals Revs are extremely strong too – capable of bringing a lot to the group , adapting based on composition . Just because most people tend to stick to 1 legend primarily, doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. Your team is lacking boo strip / condi clear? Go Malyx and its all good. No projectiles blocking ? No problem – whip out Ventari and its all good. No Mesmer in group ? Go Shiro for personal quickness + 1 more strong breakbar breaker; need more sustain – turn on Jalis. With that being said Glint is too good to pass on . You can do a lot of thing , you just have to manage your energy well and know your skills and when to use them. A good revenant is a game changer . And , like saviour mentioned Revs are great in PvP.

the precision strike is ok, i mean i dont think it was supposed to track stealthed targets to begin with – though it was nice thing. However 35 energy cost and a CD is a wee bit too much. thats nearly double the original cost.. idk how is this balanced, like others mentioned this will leave u with no energy way too fast..

Bring DBL back ! Was way more entertaining than ABL! Like way better, loved it and after the linking of worlds it was actually pretty popular, with ques on all the BLs. Starting to see the ABL to be empty already as the nostalgia goggles have inevitably cracked , and people are camping EBG once more

Uhmmm you do realise the two most awesome gliders are earned in game ? Ad Infinitum and Asencaion gliders FYI . But I mean sure I would like some that drop from somewhere , like a couple , however since gliders sell like hot cakes and the premise that has been established – I’m almost sure they’ll remain largely gemstore only – much like outfits . Which is fine , as it’s a great source of revenue and Anet is a business , and the business of business is business. I think expecting gliders from dungeon tokens is EXTREMELY unrealistic

Ok I’ve noticed some people comment on why are the bubble/ ironclad gliders more expensive than Exalted/Phoenix/Classic etc. Now I believe the difference is the trail effects which the bubble/ironclad posses. So from what I got it’s:
Glider Skin – 400gems
Glider Skins with a trail effect- 500 gems
Glider+Backpack Combo – 700 gems.

So yeah apparently getting work done on new legenderies is too hard, and Anet wants to reallocate resources. I’m not gonna comment on how that makes me feel as we are getting close to 30 pages of replies that should indicate the opinion of the player base in the original post. So this post instead offers an idea. Let us take charge. I will gladly help write the lore/dialogue for new legenderies as that apparently takes effort and time . And I will do it for FREE. Unfortunately I personally suck with anything code/design related , however I’m sure that we can find talented volunteers in our amazing community who don’t suck at these tasks, who would be willing to help. At least let us work on it , you can set approval stages in order to make sure things are going to where you want them to go ( something that should’ve been done originally for the team in charge of this content). All I want is to see more legendary weapons in game , I don’t even care whether you guys do it or the community does it ..

No thanks. Part of the reason GW2 is loved is because of no addons/ no dps meters. Allows for immersion and such , plus feels MUCH more pleasant

Also what happens in the long-term? The way I see it there are the following options :
1. No more legendaries, ever. Cause clearly it’s too much work to get done lol.
2. They get their kitten together and deliver on the promised content ASAP ( <- best case scenario)
3. They decide to add the rest of the weps with the infamous expac#2 (so far seems to be the most likely option, and to me that basically screams ’Do NOT buy this , you will NOT get what you are promised )

Yep , gonna plus one OP. For those thinking it’s just fluff , that’s YOUR opinion. 20+ pages of the original MO post will tell you that for MANY it was long term goal, something to work on whilst you play all parts of the game, and once you were finished it culminated in an epic prestigious reward. LS can be played through pretty fast , and whilst I do adore it , right now there is NOTHING indicating that it won’t be postponed in July for uknown reasons. And if you think that you will get LS3 before July (at best!) you haven’t been following things.
TLDR please don’t scrap work on legenderies , for many it’s as big of a feature as LW – just work on 1 at a time and release it once it’s done, not together with a quarterly update, for the love of God , it’s not that hard.
