This is ridiculous. JQ can’t win a Matchup because they are too busy being poor sports camping anyone who enters the zone. You basically need to squander your efforts at EB PPT to get enough people through this puzzle. It is counterproductive for both PvE players and PvP players. Terrible idea.

A list of Suggestions/Fixes/Etc

Here is my list of suggestions, fixes and whatever else. Please feel free to add to the list or counter anything that you don’t like:

1) Fix Cooldowns that are caused by obstructed or out of range targets
2) Tab targeting made more user friendly by making it a cone that extends 2500 units out and prioritizes closest targets in the cone
3) Ease up on contested WPs. Some zones have 80+% contested WPs. They discourage players from playing the zone often: Harathi and Orr.
4) A reliable form of Swiftness for Guards and Mesmers. Ground targeted swiftness is often ran through and not activated. Sometimes it requires one to stop in it. Using Runes to lengthen swiftness is an unfair trade-off. Give a 15-25% speed buff to one of the signets already available.
5) World Event and WvWvW skill lag fix. These events were designed for large battles. However, a capped out zone or BL can not handle the forces meeting on the field of battle. Either lower the BL cap or fix the skill lag.
6) Allow for saving builds.
7) Lower dungeon gear grinds by 20-50%. It is so much easier and efficient to gear through Karma or WvWvW. Dungeons could use a buff so that people will want to do them more.
8) Lighten up on the farming nerf slightly.
9) Slightly lower respawn rate. While it is great when you outlevel a zone, it really blows when you are on level with it. A 30-60 second respawn rate in some areas is just brutal.
10) Continue to add cultural gears, skins and the like.
11) Change boxes from gem store and replace with guaranteed skin purchases and items like the Sickle, Pickaxe, Krytan armor, etc.
12) Add a Daily dungeon achievement with its own individual bonus reward; Liquid Karma, Gold, Double Badges or something else.
13) Add a Monthly dungeon achievement with similar rewards.

That is it for now…

This site seems to be very helpful for finding temples uncontested.

For Grenth, I think the server only shows up to the boss (yellow dot), unfortunately. Because we opened it the other day on SoR, and the yellow dot disappeared without switching to blue the entire time it was opened and reopened.

I am not sure if this post was meant to be a separate complaint against my post. As a returning player, I was just sharing a “first time” experience on RNG boxes. And I do agree with “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.” The RNG boxes taught me a lesson. $20 for nothing, Yeah. I learned my lesson. And hopefully, these posts deter others from purchasing them too.

True enough. The gem patron reward was rather lacking in the “thank you” factor.

So after farming Holographs for 30 mins or so, I find a rare trident and a rare event mini to sell and make about 2g versus wasting my money. Lesson learned. Never gamble when you do not know the odds. LOL.

I have also been crashing to desktop since the patch. I have never experienced such an unusual amount of crashing in this game since launch. Last night there were 5 or so of us chatting about it in Frostgorge sound. Today a few people were complaining about it in WvW.

Again, the conversation being had is that it is an unusual happening and that we hadn’t experienced this kind of crashing in the past. I send an error report on every crash to Anet.

@ANet: Why have DR for Karma and Rewards?

in Dynamic Events

Khaldar.7486

I just want to throw my 2 cents in. I have read quite a few comments stating this only affects high levels or people who farm. Well, I can say from experience that this is not the case.

My level 20 Necro was finishing up the map in Metrica province and was hit with the DR stick in less than an hour of gameplay.

I am a 46 yo husband and father who is lucky enough to have a wife and kids that give me a few hours uninterrupted once or twice a week to enjoy gaming. It is extremely frustrating to sit down with my office door closed and my cup of joe in hand expecting to spend some time leveling my character only to be hit with this insane system.

I do not feel it is acceptable to punish people who are actively playing the game regardless of how they choose to enjoy it. When I am able to sit down and enjoy a few hours of game time it is unacceptable to me to be punished so that I must change activities or modify my playstyle to accommodate some DR system.

I really have no further comment on this as I still feel Anet needs to explain why this system is in place. Until they do it is all speculation on our part. I will say though that the lack of communication is disheartening. A company should be willing to engage it’s consumers at every opportunity so it can continue to provide a quality product.

My 14 Warrior Alt was hit with the same DR after 40 minutes or so. It makes no sense to me for everyone to be punished.

Why does the game only let me play for 20 minutes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khaldar.7486

Yeah, that does not happen.

Or rather, if you log in, do 3 events in an area that you haven’t just done and aren’t repeats of failures, it means something bugged.

Really? Oh my, I guess that DR being active in WvW is also a bug, right? It’s a bit too obvious to forget, don’t you think?

I am not talking about WvW, nor have I ever seen karma reduciton in it, but I haven’t played it long enough in one sitting. It is possible the DR there might need some reworking.

Oh, and by the way, you just got yourself into a corner. Why would repeats of failure have to result upon DR? You’d rather that people didn’t even attemp something instead? Alright, go cap those temples in Orr yourself then, because I don’t want to risk DR due to a failure.

Because you just failed? Probably because failure is typically punished in games, not rewarded with a free reset of the event chain.

If you fail a dynamic event chain and wait for it to restart without doing anything else, you are reaping the effects of your failure. You fail, you move on, you come back a bit later. I’m sure a second run on the temple can handle things without your awesome assistance. Or not. I am not talking about attempting any chain that is “fresh” for you in a given zone, I am talking about deliberate reruns of a chain that you just failed without doing anything else in between.

I have never hit DR if I failed a temple chain, moved on to do some other stuff and then returned to it later on.

I am perfectly fine with taking reduced rewards for steps in a quest chain that I’ve just failed. And even in those cases, DR seems to be exceptionally rare. Except for cases where people fail a temple event, run off to tag all the surrounding defense/escort ones then return right back when it restarts, in which case the DR system is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

What MMOs are you playing that punish you for failing? Are you still playing EQ? Because that is the only game I can remember severely punishing someone for failing. I thought we graduated from that age of gaming.

Khaldar.7486

Yes, DR totally needs a new thread with the 2 ones that are on the front page of this very forum at the very moment, followed closely by the other 2 that popped up today.

DR will not hit you if you do not repeat the same events, move along the zone, fight mobs other then the ones spawned by the event and generally do something else then bouncing between in progress DRs.

sanadin

I completed 15 events in Orr in 49 minutes and began hitting the DR. I stayed for the duration of every event. There is nothing abnormal about my play.

That means that you spent 3.2 minutes on one event on average. Sorry, no. Cursed Shore is packed full of events, but its not that packed.

Exactly all these people kittening about DR all are full of kitten I play for hours every night in Orr and never hit any DR. The only way to hit DR is to stand at the end if one of the event chains where a defend this spot event pops over and over. If you move around at all you will get stacks if loot and karma. I filled my bags 3 times last night in the Straits and all 15+ events I did gave full rewards.

Well, your experience is different than mine. Yesterday, on my level 14 alt I hit DR in 30 minutes of running The Frozen Maw (Shiverpeak Mountains) and surrounding events. I zoned to Queensdale and proceeded to help kill the Shadow Behemoth. The DR rewarded me with 30XP for a gold finish. When I came to the forums to ask for help and understand what I did wrong the mod infracted me and told me to submit a bug report. So as far as I am concerned, your story is bullkitten, hehe.

To limit the gameplay of those that may not want to PvP all the time is mind-blowingly myopic.

I found mind-blowing the text in your post that I bolded.

So, you put blatant examples of games that force you to grind and farm like a bot and take them as example against the game where you can (slower) still farm but are completely not forced to?

To me it’s like reading a smoker under theraphy, blaming non smokers about how bad their habits are.

We all play games for different reasons and enjoy different ways of playing. Just like I enjoy my job differently than others. Some enjoy it by explaining how much profit they can make you. I enjoy it for the technical conversations and showing you how my choice saves lives. Neither way is wrong, but there are different ways to enjoy the job. Without that fulfillment the job has less meaning to both employees.

The individuals who believe we should be playing an MMO “ArenaNet’s way” are missing the point of the genre all together. Every MMO I have played for any length of time has allowed me to play certain core aspects of the game unlimited.

No, they haven’t. You just didn’t understand how they were limiting you.

Some of the games you mentioned had dramatically lower drop rates, dramatically lower leveling and advancement rates, and all of them had competition for spawns and nodes that also slowed you down. All of those things served the same purpose as the DR in GW2…but you accepted those things as givens simply because it was the way the games had always been. GW2 does things differently, and they have good reasons (based in their design philosophy) for doing those things differently.

Speed clearing in WoW and GW1 was not there to slow you down. And slowing people down by implementing a HARD STOP in GW2 is the wrong way to go about it. Adjust the Karma rewards by 10-25%, or XP. Don’t make me stop doing what I am doing. Remember if you want Epics , you must farm at some point.

And to say, “You just didn’t understand how they were limiting you” is ridiculous. While I was farming a Giant for weeks in EQ to get a single item, I was well aware of the low drop rates. While I was camping “dorfs” on my Druid to gain a level for hours and hours and hours, I was well aware of the steep XP curve I was experiencing. While running 4 zones to retrieve my body from a bad dungeon run, I was aware of how that reduced my ability to acquire gear and possibly lose gear.

The individuals who believe we should be playing an MMO “ArenaNet’s way” are missing the point of the genre all together. Every MMO I have played for any length of time has allowed me to play certain core aspects of the game unlimited. However, ANet is dictating how ALL play their game. This totally goes against the freedom we have enjoyed over almost 2 decades of MMOs.

In UO: Farm Ore, farm skills, farm wood, farm Player Kills, etc. (4 years played)
In EQ: Camp Mobs for 12 straight hours, farm drops for gear, farm gear in dungeons, etc. (6 years played)

To limit the gameplay of those that may not want to PvP all the time is mind-blowingly myopic. Other games that have recently went under did not listen to their vocal playerbase. There were players in the forums defending the game. 6 months later those defending the game started leaving the game. I’m not saying this is the fate of GW2, but to ignore even 10-25% of their playerbase could bite them in the butt if they continually do things like this over the next 6 months.

PSA: Stop hounding Anet about bots

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khaldar.7486

If the choice is between bots or draconian measures, I would take bots any day.

At the end of the day, bots and farmers are always going to do their thing; as long as it doesn’t adversely interfere with our every day activity, I see no problem with it.

There should be a clear policy to deal with these of course, but never to the point where it starts affecting the legit players.

I agree with you; however, Anet is obviously trying to protect their TP for gems market. This struggle between the botters, hardcore players and Anet’s TP is why the DR has been implemented. Anet has been taking a very passive stance on botters thus far and aggressively focusing on farmers, in general.

Screaming and yelling for botters to be dealt with only strengthens Anet’s argument to increase DR constraints. Unfortunately, this effects any individual even considering earning a legendary within the next year through conventional farming. The other question that arises from all this is “to bot, or not to bot.”

Most MMORPGs don’t allow you to be anon. If there’s such a thing in rift or swtor, I don’t remember it.

If you really want to be anon, log off.

In a massively multiplayer game, there should be no anon, and you shouldn’t exibit any behaviors that make you think you should be anon. If you have stalkers, report them, because companies tend to take that more seriously than a lot of other stuff and will deal with it.

While I understand your hardline approach to the whole “MMORPG” thing. As far back as I can remember in my MMO experience which would be Ultima Online, I was always able to create another alt to play without being worried that my guild would take offense that I am online and not playing with them.

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Khaldar.7486

Khaldar.7486

While I agree that there could be some difficulty adjustments in Dragons and “Group” Daily events. overall I think the leveling content and daily events should remain unadjusted.

If you look at this from a business perspective, would you rather cater to the hardcore players? These players will typically earn everything and spend less money on gems. Or casual players that are doctors, business owners, 9 to 5ers with more disposable income who are willing to buy $100s of gems?

Scare off the casuals, and you are left with a game of insatiable hardcore players that typically have less disposable income. Alienate the casual’s income and you have a F2P game with fewer content updates… you choose…

All that the level 80s had to complain about were bugs. Now, many of us are debating investing any more time into a game that may keep getting worse. How can we trust that ANet won’t take away the next piece of enjoyment many of us find in the game?

These bad anti-botting changes have ruined the game for many live players. It is a bandaid over a gushing wound that is inflicting more harm than good. If they are concerned with the economy, can’t they increase BoA and BoE rather than reduce drops.

Some of us LOVE our drops, and our crafted items. But, these changes are killing the crafting professions. The very professions that you need to grind before you can grind for your Legendaries.

Now, I understand that many people are still having fun playing the game the way they want to (exploring entire maps, bouncing around to find random events), but many people are really frustrated with the dictating of how we are supposed to play a game in a genre that we enjoy for its open-endedness. When there are no more zones to explore, you are left with bouncing around zones (looking for people doing a random event in the same area), PvP and getting guild dungeon groups together (pugging explorables is atrocious).

While this sounds like a lot to do, how are you earning your money and fine materials to craft after these nerfs? The dungeons now reward far far less SP and XP. The farming nerf requires TPing a lot and results in far less items/materials found. The DEs don’t reward that much SP either.

So how do they undo what has been done or improve it? Will they? Either way, I will not purchase another gem ($50 is a drop in the hat) until I feel comfortable with the direction of the game.

Can someone explain these "cap limits" with farming mobs/dungeons ?

If you just play, enjoy yourself, do all the various content available in each zone…you will never notice an issue.

Unless of course…you enjoy farming to be able to able to level your crafting without having to purchase mats from the Trading Post.

The issue is that ArenaNet, by adding diminishing returns..is mandating that people play their game a certain way. For those that want to be able to supply their own mats for crafts, they now cannot (or at least it now takes a lot longer).

Of course they want you to play it their way. We should feel privileged that they allow us to log in to “their” game and dictate what we do to have fun. Please don’t forget to use the cash-shop. GG Anet (D3 clone)!

LOLOL… go farming? go farming? decreased drop rates have ruined farming… unless of course you want to farm several different areas for several different types of mats… This game is becoming D3!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

…on what could be a great game.

I understand all these nerfs to drop rate to discourage botters, but why punish the players? Is Arena so hard up for botters selling their rares on the TP that they won’t hunt them down more vigorously? Is Arena not losing that much money to botters at the moment that they are trying to discourage casual farming?

ArenaNet appears to be making the same mistakes D3 made (another game ruined by RL money shopping). Dropping the loot rate and farm rate discourages players from playing the game and “tries” to encourage players to use a cash-shop system to exchange gems for gold to buy rare and exotic items. The problem is that they are placing (or removing) the carrot on the stick so far away from the playerbase that many players realize the entire system is a waste of time… because it is not fun.

Just because this game is B2P, doesn’t mean it can’t fail… D3!

Holy Trinity Removal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khaldar.7486

Khaldar.7486

Here’s the thing guys…

The holy trinity basically means that there is one group dynamic/tactic that the entire game is built upon. And that tactic is called “tank and spank.” This tactic works in almost every single situation in a holy trinity game.

Removing the holy trinity simply means that there is no longer one tactic that will work EVERYWHERE. You now need to actively try to find strategies to use.

It does NOT mean that everything turns into a zerg. Everything turns into a zerg when no one is organized…this can happen with or without the holy trinity. BUT the holy trinity does make it easier to organize because everyone knows what they are supposed to do in any situation. And I’m pretty sure that’s why it was implemented in the first place…to facilitate organization.

But honestly, I’m happy that the trinity is gone. It’s like the training wheels have finally been removed. Yes, sometimes things get chaotic because people don’t know what to do…but that’s because you actually have to TALK and work out a plan. You can’t just run in and do your pre-defined actions anymore and expect success out of any situation.

+1

I couldn’t agree more.

Holy Trinity Removal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khaldar.7486

Khaldar.7486

So everyone wanting the Trinity back you’re willing to:

a) sit in a que for over an hour for a tank
b) sit in a que for over 30 mins for a healer
c) stopping a dungeon run because you need to kick a bad DPS (not enough DPS or just stands in fire)
d) or sit in a city hub spamming “LF XYZ class” filling chat with useless drivel

That’s really where we would be again. So unless you guys have a better idea of how to go about it, I like the combat system as is.

There are many ways around that.
MMO’s you play with friends and find guilds that want to run dungeons so you dont have these 30 – 1 hour ques.
And to be honest this games dungeons lack big time. From strategy to rewards to originality.

If you are looking for Dungeons with advanced strats. TSW was much better than WoW. WoW was/is grab a tank and a healer then speed run ez mode to badges. The pugs in TSW were terrible unless they were overgeared.

i agree with this statement as well. I really like how guild wars 2 is, but i really enjoyed being a tank in other mmos. It just seems like this game (which isn’t a bad thing) has no strategy involved other than just rushing into boss fights or capturing forts / keeps. I like how guild wars 2 is trying to be different, but i just think that the holy trinity is not a bad thing that people make it out to be. There is a reason why there are still millions of people subscribing to wow (although most people dislike the game).
Guild wars 2 did a lot of great things in their game and its still a great game but i just think if i had the chance to swap to another Holy trinity game of equal quality as guild wars 2 i think i and many others would.

TL:DR Holy trinity is not a bad thing as of guild wars 2 i currently view it as a casual game instead of a competitive game as it lacks strategy and different roles.
I’m not trying to bash guild wars 2 by no means, but this game would improve for me if there was a holy trinity.

Edit: The Holy trinity allows for classes to be unique and different as of right now all the classes for me feel the same.

With a strategically organized group all classes are definitely not the same. AoE condition damage, AoE heal/Damage mitigation, AoE Bleeds Damage and then there are single target version of each. If you think an 80 Necro and an 80 Elemental play the same, then you haven’t played both classes. If you think an 80 Warrior and 80 Mesmer play the same, then you haven’t played both classes. If you think an 80 Engineer and an 80 Ranger play the same, then you haven’t played the classes. And if you have played these classes through Arah and you play them the same (which is near impossible while being effective), then you are doing it wrong.

Many people are basing their experiences on the 2 easiest dungeons (CM and CoF). Pug the more difficult ones (AC and Arah) and then tell us that zerg tactics are what wins in the end.

Im not basing my opinion off the 2 easiest dungeons im just stating what i feel. Yeah each class does play different but theres only one point and that is to dps. Yes there are other ways to play a class like aoe heals / support abilities but to be honest i just think they go unnoticed.

Condition removal and additions can sway a boss fight. I do not pug, my guild does dungeon runs pretty much any time of day and we always use voice chat. With strats and voice coordination, we do not wipe on boss fights. We have CoF down to 19 minute coordinated runs without deaths and are always looking to lower that time with better strats.

This “Zerging” from the WP that people are talking about sounds like a bunch of bad pug strats to turn the game into WoW speed runs. Again DPS may be awesome for pug strats, but not every boss is going to be easily downed with just a DPS zerg strat. Some boss fights are easier if you kite the boss on 1 player while the other 4 coordinate an objective. Some require 2 players to bounce mobs off of while the other 3 step in and out of the room dpsing.

i agree with this statement as well.

Holy Trinity Removal

The “Holy Trinity” was started by Everquest in MMOs. It was Healer, Tank and Mana Battery (Enchanter). You could NOT do a dungeon without those classes. WoW ‘dumbed down’ the Holy Trinity to start with. And developers have been working to remove it from games altogether. As an EQer, I was initially against the removal of the Holy Trinity. Now, I believe it is an archaic DnD-style system that is used to make content easier once you have said “Trinity.”

Furthermore, many players take on complexes (Tanks and Healers) that they are greater than the team. This reason alone is why “bring the player and not the class” is a better strategy. No group/guild wants to feel shackled into bringing some guy that needs his tanking kitten stroked because they HAVE to have his class.

I am all for the development of MMOs to remove the Trinity (which WoW made a Duo) in favor of well rounded classes that must manage their own survivability. Here is to upping the group’s skill and communicataion while removing the bads from groups.

I Wish Vistas Were Not Needed for Zone Completion

WOW!!!!!!

“The game is too hard for me. Please make it easier. I do not like to be challenged while I sit at my computer eating Jelly Donuts wondering why I don’t have a job.”

Come on. Raise your game and stop asking for everything to be given to you (zone completion). It is not that hard to master jumping. Learn to use elongated angles to increase landing surface area. Learn not to keyboard turn.

So you don't give me any quest hubs for my own level

Thanks for the tips guys…

So to clarify something though… “map completion” rewards a big chunk of xp? So if I was level 40 and went back to the 1st zone, I will still get ??? xp?

Yes

But I don’t understand how you’ve hit a level wall. I’m level 37 and I haven’t hit a wall yet. I do daily every day and map completions for each zone I’ve been to (I’ve yet to leave human zone). I do hit a node almost every time I see one, but the exp isn’t that great from doing so. From this I’ve leveled 1-37 in relatively short order – about 40hrs into the game. At least 5hrs trying to figure out crafting recipes, 1 hr making my character, a couple doing jumping puzzles, etc, and at least 5 in WvW (not much Exp gained when you are in the zerg). I’d say, of actual game play I’ve spent maybe 20.

I don’t understand that either… It took me 62 hours /played on my first 80. Definitely not even close to Asian MMO worthy… try 6.2 months in those games.

So you don't give me any quest hubs for my own level

I was going to tell him how to get 1 level per event at his level when combined with +50% xp boost, but nah… He seems too much like a complainer.

How can I tell if someone is botting?

You can’t know for certain, but they won’t be simply banned without an investigation (which is why it takes so long to get the scammers and goldsellers banned as well I think).

If they’re just standing there, not moving or using a heal, using the same ability over and over then they’re probably a botter.

Real players will move unpredictably and heal themselves at least once if they’re getting attacked. Even bad players. Observe their behaviour for a couple of minutes and if you genuinely think that they’re botting then report them, if you’re still uncertain then leave them alone.

This is NOT the behavior of the bots for GW2. This is the behavior of someone who’s using the standard interface with auto-fire turned on.

Bots for GW2 do move around and use abilities, gather loot, and whatnot. They’ll either follow a path, or roam a particular area.

Not if they are Event spawn camping!

What would happen, if i googled GW2 bots?

Would I find 5 or 6 bots to run this GW2? Everywhere I look, I see bots. I feel like I am in the ArenaNet version of Sixth Sense.

What do you do once the Anti-Farm script kicks in?

I switch zones for a bit and farm there. Then I return. I farmed events all the way to 80 – chained the same events most of the time. It is easy to stay in a loop before 80. IMO…Once you get to 80, it is best to expand to loop to other zones or mine.

Wow, that doesn’t sound very fun.

Only took 57 hours played to hit 80 with event loops

I just keep farming because there is no anti-farm script from what I’ve been able to tell.

There is a script that reduces XP and Karma gained from events if you keep doing the same one over and over in a short time frame.
