Good info …any other suggestions?

Also… which weapon sigils would you suggest? Likely Force + something I’m guessing? Accuracy maybe (that’s the 7% crit one right?)?

Since returning to GW2 recently (after a long break) I haven’t played my Necro much at all… but I’ve been tossing spare Tomes of Knowledge his way and he’s nearing level 80 (he was already 50 from before).

His old build was wonky and not optimized to anything really well… but I really want to make him a solid Minion Master (now that they seem to function well). From what I can tell, though, you can build them many solid ways. Condition-focused, Power-focused, Healing-focused, etc… all seem possible in combination with the Minion Master thing.

MY GOAL: For solo PvEing, map completion, etc… I’m looking to build and gear a solid Minion Master (that could maybe move into small-group PvE content later).

So what I ask you all:
What “type” of Minion Master would you suggest (i.e. Condition MM, etc) and what specific gear stats should I be aiming for (by name, i.e. Berzerker, etc)? …and what weapons (staff, dagger, etc) would you pair with your suggestion? Also Sigil and Rune suggestions would be great.

NOTE: Keep in mind I’m just approaching 80 and still want to be going through the non-HoT stuff so the new specialization is NOT all unlocked and ready to use and likely won’t be for awhile…

Thanks a TON for any and all advice.

High DPS solo PvE classes?

Good to hear Revenant is a solid class… for whatever reason, when investigating things in prep of coming back to GW2, I was seeing very little said about the class (then again, could just be coincidence or I missed it somewhere heh).

Any other suggestions?

P.S. Some of the new specializations from HoT sounds cool, but I’m assuming the majority of the time I’d spend PvEing (for awhile at least) would be just to unlock the skills instead of enjoying them right off the bat. But it’s good to know that some of them are fun/good because I might just bite the bullet and shoot for one of the elite specs anyway…

High DPS solo PvE classes?

Khaziel.3164

To clarify: I’m not just asking for the #1 dps character taking nothing else into consideration…. I’m just wondering which classes are doing high-end damage and solo PvEing the best overall (and that can include higher damage mixed with survivability, but it doesn’t have to heh …so glass-cannon Elementalists would count too).

High DPS solo PvE classes?

As things currently stand, which are the best high dps solo PvE classes in GW2? …in the leveling 60-80 & 80+ HoT stuff?

From when I played a good while back (recently returned and bought HoT), I ended up with a level 80 Mesmer and all seven other original classes to level 60. Though I haven’t made him yet, I’m going to use that free level 80 boost on a Revenant (as that’s the only class I haven’t already got to a respectable level). …but of course getting any of those 60s to 80 isn’t a big deal (especially as the Tomes of Knowledge keep rolling in).

I’m assuming Mesmer is still probably the lowest dps heh (I still love mine though).
Beyond that (if correct), I’m not sure where things stand overall nowadays. Which are the highest dps solo PvE characters to take into HoT? If you want to list specializations or class “types” (i.e. Minion Master Necro) or whatever that’s great but not necessary.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Can character names have apostrophes in them?

I don’t have a free character slot to check…
Can character names in GW2 have apostrophes in them? Just curious (before considering a name change or for when buying a character slot for my Revenant now that I have HoT).

Thanks in advance.

Is there ever a sale on character slots?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khaziel.3164

Do they often (or ever) have a sale on character slots? If so, how much are they commonly on sale for (if there is a common amount they put them on sale for)?

I’m going to pick up HoT while it’s on sale but really don’t care about the extra stuff in the $38 pack… I’d rather pick up the $25 pack and wait for a character slot sale (so I can buy a 9th slot to make a Revenant) if that’s an option. …but if they never (or very infrequently) go on sale, that could change my mind.

Thanks.

Messing with stuff I think I’ve landed on a concept/build that works well for me…

Though I like Greatsword well-enough, I think I’m enjoying Longbow & Sword+Axe better.

I maxed out Marksmanship and Wilderness Survival and am liking the synergy between Remorseless and Wilderness Knowledge (popping Troll Unguent and Quickening Zephyr for buffs + regaining Opening Strike).

That being said, I still have points left and need to pick a third tree to start working on for when I unlock the third spec to equip (still 15 or so levels away).

Both Beastmastery and Skirmishing look good on paper but I’m not sure which would work better. …and of course maybe I’m missing some cool synergy in the other specs entirely. (remember, I don’t have access to Druid)

Any suggestions?

Raguel: When I left I had an 80 Mesmer and 55-ish every other class

I found solid current info on some, but the other 3 I wasn’t as sure of …thus the three very-similar posts :p (Ranger, Thief, and Guardian)

Think I should be good with this Thief info – Thanks all!

…still not sure on my Guardian or Ranger though…

I recently started messing around with GW2 again… after being away since the first few months the game was out. Since then, of course, they reworked stuff and locked in a bunch of things on my character’s builds that I find… well, sub-optimal. On all my characters I have some free hero points to work with though.

My Ranger is currently level 55 and has about 155 hero points saved up …so enough to max out two specialization paths (or whatever they’re called, sorry I forget some terms). Thing is, most of the info I’ve looked up seems outdated or geared towards end-game, HoT PvP/WvW builds.

I’m looking for a solid SOLO leveling PvE build to go from 55-80 smoothly. You don’t need to get ultra-detailed… I’d be happy with:
Spec 1: X
Spec 2: Y
Spec 3: Z
Weapon Set 1: A
Weapon Set 2: B
Any more info is appreciated, but the above would at least give me a running start…
Thanks in advance for any info!

How many hero points does it take to unlock the new specialization at 80?
How many hero points does it take to unlock and fully fill-out (complete) the new specialization at 80?

Quick Revenant Question...

Khaziel.3164

Need to know for certain…
If you buy HoT and make a brand-new Revenant, can you use the included “Max Level Boost” to instantly have a level 80 Revenant? …just making sure they didn’t put a restriction on the new class relating to the max level boost or anything.

Also, am I reading this right that the Standard Edition of HoT doesn’t include a character slot? If so, that totally sucks… basically increase the price of the expansion by $10 just because I made one of each profession in my 8 slots when I bought the original game way back when. Kinda weak…

Thanks in advance for any info!

Question about upgrade slots...

in Mesmer

Posted by: Khaziel.3164

Khaziel.3164

Ah… Ascended is just a rarity rating then. Thought you had to do something to ascend gear or something. No, I have no ascended or legendary gear. Exotics are even a bit expensive for me, but I’ll look into it… at least for my main weapons.

No… no clue how that works.

Question about upgrade slots...

in Mesmer

Khaziel.3164

I’m newly back to GW2 (after being away since the first couple months of the game being out). …and I’ve never messed with the upgrade slots in my armor or weapons – when leveling I just switched stuff out too often to really focus on them.

My Mesmer just hit 80 and I have plenty I still want to do on the character. I do not have HoT. I have some gold saved up, but I’m far from ultra-rich.

What would you suggest I put in my armor and weapon upgrade slots on my new level 80 gear? I’m currently Dueling / Illusions / Domination – using Greatsword and Sword/Focus (might experiment with other non-focus off-hands now). Berserker gear setup (power/precision/ferocity).

Any info greatly appreciated – I’m kinda clueless on the inner-workings of upgrade slots…

Considering coming back, couple questions

I haven’t played GW2 since very early-on after release.

I purchased the core GW2 game and played all 8 classes through their “starter” zones up to level 32-ish and moved away from GW2 shortly thereafter (so only a couple months into the game being live). I haven’t touched it since.

I’m considering giving it another shot.

I know there have been some kind of live events over the years and there was a recent expansion (Heart of Thorns).

Question 1) Do I need (or is it strongly suggested) to get Heart of Thorns a.s.a.p.? …or does it not even matter till I get through the original core content? Is there any real significant reason to own HoT before you get a character through the original release’s content (aside from the new class, of course)? (note: Assuming you want to play through it aside from the “get a free level 80” thing)

Question 2) If I own the original GW2 version and purchased the base Heart of Thorns edition, would I have the “full” game – i.e. “all the expansion materials of note since the launch of the game”? …or are there more hidden purchases required to basically have the “full” current game?

Question 3) Which classes are currently the most solo-viable? I solo a lot and only normally really worry about group content in the end-game…

Question 4) This is always a subjective, hard to answer question… but I’ll try anyway. For an player new to the game (as I’d essentially be after all this time), how long does it commonly take to hit max level nowadays? Early on I remember it was a hell of a grind but things like that often change over the years in MMOs? I don’t need a hard hour count… just in general …and do you hit it in this time by playing through the content (questing, exploring, etc) or is there tons of kill grinding to progress at a reasonable pace?

Thanks in advance for any info!
