^The condition damage system in GW1 was brilliant and it worked flawlessly. Completely agreed. It’s so shameful we ended up with this utter mess. It’s only going to get worse with new elite specs.

They should scrap the condition system from PvP and WvW and learn from GW1 to implement something similar, the game would improve sooo much. Can you imagine GW2 PvP without having to get as much condition cleansing as you can get in 100% of your builds within the limits of viability? One can only dream.

Longbow Should Pierce Baseline

From a PvP pow, both the longbow AND the shortbow should pierce baseline, at least their autoattacks and Longbow 2. 1200 range for shortbow as well, it’s in need of some serious love.

Condition damage should be removed ENTIRELY as a play-style. It would need drastic changes. But it would be better as a whole for the game. It’s so anti-GuildWars-like. They force you to constantly watch over your bar. Over their duration, their application, your condi cleanses CDs and so forth. It feels forced, it doesn’t feel organic whatsoever. When you fight a power build you focus so much more on the game, it’s several times more fun.

I know it’s never gonna happen, so whatever.

Hello? You know you can play with team mates that can cover up your weaknesses? They might not be that good because once they enter Photon Forge they are locked in it a few seconds without stability and other defensive stuff, but hey, I’m talking about the damage here. It’s ridiculous, and we all agree with that.

You know you have throw elixer b, right? As well as the option to extend the range of your auto attack, or have corona burst grant stab? Stab is the least of a Holosmith’s problems, getting counter-bursted is. However, if you can draw their attention and kite/tank, despite high DPS on their end and possible range while a teammate guns ’em down from afar, your good.

Of course I know, I’ve been playing an alchemy Holosmith for several hours now. Perma 25 stacks of might in combat, a ranged 3k AoE AA on Forge. My point was that Holosmith with team support becomes even better.

It needs to CD of the current attunement you’re already in to be reduced to something like 2 seconds or so, 4s is a little much. I don’t like the idea of using the utility skill to overcome this.

The damage of Photon Forge is absurd in PvP, it’s going to get nerfed eventually (hopefully, that level of damage is not healthy for the game). Otherwise it’s a very fun spec indeed! It’s the one I liked the most actually, but I think it was due to the OPness of the damage lol.

Meh spec, average at best. It’s a neat addition for sure. But just as I said in previous posts, it’s more of a PvE spec and mayyybe a WvW zerg build sharing stances. Doesn’t hold a candle to Druid in PvP and WvW roaming.

If you want mobility, meld with the Rock Gazelle and use F2.

Just scrap/change Dire and Trailblazer gear (although it wouldn’t be needed with my following suggesitons) and make conditions be able to crit. Lower base condition damage. Now crit chance and crit damage are needed in order to do good damage sacrificing even more defensive stats (as it should be). Make some of the conditions punish you in different and interesting ways when you clean them off to compensate… or make the condition cleansing skills consume some of your endurance bar. There.

As it has been posted already, condi thieves are not that strong or uncounterable. D/P DD is still top choice. Although, they are very annoying and frustrating to fight against, and that’s a perfectly legitimate complaint.

SLB Stuff:
- dagger MH, Bear Stance, Griffon Stance, and Vulture Stance
- Unstoppable Union for stunbreak, Second Skin/Predator’s Cunning, Eternal Bond

- two invulns from the brown bear, swoop from the hawk to disengage
- huge poison/bleed damage
- Bear Stance, SoR, Evasive Purity, and Second Skin for condis.
- SS can be changed to Predator’s Cunning…just not sure if it’s any good in practice. Poison Volley would heal for 850, which isn’t terrible especially when combined with MH dagger spam.
- lots and lots of I-frames. Can add energy sigils for more, but likely unnecessary
- the missing vit and toughness from the build is sort of ameliorated by the Stout pet category while in beastmode

Probably lots to improve on, and I’ve no idea how it will work out in the end. But I cant see anything huge missing. I think it can go A LOT tankier than this, or more damage…but this seems to be a decent balance.

SB looks really fun and strong with this build, I’m pretty giddy about it. Finally a reason to use LoYF. D/D combo seems to be strong. tons of condi pressure, a good I-frame, and mobility. This feels like a true kittening ranger.

edit: better variant with Poison Master and WS. More damage and prot synergy.

Anything that throws condis at you destroys you with that build. Condi reapers, condi mesmers, burn guards (yep), and condi thieves. Switch NM to WS. Bear Stance and SoR are not going to save you. Using a bear or other crap pets just to get condi cleansing in BeastM is not worth it imo.

Otherwise, yeah… SB+D/D could get some interesting play with Soulbeast. I’m excited for that. Shortbow is a great and underrated weapon, it only needs to be paired with something decent to complement it with.

To be completely honest, aside from unblockable attacks and high quickness uptime, it looks more like a PvE spec.
It doesn’t have any form of condi cleansing aside from the heal skill, which is not good (look at Healing Spring), it also has really poor base healing.
I don’t understand this sudden emphasis on the protection boon, on average, rangers don’t really have high protection uptime unless heavily specced…

The heal is excellent if you remove the 8 conditions, that’s 8227 healing, so the best heal we have. That’s without any healing power and you can get +25% on top of that for melding with a supportive pet. So a possible 8 conditions removed and 10283 heal every 25s you call not good? If you are melded with the supportive pet, you get another 5k heal and 3s of Resistance for 5 allies in a 600 radius per 40s too.

They can’t give the SoulBeast any more condition removal, the core spec has enough to cover it, look at the changes to Survival skills and WK. Traiting Soften the Fall & WK with Bear Stance is 10 conditions every 25s… One skill.

Speaking of Wilderness Survival, that’s the reason for the Protection Boon focus, synergy with this traitline. Also see Protective Ward and Eternal Bond. As well as -33% condi damage when you have Prot.

D/T & S/A, Wilderness Survival (StF, RT, WK), Nature Magic (AA, VT, PW), Soulbeast (LF, PC, EB), Grove Runes, Sage amulet, Snow Owl & Bristleback, Bear Stance, MT, LR, QZ, Entangle. Think about it.

It’s all about Wilderness Survival, with protection boon even more. That’s exactly why I don’t like it that much. Noone likes an over reliance on one trait line. All professions have incredible condition removal if they fully focus on that, some seemingly bad skills also become really strong given proper context, that’s not the point of my post, too many ‘ifs’ in your post. Rangers still have to use super defensive traits(lines) to remain even slightly viable.

Bad pets outside of beastmode are still bad pets.
This elite spec doesn’t change the playstyle of the Ranger all that much either (compared to Druid even less so).

I also said that I’m only slightly dissapointed, more choices is always better.

This spec is made so that it encourages you to enter and exit beastmode, some pets may have some good skills in beastmode, but don’t forget that outside of it, they are still bad pets.

Soulbeast looks more in line with something like Berserker in its current state then the power creep that is coming with Weaver.

Pretty much. In terms of PvP, I’m a little mad the only decent condi removal from rangers comes from Wilderness Knowledge, Soulbeast as well as the other traitlines offer nothing in that regard. I’m slightly dissapointed.

1. After pet swapping, the pet will be invisible for like 0.5 sec.
2. After pet swapping, there is still a small lag on f2 sometimes (tested on tiger, even under quickness).
3. After pet swapping, if you instant cast f2 once, the pet is still UNRESPONSIVE sometimes, which means you need to SPAM f2 (tested on bristleback, tiger, and smokescale).

This is quite annoying while you are doing a combo like longbow #2 – pet swap to bristleback (and proc zephyr’s speed quickness) – f2 spike barrage. You think the pet is casting, but its not… gg ranger

Seeing the same thing – pet responsiveness immediately after swap is still not working correctly. After I pet swap and hit F2, the pet doesn’t act. I find myself mashing F2 repeatedly to get the pet to act.

yep same thing here, the timing that im used to with pet swap+f2(smoke or burst) is complete off.
Its not as bad as few days ago, but still very annoying and in certain situations of pvp it causes problems.
I have had situations where i blast my smoke field, but the f2 bugged so i waste blast on nothing, resulting for example in getting rekt by thief who +1s.

Seriously, I’ve been having so much success as WS+BM+Druid that I never considered NM because I thought it was the less effective choice (I still do). Now after the buffs I’m nigh unstoppable. Only counters I ever had are berserker warriors (condi and power), condition thieves and (good) condition reapers (not so much after buffs).
Berserkers just got a massive nerf.
Reapers are getting their Deathly Chill trait nerfed in the next balance pass.
Condition thieves will get nerfed eventually as they are kittened (specially a good one).

Fortifying Bond should be baseline anyways. (-.-)

When it comes to WvW roaming though, in my opinion, base ranger will never be the superior choice over druid, Druidic Clarity+Celestial Shadow make sure of it, but you also have all the other added utility and sustain.

Soulbeast will have a 10s CD, 1200 range leap with a bird, can stack lots of invulnerabilities too. That huge mobility alone could give it viability. But I think it’s the traits that could make or break the spec.

Soulbound items and crafting

Only if you’re using the crafting table, where it can draw from your bank directly. . For any mystic forge recipe, which requires you to be able to move it into inventory, you have to use the soulbound character.

Although there aren’t many recipes I can think of that use soulbound items directly. Legendary crafting requires you to salvage them for essence, except in the case of gen 2.5, where the previous items aren’t even used to create the next tier items.

I’ll explain my case.

I’m trying to craft the Shimmering Staff, I only have enough guild commendations to buy the recipe, but said Shimmering Staff requires a Guild Pillar to be crafted and lvl 450 in Artificer. I have the Guild Pillar but is soulbound to another character that doesn’t have 450 in Artificer, and there lies my doubt in the matter. If I’ll be able to use it in the crafting station with the character with 450 Artificer where the Guild Pillar is not soulbound to.

It hasn’t been fully fixed as far as I can tell. There’s a small delay still (pretty annoying), pet’s F2s don’t respond immediately after pet-swaping (completely negating some damage combos in the process). Then there’s the everlasting issue of quickness not fully working on some pets.

And as I’ve been reading, I’d have to agree, pets feel squishier for some reason.

If Empathetic bond was a 50/50 split like PvE, it would be alright, just alright, not great, however in PvP it’s kittening hot garbage, it not only barely reduces condis on you, but in PvP our pet gives US 80% of its condi durations, that means if your pet runs through a fire field we’re getting 80% of that.

Where it matters, PvP and WvW, currently, it’s 20% condition reduction to Rangers and 80% on the pet. That’s it. Basically a Grandmaster trait that gives 20% condi reduction. Is it really worth it? Why should we have to equip certain runes and food buffs to make this trait even remotely worthwhile?
….In my opinion? It’s pretty fvcking trash on its own. Just like 2 of the SoulBeast GM traits.

Do these skills share CDs with pet skills? If not, that’s really strong and pretty cool. It would encourage dancing in and out of beastmode.
What happens if the pet is dead, can you still meld with it?

It all comes down to traits also. If it has some good condi cleansing traits, you can forego other deffensive trait lines and go more offensive, making those offensive trait lines finally used in PvP. I’m eager to know more about those traits, sadly none of the youtubers has that info for us.
Hopefully those trash grandmaster traits get improved.

Have you guys seen Holosmith’s Photon Forge ridiculous power coheficients? I theorycrafted an HGH Holosmith build that could potentially have 20 to 25 might stacks with around 80% uptime, in addition to that, great condi cleansing and with Protection Injection+15s CD stun breaker that reduces all dmg by 50% (it should stack), you have one sturdy highly damaging motherfvcker.

With a grandmaster trait that removes condies every half a second when you have superspeed… such a thing removes the need to rely on water to remove condies. The Weaver also offers some interesting defensive skills, so you could potentially have a very well rounded Fresh Air ele, a vastly improved version of what you can have right now.

Ranger’s Soulbeast on the other hand… it seems very bland and their GM traits are utter trash.

Fresh air will be thief fodder still. Theory craft 95% of builds and the chances are thief will make them not viable on its own. You cant avoid thieves as they are fast so if your spec is bad vs thieves then you cant play it.

Doesnt matter what fresh air ele tries to do when they get 1 shot by thieves whilst being perma stunned

Indeed, pretty much. Yet, we still don’t know all of the dual skills or the Sword skills, there may be something there that might help them against thieves.

Also, Scourge doesn’t seem all that good at first glance to be honest. Poor mobility + no stability + no Shourd HP = …
Will the new Barrier make up for it? We don’t know yet.

and one of the Soulbeast’s GM traits literally gives you a second life if you get downed in Beastmode.

When it comes to PvP, a pitiful 3.9k heal on the verge of death is absolutely nothing. Is up there as one of the worst GM traits in the game, in my humble opinion.
With that ridiculous CD, if it gave a hefty heal and applied rersistance or cleansed conditions it could be a worthy contender.

I have been looking for more on the spec’s traits but have seen nothing unfortunately.

Sharing stances (Leader of the Pack) can be interesting, but really, nothing that alters or improves your personal gameplay, meh. Eternal Bond is just an inferior version of the Berserker trait Dead or Alive… with tripple the CD and heals for LESS, and the Warrior’s one is not even a granmaster trait! It’s just THAT bad.

As a whole, this spec is underwhelming. Specially the grandmaster traits which I may think some are placeholders because they are either utter crap or incredibly boring.

The dagger is heavily condi focused btw.

It would all depend on how those pet skills perform when fused with the pet and the rest of the traits. All in all so far, meh.

Ya that’s probably stormseed, they were air spike eles. That gives me hope the Iboga will be a “mesmer” which introduces some cool (and better yet, useful) ideas for a pet.

I think it’s the Iboga that gives you some projectile skills that inflict confusion.

The Soulbeast is designed as an evasive melee condition spec.

If that post is real… that would mean that anet listened to many of the suggestions ppl made in the past in this forum…. and that would make me really happy.

On that point… I think it is fake, or an old prototype… Toooo many coincidence with the major suggestions that where made in this forum… Anet listens, but not that much. I would be cautious you don’t fall in love with it.

The game has become too spammy with power creep. I think the fact that most classes dont have to manage a secondary resource like in many other mmos has since the games release gotten some criticism for making the game spammy (minimal incentive to not use most good skills on cd). At the very least, cc and stun breaks, evades and invulns were carefully considered in pvp. with across the board cd reductions on very powerful defensive skills, even these elements require minimal consideration these days.

The game needs to slow down and become more deliberate. dmg has to be rebalanced so that it is more bursty with significantly lower dps. sustain in the form of heals, invulns and blocks need to be nerfed very hard. timing these defensive skills to counter an opponents burst should be much more important than it currently is.

I completely agree, word for word. If you look at my post history you’ll see. I’m extremely dissapointed with what this game has become, PvP-wise mind you, and as such, I’ll always be vocal about it.
The massive power creep we keep getting patch after patch is a testament of what you just said. Supposedly skill-shots don’t have any wheight on them anymore, dodge stopped being a strategic move a long time ago, it’s now more of a side defense skill among the uncountable defensive mechanisms and skills that have been introduced. Many of such skills function with a dual offensive/defensive purpose with other effects on low CDs, it just makes very little sense. A healthy risk-reward ratio doesn’t exist anymore, look at the meta specs, all of them supposedly glass cannons, without the glass, a friken mess. The combat became either a spammy mess or so intrinsically and mindlessly complex that it took away most of the fun it had.
