I switched mug off. Air and fire sgill still on dp. Tested on dummies. (It’s the mug.)-> only with auto attack on.

Have to test the timing again, but out of 5 tries I got revealed 5 times with cnd+mug.

I didn’t get revealed on dummies with mug off. Where is this Thief bugs collection thread? I think it’s already in there.

Switched off auto attack and did not get revealed with mug and sigills.

As I got into pvp hot join helped me. Just for learning basic stuff like maps and fighting for points.

I think the “learn,play,ranked” was a good step forward for new players.

There are many things missing, without question.

Anybody seen a tutorial? (Don’t answer)

What about to have more than one queue and apply Matchmaking on each queue?

Ratinig 1 – 2000 go to queue 1
Rating 2001 – 3500 go to queue 2
Rating 3501 – 5000 go to queue 3

So the majority people at queue 1 dont need to wait long and are garanted not facing queue 3

That’s a task it’s really worth thinking off.

You see different groups of people complaining. First – the top players. Second – the perma stomped players.

The solution is to save them from each other. Leagues or quees may be a good idea.

GW2 is good promoted right now. There are a lot of new players. Also the complete solo q players are sometimes joined against old team q players. Guys, I don’t understand especially the better players not realising that there has always been a huge pool of “bad” players. These are the players who don’t take it too serious. That’s ok and they should not face 500 : 0 defeats. The skill difference can be so huge an influence the outcome of a game so much.

So what kind of data is there to start a selection in groups?

The old top 1000 list.
The old mmr.
Rank
Games played
Loose / win ratio
maybe more

Suggestion:
Put everyone who played more than maybe 200 games and has been in Top 1000 once in category 1 player group.
Put everyone who is level 80, reached MMR better 90 % in category 2
Maybe a 3rd category like under 200 games but above 70 %.
4th category – all beginners

Does that make sense?

Thank you for the replies. Meanwhile I had courtyard 4 times. With S/D meta, sticking to your support, reflecting rangers it went all good.

Facing premades is auto loss, as you say.

Some quality feedback:
Played games yesterday: 11
Prime time.
All ranked arena. All solo q’d.
From the 22 parties matchmaking did:
professions
1 triple
3 double
Fine for me.
Unbalanced games because of players around 50 %. Good games that made fun about the other 50 %.
4 v 5. None.
Possible abuse of system. 50 times. The last one to push the ready button doesn’t push it. If it’s abuse it will stop as soon as dishonered is switched on. If it’s a bug, you should look at it. My bet – abuse.
DCs – none
It feels a bit like the old solo Q.
Did around 20 matches on my thief, the profession mmr seems to join me more often to balanced games.
Over all, I’m very happy you did that changes even when it’s hard at the beginning.

You can spot them in many ways like if they use meta builds. Weapons and titles, too.

You don’t need to hide if you’re a beginner. People who ask to get better are the ones that will get better.

Just play and have fun. Watch some pvp guides on youtube or even the beginner thread above in this forum.

Communication is good. Especially before the game starts. But since “Everyone is so pro” it’s not always a sign.

Evan, the solutions for fixing the main issues for bad pvp games seem to be really great and I think they’ll work. Technically really well thought out. Hard to cheat or abuse.

If you look at the psychologic side the solution isn’t as complete as it is from the technical view.

Why?:
Old system:
Reasons for a bad experience were:
dc – fault on client side – player is sad – blames his internet service provider,ddos, or pc and continues
dc – fault due to gw2 – player blames anet, plays the next game wich is good and everything is ok again
dc – left because of rage quit, I think these people blame everyone, maybe the matchmaking.

New system.
dc – fault on client side – player is sad – blames Anet for a dishonor stack, maybe gets offended if the stack can be seen on him often.
dc – fault due to gw2 – player blames anet, each time more
dc – left because of rage quit – with the new system the rage quitter should learn that even a game that is not won could have been a good game. If he quits he gets punished. That works!

Games are about fun. The only reason you leave a game is if you don’t have fun. You should not give the people a reason to blame especially anet for not having fun.

So technically the step is huge and good. Put some fun on top. I’ve seem some suggestions in the thread. Get psychological as good as in game design.

-New players “hopefully” find the button “practice”.
- If population is not enough to give you good rated games, you can go unrated and just play.

It’s already severe, if you leave 3 times in one day you get banned from structured PvP for 3 days.

Also, the servers are claimed to have instability issues, I’ve disconnected once in the past week, but that was out of like 50 games.

I’m not sure if that’s counted to me being dishonorable and it’d be kittened up if you got dishonorables off of server instability causing you to dc out, which leads to you being unable to pvp.

If your losing games, the problem for sure isn’t people ragequitting, its the matchmaking. I’ve played 16 or 17 games 2 days ago, all of them legit. However I lost ALL 16 or 17 of them and the only reason there can be is that matchmaking system is terrible.

OR nobody playing PvP except really good players which causes me to lose all 16 or 17 of them.

I’d really like to believe theres a lot of people in GW2 playing PvP, but if I’m losing 16 or 17 games in a row… By sucking… Even though I have 3k tpvp games under my belt which means I’m pretty much a veteran. Thus, losing even though I have good standing and know what kitten to do, losing because other players are just far more dominate, than this game has no future because I’m sure the majority population that has zero games, or under 100 tpvp games played will likely perform worse than me, and if I cant win a game, they wont be able too either. Not with the population so small I’m pitted against superior players and/ or terrible matchmaking not giving me a breather and win a game for once.

3 times in one day you get banned from structured PvP for 3 days.
If you think about bad internet connections and the game being unstable sometimes, that is easy to get.

The matchmaking is the real fun killer. It leeds people to quit or go afk.
It’s not enough to only use mmr for matchmaking. New players should be saved from playing with veterans and the regular player should be saved from playing against top players. To much difference.

Solution: Maybe brackets.

They try doing something like that in the cups. Can’t be wrong to try.

The matchmaking actually works fine. The problem is a lot of you don’t check for your human inability to see the big picture and focus way too much on individual matches that go poorly.

The matchmaking would be fine if…

The population was big enough. If rated matches meant “games with and against ppl within a 100/200 MMR range of your own”.

So, why is it like that?

New players often have a terrible time at the beginning. They join team q to play in a team. Get flamed. They go solo q, Get flamed even more. They open that strange UI to enter hot join. No more flames. They learn basic good and bad stuff. How to win a hot join basically. Mostly useless.
After realising hot join is not fair, they go back to solo q. With a build of a top player they start fighting hot join builds like PU, MM and Turret Engi. Get flamed. But if they made it there, they are immune to flames now. So they realize taking a solo q build is more effective. Even if they stick with the top players build, they have to learn the solo q builds, rotations and ganking options.
They start getting better without winning more then 50%. Maybe team q will be better. You can q up there solo. Like the first game the new player played. So back in team q there is a strange mix of good and bad matches. Solo q builds are often less effective. You face a lot of guild teams and solo – duo q ers there, especially at prime time and weekends. You can have a good time there. Until you face a premade team, or you get a new player.

I would really like to have a system that guides new players and saves them from making mistakes.

Would it be possible for for example for ranks 96%-0% to implement another rule to count a team lvl.

I’d like to see something added that, at the very least, increased the odds new players are grouped together. People have suggested a number of ways this could be done. Does anyone remember the big thread for that?

Anytime a comment was made or evidence was shown of the opposite the Dev stated, he had a generic recant ready.

I disagree with this. We’re dealing with anecdotal and disjointed evidence here, so I tried to explain what could be going on but it involves a bit of guesswork. As a general rule, we should take any comparisons involving screenshots and leaderboard data with a grain of salt because they simply don’t tell the whole story.

By what the Dev said of the MMr and the same ppl of the same skill level are matched up….do u mean i will only ever play the same people over and over and over, because god knows the randomness of pvp, W and L, and Anet only seems to ALLOW a select few to be in top 25 consistently. Or make it above 50% ish.

I’m confused, you seem to be contradicting yourself… are you experiencing random matches, or do you feel matchmaking is preventing you from playing with players outside your skill level? (Is this even something you’d want?)

You are more likely to play with people around your skill level, but it also depends on who is in the queue at the same time you are and how long you’ve been waiting.

MMR to be accurate needs to take into account the individuals contributions to the team as well. Not just as a whole of Win, Loss.

This would be awesome, but would be very hard to get right and would deserve a very large discussion of its own.

As far as I can see your MMR can sink if ppl roflstomp you but if you have a 4on4 group fight your own actions have a weight of 25% of the result. And if your mate is a brainless daily farmer who gives a kitten about teamplay this should effect you? Are you serious?

I think this goes along with what SYPHA.9283 was saying. Does anyone see any low hanging fruit here? It would probably need to be something that would be generic enough to be true for any map and/or gamemode.

Edit: We should totally start a new thread for this.

Think about that please:

Make the PVP UI clear for new players. New Players are always very confused where to klick to join the pvp area for the first games. I see the ones who ask in map chat every day. I talked to some, and it’s the reason they do not know where to go is the UI.

New Player experience? Somebody forgot something, eh? ;-)

Expand top 1000 list. Players, even the ones stuck in mmr > 97 like progression in numbers. How should a one really have fun on a percent number. Guys the game is about fun and your living.

Make Solo q matches that have players that are out of mmr for to much = unranked matches.

Since experience and skill divides players so much, the fun in Solo Q is more a luck based.
No wall of text from me. Just ideas.

- Matchmaking Solo Q
Keep players of near equal mmr together. If the matchmaking process can’t solve that in a given time, mix with players of lower or higher mmr and make the match an unranked match.

- Leaderboard
Show much more then the first 1000. There are more players that like to see where they are and how they move. It’s fun for players to see numbers. The % value does imply that the player is not worth playing pvp, because of not beeing top 1000.

Watching my screensaver flashing to music is more appealing then watching gw2. Sometimes I really don’t know what of both I’m looking at.
Why should anybody watch it?
Even if all of these good suggestions would be in the game. What reason would somebody have to watch it?
For me this is the big point. Popularity needs some factores. First, it has to be enjoyable to look at.

Without wanting to defend Anet. How did they try to raise the pvp player base?

They tried to get pve players to take a look at pvp with the april patch.
They made some tournaments and put cash prices on it.

Two good moves in my opinion.

Unfortunately there are so many other things to do to to make new player have a good time in pvp. They know it. It’s in the forums day by day.

1) no. there are classes (builds) that will do better against others. that’s where the word “rotations” comes from. if you have a gun, go to fight the guy with the knife.
like turret engineer > thief (assuming beginner level)
2) no. depends, you’ll find out that s/d, d/p or s/p are more fun. much higher skill.
3)the worst thing is not the nerf , it’s the bugs (changes) on steal (F1) and other very important class mechanics thiefs used and burnt in there muscle memory.

still thief is a lot of fun in spvp, fastest roamer, kills fast, dies fast

i put an eye on mesmer, too. waiting for anet to fix steal soon

There’s no need to perma stealth in WVW for roaming. You are able to escape every fight with your mobility. A shortbow is a good choice as secondary set.

But if you aren’t playing top 1000 and play solo Q, take it. I do – if i think it fits. You find yourself often as close defender or in other roles a thief isn’t made for. The two guys are really helpful. One uses scorpion wire and the other backstabs I think.
About Dagger Storm, it can be canceld with dodge and you stay with stability. Have fun and don’t care about others calling you noob. There’s no way to avoid that. Want a funny proof? Watch Sensotix latest thief video on youtube. The warrior is calling him noob after he killed him – so funny
