Thank you Arena Net for this amazing expansion! I have found myself immersed in this sense of exploration and just adoration for the beauty of the game. The new maps, and old, are fun to re-explore. I don’t feel like I’m grinding at all and those that do, they do it purposefully. I enjoy gliding around and finding new nooks and crannies in the maps, just like I do when I play core game. There is lore everywhere! The Living Story has surpassed my expectations by far and I’m only in Tarir just now.

The old launcher had caithe (a sylvari, for those who live under a rock, or in Hoelbrak.) They are connected to Mordremoth. Now it’s changed to Rytlock, a charr. Kralkatorrik is the one who made the Brand, which is in Charr lands.
Or something to that extent.
I believe they chose Caithe because she was a Sylvari which was the brand new race to Tyria for Guild Wars 2 and something they were obviously very proud of. I don’t think it’s related to the expansion that they never knew or intended to make at launch. I can see how Kralk would be next logically, but I don’t think that it’s related to the launcher. Rytlock has a lot going on in the story right now so it’s only natural that he’s the face and probably a member of Destiny’s Edge will be on the next one and so on.
It’s not a grind unless you make it into a grind. Play the game and have fun. Your character will progress with or without you putting your nose to the grindstone.
That’s weird, I unlocked it just now upon logging in cuz I got 60 Hero Points from core game. I think unlocking and completing the Elite is very different and I feel that it should take time and dedication to accomplish a complete Elite spec. I have 14 characters and I ain’t scured. =)
Yeah, you can still play as normal. Your level will still be the same as others with HoT but you will miss out on the Masteries and added content in the expansion. PvP has been updated for the core game as well as WvW. A lot of changes will be made to the core game and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the game with or without HoT! I have for 3 years and now it’s even better. =)
I really like that they are using raids as visible map places. I like that the map’s terrain puzzles together with the world of Tyria instead of being some random big spot that has a less immersive marker of what/where it is. I don’t think it means less content in the future. On the contrary, I think it means a more interactive world of physical places. Perhaps even, if later down the line the raids become obsolete (such as killing a dragon for a few years), they can use the maps for other reasons as well.
I understand the reasoning in OP. But I will say that there is a lot more to SAB than just the “nostalgia”. There’s actually a very in depth story to the development of SAB in game. The asura woke up to find it created and there is a presence in it that built it while he was asleep. It took on a life of its own and the job of the players is to find the cause. It’s 8bit because it’s a game in the world of Tyria. I think of it more as a side quest than a homage. =)
As for the preferring to play single player, I commonly play casually. But I’m also in a guild that I can rep when I want to be involved with other players. I go into LFG often to meet people when I feel social. Raids will also be able to be found in LFG, I have no doubt.
It is a multiplayer game, after all. Story content is single player, world content is single player (and world bosses won’t require parties even if they do require other players), and the raids? This is Guild Wars 2. It’s main centerpiece is intended to be guilds. Interactions with guilds, raiding with guilds, progression with guilds. I feel that it’s important to keep in mind that not every game is made for every kind of player, and if an MMO isn’t a fit for someone, they should consider other wonderful games that are. =)
I love SW. I do the events there when I want to be active and watch a movie or something on the side. I chest farm when I’m not really into playing but don’t have anything else to do. It’s a good “Go to” when you’re bored or just want to do something to wind down your mind, wait for something else, ect. Otherwise, when I’m more engaged, I do dungeons, guild missions, RP, PvP, WvW, map completion, leveling. I enjoy maps like SW for their purpose, it feels alive and involved (mostly because of the people that are there to make gold), so sure. Add some more of these, but don’t lose focus on the other playstyles as well. Not everyone plays the whole game. =)
I gotta bump this! Because yes! I have 14 characters and I love them all, especially because I didn’t want to play some as the elite specs and made new ones. I like the image in this post for the Smaller screen. It keeps it simple, encouraging new players to buy more slots but not restricting those that already have too much. The “Order By” is a must! I love you for this design, now I’d love to see it as a reality.
I have this problem too. The custom exchange for gold to gems isn’t working. I mouse over it and it says “Get more funds” which opens the USD to Gems purchasing. I can’t buy anything from the Gem store for now and it’s a shame it happens during the sale.

Mini update, others are having this problem and saying you have to buy at least 400 Gems or it won’t work. Is this working as intended? If so, it’s rather frustrating since I only need 150 more Gems for what I want personally. Lol.
They never said that specializations are going to be at end game or high level. My understanding is that we’ll have a choice at, say, level 10 or a low level. “Do you want to be a ranger or druid?” And that more specializations will be added later as GW2 progresses into other expansions and content updates.
Forgive the comparison, but kinda like WoW where you choose your talent specialization. And they can be switched depending on what you enjoy.
Edit to add: I can see the new player experience where it gives you the access to your weapon abilities and such to say “You have unlocked specializations! Hit H to choose your specialization.”

Hmm your community sounds inspiring, and I’d love to join, but I see you are NA based, whereas I am in the EU (GMT +2). Is there any activity going on during the European evening hours? I’d hate not to be able to join your planned events, cause they start at 4am for me.
Event wise, there really isn’t, sadly to say: most (if not all) of the events we have in the evenings begin from 7PM EST to 10PM EST (all being maybe an hour or two before/after the time posted).
If you want to give us a try still, no worries at all: I will give you a message in-game, and get you caught-up on everything you need to know.
Also to add, you are more than welcome to start up some events of your own. The PvP tends to run late in the night (your morning) aided by some of our oceanic friends.
Have you guys seen the upcoming Feature Pack in September? I’m particularly looking forward to the crafting UI changes and the Megaserver tweaks. Isn’t it awesome that our guilds will have an easier time doing guild missions?

I played GW2 when it first came out and loved the leveling and crafting, but ended up taking a break when I hit end game. The new living story brought me back a few weeks ago and I’m really enjoying some of the changes, so I’d love to find a great guild to try some of the end game features in a learning friendly environment

Since I came back Gw2 3 days ago, I feel sad because the first guild that introduce this game to me 8 months ago are not that active anymore. But still its okay because I’m glad they introduce this game to me and I want to play more with others so I would like to request to join your guild. For every week my regular playing time are about 40 hours to 48 hours and my friend from my first guild recommend this community to me so I’m really hyped to join your community if I have a chance to join.

Scarlet was a villain. She acted like a comic villain. She talked like a comic villain. She was for all intents and purposes, a larger than life character that some people loved for the story and some people hated for the same reasons.
I loved it personally. And I look forward to seeing it improve and develop over time. What some people don’t understand is that if it’s not the game for you, then it’s not. Plain and simple.
