The Tyrian Institute (TI)
One of the few Americans on Gunnar’s Hold (EU)
I figured I would collect the so far TWENTY threads I found on this topic into one giant megathread for easier searching. I myself am affected with this bug and it is annoying. I cannot enter dungeons. My friends list is often messed up, with 1 or 2 people showing as online when I know that 10+ are. Randomly kicked out of parties and dungeons. Suddenly I’m the only person in my guild, cannot use /g. I’m kicked out of parties and can’t use /p and when I’m invited back, I don’t see who’s inviting me back. I’ve sent in tickets, I’ve sent in bug reports and have heard jack skritt about it. I’ve done everything I can think of sans flying to company HQ to breathe down their necks.
It may be that this issue is more complicated than it looks, maybe someone is looking into this bug as we speak. Maybe it’s a complicated fix. Maybe the devs truly don’t give a skritt’s bum about it and we’re bugged forever and ever hallelujah amen. I don’t know. But I want answers. If there are this many people complaining about a bug, something should be done or said. Even if it’s just a “sorry, we don’t know how to fix it”. I don’t want compensation or anything. I just want to be able to play this game sans this game-breaking bug.

far too obvious/great of a solution for them to have ignored. there’s an ulterior motive for the spread out schedule: curb rate of earning loot….in order to stretch out the time required to craft ascended gear/legendaries…..which makes buying gems w/RL money and converting them to gold even more attractive. i also fully expect a stealth nerf to the rate champ bags drop cores/t6 mats as well.
+1 +1 +1 to the moon!
To be honest, I haven’t seen one good upside to the whole Megaserver thing. You’re going to rip apart communities, double waypoint costs, screw people over for the meta event chains that you’re not “synchronizing”, force people to be on at a specific time for a specific boss (not to mention cause some serious upscaling for certain ones, like Golem, when there’s 30+ more people than what we see now), and in one fell swoop completely ruin the economy for gathering materials.
What makes you guys think this is such a great idea?
Also +1 +1 +1 to the moon!
As a Gunnar’s Holder-ite and one of the leaders of the server’s World Tour and Tequatl events…Anet, I am deeply disappointed in this change.
1. It takes a lot more work and some quick thinking to chain the bosses back to back to back. For example: Fire Elemental bugs frequently on GH, ask someone to please unbug it for us while we do Mega Destroyer, but oh no Behe, Taidha and Maw just popped up in the middle of the Mega D pres. Not a problem! Kill Mega D first, then go to Behe first, let Maw sit on the Brogun event, kill Taidha, work your way to Maw, then go do Fire Ele and then from there work your way to Eye or Dwayna or whoever else happens to be up. On a good night we hit 25-30 bosses and 5 or so “bonus champs” in about 6 hours. That’s not only a load of karma and loot for you, but a load of karma and loot for the others following you as well.
2. People are free to drop in and out of World Tour as they please. Naturally the zerg is large at the beginning but as people go to bed, it gets smaller and smaller. With the new Megaserver, that will not happen.
3. The Tour as it is has a fresh, constantly rotating schedule of bosses that changes day to day. Some days we start with Behe, others with Golem, others with Maw. It all depends who is up at the same time and makes the Tour always fun. With the new schedule, we get to see the same few bosses all the time which becomes stale and boring.
4. The twice weekly GH Tequatl kills and the once weekly Wurm attempts are in the garbage now. We’ve only just started gathering the server and being successful every Monday at Teq. People know what to do, how to do it, when to do it and gathering at a time convenient to everyone. Now? We’re going to be getting hundreds of people in the map, who may grief it, who may be rude jerks or just be having a bad day and spread their misery over everyone. In addition, the new times are not convenient to everyone.
5. I like commanding in PvE. I find it fun. I love interacting with the people on TS and in map chat and squad chat. I love the work of figuring out which boss to go to. I love being able to chain bosses boom-boom-boom-boom-boom. I love training new commanders on how to activate events, offering advice, helping them with questions. Buh-bye that for me now…
6. I’m also one of those who enjoys her peace and quiet because I’m “on stage” once or twice a week or helping the other commanders whose turn it is during their night or heck filling in for people who can’t do it because of computer problems or being sick. I enjoy wandering Ashford or Timberline or Snowden or Lornar’s by myself, all peaceful. That’s being taken away from me now as someone upthread said. Our experience of a secluded walk in the woods will be destroyed because someone will be busy flamethrowering the bunnies and deer or being a jerk in map chat.
7. My guild is TINY. If I want to experience Karka Queen I’ll have to join up with a larger guild. I don’t want to join a larger guild. So what do I do? Leech?
8. Gunnar’s Hold has a very large PvE base now because of the Tour, the nightly Temple Runs, Tuomir’s Hide and Seek event, Duke Witherheart’s Rampages and the Tequatl events. Gunnar’s Hold has been my home for about 400 days and over 4k hours of gameplay. With the Megaserver I can’t say “I’m proud to be from Gunnar’s.” I can say “I am now one of the faceless, nameless minions in this big blob of people.” Arenanet. I am not a statistic. I am a person. I am not a metric. I am an individual. I am not a nameless, faceless, walking wallet. I am myself. And I like my home. I like the people I play with every day, I like the people on my server. You’re going to destroy a lot of what makes a server community a server community in the name of…what? Metrics? Numbers? Because we are nameless faceless wallets?
Edit: Also forgot! Some boss events take a LOT longer than 15 minutes to get through all the pres. Good examples are Mega D, Ulgoth and Golem. With a good size zerg, you’re looking at at least 25-35 minutes per event, possibly longer.

I’m doing map completion on a second char. I agree with the repetitiveness of exploration; but it’s easier the 2nd time around as I’ve gone through the areas once already.
Having said that, I disagree it should be account bound and like it to be character bound like it already is. It gives me a sense of “I loved this character enough to travel the entire world of Tyria with him/her, s/he’s earned the right to that gold star”.
Jesus tapdancing Christ on a pogo stick, some of you guys are -violent- in wanting to deal with this hacker. As the NPC says: “More violets I say, less violence!”
What you guys should be doing is wanting to send booze and energy drinks to the people at NCsoft in general. It is going to be a -very- long night for some IT people and they will need the booze and drinks. And cake. Lots of delicious cake.
Apparantly it’s this guy. Something to do with him hating autism (and of course being an attention whore)
How, exactly, do you make the jump from hating autism to deciding to shut down a datacenter? I don’t understand.

You make a good point. Too bad most people are more worried about their own efficiency. I would rather have fun and lose than spend time insulting someone for being a “n00b”.
Agree. I don’t mind playing a dungeon with “noobs” if they tell us they are new to that path. I will do my best to teach. I never scream at or insult people. If you teach someone how to run a dungeon path, then they may be able to teach another person that path too. Being a jerk about it doesn’t help anyone, makes you look bad, makes them feel bad, makes for an uncomfortable dungeon run.
If I want my efficient farming, there’s World Tour for that. The rest of the time I chill out in the world, leveling alts or farting around gathering nodes or the occasional chill dungeon run. It’s a game, after all.
My only concern with the new system is working people who will be excluded because of the rigid schedule. Since my job is remarkably flexible, I’ll be able to hit my favorite bosses, maybe with ease. But others are not so fortunate.
And that’s my concern with the new world boss schedule as well. Someone somewhere will be excluded. I may never see Teq again, someone else may never see Maw again, another person may never see Behe. My boyfriend spent some time this morning trying to make me understand that “the bosses are on a set schedule now, you don’t have to alt-tab to check the API now, you can just see that Behe is up in 2 hours just like it is now”. He doesn’t understand that there will be people who don’t want to stand around and wait at boss spawns, bosses that cannot be killed in the 15 minute time window, the timers are inconvenient to a lot of people and you will no longer be able to have the efficient boss farming a lot of people are accustomed to having. People will be able to troll the events intentionally or activate them for fun, which will rustle a lot of people’s jimmies, which will lead to a toxic game environment. Think QDale champ train haberdashery except now on a global scale.
“YOU IDIOT YOU ACTIVATED FIRE ELE BEFORE THE TRAIN GOT THERE HOW DARE YOU GUYS REPORT HIM NOW HOLY CRAP YOU REJECTS OH MY GOD YOU GUYS SUCK RAGE RAGE RAGE”
Whereas now on World Tour if someone does fire ele? Oh well, catch him later, we can go do 2 other bosses now.
World Tour is my main source of karma and loot and to a lesser extent, income. I don’t want to do fracs for karma, my computer struggles when it encounters a zerg of 40+ people so WvW is right out and frankly standing around at a waypoint waiting for a boss we may or may not be able to kill in a zerg of 100+ within 15 minutes is not my idea of fun. The magic happens in map chat, squad chat, say chat and Teamspeak where we are able to gather together as a community and shoot the breeze. I’m all for adding in new people to my pool of acquaintances but sometimes I just want to do stuff with the people I do know.
I guess my whole point to this post is that without real meaningful consequences we may as well be furniture. Devs please take a page from the way some things in WvW are handled; leaving WvW to the enemies will leave you having to ACTUALLY WORK to regain your ground, and IMO it should be the same in the PvE world. Until it is done in a way that we can and do get hooped for letting things fail, we are no better than bystanders in your game.
In many points I agree with your post BUT what about the timers for the events? What will happen to, say, Harathi Hinterlands at night when no one is on the map and centaurs are taking the entire place over for several hours each night? Will we have to constantly work at clearing the map every day? (Not such a bad thing imo as it would encourage the people in LA to spread out and help defend the map but still). Plenty of people in WvW matchup threads QQ about “nightcapping” and want Anet to stop it. If I’m wandering Tyria I don’t want my access to a SP or POI blocked because a waypoint is contested and there’s a septillion mobs waiting nearby to nom my face off until the others on the server can be bothered enough to go recap the village. Would create even higher demand for certain classes and even lower demand for others, leading to more imbalance and more QQ and on and on.
Elsewhere up thread someone else said that all wps should be contested on a map, which would make it difficult to get around lest you die-unless you’re somehow revived by, I dunno, a wandering band of Priests of Dwayna or medic golems or St. Bernard type Sylvan hounds or members of an Order or Pact who are stationed in an area nearby or so on who patrol loops around certain areas. (Actually the St. Bernard Sylvan Hounds would be quite funny, with casks of omnomberry juice around their necks). I have mixed feelings about all wps contested unless they implement some sort of ressing idea.
In both Black Citadel and the Grove, keep in mind that I am NOWHERE near the Mist Warrior I’m still being beckoned at. Even in the grove, when I am 2 floors below the Mist Warrior, I’m still being hit with the beckoning spam. Make it stop!
It all depends what server you’re on and if you want to make/join a guild. I know some of the lower pop servers tend to be very dead in the lower areas. What server are you on?
Have you gone to Lion’s Arch yet? You’ll be guaranteed to find everyone there and you should ask in chat if you can find a guild. Most PvE guilds will be happy to help new players. WvW is also an option but since you’re only a level 19, enemies will focus you and kill you more. Upscaled players=easy kills=easy loot.
+1 to the TP being FUBAR’d for me since yesterday.
Has to be a Cider problem in my opinion, but as for how or what to do to fix it, no idea so I will wait patiently for the fix.
Honestly if anyone by now has played a few hundred hours in this game can see how grindy GW2 has become, also how much enjoyment has been sucked away due to nerfs and loot limitations, its bad, really bad..
Vayne says have goals, i had goals, i finished it i made 8 professions at 80 fully geared, i’ve played over 3000 hours here too, i never wanted a legendary they are stupid skins aimed at the lowest common denominators to grind on..
My annoyance is the rest of the game is hindered by them, cannot craft anything nice because it needs the same crap legendaries need, so they are just as hard to make, to make anything is painful with the Crap GW2 economy and the Crap loot tables…
Hopping in here. Permit me a little story.
I’m one of those “kids” Vayne tends to like to lambast (I’m a little more than half his age) for wanting stuff now. I play this game with my boyfriend as a way for us to play together while I earn money and prepare to move to the UK to be with him. That is a long term goal to have and one that I WANT to take several years to accomplish as I pay down student loan debt and save for the move and our eventual wedding. My boyfriend is worth waiting for.
The Juggernaut? Not so much. I, too, want to have my Legendary for my warrior in a reasonable (6-9 months) amount of time. I hate paying money for mats and things unless I absolutely have to. Since I don’t want to spend money, the other option is to farm those mats. I, too, have noticed that the drop rate for mats and things has been nerfed into the ground. So I get to stretch my farming another 3-6 months and maybe I’ll get my Juggernaut in a year from now. But I don’t want it a year from now, I want it by September at the latest. So what am I going to do? Will I have to buck up and buy the mats off the TP even though I really don’t want to? Or do I have to scrimp the little IRL money I have, buy gems, convert to gold and just buy Juggernaut outright?
And Juggernaut isn’t even the least of my goals. I want Bifrost and I want double Infinite Light for my guardian and mesmer respectively, as well as full exotics/runes/trinkets/back pieces/stuff for all of my alts. Those are things that I will have to spend a fair bit of time praying that I get the mats for them. But if I can’t farm them easily, I’ll have to spend the gold for them and I don’t want to, except for the runes, the armor and some of the weapons. Period. Plain and simple.
Is it so wrong of me to want to have Juggernaut to start with by September, getting all the mats myself, spending when absolutely necessary and the other weapons over time? No, it isn’t. But when the avenues that I take to get those weapons are being shut down on a regular basis, can’t you see why I’m a little angry?
Edit: Also, some of the mats you CAN’T farm past a certain level. The silver doubloons for Juggernaut are only found on level 20-30 chars. So those I’ll need to buy. The lodestones and such I want to farm…but can’t as my spots are nerfed. So what can I do?
(edited by Kyven.7514)
@Kyven
Why is your boyfriend worth waiting for and not a Juggernaut/infinite lights/etc?
Because this is only a game. And games are temporary. In about 6-7 years (or hell 6-9 months) there will be new shinies that people will go after. Relationships, on the other hand, are permanent.
Of course it’s not wrong to want Juggernaut by September. But whether this is wrong or not isn’t really the point. The point is, the game doesn’t exist for you or any one person alone. Anet, like all companies, is a business, and all businesses need to make money to exist and pay staff. So the question becomes, what does the ability for you personally to get the Juggernaut by September do to the game as a whole?
The game itself has a great deal of potential and some glaring flaws. Some of the flaws probably didn’t show up till it launched and people ran through it. That means that Anet has been in damage control mode pretty much since launch. That also means that they need to find ways to keep people in game while they fix these things.
snip
There is nothing wrong with wanting a legendary weapon in six months or nine months or a year. But that has nothing to do with the game, only what you want.
I can appreciate that they are a business and want people to enjoy the game as much as possible/make goals as not as easy to get to make sure people play the game longer. Nor am I one of those who are frothing at the mouth and shrieking “ANET SUCKKKKKS” whenever something happens that I don’t like. I’m a patient woman. I can take my time getting what I want.
But at the same time…a friend of mine got her Bifrost the same way I want to get my Juggernaut. She played the game, collecting the dust and mats and buying what she could when she could. She farmed in spots, grinded out her last 40 Skill points in one night, a friend of hers got lucky in the forge and gave her The Legend. In 8 months, she got her legendary. But that was BEFORE the farming nerfs and other stealthy, sneaky things that Anet have done to prolong the experience of getting a legendary. Look at the forums. There are a lot of angry threads about the sneaky, underhanded, let’s-just-nerf-this-and-hope-the-players-don’t-notice stealth nerfs to popular farms. Orr is unpopulated and has been since the April patch that killed a lot of it. Even I’ve noticed some of my favorite spots in Frostgorge have had their loot changed. And we are NOT told about it, we’re supposed to guess.
So now I’m supposed to simply kick back, relax, play the game and explore the world while hoping that I get enough of the mats I want magically falls into my lap? I have been playing the game 3 months and I have only 20 Elaborate totems that I picked up myself. I have 43 Crystalline dust because my boyfriend gave me half of that. I have similar amounts of the other mats with little to no hope that I can get more because I don’t want to buy them off the TP. And yet Vayne here has 3000 hours over how many months with his Legendary already and my friend has her Bifrost. I want what they spent hours and hours of their time in about the same amount of time that they got it.
Vayne: you’re absolutely right. I agree with and respect your opinion on everything you said. Me having or not having Juggernaut and/or Bifrost and/or the double Infinite Light makes zero difference in the grand scheme of the game. Anet made a game for everyone. A game I enjoy. A game you enjoy. A game lots of us enjoy. I still enjoy this game as much every time I play as I did when I first installed it. It just gets me angry that if I want to spend some time farming on the one day of the week I do farm, my spots get nerfed into the ground. So what do people like me, who want to acquire a legendary by themselves with little to no TP buying, do if we can’t get the stuff we need?
Vayne: inb4 you say “then don’t farm hahaha”. Here’s the thing: I don’t make farming the end all be all of my play time. I pick ONE day out of the week and I go off in search of stuff to kill for mats. The other days I’m leveling alts, exploring the world, crafting items, reading the forums and so on. It’s disheartening to see a noticeable trend downwards in the amount of mats and stuff I used to get while Anet doesn’t tell us what they do.
Thanks guys. I am in the shiverbluff(???) server. Something like that. Said it was high pop.
Also, I am part of a guild already. They are great guys, and they do a lot of stuff. No doubt about that. But they are focused on the higher end stuff. I don’t want to ask them to come down to the starting area so they can kill slugs for 400xp. Its a waste of time for them and wouldn’t make me feel good asking.
Sucks to hear about Sylvari being low pop areas. I chose them because they looked cool, heh. And no, I haven’t been to lions arch. I frankly don’t even know how to get there, nor what I would do if I did. I still have to finish my solo missions first anyways. Going to have to go to Metrica Province and do the heart missions over there to progress.
I went into WvW, but was isntantly overwhelmed. Plus like someone said, upscaled people probably just get schooled anyways.
Far Shiverpeaks? So EU? Hit me up in game tomorrow, I can always take my low level alts around the map by guesting, I don’t mind at all.
As a matter of fact, I have a level 20 sylvari who could do with some levels.
So my bf and I are leveling Asura together and their “thing” is to have miniatures following them around like a pet (we call them “assistants”). There’s one problem-we’d like to be able to name them. We have names for them but why can’t we show them off to the world like Rangers can with their pets?
The second thing I’d like would be animations when you enter combat (even if they don’t do any damage) because it gets a little annoying to see my golem standing around like a dope while I’m shooting at enemies and BF’s Skritt has a sword that could be put to better use. If they would only at least try to help without any damage, then I’d be happier.
My boyfriend linked me to this forum paste and told me to check my email…turned out I had gotten this email too. Gave me a chuckle!
The imgur image below (pulled from a thread on reddit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/293spr/been_playing_the_game_since_beta_today_anet/) shows the email for those who are curious.
No, you’re not. Anet should just let everyone get everything at their own time table, you could all leave the game and we can all find another one, because that’s what would end up happening.
For everyone person who complains on these forums, there are probably a bunch more who are not complaining because they’re new and don’t know this stuff is nerfed.
Anet doesn’t have hundreds of options. They can’t “fix” the game in a month or two. So these things WILL happen, and some people WILL leave. Whether you’re one of them or not is completely up to you.
But Anet is doing what they have to do for the good of the game, even if what that is kitten es off some people. You either can deal with it or you can’t. It won’t change what they’re going to do, because they need to keep the game going for the people who are enjoying it and playing it for more than just a legendary.
The new people will learn eventually that once they want a legendary or a hard to get exotic and want to farm for it, they won’t be able to and they will join the choir and scream about farming spots getting nerfed, too.
I know that they can’t fix the game in a month; did I say I wanted them to magically pull a bug free version from their behinds RIGHT NOW? Nope. I want to stick with this game and see what they have to offer through the rest of the summer, the fall, the winter and next spring. I have no issues with that.
Besides, I’m not playing for just the legendary. I play it because playing games with my boyfriend is fun. I play it because I’m an altoholic and want to play all the classes and experience all the things with each fresh new char. I play it because wandering the world and experiencing the beauty of Tyria is rewarding. I play it because kicking bums in wwv is satisfying.
What I don’t like is the attitude you have that because we are not in our 50’s and not had the same upbringing and life experiences as you that suddenly all us twenty and thirty somethings are impatient and expect to be given everything on a silver platter and don’t appreciate anything once we get it; just like your son. I expect nothing to be served up when I want it how I want it, including the legendary. I can wait for it. But would you agree that 6 to 9 months for a legendary is a decent amount of time to expect one? I’m going to assume that you’ve been playing since August, which was 10 months ago. You have your Legendary and from what I read, got it in about the same time as I want mine in the same method I want to get mine: by wandering the world, collecting mats, hoping for lucky drops, so on. So for you to sit here and tell me “Kyven, you are not patient enough for a legendary” is patronizing indeed. For that, you can go take a very long walk off a very short pier.
