I also think people are hoarding hardened leather now, maybe because they don’t like the price it sells for.
Doubtful. The majority of players are, most likely, finally proceeding with crafting projects they have had to put off due to the ridiculous price, whilst also refurbishing their personal stock (not ‘hoarding’). Personally, I am proceeding with a huge guild hall decoration project I have wanted (requires 720 T6 leather to complete), donating T6 leather to my guild bank for those in my guild who are FTP, do not have LS3.4, etc to share the relief and planning on crafting my 7th ascended armor set.
Please note though, guys … even with the price relief we’ve had, the pricing of T6 leather is still out of balance with the rest of the T6 mats. While it is been great to see so many T6 sections in my bags, the price is still too high, comparatively.
It’s nice to see a solution produced to the leather crisis. Albeit not the greatest solution because not everyone has access to it (locked behind a paywall [LS3.4]) but it’s a start. I do think I see why it is the farm the way it is. Had this not been behind a paywall and in a difficult area, the massive amount of people doing it, including bots, would have flooded the market and made it as worthless as gossamer. We have found some relief with this update, and that is fantastic! However we need to continue to get the word out about it rather than leaving it as a seemingly inconsequential and subtle change in the patch notes. Otherwise the market will not fluctuate properly and the leather prices will rise YET AGAIN when people get tired of zerging up and down the hill in Lake Doric. We all have other stuff we want to do, but we can’t do the Lake Doric leather farm forever to maintain leather prices at its current rate (Unrefined: 23s77c/Refined: 80s50c). I usually find Orichalcum as a good base value to judge off of due to the fixed availability and demand:usage ratio. Leather still needs to continue to drop, because as of the time of me typing this, the price of refined leather has dropped by a little less than 25%.
So, let’s compare:
Bolt of Gossamer: (1s13c)
Orichalcum Ingot: (5s1c)
Hardened Leather Square: (80s59c)One of these things is not like the other, take a quick guess.
(and if you guessed either Gossamer or Orichalcum, you guessed wrong.)
I do grasp that Lake Doric was a prime place to implement the change and increase the leather salvage rates at. However I fear that this may not be enough.
I think it’s safe to say that people will grow tired of the leather farm, and the lack of progress we’ve seen so far to the leather prices may become discouraging. I do feel like something more needs to happen elsewhere, whether it just be to increase salvage rates from other specific items in areas that require you to be moving and not afk.
Like maybe any items specifically found in Dragon Stand perhaps, could also encourage proper map-wide meta progress. I don’t know if there many “Dragon Stand only” or “Maguuma only” drops, however another minor tweak might be something Anet could look at? I mean, it would also be behind a paywall, which could help keep things balanced, but at least it’s not as obscure as an LS episode. How long will people continue to do these leather runs? Are they only doing them because prices peaked over 1g a piece of refined leather? Will people only do the runs when leather prices peak again? At what point does leather reach it’s lowest and begin to skyrocket again?
Stay tuned!
These are all valid points and questions for us to keep in mind and try to keep in Anet’s mind (if it isn’t there already), as the honeymoon of the new drop rate and salvage rate for Bloodstone-Warped Hides wears off.
Anet finally made good on their promise to provide a leather farm in Lake Doric. That is awesome! They said they would when they blocked the ability to do AB Multimap. The price relief in the TP is already clearly apparent. However, let’s not lose sight of the overall issue that is still at hand: the decreased availability of leather game wide and the continued increased demand in crafting. This effects all levels of leather. We just notice it the most in T6.
T6 mats are dropped mostly in the higher end zones, afaik, that includes Orr, SW, Dry Top, etc. Those areas not locked behind a paywall. Before HoT, that’s where we got those mats, primarily. So now what? Every area except for the Lake Doric leather farm still has the same drop rate. The required amount of leather is still the same. Is the answer, “Let everyone who does not have access to LS3.4 just buy it from those of us who do? Sucks to be you?” I don’t think so, guys. While the present relief is like drought relief in one state and that state can now provide more produce for the other states, the other states still in a drought are accustomed to providing for themselves but are forced to buy instead.
Anet, thank you for addressing the issue with Lake Doric and making it the “Leather Farm” I believe you originally intended it to be. But your work regarding leather is not yet done. Keep up the good work.
Jump on your favorite farming character, put on some farming music and enjoy the loot! This may be the simple tweak we’ve been asking for, folks!
Actually, no, we never asked for this. It would be better if they fixed h.leather salvage rates from salvaging random drops, not bloodstone hides. Or downed leather in patches from 10 to 5.
All other T6 mats for crafting can be gained by just playing the game. But now with h.leather we have to farm in specifically. To make the matter worse, the farm is locked behind a paywall of LS3 Ep4 (considered by a lot of players the worst map of a game and usually not worth buying).
So, again, trying to cure a symptom, not a problem.Completely agree. And soon Lake Doric will have the same problem as other HoT maps: if you want to do the “meta” (which in Lake Doric will be leather farm), there will be the successful map that you can’t get in and the unsuccessful maps. Terrible game design.
Or you can create your own squad and use the LFG to make your map a successful one.
Or you can try – don’t say it is a certainty that you can get enough people to make ANY secondary map successful. That is simply false as I have witnessed time and time again.
We’ve done it with about 10 people so you don’t need that many. I’ve witnessed it time and time succeeding.
It would be nice to see LFGs successfully running rather than the hopes of getting onto a map.
I don’t like centaurleather, it’s just cheap mass produced leather. Dolyak leather is all the craze this year.
Yes, but Dolyak leather is primarily imported and you have deal with world versus world competitive pricing.
The reality though is that I was able to gear up three characters with ascended stuff in those 4½ months of playing the game. 2 x light and 1 x medium armor. One Zojja’s medium armor set is about 510 gold.
I don’t find it unreasonable to pay 510 gold to craft a full medium ascended armor set.
<snip>
That is my current stance towards leather prices, after reflecting on my own experience as a player with light/medium armor classes and playing since February.
That’s great that you are so philosophical about leather. But the difference between crafting a medium set vs a light or heavy set might not make others so philosophical – especially if they want to craft a medium and wonder why it should cost more.
A lot of people argue that it doesn’t matter that leather costs so much more than other materials. But it is unfair to people who have medium armor characters that their armor costs more than those with light or heavy armor. I know this has actually affected what character class people create or choose to play as their main, which is a shame.
Don’t forget about the cost to actually leveling leathercrafting.
Doing the farm again was a lot of fun, but there were so many people, one half could have switched to another instance. Even with high mobility, it was difficult to land hits. My guess is that the drop rate will be higher when the zerg size will be reasonable. Often, I couldn’t tag a pony, and still got those 26 leather pieces in 15 minutes.
A couple of suggestions for farming Lake Doric leather farm:
- Pick a class that has a good, easy cast aoe like guardian (‘lootstick’), engineer (flamethrower), thief (shortbow #1), elementalist (staff air #1) if you have those classes.
- Turn ON autotargetting. This will help you with any class, as well.
I probably won’t farm there though. I rarely need hardened leather, and soon it will be so cheap that I’ll rather buy it. That farm requires constant attention, you can’t even park somewhere and get a drink from the fridge. It becomes stressful quickly.
While you cannot stop and park during the circuit, there is a clear area that most zergs start/stop at. The circuit only take a few minutes so you would not have to wait long to get back into it. Besides, farming means constant attention. That is what it means to farm. But you do have areas to stop. Worst that happens, you die and run back … meh. Armor repair is cheap
Now, I wonder how it works with hoarded Bloodstone Hides. There are people who hoarded hundreds or thousands of those hides because they were too lazy to open that many manually, and don’t really need the stuff. Which drop rate will it be when they open them now? The old 8% or the new 50%? Is the content of bags calculated when you loot them, or when you open them?
Not having any hoarded hides, my guess would be that the current salvage rate applies.
All other T6 mats for crafting can be gained by just playing the game. But now with h.leather we have to farm in specifically. To make the matter worse, the farm is locked behind a paywall of LS3 Ep4 (considered by a lot of players the worst map of a game and usually not worth buying).
So, again, trying to cure a symptom, not a problem.
You are very correct, something I lost sight of initially out of the relief of having all the T6 leather in my bags. But you are correct. If you don’t have HoT, you are at the mercy of the TP, still. Even with the cheaper prices, that’s not the answer – just buy it. Regarding the centaur leather farm, it is almost as if someone in Anet said “Hmm, let’s take a look at the leather drops there. Oh! It’s not dropping a significantly increased amount of leather like it is supposed to as the promised ‘leather farm’ placed in lieu of AB multi map. Let’s fix that.” So, while we appreciate the steps taken to fix the Lake Doric leather farm (and we do), please Anet do not exclude so many others of your customers by locking leather “behind a paywall”. Fix it, we are tired of bandaids. Meanwhile, I’ve created a donation slot in my guild bank for T6 leather just for guildies who do not have HoT, to aid those who are needy and struggling to craft their gear.
I just salvaged 425 hides and got 223 hardened leather sections (and 219 T5 sections). Plus about 42 sections from salvaging the random drops.
Jump on your favorite farming character, put on some farming music and enjoy the loot! This may be the simple tweak we’ve been asking for, folks!
Yes!! Hopefully they will not decrease the drops in the future. A guildie just salvaged 75 Bloodstone Warped Hides and got 43 hardened leather sections! In a zerg, it took little time to acquire the 75 hides.
I’d say before even adding nodes to the world.
Revert some of the recipe changes, reduce/change other (like Legendary insignia[gossamar/gold ingot/silver ingot could be used here to give it a market too])
Make those changes and see if the source acquisition methods need to be changed. If so try organically fixing it by increasing the chance to yield and yield amount from salvaging first then if all else fails add nodes as a last resort.
Agreed. It would only take a few tweaks, e.g., put the conversion back to 2 per instead of 3 per (for T6, e.g.) and slightly increase the drops. That would probably be enough to get things in shape with the rest of the materials.
Patches should be crafted with Leather OR Cloth.
This would allow them to reach equilibrium with each other (i.e. Leather prices would decline a bit and Cloth prices would rise a bit until they are about equal, excluding any additional demand differences).
Having patches require both materials simply exacerbated the demand issue that the reduced supply of leather caused while depressing the cloth market (since the bottleneck on crafting is the leather supply).
This is probably the simplest and most elegant solution. They should make each recipe for one patch, not 5.
Good suggestions! Not a lot is needed to bring leather back into balance. We are not asking for all the changes to be undone, as leather did, in fact, need to be incorporated more into crafting. However, one or two small tweaks should bring leather back to where it should be in relation to the rest of the crafting mats.
That’s all SW ever really was. A raid playing Nascar while exploiting the people that kept the keeps alive.
No, you are mistaken. SW used to be about map-wide teamwork and cooperation. People helped each other, people worked together. The pride and joy I used to see in chat when struggles became successes …. it was awesome!
Again … the solutions being put forth are bandaids. Grind to buy. No, just no. While it is good to know how to make money, as we all need it in the game, I do not truly believe it is Anet’s intention for the primary focus of the game to be ‘grind X content over and over again in order to be able to afford to purchase a material since the drop rate is pathetic’. Truly, I don’t. They put too much work and effort to give us a beautiful game that goes beyond farming SW, farming lvl 40 Fractal over and over again, etc.
As far as RIBA goes, LOL. I used to play a lot in SW, well over 300k worth of crests. But the last time I did and a well-known SW guild was doing RIBA what I saw was this: A few players not in the raid group who didn’t know what was going on barely kept the keeps from being lost while everyone else followed the commander, tagged mobs and got credit for all the keeps whilst doing next to nothing for the wins. When I questioned in raid chat if that is what was happening, I was unanimously told yes. That was the last time I did RIBA. My heart was broken. I loved SW. Talk about an exploit. The players in the raid group were exploiting the other people. No thanks.
If you decide to sell everything you lose more because of taxes, but it’s pointless to keep the T3-T4 mats because you can’t use them for anything.
T3, T4 mats are needed in crafting ascended components, i.e., Damask, Elonian Leather, Spiritwood, Deldrimoor Steel. If you don’t want these components, you can sell them.
Having patches require both materials simply exacerbated the demand issue that the reduced supply of leather caused while depressing the cloth market (since the bottleneck on crafting is the leather supply).
While the value of silk and gossamer is pathetic.
I won’t really compare this to paying for ascended armor though. I only had to pay the price for the armor once. It will last forever, I don’t have to pay gold to maintain it. the 510 gold were a one time fee. If they increased the fees for using waypoints though, that would really hurt everybody at all levels and times. Armor is not a consumable good, it should be expensive, even houses are not forever, that armor is.
As GW2s is a Living World, that means builds are forever changing. With that, your armor will change if you want to play to the best of your ability or, perhaps, if you want to try another playstyle. Additionally, you are still missing the point. People should not have to depend on the botters or the extreme hardcore farmers to acquire one category of material. If some want to just buy it, great. That option is there for them. But “grind it to buy it” for a crafting mat?! That is not acceptable. Unfortunately, too many people are just accepting it. Therefore, it will go unchanged. That is what is being accepted as ‘status quo’ when people say/infer “just buy it”. I appreciate that newer players who were not playing 2 years ago have not the opportunity to compare now and then, regarding the leather economy, but do not dismiss those who came before you.
T6 mat comparison cost (as of 1 min ago):
- Gossamer Bolt … 1s 23c
- Orichalcum Ingot … 4s 60c
- Ancient Wood Plank … 19s 37c
- Cured Hardened Leather … 1g 9s 98c
- Gossamer Patch … 2g 45s 93c (each patch contains (2) T6 Leather basically and is needed to craft EXOTIC insignias)
Now, let’s compare the ratios of T5 mats:
- Silk Bolt … 1s 49c
- Mithril Ingot … 1s 18c
- Elder Wood Plank … 6s 85c
- Cured Thick Leather … 9s 69c
So, when you look at the overall balance of each tier … hmm … one of these things is not like the other.
And to be honest, those who remember the old prices will sound like old people who will always remind you how cheap stuff was when they were young, forgetting that prices and incomes have risen in the last 30 years.
Would I like to have cheaper stuff? Sure I do, I always vote for cheaper stuff ^^
I appreciate your point of view, however I am saddened by your ignorance of the situation. This is not about old ways vs modern ways. This is about an economy which is currently broken regarding leather. If you suddenly woke up one day and gas was $10/gal, you would of course think that was normal. Those of us who have been awake longer than you could tell you that price was not normal and why. That is the situation with the leather.
There is a lot of wealth in the accounts, I think it’s just that people make different choices.
This comment is another worn out statement used to deflect from the true issue and goes right back to … “grind gold to buy it”. No. Just no.
That being said, congratulations on your ascended gear and welcome to GW2. I hope you enjoy the game as much as many of us do. It is, truly, a wonderful game. If it were not, I wouldn’t give a kitten about leather prices.
Something has to be done, the demand for it is good, but the supply is waaaaaaay too low. Either increase the drops or decrease the required amount needed for crafting conversions. Anet doesn’t need to undo what they did, just tweak it to balance it out.
Agreed. The original idea of reworking the leather was good. The formula didn’t quite work out. It needs more tweaking. Simply returning the refining to what it was would most likely balance things better than what it was and is, for instance. Adding the crafting patch to nearly every leather/tailor recipe is a lot of leather there. Then increasing the number of squares needed to convert into one piece. Ouch. But wait, there’s more …. let’s also reduce the drops. Too much deficit. Many people didn’t feel it at first, they had plenty of supply. But now nearly 2 years into this and they are feeling it and it shows.
Do Silverwastes for an hour, get 35g, buy leather.
There are ways to farm gold to buy leather, even Lake Doric gives you 15-20g/h worth of leather if you have a decent comm and know how to evade DR.
The crisis, isn’t even a crisis.
I am assuming that you are assuming everyone sells their mats, etc from SW, to get said 35g? If so, don’t assume. I, like many others, keep all their mats and use them (or stores them for future use). Many people depend on mat drops and not purchasing from others. You are missing the entire point. Leather is way out of whack price-wise with the rest of T6 materials and this is primarily because of the adjustments made in the HoT update nearly 2 years ago.
I know … some of you are tired of this topic while others are tired of nothing being done about it. But when will Anet fix the math they so horribly messed up? Get beyond afk farmers this, afk farmers that. Those are all just symptoms of what is wrong.
Back when HoT dropped, Anet adjusted the leather usage:
1. “To sync armor crafting with weapon crafting, and to help maintain the value of leather, masterwork, rare, and exotic inscriptions will now be crafted with patches made from leather and cloth.
To account for the added leather cost, the amount of cloth required to make an insignia is reduced.”
2. “Some minor tweaks have been made to salvage tables to normalize output across all levels, and a small reduction has been made on tier 5 metal, leather, and wood, as well as a reduction on tier 6 leather and cloth.”
3. “Refining thick leather now results in 4 thick leather sections instead of 3.”
4. “Refining hardened leather now results in 3 hardened leather sections instead of 2.”
Meanwhile, the price of leather skyrocketed. Yes, something did need to be done about leather. It was underused and had no value, essentially. But, someone forgot to “carry the 1” when they did the math and brought these new changes. As we, the community, complained, Anet responded with (and I can’t find the link with the posting atm) ‘we want the hoarders to sell’. Well, guess what … hoarders are hoarders for a reason. Hoarders are hoarders, sellers are sellers. While not mutually exclusive, they are two different groups of people. Besides, why push the hoarders to sell when they didn’t actually create the problem. This problem doesn’t exist with other mats that are being hoarded. Just leather.
New players cannot afford to craft exotic level 80 gear. It wasn’t that long ago that a new, or newish level 80 player could craft their own exotics not long after leveling. It is so expensive now to craft simple, exotic level 80 gear, it is discouraging for new players. I am not even touching on the cost of leveling leathercrafting … yeah, right. Again, it is discouraging for a newer player, or anyone who has not yet leveled their leatherworking.
Ok, do events, farm for the mats, you say. Well, yes. That is, of course, one way we get mats. Although, the Dragon Stand I just completed (with full participation) netting me with a whooping 0 harden leather squares doesn’t exactly encourage me. But hey, I can always go through the added expensive and convert my T5 leather to T6 (when I get enough of it). Meanwhile, worthless Mithril and Silk overflow my personal bank. My point is, there are ways of getting T6 mats, this I know, but the drop rate is horrible while the requirements for it are at the opposite end of the spectrum. There is no balance. It’s not even close. Playing this game should not be focused primarily around farming a mat. If so, change the name to Farm Wars lol.
Please, for the love of all that is holy, quaggen or whatever … please readjust the original ‘tweaks’ made with the HoT update. We forgive you, if you fix this. One piece of T6 leather selling for 1g18s yesterday! When a plank of ancient wood was 18s … that’s … that’s … unforgivable.
Note: The prices jumped when the AB meta was closed down and the Lake Doric engi farm (where not everyone was afk, you just assumed they were) was effectively shut down. Coincidence or causality … you decide.

Ditto. Very high ping (which I never have), then dc’d, then takes quite a bit to get back into game. Some guildies, but not all, are having the same issue.
ANet twitter confirmed it’s a DDoS attack. Level 3 for most of the US is down right now so it’s not just NCSoft being targeted.
Too bad they can’t be bothered to pass the info on here.
Yep – saw the Twitter after I posted (should have checked that first lol )
The ongoing connection issues are due to a DDOS attack. We apologize for the inconvenience and the team is working towards a solution. ~MJK
I have dc’d 6x’s trying to complete Acrana Obscura. I am done for the night. IMO, Anet may want to take the servers down while fixing the problem. From my personal experience, those of guildies and what I see in the forums, there is no or little point in getting into instances, metas, etc as you will get dc’d during the course. I had multiple dc’s yesterday during about an hour period, then none after that. Tonight is far worse and I rarely, rarely have an issue so yesterday’s was odd as well.
I know Anet is working hard and will get it fixed, they do a great job.
Have a good night/day everyone =^.^=
Personally, I do meta events as well as other events all the time. I do Dragon Stand at least 4xs a day, for example. My MF is 232 (unbuffed) after 20 months of playing the game. After one DS, my average for T6 leather 3 pieces. I salvage everything. I have completed Agent of Entropy 614 times . Aside from farming all day to get multiple stacks of T5 leather for the toilet, what else is there to do for T6 leather?
What kind of salvage kit do you use? Because, none of what else you mention in that paragraph matters one lick for your ability to get t6 leather from salvage. Only the “chance of rarer materials” given by the kit you use does.
~EW
Silver-Fed-Salvag-o-matic and the Masters Kit before that.
“8. T6 leather.. When can we expect a fix?
Historically we’ve done quite a few tweaks to supply when prices get outside the range we intended. But we’re going to hold off on that for a while. There’s actually a ton of supply of leather and flax. But apparently the trading price, while expensive, is not enough to get people to sell what they’re sitting on, or to farm them for profit. People have more wealth than they used to and it’s changing behavior. We want to give the market time to balance itself."
(souce: Dulfy.net)
Sooo, Anet acknowledges that T6 leather is expensive but wants ppl to sell theirs and more ppl to farm it? They decreased the drop rate last October, increased its required amount to convert it, increased the required amount in recipes and added it to each ascended insignia. I am speechless.
Read the quote again.
- “There’s actually a ton of supply of leather and flax. "
- “the trading price, while expensive, is not enough
- to get people to sell what they’re sitting on,
- or to farm them for profit. "
- “People have more wealth than they used to and it’s changing behavior. "
People are willing to pay the premium for leather rather than getting it themselves. The market is balanced; it’s the psychology that’s changed because of all the new ways to increase one’s wealth. This is one of the side effects of AB/ML: people earn a lot of generic loot, which they sell and end up with plenty of coin — that makes them willing to pay more for mats rather than doing anything to gather those mats from outside the TP.
Accordingly, it’s tricky to change the sources or sinks, because it’s unclear how the market would react.
I appreciate your comments and while I agree that some people would rather buy from the TP, I don’t feel that that is the problem here. You will always have ppl buying from the TP in games. Sellers want that. Without that there would be no economy. Back in the 10/23/15 patch, they adjusted the T6 leather:
Some minor tweaks have been made to salvage tables to normalize output across all levels, and a small reduction has been made on tier 5 metal, leather, and wood, as well as a reduction on tier 6 leather and cloth.
Refining thick leather now results in 4 thick leather sections instead of 3.
Refining hardened leather now results in 3 hardened leather sections instead of 2.

They have had nearly a year for the “market to balance itself” and it has not, it continues to get worse. The math is broken. They took a machete on 10/23/15 when a scalpel would have sufficed. Of course now, if you want ascended gear, you can farm raids or fractals instead. Perhaps this is another way that Anet is ‘guiding’ the players to play those areas more? (insert sarcastic voice).

In WvW, Ranger may be a devastating class, but in organized PvE content, it is non-existent. This is extremely sad. I have even been told by several life -long GW/GW2 players that the ranger class is a “support class and not a dps class”. And yes, this is playing it properly as Anet intended, i.e., mixing bow and melee. I weep for my rangers. I play them in world content so that I can enjoy them, then get on my ele, engi or rev for organized content … sad panda …
The only problem with buffing ranger dps in any fashion would be its effect on pvp. Since pvp determines the skills for pve, as Anet has lumped them both together now, the pvp community would not stand for rangers getting a dps increase imo. Condi warrior was kicking butt – gutted. Revenant hammer – neutered. The list goes on. So for now, I shall enjoy my Pew Pew in Open World content where no one cares what you are running.
Unfortunately, Druid gives Rangers a reason for existing (as seen by many players). It is sad, but true. I don’t druid on either of my rangers, I personally don’t like the feel of it. I would rather heal on my tempest but not many ppl will give up the dps of a tempest of heals when there are bunches of druids around. Regarding raids, I fault both developers and players for designing very class specific groups. I am not talking builds. That’s a given in raids. Builds are tweaked. Heck, I tweak mine in dungeons sometimes. But when a boss requires a very specific set of classes in order to be beat, in order to beat that 10 min rage timer while doing the mechanics, there is a problem imo. Its either roll several different class, gear them all up (which, btw I do have) or gtfo, you will not raid. If all you have is a geared guardian, you will not raid. Thank you, enjoy your game. And that is what things like meta battle effectively state. That’s not good. But equally not good is when the devs design things requiring such.
But, I digress … Ranger dps is mediocre, tho it can be pretty good, depending on the player. You’ve got to get off that bow sometimes lol. But the main fault is it brings nothing to the group. The game is designed where other classes brings something else to the group. However, Anet does not make all support groups equal either. A DPS Ranger has Spotter. That’s about it. Meanwhile, perhaps do what I do. I have my chars that I play in certain areas (fractals, raids, dungeons, etc) and I play everything else in open world content and just enjoy myself. No one cares about what class your are playing in open world. BTW, condi rangers get little mention, which is a fail. Condi Rangers are pretty awesome.
I guess I don’t think of run speed buffs as an escape, I think of them as allowing the guard to keep up with the group, to be one of the first in the fight so that the guard can do what the guard is supposed to do. Not be the last to arrive. But if being the last to arrive is the “concept of the class”, I guess I have conceived this class all wrong. My bad.
Guardians should have the option to slot a speed boost or trait into one. If you still prefer to use traveler runes or certain weapons to achieve that, then you can, but for those of us who do not want to use runes for running but instead for dps boosts or who don’t want to have weapons slotted just for running then quickly change to dps ones before someone aggros or have utilities slotted just for running then need to swap them out after they come off CD before aggro is pulled, then we should have the choice like every other class in the game. Give guardians the choice!
Another random status change by the program: Today I placed my char on “away” again, while in the guild hall. 2 hrs later I came back to the computer, “woke” the desktop up and checked my char’s status and it was marked as “online”. I did not change it to “online” from “away”, there was no indication in the chat log showing that (I live alone and my dog has yet to learn to use a mouse or keyboard effectively). Again, what is going on with the random status changes by the program?
New observation: was afk in my guild hall, got busy doing something else. 3+ hours passed before I checked my char again. Ofc, I had been logged off onto the char select screen. Now, when I was in the guild hall I had marked my char “away”, but when I later came back and check my char’s status after it was logged off to the char select screen by the program, my char was showing as “invisible”, not “away”. What is going on? It appears that after x amt of time, the program is reassigning the status.
I have noticed for the past week or less the following happening regarding a player’s option to login as invisible:
A. If player logs out of game to the character select screen while “online” then changes the status to “invisible” then completely logs out, player will be “invisible” the next time player logs back in, regardless of time elapsed.
B. If player selects “invisible” for themselves then logs out of the game, the next time that player logs back in the player will be “online” and not “invisible”, as was last selected. (Note that a period of time must elapse in order for this to occur. It will not occur if you log out then immediately back in).
I have tested this many times, many different ways and this is the summary of my observation. I do not know if this is a bug or an intentional, unannounced change.
Yes, I’ve literally just now started playing around in pvp with my condi warrior. Not pvp’d a whole bunch in GWs (despite my over 6k hrs in the game lol). Have a hard time getting into it compared to others I have but I am just now on my condi. Thanks all for the heads up! However, to answer someone else’s question, condi warrior has not made a comeback in pve. They have made it more survivable in pvp and, lets face it, pvp is all about condi’s atm. How much you can dump on another, how fast, and how much/fast can you cleanse it. That’s the current state of the art in pvp – condi. So, at least in pvp I can play on my condi warrior if I get into pvp more. PvE – not yet but perhaps soon.
I loved playing my condi warrior in pve. But thanks to the nerfs in the name of balancing pvp that effects all realms of the game, my pve condi warrior is shelved. Now, I just float between my others (and I have all classes, etc) and have no true favorite currently. Everytime I do, another “balance” comes along (in the name of pvp) that shelves my then-fav pve class. I give up.
Returning to the model where PvE and PvP were split is the best choice for the survival of this game. Even children can learn that the difference. I have played MMO’s where there was a difference and there were no real issues. Until Anet realized this, Pve will be governed by the whims and tears of the PvP community. I have had to say “goodbye” to several of my favorite classes because of this. Yes, I can still play them, but I try to min/max. That is my choice. But because of Anet’s choice to let PvE be governed by PvP, they are “shelved”. I am not alone in this. This and the kittening of pve content (taking away requirements for metas like AB, for collections like the Luminates Back Plate, etc) is damaging this game for the long term player. Unless you are an achievement seeker or pvp player, it has become disengaging. Just my 2 cents.
Hopefully I can get some advice here. My guild was doing the Guild Missions “Capture and Hold” where we needed to capture and hold a camp for 1 hr. We captured and held a camp for 1 hr, getting at least 51 dolyaks in within that time. There was always at least 3 guild member at the camp the entire time. However, we failed the event. What is needed to successfully complete this event? A search for information suggests it is dependent on the dolyaks and at least 20 must get in. We did that and still failed. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I am totally bored playing my rev now in PVE (I do not play him in pvp and I have multiples of each class). I am doing the meta build, the meta rotation in order to try to maximize my dps. The build and rotation is solid. But the rotation comes down to using 2 attacks (sword 1 & 2), popping your utilities and stance dancing. That’s it. 2 attacks, one of which is the auto attack, which anet wanted players to get away from. Axe 5 when cc is needed. Hammer is neutered. Healing is a joke. Rev effectively has no viable ranged attack. In pvp the class may be something to be reckoned with but for pve its just a buff bot. Sadly, anet has gone to the model of having no difference between pvp skills and pve skills and pvp rules.
So, while I won’t say Rev is the “worst” class, I do believe it has gone downhill since its inception. Hopefully, in time, I will get excited when playing the class again. Meanwhile, I cannot promote people rolling the class for pve other than to provide buffs.
Perhaps this has been asked before, but has there ever been a inquiry into making an option in the recipe books for Condense All (and subsequently Expand All)? I think of this as a QoL issue. Imagine the ability to open your crafting and in 2 easy clicks get directly to the recipe you want, rather than having to scrolllllllllllllll all the way down to the category or type it out.
Again, if this has been asked and there is a reason as to why Anet has not yet implemented this QoL upgrade after 3 yrs, please educate me
Players have been doing this in dungeons for a long time. Why would you not expect these exploits to be found and used in fractals now? I saw this coming as soon as Anet announced their change in dungeon rewards and pushing the players towards fractals. Since the main reason for doing these activities for many of these players who exploit is simply to make money, the quicker the better. If you want to experience these instances as the developers intended them to be, I am sure these exploiters would be happy not to have you in their party. Is is sad, yes. But this game is becoming more about making money and less about the content. Is it the developers fault or the nature of our community … I dunno.
Notsoperky, I’m right there with you regarding Maguuma mastery points. I am 7 points shy of 161 and left with only getting silver in “adventures” that I am struggling with. I am not the best at these types of things nor the worst. Because of various reasons, they are hard for me and I am left in pain and stressed out. I simply to not have the lightening reflexes needed. So, I supposed in Anet’s eyes (and whomever elses) I do not deserve to complete my masteries because I am not a healthy 18 year old with quick reflexes and a super computer. I want to complete this because of the “completionist” in me and because I deserve it but I fear its impossible. Its almost as if they ran out of ideas to ways to get more mastery points so they just tacked on the silver and gold for all the “adventures” … sigh …
Just got back into game
Same problems. Noticed it first with chat. Could only use “say” chat. No party or guild chat. Could not even send mail. So I hard-logged … fatal error. Then it’s taken me about an hour to able to log onto the forums >.<
If they nerf Guardians because of pvp – again it will be effective in pve – again (Feel My Wrath, e.g.) So sad for guardians if that happens – again.
I, like some of you, enjoy logging into the game under the wire from time to time. That is to say, marking myself as “invisible”. However, with the new map UI showing all of our guild mates on the map, it also shows players who are invisible on the map as well. Hopefully this is a coding error. If not, then there is absolutely no point in having “invisible” as an option. Yes, you still do not show up on a guild roster but open up a map and there is your not-so-invisible yellow dot on the map. Is this a coding error or the new format?
Guardian’s role seems to be just dps now, just warroir with heals and with the increase of cd on Feel My Wrath Anet doesnt even want that to be a strong role. Sure, we have heals, condi removals, reflects but other classes have as many or more in some cases now. Guardian is more of a jack-of-all-trade’s, master-of-none class. If that’s your thing, great. Tho no class is “needed” in GWs, as that is the company tag line, Guardians have always been appreciated as a member of the group. I question that in the future now looking at all the other classes. Even in raids I question their role, their necessity. I mourn for my guardian, even tho she is the slowest moving char in the game. It seems that Anet regrets introducing the class in the first place. One should not have to play one spec (‘burn guard’) in order to be a viable member of a group. But while Anet campaigning the new creations, guardians are getting castrated.
Where’s the movement speed/running speed buff/skill for rev’s?
