Damage, Loot, and the Trinity

Considering how most pugs in dungeons actually have no DPS and thus are not contributing to the fight, yet get the same rewards as those of us who are glass cannoning specifically to fill in for those people, I’d say the opposite needs to be true. In fact, loot drops should scale better with damage dealt, and it needs to be more obvious so people actually know they need to contribute.

A simple bronze/silver/gold reward upon killing a boss would be sufficient. Deal 10% of the boss’s maximum HP for bronze, 15% for silver, 20% for gold. Seems reasonable. Also, make it visible to all players in the party, so you can see who’s dead weight and who isn’t.

Really, please. I’m sick of being the only DPS in every pug.

Yes, that sounds like a fantastic idea. We’ll have pure glass-cannon thief/warrior groups and they’ll speed through the dungeons up until a boss knocks everyone out with an AOE and the party wipes. After all, why would anyone want to sacrifice loot in favor of keeping said glass-cannons alive?
Trust me, if PUGs stopped going for survivability, your experiences would be much, much worse. As it stands, it just takes a little longer.

Unless that post was meant to be a parody of players you have encountered. It sounds so extreme, it might well be.

What's with the new loot chests?

Ya know what fix I want…

Just put all loot in my bags when the mob dies. I’m going to pick it all up anyway. This would make WvW much better as it can be extremely tricky to grab the bags when scrambling for your life. In PvE, it becomes a matter of noticing that you have loot to pick up or not.

I agree with this. Loot can stay on the corpses if my inventory is full, but other than that… is there any reason not to pick up loot? 10c is better than 0c in any case.

Unless “spotting loot” is part of the challenge…

I think Veterans/Champions = Worthless

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Laufey.5129

Many times, Veterans and Champions don’t drop anything for me and if they do, it’s usually a blue or white item. I’ve been paying attention as I read that they improved the drop rate for vets/champions in a patch a while ago – if so, I haven’t noticed much of a change.

I don’t know if it’s because it always spawns at the end of the Plinx event chain (and that has been nerfed, I believe), but the Champion Risen Abomination hardly ever drops anything for me. Maybe one or two times out of ten. Not only is that annoying, it also makes running off to tag some mobs during a different event that much more tempting because I know I won’t miss anything.

It’s absolutely not worth it. Killing vets isn’t and killing champions really, really isn’t unless it’s for an event and even then it’s something I’d consider skipping. Veterans sometimes are in the way so they have to be killed, fair enough, but champions can usually be avoided and so most people do exactly that. I think a big issue is their massive amount of HP. It takes a loooong time to take them down and not only do we not get rewarded, it’s also really boring – especially if you use a ranged weapon. I’ve alt+tabbed out of the game more than once to quickly do something else while auto-attacking the champion.

Never noticed any of this other than fewer dead NPCs. And even so, if someone else is running towards them and I’m closer, I wait until they’re here before I start to revive. If you are in Orr, participate in a few events, there will be plenty of downed players.

I have no idea what the issue with dodging is. Find a ranged foe such as the grubs or tar elementals and dodge their attack if you want to get it done quickly, it’s quite easy. I’ve never had anyone just run in and kill them, not even in Orr. Also, I assume if you told them what you’re doing they’d most likely leave.

About reporting people for kicking

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Laufey.5129

Laufey.5129

The kicking system works perfectly in my opinion. I know being kicked out of a group isn’t nice and even offending.
However how unetical it is, it is also totally normal that you cant force someone to play with you. I know that when we are talking and halfway your sentence I walk away that that is not done. But is is my freedom to do so anyway.

if you dont want to have this to happen dont play in pug’s. 99% of the time I have had an awesome time in pug’s. 1% is a pug of jerks. so be it.

There’s a difference between someone not wanting to play with you and using you to get through the whole dungeon, only kicking you once you’re not needed anymore.
Clearly these individuals want you along for the ride, they just don’t want you to get anything out of it.
That’s completely different from what you are describing.

And hey, if the bad eggs are so few, there shouldn’t be a problem punishing them, since it won’t hurt the game to lose a few jerks for the benefit of the rest.

No there is not a difference. It is called freedom. And yes they are jerks. And yes they get on my FL, with a nick reminding me never to play with them ever again. And yes. Everytime I see them LFG I tell whole map chat what they’ve done. But I don’t think that the freedom to kick someone in any situation should be prohibited, or that Anet should be acting as a policeofficer for something we could easily handle as a community.

If Anet is banning those people I disagree. I have seen misbehaviour in other games e.g. LOTRO. on my server one had caused and incident during an activity making the share of the loot (not such an issue in gw2, but likewise behaviour as in this situation) go wrong.

The result was that his name became garbage on the server within 10 minutes. got kicked out of his guild (or whatever thats called again in lotro). in every map he came people where warning the entire community to not play with him. after bout 5 hours he came round, made a public appoligy, handed over the goods and assured he had learned his lesson and would never do it again. He was also inmediatly excepted back into the community.

That’s a nice story. I don’t see how it’s better than an ‘official’ punishment, however. The problem is that there need to be a lot of people there to witness whatever has happened (which isn’t the case in a dungeon) AND the person who did it needs to care enough for this to work.

I don’t even know how you could liken behavior like this to “freedom”. Freedom to be an utter jerk? Freedom to abuse a system in order to annoy someone else? Freedom to do whatever the hell we want? That’s not how it works, nor should it work that way anywhere. Besides, you do realize we don’t have the “freedom” to even use swear words on this forum, why would expect it to be all right with ANET if we go around griefing each other?

I think they should get a warning or a temporary ban. There’s no excuse. If the OP really was terrible or rude, they had plenty of chance to kick them before and I doubt the OP started insulting the rest of the group right before the last boss was down.

more revealing clothing?

Some examples above are way Anet used to limit tone down sexuality in game.

As for you not liking sexualized clothing on women. This is the most basic insistent for the human race. People are attracted to the opposite sex or sometimes same sex.

I think there are still plenty of revealing “armors”. I’m glad not all of them are like that.

I don’t enjoy sexualized clothing on men either and that’s not because I’m not attracted to men. (I’m only referring to video games, of course. In real life, everybody’s free to dress however they wish to and I won’t mind.)

The point is that nobody ever asks for “sexy male outfits” and I’m tired of seeing female characters run around in what looks like underwear for no reason other than giving some people something to ogle.

The funny thing here is that the only reason some races feel sexualized is because of their underwear in the first place.

For example: Why the heck do charr females have a “breast cloth” when they clearly have no breasts, and thus no actual reason to conceal their chests? I can’t imagine it’s a habit they’d pick up from humans because they HATE humans, and I doubt they trade fashion statements with Norn. And it’s been stated there are no nipples, either, so that’s not the reason. Why conceal your chest, then, if you’re not concealing anything? It’d be like putting a bra on your cat’s chest,: you’re not covering anything, and you only seem weirder to everyone else because you felt the need to cover it up in the first place.

Similarly: the Sylvari are plants, what purpose does underwear serve? I know they’re meant to resemble human biology and thus have “plant parts”, but the act of sex is very likely meaningless to them. It’s not even known if they gain any form of “pleasure” from it, and they can’t breed in this fashion, so it’s left in doubt if they actually gain anything from the act. And their relationships often form regardless of gender so it’s not likely that, sans underwear, there’d be tons of sylvari out there “flaunting their bodies” for mates, given how pure in spirit the sylvari are established to be for the most part (except the Nightmare Court, but honestly I’m not even sure they’d be doing that sort of thing). By wearing “plant underwear”, they’ve added sexuality to characters who honestly have no attachment to it.

And lastly: Why, in the name of the Six, do Asura females wear “jumpsuits” for underwear? This isn’t a sexuality thing, it’s just WEIRD. And I don’t have the foggiest idea how they’d remove them, either, because they’re skintight and don’t have any visible zippers, latches, or such things. Are they “magitech jumpsuits” that just fall off when the asuran female strokes it a certain way, or what? Seriously, I’d never even ask myself about how an asuran gets busy if they didn’t wear such absurdly impractical-looking underwear. ._.

I agree with all of that. Especially the Charr. Those were some fairly ridiculous design decisions. :-/

What is wrong with nudity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Laufey.5129

Laufey.5129

There’s nothing wrong with nudity per se, but it’s rather pointless in a game. You can talk about how it’s natural all you want (and I’ll agree), but that doesn’t change that the majority of naked women would be played by sixteen year old boys who for some reason can’t just watch some porn and be done with it.

Also, I do hope that everyone arguing in favor of nudity is just as fine with seeing naked men everywhere as they would be with seeing naked women. Because this discussion seems to be awfully focussed on women.

I don’t really understand anything beyond the inital question. Perhaps you could clarify the point you’re trying to make.

As for revealing clothes, I personally dislike them since the female version is generally sexualized in some way, whereas the male version may show skin, but hardly ever makes the character look like a stripper.

It’s funny, because I think all the skins for women on that list look ridiculous and much too revealing. It’s supposed to be armor, not the latest designer piece for a fashion show. The “heavy” armor is especially sad. I’ll take a trenchcoat over those skins any day.

That said, I wouldn’t be against some more medium armor skins that look cool, but aren’t trenchcoats.

Yeah, the resource nodes spawn per player, so no worries there.

From what I understand, loot as well as experience points are per player also. Generally, I don’t think anyone would mind if you helped them kill something. If it’s for a heart, both players get progress. The only scenario I could imagine where people would mind is if you’re level 80 and walking through a level 1-15 zone, killing everything in your way before other players can get a chance to do the minimum amount of damage required to get loot/exp. (You do get downscaled for the zone, but you’re still significantly stronger.)

The one with the Inquest generators in Bloodtide Coast. It always seems to be up, because nobody can finish it on their own in a reasonable amount of time. I’m sure it could be done if you want to spend an hour on it, but that can’t be the point.

Events where you have to keep an NPC alive are very difficult as well. There’s an event chain in Fireheart Rise that ends in having to protect a giant… devourer (?), for example. Those events are always a pain, since NPCs don’t even stop to regen health and just run straight to the next mob, regardless of whether it’s a Veteran and they’re still only at half health.

Champions aren’t worth the time it would take to kill them (if you can kill them at all on your own).

Toypocalypse Achievement in a PuG is difficult

Hm, I got lucky and managed to do it with the first PUG I ended up with. Zero communication, but it wasn’t really necessary. As others have said, just put walls all around the dolyaks and build lots of siege weapons, try to draw Toxx away from the middle. (Though he doesn’t seem to be as much of a death sentence for the dolyaks as others have suggested. He was right next to one of the dolyaks several times and didn’t manage to kill it.)

That said, I do wish I could have done it with friends while chatting with them on Skype/TS/etc. It would have felt a lot less like a drag towards the end, I think.

Laufey.5129

I’ve enjoyed the event too. The problem is many people want EVERYTHING from the event and are not happy if that happens to cost them too much time or too much money. For me, I’ve been happy doing each airship event and grabbing a couple of toys and getting the Apprentice Toymaker title. But I don’t look at an event as a chance to grab as many of the things on offer as possible. I look at what is available within the constraints that I set myself, and then ensure I get them. I do not buy boxes, I do not buy gems to spend on items in the cash shop. My gems are spent on character upgrades such as bank space and character slots.

People need to set themselves budgets, be that in time spent or cash spent, and then go about getting what they can within these budgets. If someone wants it all, be prepared to pay.

This is everything I wanted to say, but worded much more eloquently than I would have managed. I really have nothing to add, this is exactly how I see events and I have had lots of fun with this one.

Well said.

As a solution, I think we should get the option to do it solo. That way, it doesn’t matter how long your computer takes to load something and some other problems (people getting in the way, general waiting times) would also be solved.

I thought the JP was all right, the only thing that really annoyed me was the waiting. Alt+tab and check back a second too late and you can wait all over again. They can’t seriously expect us to stare at the same screen for two minutes every time we fall. It’s mind-numbing. I don’t mind that it’s timed or that there are other people, but the waiting is ridiculous.

It took me way more than just the few tries people here claim to have needed, but that’s okay. I managed eventually, as I did with the Clocktower.

I’m against difficulty settings. Harder difficulty will need to have a better reward (or people will complain) and then we’ll have the same scenario yet again that there are people who can’t complete it, but want the reward.

I don’t see why the JP can’t be a solo instance. Or why we don’t get the option to do it solo, in case there are people who like the charr blocking their view and the waiting. Hoping the people who are jumping with you will fall off soon seems to go against the whole point of the game, but maybe that’s just me.

Strength: 7. Great for soloing because of the pets, even if you don’t spec for them specifically. I’m generally not worried when I run around with him. I think a slight DPS buff couldn’t hurt, though.

Variability: 5. I’m not terribly experienced with sPvP, but the Rangers’ abilities don’t seem to work all that well in sPvP. Also, whenever I see a Ranger in sPvP (on a different character), I guiltily look forward to the fight because chances are I’ll win. Once again, people complaining about not being able to see their character wouldn’t be able to complete it anyway. Face it, you’re too slow. End of story.

Not true at all. I think the only serious flaw is that you have to do it with other people and I’ve completed it with two different characters. That has nothing to do with speed and everything with playing a tiny Sylvari and jumping in tandem with a Charr. It’s very disorienting.

Other than that, it’s fine.

Guess what? I’m a tiny Sylvari too and I had no problems. You need to be faster.

There’s a limit to how fast you can be and other people can get there, too. Regardless of whether you mean speed because of passive boosts or because of skill, other people will always be able to do the same.

Besides, I did complete it and can do it again fairly easily now, so I don’t think I need to be faster at all. I quoted your post to bring it to your attention that I can and have completed it, but still think not being able to see my character during the first couple of jumps is poor design and adds a layer of fake difficulty that we could do without.

Don’t assume the only people who dislike this particular aspect of the jumping puzzle are the ones that haven’t completed it yet.

In my view, Clock Tower is not fun [Merged]

Once again, people complaining about not being able to see their character wouldn’t be able to complete it anyway. Face it, you’re too slow. End of story.

Not true at all. I think the only serious flaw is that you have to do it with other people and I’ve completed it with two different characters. That has nothing to do with speed and everything with playing a tiny Sylvari and jumping in tandem with a Charr. It’s very disorienting.

Other than that, it’s fine.

How to finish the Clock Tower in 2 easy steps

I sure wish it was a solo instance. Otherwise, I think it’s difficult but doable. (I just finished it after… many, many, many attempts.)

My biggest problem are Charr characters. They seriously get in the way – that is bad design and has nothing to do with skill. Of course, now I don’t need to see my character for the first parts, that’s how often I’ve done it, but that doesn’t really excuse the poor design.

Good tips, though. Never knew about the music reflecting how much time you have left, I needed some of my own music to calm me down :p

Yeah, I wish I could solo it as well. It’s not that I’m against playing with other people, but I’d like to actually see my character in the cutscenes. :-/ It’s not as big a deal for me as for some others, but I would prefer it if only the exploration parts of the dungeons required a group.

This is a problem with all dungeons: I never pay attention to the story while playing in a group. So far, I’ve always played with members of my guild and it was a blast, but I have a hard time recalling what was going on. We were chatting via ventrilo so I only remember bits and pieces. Let alone the fact that once only the party leader could see the cutscenes and no-one else could.
I guess you could say that’s my fault, but I thought being forced into groups was meant to encourage communication.
