How can you think a build is popular, based off of what a few people on a forum think? I dont think it is as popular as people believe it is.
Didnt say supply drop was useless, it is awesome in spvp. For WvW, it is so easily avoidable and the turrets are so quickly destroyed. Ikittenerg fight, and if you drop it in the middle of a group (as most people do) it will interrupt a few people, net one more and be promptly destroyed by the AE that people are spamming.
I play my engineer primarily in WvW, I have played some hotjoins but I feel that is not where the class shines.
@Lebannen
Not sure what you are refering to in my post.
A confusion build vs 100 nade? I totally agree that Confusion build own 100nade in duel.
Did you ever post a video of your engineer? Your tone in your post make it looks like you are a really good engineer. Would be cool to see that in action!
By the way, about your first post. A well played 100nade can be a pretty good roamer. Hit and run tactic. Not the best dueler, but it’s not big deal.
Didn’t play much TankCat, but the build was made for WvW, and is lacking in tPvP because of the confusion nerf.
Wasnt directed at you in any negative connotation friend. I was just highlighting the awesomeness that was your post
I was just adding on with my statement, nothing more.
As for videos, I have always had problems with people posting them. Every single one of them come across like they are pretentious winkittens, play horrible music and have dialect incompatibilities. I would be a hypocrite if I posted one.
I run with Elixir X. I enjoy the randomness of it, it makes me stay alert if I have to use it. I will tell you that I run a dual pistol build with as much condition damage as possible. It is everywhere. Corruption main hand, Smoldering off for sigils. Condition damage food and master tuning crystal.
I run a 30/30/0/10/0 build with 10 in alchemy, I take the % conversion into condi damage and throughout my Explosives and Firearms I use as much status effects as possible. I dont use coated bullets. I get the majority of my damage from grenades at range, Flamethrower up close and If I am running in a small group/solo I will run toolkit. If I know I will be hitting a zerg head on, I will run toolkit mag pull, prybar and then load them up on dots and spam grenades.
I rake in about 50-60 badges a hour and my build really shines on tower assaults/defense. Flamethrower through the door (people who relied on the omnom pie cry now, it was a needed fix) kills siege and people with the bleeds/burns. I actually run a stun breaker in my build as well. I make fun of the builds that have silly names. 100nade, Tankcat, ’blah, blah x super engi build of doom and pain" The goal of the class is to find a build that suits your play style not what other people tell you that you should use.

The Commander Tag should be purchased with Badges won, the continued use of commander tag should be based off of people in your squad and unlocked abilities based of the squad’s experience gathered. Or, commander should be able to be voted on by 25% of available people in the zone. Commander’s that are voted on should be given an experience bonus.
The Commander Tag should have the following abilities
1) Ability to hire champion level NPC’s for missions and scouting
2) Ability to move siege
3) Ability to coordinate siege equipment on the same timer and providing a 10% boost to recharge speed
4)Ability to merge with another commander’s group and become a Marshal for even more abilities
5) Able to salvage siege for supplies (including enemies)
6) Charter Dolyaks to pack siege supplies
Since you have an engi, you should know how to fight 100nade.
I stopped playing my 100nade build like 1-2 month ago. I fought many other 100nade since then, and I have yet to die to them.
Only a few master it, and landing it again a good player shouldn’t happen.
You running in hotjoin and 100nading people is nothing impressive. Any class could do that.
Hotjoin is basicaly Glass cannon kingdon were everybody randomly push key to try to get a kills.
In low level tPvP, a really good 100nade can pull some good play, but nothing better then the average class.
Mosharn, the build already got nerfed I don’t know how many time, yet with the last nerf still not fully active. This build already received is share of tonning down.
Also, I would like to see you fight a HGH burst condition build, and see how well you “own” with your superior 100nade build.
I run with over 2100 condi damage. If I land confusion, they have to blow a heal. If I land confusion and burn low hp (outside of ele) they die. If I land Confusion, Burn, Bleed and poison, they better have a heal and condi-removal up because I will kill them otherwise. Doesnt matter what class, the DoT’s will wear them down long enough that I can live through anything they have.
Go post this in sPvP forums because This is eng forum and 100nades is crap anywhere but sPvP.
^ 10000000000 Times.
100 nades and Tank cat are two builds I love to call 100 ’nades of failure and Failcat. Try that crap in wvw and you will die more then killing things.
In WvW numbers and condition damage is king.
The dream server would be WvW with population caps that auto adjust every other point tick for population curves.
Server A 75
Server B 100
Server C 200
Instead of having a blind cap of 200 (arbitrary number) It would be based off of the lowest population servers amount in WvW. To prevent abuse, the population would be checked every 25-30 minutes and no timer would be publicly shown. This eliminates population advantages. The other option would be to keep the standard as is, but change the undermanned buff to adding:
1) 20% boosts to all stats and damage
2) 33% reduction in Siege material cost and plans
Regardless of what option you choose it should not be an arbitrary number it should be a fluctuating model that incorporates the lowest server represented. Also, the jumping puzzles should be a separate pvp zone that is only awarded to those realms that have 250 points or more under their control.

I walked up to 2 guys attacking a tower of the enemy team yesterday in the late evening. They were meleeing it. They had been meleeing it for 15 minutes and not a single person had come to defend it or check on it. So I joined them. We meleed the door down for another 5-10 minutes and took the tower. Three people.
You only needed one person to come and ruin our day. Pointing out that not a single person came is not bragging. We are honestly confused as to where your people are.
As probably the most hated person on the server, I can answer this. SBI has an overabundance of ‘fair weather players’. Unless we are winning within the first 5 hours on friday, people started saying “Well, back to PvE/Farming”.
You will not have many fights outside of the mindless zerging and some of them are leaving. SBI is flooded with good ideas but unless they are followed by a blue tag or spam about SBI teamspeak they are not adhered.
Yesterday, about 4pm CST Maguuma was trying to take Ogrewatch and a certain commander that I frequently name as probably the worst one on SBI. Placed siege in the easiest place for Mag to counter siege. Props to you guys for already posting up counter siege at the exact places where it would hit all of ours. After a few deaths, the commander took his crew to an uncontested BL.
For the most part, SBI has people willing to learn but we have the some of the worst commanders in the history of PvP, anywhere. We lose to inferior numbers on a regular basis and I give additional props to the 5 CD (3 thieves 1 d/d ele and ranger) by pangoloss that wiped a good 25 SBI people. I watched from Ogrewatch, spamming in team chat what would happen, and yet again. I was right
Maguuma, please dominate SBI as much as possible. I want you guys to get up 400+ plus so I can ridicule SBI into making some transfers off or generally quit the game in general. SBI is a solid server that belongs in tier 6 but we have a population advantage. Mostly bad players, but in WvW numbers trump skill most of the time.

Well, 40 laurels by just playing the game, and 50 ectos from TP or salvaging rares you get by playing the game.
The only grind I see is the one you put on yourself. You can get your ecto from pent/shelt runs and Plinx over and over again. Ill get mine from fractals, the rehauled AC, and another dungeon or two.
Your way is grind. My way is fun and lends progress to multiple goals. Perception vs. reality is a kitten.
If you do pve. I dont, I only have done 1 fractal and 1 dungeon and I hated both of them. So, it is not possible for me to get a legendary outside of buying gems and converting to gold.

I completely agree. :p
Sorry, I haven’t noticed this thread yet; thank you guys who referred me, but I think there’s better suited persons for the job. I pretty much only do wvw nowadays, and I only have one build and it’s variations.
Dont want you to take offense, but I should have explained my position. Like you said, you use one build and minor variations. To get a good sample, I would think it would be someone who does extensive WvW as a commonly played engineer and someone (could be the same person) who plays the engineer as a member of a solid team more than 50% of the time. This person should be able to relay information of their perspective, experience, and traits/equipment.
I dont think Anet will balance the classes based off of WvW. There are so many variables that it would be a daunting class and lets face it, Anet refuses to hire more developers and release a testing server.
You want the best or most liked according to who post youtube videos? Personally, I would go to the tpvp and find the highest rated group that sports an engineer 50% of the time or more.
Not someone who posts videos on Youtube.
I feel your build needs more pry bars.
Only problem with pry bars is that you have to get in range to use it, and the majority of players now know to avoid the wrench. The Prybar is a gimmick maneuver at best and anyone worth their salt can and will avoid it.
A fact is that 95% wvw population are more socially adept than I . All they do is play in huge groups spamming skills, the way Anet wanted the game to be played. Then when they get insta gibbed by a single abusing culling thief, they describe how unfair it is to be abused by a game mechanic that is being exploited. However, I need to declare that I am socially inept and I do not want my class balanced because I like to compare game superiority to my social standing.
There you go buddy, I fixed your post for you. You do not need to thank me.
That isnt what you said roz. You said elixir X is bad, you made no mention of runes combination.
Elixir X is highly undervalued and under rated. The Juggernaut can be extremely useful in the same situations as the Tornado. Jugg’s stomp is great for knocking people from edges of towers/keeps
The combo 3-2-4 (Tackle, Kick, followed by rock throw is great for a knockdown chain)
The Slide Tackle is great to escape a zerg or a thief, or how i use it to get to a door when people are guarding the entrance.
People rely on supply crate to much, it ignores so many other possibilities.
supply crate far outshines the RNG elite.
yeah, one AE can wipe out the turrets and what can you do in a 2 sec stun? Sorry. I doubt the supply crate. Ill keep sticking to my Elixir X and smashing people in the face or throwing people around in tower defenses.
First of all, Spvp has nothing to do with WvW. This game revolves around WvW, if that disappears this game folds.
From a WvW perspective as having a thief and playing against them. They need a nerf, I quit playing mine after I can take on 2 and 3 people killing at least one then run away. The class is broken, it needs to be fixed. I deleted it after spending about 35g to level and gear one up. I couldnt stand to have a class that is that out of balance.
Only killing 1 vs 2-3? Then get away?
Any class can do that.
But can they do it at 90% health? no they cant. Keep defending it, either three things will happen.
1) Anet will cave into pressure -Least likely
2) People will finally rage enough to quit the game over game imbalance. 2nd place
3) People will ignore the threads and continue to be abused by game mechanics until you have a dire overpopulation of thieves. Most likely to occur

This build is pure crap. Bad synergy, no swiftness, endurance dmg traits without any endurance regen or refil, missed best defensive skills and traits and I can continue. You dont survive enough and your dmg will by average. Elixir X is last nail in cofin.
If you think Elixir X is bad…I can pretty much assume then you might be a
The funny thing about engineer “versatility” is that most of decent the engi builds fall into the “one-trick” pony category (100nades, the new confusion builds, static discharge, Tankcat). This is not to say these builds are easy to play, quite the contrary most folks need to play extremely well to execute their strategy, but in the end if the opponent dodges or recognize the “trick” there is little the Engineer can do to counter.
1) If you are looking to forums for stupidly named builds. Then you really shouldnt play the engineer.
2) If you are unable to do research on your own, to design a build, trait and equipment to fit your playstyle and reaction time. You shouldnt play an engineer.
3) If you rely on youtube to teach you how to play a class. Then you need to play some easy game like Call of Duty.
^. Agree. And PLEASE don’t start the: ‘does engi suck or doesn’t it’ discussion. That has been discussed about since release!
But try to run the new available builds some great engineer created like Stupid named build or failBUILD, those builds really donate badges to your enemies in wvw
Fixed for accuracy
Simple fix to thieves.
Damage received automatically breaks stealth. This would not work at all. This isn’t a like most other games were stealth lasts indefinitely.
It’s enough that hitting a thief in stealth is actively killing them – and it’s extremely easy to do in this game because of the massive amounts of aoe. Additionally automatically stripping their only form of defense is too much. Every other class spends resources and gets X amount of reliable protection in whatever form outside of boon stripping in some cases – and those cases are balanced around boon stripping. Random aoe making it impossible to stealth, especially in large scale combat, leaves the thief class fragile and vulnerable with no upside to offset it. And no, a 4 minute CD “run away” ability doesn’t fix it.
All it does is make the thief choose their targets more carefully. If you think it is ok to run in the middle of a zerg, kill one person and vanish at 80% life you are sorely mistaken. However, there are no developers willing to fix a stealth class in any MMO due to the large portion of players actually fanatical about it.
I will say this, Star Wars has a well balanced stealther class. Sith Assassin/Jedi shadow no matter how you spec them Tank/DPS have everything I mentioned. Its fantastic to play a stealther with the thrill of knowing if you screw up, you die.
Instead of insta-gibbing people for 5k 3 or 4 times before they can react. You know the class is broken and you dont want the fix that will make them balanced. Its ok, just admit it. I play an engineer.
My belief is that Anet do not hold the same balance opinions on thiefs that alot of players in this thread do.
They might want to start. This game doesn’t have a subscription base so if they lose population they cant go to the free to play system.
Or not, this plenty of other games to jump ship coming up.
why dont people accept that the issue isnt the theif class itself its culling
It isnt just the culling, its the fact that thieves have so many stealth options.
Whole lotta bad DAoC information here.
Either way thieves are fine, and can be melted by any other class at any time.
Please elaborate on the so called bad DAoC information?
Its ok, just admit it. I play an engineer.
Then you know how badly engineer’s stealth toolbelt s skill needs a nerf. Being able to stealth 50% of the time (its random) on a 60 second cooldown is ridic. With the insane DPS an engineer can pump out on practically every spec, this needs to be looked at. Devs get on this please.
LOL at you trying to say an engineer DPS is on par with other classes. It only shows you how much you are trying to protect the thief class.
I dont care if they remove stealth, in fact I encourage it.

I think you and I should get together and advise Matt Frior with TESO and remind him that people know his format and we have seen his 3 realm war in action
Calling it now, It will be DAoC part 2 reskinned. Nords will be midgard
I see we can go back and forth for years about knowledge, you have your personal knowledge and I had official non-published data.
Plow was good friends with Mackey, (Will say that I couldnt remember the name, but I remember the conversation about skalds)
It wasnt sbaldes that could oneshot and stay stealthed. It was everyone for years, I think it was 1.78 or 1.79 that finally fixed that.
Viper was the most reliable counter to infiltrators but if it was down, they were done.
Scouts dont count, Rangers here do not even come close the overpoweredness of scouts in DAoC.
Smite Clerics and Valkyries, didnt know they could stealth.
This portion is about Thieves vs DAoC’s terrible imbalance of stealth dynamics and classes.
Simple fix to thieves.
Damage received automatically breaks stealth.
Reduce effectiveness of condition removal in stealth (Make it a grandmaster)
Give them 1 elite escape (remove another) that gives them a 50% speed boost, drops them from combat, unbreakable stealth, removes all initiative, 240 second reuse timer and unable to attack for 12-15 seconds.
Then leave their damage as is, thieves are now fixed.
I have admitted on numerous times, that I didnt think we would make the jump from being destroyed for weeks at a time to the position we currently hold. Was I wrong, yes I am. I admitted that a good bit.
Does that change anything about my previous post? not one bit.
I want to apologize to IOJ and DR for SBI running the table and getting everything. Apparently the server has forgotten what the feels like, I sincerely hope we get bumped up somehow 2 or 3 tiers and zerged 24-7 for about 3 weeks. Maybe that will weed out more fair weather players and cause the server to realize it isn’t smart to stack 500+ points for 3 weeks straight.
the game isn’t really designed like the way he’s suggesting, Its an excuse used in every game that’s had stealthers
“Well, Such and Such stealther is meant to be amazing in 1v1”
Completely ignoring that my Stealth can do 1vsX and do much better then other classes as well
Actually the game this is templated after, Dark Age of Camelot, did just that. Stealth in that game quite literally had next to no escapes, tiny ranged damage, and no aoe ability. Also low mobility and though could perma stealth they could not stealth in combat and damage popped them.
Thieves in this game are capable of everything.
Stealthers in DAOC were such a different beast then this game…Its amazing that over time Developers have actually took a solid concept of the Stealth in DAOC, and completely made it worse all around balance and gameplay wise.
At least when they did Warhammer Online they improved on the Stealther Concept.
Though Stealthers were a bit more powerful then their DAOC counterpart, Stealth was much weaker over all in comparison to make up for it.
Both of you are wrong on so many levels regarding Stealth on DAoC.
1) Infiltrators had 2.5 spec points, meaning they could have more higher level skills then any other class in the game. If you combined that with the autotraining feature they became walking machines of death before the Revamp of RA’s in New frontiers.
(I was a Team Lead for several years with DAoC I know the internal fighting that went on, that crap people posted on VN and the herald was propaganda by Sanya Thomas and Matt Frior)
1b) Saracen was the best race for infiltrator, period. High Dex race with a Dexterity 75% / 25% strength weaponskill ratio was wrong.
1c) Dragonfang pre nerf was a 9 second stun, post nerf was a 5 second stun off of a evade. Really? evade 5 (add dodger 2 which was cap evasion, but most didnt use it) meant that once every 15 seconds you had a 5 second stun coming at you. Hibernia pierce had one, think the name was widow<something) had it at 24 or 29 in pierce.
Nightshades, 2.2 spec points. Extremely high growth rates on abilities to offset low strength of races. (Hence why Celt and later shar were not allowed to become nightshades until years after the majority left)
Shadowblades, 2.2 spec points. Was forced to spec slashing. (Myself, Sabranic and the Sblade TL convinced them before ToA to allow sblades to equip spears on internal testing (Not pendragon server, Uther) and it was stupid the damage they did. A 2h spear Perforate artery was hitting for 1100+ against Hibernia Scale. Matt Jacobs, Pete Waterman and Matt Frior all 3 screamed overpowered and Mackey (I will be blanked, if I let midgard overpower anyone again).
I can also tell you the classes they all played, only Sanya Thomas played Midgard and she played a Healer. (mend/pac)
So please, please stop comparing this game to DAoC. You guys know nothing about DAoC except what someone else told you. You ran around in stupid 8 man gank groups farming stupid zergs with overpowered realm abilities. It wasnt skill then, and it isnt skill now.
And before you say “you must have been a zergling” Wrong, I played with Bedlam on Galahad/Hibernia and Midgard. How many of you had a free subscription with Mythic since Shrouded Isles? I did all the way until Darkness Rising when I quit and turned over my account back to Mythic per the contract. I know more about the inner workings of that horribly managed company then most of you can fathom.
Maybe it is just me, but they should split the Elixir into two separate elites.
I found Teldo. He is not as good
Say what?
Perhaps you should have specified that you were looking for PvE oriented material.
There are very very veeeeeeeeery few engineers out there who are better/more experianced than teldo when it comes to tPvP. Even fewer if you want videos/stream.But yes he don’t really explains his builds
Why should he? is he or anyone else required to tell you what to play? figure it out for yourself.
I wasn’t the one asking for advices/videos etc was i?
I know and understand engineer perfectly well and know how to make it work for myself thank you.
Gosh darn scrub.
Oh wow, the “scrub” comment. I havent seen that one…ever.
I found Teldo. He is not as good

I mainly follow Dontain and Wooden Potatoes channels on you tube, but the problem with those is that the use Worrior and Elementalists and focus entire videos around them and their builds.
I’m an Engineer, so I’m uninterested in most of their videos…Is there any channel out there that uses/ focus/ shows builds with an Engineer?
This is the last thing Engineers need, the class is designed to be hybrid support. Notice the recent changes to damage/utility. If this class gets to be challenging others roles it will get nerfed again and again and again.
People if you have found something that works, for crying out loud. SHUT UP. Dont go brag about how awesome it is, all it does will garner attention from the fair weather players and it will get nerfed. Please, if you love the class keep your trap shut.
Punkins you nailed it, unless these stupid builds that are on youtube are number 1. The masses cant deal with people who can think outside the box and place use and utility with other items.
I tested flamethrower again. Few things:
1) It’s MUCH more intuitive – I was able to hit with everything fairly well and only the auto attack seemed weird.
2) The autoattack range still doesn’t match up with animation – My flames STILL hit, but I “miss” the target.
3) This is inferior in damage to Bomb and Grenade kit. This is a low skill and less damage version of those two kits. It really shouldn’t be a kit for people who can’t handle harder kits. Make it what it really should be: Point defense. Give skill 2 less damage and a knock back. Making this a mid range damage kit makes it inferior to other damage kits.
4) Skill 4 and 5 still feel out of place. I understand how to use them, but it feels like a stretch.
5) The 10% vs burning is too minimal. I honestly didn’t even notice it.
Overall: You still have to work way harder with this kit for less of an effect than other kits. Make it a CC kit.
1) I found it much easier overall to hit.
2)That could be server lag, player lag or communication issues in between. The way I understand it, the animation does not actually ‘hit’ you. An invisible frontal cone dictates if/how you get struck and the animation does not fit the same mold as the cone.
3)If you are looking for “skill” in a video game. Then you might want to consider online chess. Bomb Kit requires you to get in melee distance where the Engineer (regardless of asinine named builds ‘tankcat’ is horribly over matched. The bomb kit shines at combo fields (especially stealth around a corner to get in a keep for a group) and killing bad thieves chasing you. It might work in spvp, but again I wouldnt bring an engineer there.
Grenade kit, is right now the best overall kit we have. Range, decent damage and control. This kit should be what every engineer has on them at all times.
4)Not really. Fskill Elixir S plus BKit 5 is a nice combo to peel off of others especially in spvp. 4 needs a longer duration.
5) I would agree with you. It is barely noticeable. It should be 15-20%. Overall Flamethrower damage should be raised 10% plus the new buff. Elixir Gun should be raised 20-30% base.
I think he’s referring to the Medkit Discharge, which was indeed spammable.
Winner!!
It’s because you can use the Medkit to add damage to the flamethrower channel, without breaking it, which was/is a smart idea…
Winner!!
@Lebannen
And I’m sure that the likes of warriors and thieves haven’t been posting videos of their high-scores of literally oneshotting other classes -owait.
What about soloing dung -owait.
The thing is, if engineers have to play the flight of the bumblebees on keyboard in order to win a fight, they’ve EARNED it. There is NO way that’s roflstomping ANYBODY.
Again, if you read all of my post. It will pretty much tell you the classes which developers prefer. Years of experience have failed to prove me wrong.
As for playstyles, your opinion does not matter. My opinion does not matter, the developers opinion dictated that the nerf was necessary. Their opinion matters. I am sorry you dont think so, but anet differs.
Re-traited to FT/EG last night to test out the changes in WvW. If you are a solo roamer like me I would not recommend it.
Problem 1: You are taking a medium armor, weak traited class and trying to fit into a role that does not suit you. With a weapon kit(s) that are for support (either offense/defense) and expecting to win.
Not the games or developers fault. We as engineer should play with the mindset that is given before us. A Support role in either offense or defense, relying on immunities and exploiting quirks (omnom pie) is the reason classes get nerfed. If you dont believe me, look at what ANET just nerfed.
You are playing a hybrid class. You will never beat the damage of thief, warrior etc nor will you have the support of a guardian. Embrace this and it will be much happier.
Does the Engineer need work, yes. Whining about kit refinement is minor. Everyone and their momma running the 100 nade build bragging about how you can roffelstompLMAOplane everyone then are stupid enough to post videos (100nade/Teldo) is what got this class nerfed…again. It provided documented evidence of something the developers did not want to see happen. Good Job!
If you find something that is working, you dont go brag about it. You shut up and keep it informal. The engineer community has no one to blame but ourselves for this. We deserve it.
Speaking from experience, I have tested internally (and on payroll) for many different MMO’s and companies. I know what are the quickest ways to get classes nerfed which posting videos is the #1 way. I also know what classes developers typically play and are usually the last ones to get nerfed.
Before you go and whine about me. Here are some of the games and companies I have worked on.

Lots of other games, but the above is who paid me for my services.
If you want something changed, Anet is one of the few companies that will actually tell you they will listen. Developers have a pretty firm idea on how they want the game to play and interact and they pour hours and hours of time in it to keep it running smooth and sometimes ego’s come into play. If you provide proof, that X is underpowered and they can replicate your test then you might garner attention. However, we must understand that Anet does not have the staffing to do what we need. If they did, they would have to charge 15$ a month to staff a team to handle class balance.
If you feel this is so egregious, then this is how you garner a result. You write them a professional letter explaining your position and you leave. You dont log back in, you dont visit a forum you just disappear.
If you played DAoC. Then you remember a guy by the name of Wyrd on the VN forums that posted a faked log with favoring statistics to get a beserker class nerfed. When it was found out the log was faked, the outcry of getting the class nerfed or major guilds and scores of players were canceling their accounts that Matt Firor (In charge of Elder Scrolls online and several members of Mythic) were forced to go to Jacobs (Mythic CEO) and that was the play that forced his hand. The patch was 1.62.
As I have said before, 100 nade will get nerfed because of this. When I did, people reported me for trolling and post was removed.
Glad to see I was right, stupidly named fad builds get nerfed first. Next up Tankcat. Mark it down, By June, tankcat will be gutted.
Just make sure that damage while stealthed makes the thief visible and a 4 second reuse timer on any stealth but an elite skill. If thieves have a stealth available for an elite skill, that should be their one counter, 240 seconds reusable 50% speed boost while stealthed but can not attack for duration of stealth.
I usually run over 2k condi damage, and I have smoldering on offhand pistol and traited for longer burns. I usually get about 6-8 ticks of burning which at 800+ isnt something overlook.
I have noticed my breadwinner is stacking all the dots I can. Bleeds, Poison, Burning. It is usually to much for people and they either flee or immediately burn a heal/Condi removal. I just reapply and watch them die slowly.
Entertaining read but the name “tank cat” is asinine Theorycraft all you want to, this build and 100’ nades of stupidity build has so many flaws and only works against less than intelligent players which flood WvWvW.
High Condition builds will make you regret life and the money speccing and gearing. My engineer has 2000+ condi damage. I eat stupid Tankcats who stick around, and don’t know when they are outgunned for breakfast, even two of you playing smart with overlapping Mag pull and two prybars. Elixir x >>melee.
Guardian anything (especially Norn) will embarrass you. For additional insult, Become the Bear/Leopard can and will make you rage.
Oh, look at that lone thief taking on 3-5 players. Let me walk over there and try to use prybar. Here is how that fight goes against an average thief and Ill give you the advantage of a sneak attack:
Engi: Mag Pull
Thief : Stealth
Engi: “Ill pop elixir B and counter the burst”
Thief: predictable noob, ill just wait.
Engi: He scared of me" /g Hey guize, this thief fears teh tankcat
Thief: <watching icon>constantly finding way to keep stealth up
Engi: Hes gone.
Thief:< retaliation is done>
Thief: <burst>
Engi: Hidden Flask
Thief: I forgot about the auto-elixir B, Ow, my daggers hurt, stealth
Engi: <what the heck just happened>Entire fight takes 28 seconds. Engineer looks to prybar more faces, and the thief goes off in search of easier kills.
A smart player picks his fights. How does your 2000+ condition damage do against a condition consuming/transfering necro? I moved away from my engi condi build because of such a scenario.
I stay away from them. I know i cant win, but i dont go around and brag about how bad I am with something that isnt to my advantage either.
I also stay away from smart thieves if I can watch them before hand. They can and usually make me look stupid because they avoid everything before I can react. That is their job.
We can go back and forth with the theorycraft battle situations to the cow comes home. You must be that unique snowflake engineer that makes everyone else look bead because you dont lose in any 1v1 fight over hours and hours of play. We should all just adjust and play just like you and for the help you have ‘bestowed’ on us, we should just join your youtube channel and give you money and fame.
Riiiiight. There are several thieves on DR and IoJ not to mention SoR/JQ/SoS that would love to say hello to you.
A D/D elementalist tried to gank me in WvW. He got many prybars to the face. My exotic-equiped tankcat never got below 60% health while the ele confused himself to death. His final attempt to escape was his undoing. He was so shocked to be schooled by an engi that he couldn’t gather his wits to mist form away. I tiny-dunked him…
He was a very bad d/d ele.

Entire fight takes 28 seconds.
Im not quite sure if there’s already a forum post for this…
but engis need an elite skill rework!!!Basically there’s only one skill that is useful (supply crate)
The mortar is actually more of a disatvantage if u use it in pvp.. using it has absolutely no point.
Same for the elexir x… why on earth would i use such a skill?!Compared to other classes (thief: Daggerstorm very strong, thieves guild very strong, basilisk venom very useful, Mesmer: Time warp extremely strong, moa strong… i could go on) it doesn’t seem very fair that the engi only has one real elite.
(and telling me that it depends on the build ur running… nah, it does NOT! the only viable elite is crate.
the 2 others need a complete rework.
I completely disagree as a human engineer. Elixir X can and has been a huge lifesaver for me on multiple occasions. I have used it as a zerg buster in small quarters with either the Juggernaut and especially the Tornado spamming 1.
Avatar is a great thing to use if you are running through a zerg with 22 seconds of stability?
I also use Hounds of Balthazar on those rare 1v1 and 1v2 fights in wvw. The dogs leaping ability gives you more time to land a barrage at range not to mention will intimidate a 2v1.
Grenth is great if you are running through a zerg with the Toolkit shield out. Great combo if you have haste up
I agree the mortar is lacking. It should be 1800-2000 range, damage increased 200% and able to hit keeps. It should also have an unmanned ability @ 25% reduced damage.
Supply crate. IT can be useful, but I never use it. I know it has a 2 second stun and drops turrets but people just destroy them before anything can happen.
Look up Tankcat engi build. You’re welcome.
Not directed at you Crate, but I feel builds that are named “Tankcat” and “100 nade” are absolutely ridiculous.
The way people flock to these named builds are asinine. The engineer is diverse enough that you can spec anyway you want. That “tankcat” build will get you killed in WvW. Play hypotheticals all you want to, but the build only works against the non-intelligent.
100 nade? that build is simple. Go 30 explosives, and get 20 tools. Stack power and precision. Now you have the build, so are engineers supposed to play homage to one random person on the interwebz that he published that build first?
As for my engineer, with 2500 ish power 2000+ condi damage (with full stack of corruption) this is another viable build and I specced 30 explosives, 30 firearms and 10 alchemy. What the name of it? I dont know. I know I didnt copy anyone else, because engineers always ask me “why dont you run tankcat/100 nade/ random build from x website”
Bleeds hit for about 170ish
Burns tick for 850+
Plenty of Power to either bomb or use the Juggernaut trait to boost Attack power up and just burn a zerg in a bottle neck.
I use the flamethrower on seiges to keep people off of doors and have plenty of toughness to take a few whacks to the face. 19789 HP to boot.
Reliance on weird sounding builds just because someone made a video is what hurts the majority of new players in a community. It doesn’t help them. What does, is encouraging people to try out new things to fit their play-styles, not forcing them to use a cookie cutter build that has more holes in it then a block of Swiss cheese.
Dadeluma on SBI
I refuse to listen to commanders with horrible tactics, and will encourage everyone around me to do the same. You show me a leader that is willing to admit they were wrong and change tactics, and actually listen to reason. People will follow that guy.
What if you’re the one who is wrong? Who decides whether a decision is right or wrong? If you don’t like the tactics or the leader just go do your own thing, go to a different borderland or something.
I usually do my own thing. However, most of the time early in the morning. There is not much action.
If Im wrong? If I was taking a numerically superior force and lose to a group half of my size without siege assist. No matter if you agree with me or not, that is wrong. Horrible tactics were used, plain and simple.
Who decides on who is right or wrong? simple. On SBI, it is whoever is the most popular or well known determines who is right.
@ Lebannen being you have mention this “When I was reported for not following a commanders orders, and when people decided to follow me instead of a commander I was reported. There was no foul language, there was not any animosity towards anyone. I was simply reported and warned because I did not follow the commanders lead and thereby “detrimentally impeding on others game play” Notice the quotations What was the result? we took Garrison. Wow, such a negative consequence! I have even had guild members of certain commander(s) message me and complain. Why? are they just attempting to placate me? doubtful.”
Then the easiest solution is to spend the gold and become a commander. I also play at night time when I make it on and never see these issues that you mention. The only issues I see if is players not listening to the commanders and build siege where it is tatically wasteful or where it wastes supply that is needed later in the cappng or defend of a keep/tower.
Honestly, what would spending the 100g accomplish? To get a nifty blue tag? No. I wont become one until I feel I have earned it. That is the core problem behind the commander system anyone can become one with 100g. You can buy the gems, or get people to donate it to you. Nothing earned. It is just a money sink right now in its current iteration.
I do not play at night, I play in the mornings only. This isnt a real military where Officers lead and NCO’s follow or risk jail time. Respect is earned, not given because you have 100g.

There is complaining about jumping puzzle that gives you siege to help your team in wvw but no complaining about those people who stand around merchants or crafting stations for hours? Wow.
I complain about that as well. My post are usually removed
