Scarlet's ultimate goal still unrevealed(?)

It’s something cheesy to say now – but the mursaat have been on my mind too.

As stated by Vorrp in “A Study in Scarlet”:
Vorpp: This is Synergetics Headmaster Omadd’s isolation module. A sylvari named Ceara went in; Scarlet came out. Vorpp: I reverse-engineered an image of Ceara’s aura patterns before and after. The schism is pronounced and dramatic.

This is what reminded me of the quest chain in Eye of the North including the facets and Lazarus.

I’ve been messing around with an anagram-generator already for the terms Ceara Scarlet and Briar just to see if there might be any hint – but lacking the time I couldn’t fine-tune the generator to get good results.

Mursaat would be cool and maybe they’re already tied to the inquest in some way yet to be revealed.
Would also do with the flame legion somehow as the titan-mursaat-destroyer-thing from GW1 and they were worshipping whoever had power.

Sylvari "probably" aren't dragon minions

  • The pale tree was planted about 250 years ago by a human later accompanied by a centaur – why do sylvari exclusively look like humans and not also like centaurs? (could have brought these races together once more)
  • the firstborn begin to spawn about 25 years before the game starts – why not earlier to have more time preparing the fight against the dragons? (how exactly did the pale tree get notice of the awakening of the elder dragons?)
  • there were 12 firstborn, but until now there are only 9 known by name – what is the secrect of the other three firstborn, where are they, why do the other firstborn not speak of them?
  • where is the mysterious cave that the seeds of the pale tree(s) come from and what happened to the other seeds? (how did Ronan manage to get past the plant-creatures guarding the cave and what did he know and never spoke of?)
  • who or what brought the seeds into this cave and for what purpose? – planning all these coincidences would have been nearly impossible
  • are the druids somehow connected to the seeds, the tree(s), the dream?
  • of what nature is the connection between the dream of dreams and the mists?
  • was it pure coincidence that just the first one of secondborn sylvari became the founder of the nightmare court?
  • what determines the character of any sylvari? – how do extreme-minded individuals such as Ceara come to life and oppose the pale tree and the whole sylvari-system?
  • why did she rename herself to Scarlet?

List Top 3 Things You Want Anet to Focus On

  1. optimize the engine of the game for (much) better performance
  2. balance all over the game (gear, damage, AI, rewards, …)
  3. improve possibilities to quickly play together for the fun like in GW1 (meetup with friends and just have a good time doing something together)

ANet's silence is why so many people leave.

Back in the good old days in GW1 there were the talks with Gaile Gray, the Arena.net-blog, the channel on youtube and good informed fansites.

I feel a great silence there now too and I fear it might have to do with NCSoft and therefore ANet are restricted in some ways they couldn’t even talk about.

I mean – the whole blog is not just written anymore but completely disappeared from the empty shell of ANets’ site.

Not even sure if the community managers are still active in fan-forums these days – have to check that.

Besides this, there are only very few tweets and it feels like FB and co are also not that well-managed iirc.
Even on this forum they are felt to be barely seen and the translations of the german site are somewhat behind the english one most of the time.

It would satisfy me if they would only say officially that they are busy on X and therefore has Y, Z, and the rest to wait until it’s finished.

I miss Gaile :/

Enthusiastic about the gaining levels?

It seems to me that the zones are not as iconic or unique as they were back in GW1.
The downleveling makes them challenging – right.
But on the other hand it’s just annoying if you got your character to let’s say 50 and visit a place (friend maybe) near to a starting area of another race.
You feel a little difference and the fights may be slightly easier but mostly it’s frustrating to complete a heart there with nearly the same hard work as if you were level 5 or so and get rewards that are tailored to this level.
Right – you had the same thing in GW1 in old Ascalon or Shing Jea Island – but it was more fun to kill masses of low level foes and get your feet through quickly instead of being worried to be killed by a bunch of lowbie-foes.
Travel-costs and downleveling are a bit of pain in the kitten , if you plan to level an alt for some hours of fun with friends in higher level areas or so.
I just have one character on 80 by now – haven’t played for a longer time and I recently looked forward to maybe come back to the game.
But what to do then?
My first one didn’t finish the PS – I guess I must go and kill Zaithan, but I need a group for this final step in MY story.
Some of my alts are around that steps with Trahearne and Orr and so on…I really disliked this part of the story and the maps.
And like some times before I am planning to reroll a Necromancer – but then it’s all starting over again!
Story is kind of crap, free roaming is kind of expensive, dangerous, boring and lacks of immersion.
LS forcing players to visit some places is crap too – so what really keeps some of you leveling more than let’s say two characters to 80 without getting like Scarlet?

Expansion Ideas!

I just want to more underwater exploration, to swim down into really dark places and see what things have been lost under the oceans, but they have neglected the underwater exploration and under water areas, by keeping them in shallow waterholes, rivers and ponds which inst much fun at all. make an expansion that covers more under water action, test player on there underwater survivability. i also want to get better scuba mask.

I hope for a full expansion under water (although I am not that used to all that swimming-stuff by now) to fight the DSD and his minions and to see the leviathan and such things.
Heck, there is a complete ocean out there that awaits us!
I refuse to fight the DSD on dry land.

Do people still want quests?

They just need to take care of the fact that you can do these things any time you like.
Like the missions back in GW1 and the personal story here…maybe a bit like the dungeons, but more suitable for a PUG.
After the first time I was kind of disappointed by the way the LS goes.
If you can play each day – no problems there…but if your life changes and you have only very little time to go on and play you’re also gong to miss a whole bunch of lore and story.

Quests were static for a static world and they gave a bit of security – as they wouldn’t vanish after a time without playing (normally)

I think they should go on with the LS and somehow integrate it in the existing PS – the rest is just okay with dailies, hearts and so on.

But somehow it is against the design-manifesto, which sounded very promising in the first place and made me fear that some morons burn down Tyria within a week ;-)

Hrmm, I think I see your point and I guess ANet should consider an additional way for players to get certain things in more than one or two ways that are mostly the same.
There is of course a kind of pressure to do all things on an event or in the LS – but only if you are a kind of collector.
I played the first game maybe since a month after release as far as EotN and never felt the need to get the FoW-armor or tormented weapons and such.
Even when they introduced the goodies within the Hall of Monuments i just didn’t care that i only got 30/50 points there.
I understand that other people feel that urge to define themselves through the achievements in some way and i accept these.
But nevertheless i think that ANet did an overall OK job with GW2 and i hope they’re going to tweak things a bit more in the direction of the original game, making it easier for non hardcore gamers to achieve similar things without too much grind or simply buying something in the shop.

[Theorycrafting] On sylvari corruption

it was proven if you go with Trahearne that he never had a Dream of Dreams experience.

I’ve been rereading that dialogue and I found this curious:

Amaranda the Lonesome: A distant shore—and darkness. A root, a cave…you. You are the seed. What Ronan knew and never told still lingers in the Dream.
Malyck: What does that mean?
Trahearne: It means my fears are well founded. You were not born of the Pale Tree, Malyck. We cannot see your Dream; you cannot see ours. I must return to the Grove and speak to the Pale Tree.

Trahearne could just be mistaken about him having a dream at all, but the name of this story step is also called “A Different Dream”.

If by Dream of Dreams you mean what our Pale Tree, our Sylvari, and the White Stag experience/interact with then that is true, if you mean a dream in general I think the above provides some evidence that they have a dream too. Though it may operate differently than our tree’s. Instead of offering pre-birth experiences it may just shield them.

This distant shore-thing again!
It also appears in GW1 quest in Eye of the North “The Path to Revelations”
final words spoken by the Ephemeral Spirit (after deciphering):
“An offering to those who seek”
“Beyond the mists beyond the dreams”
“On distant shores of a land unwaking”
“Answers there lie in waiting”

It also features dreams (possibly dream of dreams?)
And the quest-chain leading to this spirit is related with the facets of the gods, the eternal alchemy and also the Mursaat.
There is a connection between the Mursaat and Ronin for they killed his family and Ronin planted the seed of the Pale Tree (after finding it in a cave along with other seeds guarded by hostile plants)
So there is also the cave-connection and its hinted that Ronin knew something he never told, but this knowledge is still lingering in the dream.

In GW1 Ronin says:
“There was a time that I cursed this world for taking away everything that I had. But living here, I have come to understand that these memories, even those that are painful, are seeds of our identity. They shape our growth.”

Memories are the seeds of identity – Malyck is also called the seed – so it all seems to be related somehow and maybe it leads to something bigger.

I can’t put it all together right now and maybe its just nothing, but it flashed on my mind suddenly as I read the lines above.

On the talk page about Ronan there is a link to the origin of the word Ronin – a japanese term for a Warrior without a master (again someone on his own?!)

Thank you ArenaNet!

Reminds me of the people in GW1 complaining about almost everything.
Back there it was really ridiculous because most things were simply cosmetic.

Now with this LS-thingy they brought in the feeling that we had on events like wintersday and so on. Be there and get stuff, or miss it and don’t get new and shiny things.

But as far as I can see it there is no drawback if you can’t get your chars in there in time.
You simply just don’t get the items.
I am sure there will be good alternatives for these items to be achieved in other ways.
Sure with different – more common – looks but that’s no problem for me.

Only thing I am sad about is that I am going to miss a good bit of story here.
And its not only a bag of rice falling over in Cantha – its the awakening of another ED!

Now I have to read in forums and wikis to catch up before I log in next time and everybody is talking about Modremoth and having fancy new backpacks…
But this may not be an option for every player.
I guess not even everybody is willing to read through forum and wiki and thus is just missing a part of lore.

I always loved the lore behind GW1 and I do my best to be at least OK with the story of GW2, but its harder here, than it was back in GW1.
I guess it is the price for an open world and so on and after all I love GW2 too.

Thanks ANet and go on doing a good job with this game – it has much potential like the first GW and I believe you can improve it the way you did the first time.

100% World Map in Expansions?!

But remember how it worked in original Guild Wars with the introduction of Sorrows Furnace, which is – i guess – closest to this upcoming content-update in November.

It was indeed added before they came up with the titles iirc, but they changed the way the areas were counted.

Before this update, the PvP-Arenas were part of the world and after it, they didn’t count anymore (moved to the battle isles)
And in this case it’s similar i think – the lost shore is part of the actual map, so it would make no sense if it wouldn’t count for 100%

Maybe the wish for a new medal is mainly because right now you have to map WvW too and everyone who finished it fears that his title will lose it’s worth (for it’s going to be “easy mode”)?
