Nice work, Kor! Well done.
“Chaaaamberlaaaain….. LAY DOWN MY SCEPTER… RAAAAWWWRRRRR”
Trial by stone?
Um, that’s kinda why it’s called Mirage. Not a bug, part of design.
OK, so I’m sure many of you have seen the recent Reddit posts for Space Marines, Master Chief & even Cortana. So here’s my Engi’s fun little take on Samus Aran from the Metroid series.
enjoy!
This isn’t a bug. Spirit and Elemental versions of Exotics will not have these effects. They are only reserved for Legendaries.
Sure, I was being overly candid, and some players certainly have legitimate concerns.
Sometimes a stroke of luck can be change things (not limited to the game), and other times, it just takes a little more work.
These are some of the exciting things I’ve learned on these forums (and reddit, as well) since launch:
- If a person doesn’t drop a precursor – specifically the one they want in a timeframe they define – the game isn’t worth playing.
- Achievement points should dictate whether or not you deserve your precursor, since they are a true test of player skill and clearly cannot be facerolled by following some Dulfy guide to a T.
- A certain amount of hours should net you your precursor, specially if you spend enough of all that time in LA and/or the official forums rallying support for your cause.
- Everyone who does not have a legend believes everyone deserves to have one, once they have one they want it to be even harder for others to make.
- Grinding is the only way to get them and shouldn’t be part of it, as grinding clearly isn’t part of accomplishing anything in any other video games in history.
- Folks do not start their legendaries because they will not succumb to something that’s must only be RNG, and no other games have ever used RNG for any sort of drop/reward system. Ever.
- Crafting a legendary requires nothing short of mindless Cof p1 runs, or playing TradingPost Wars 2 and that’s not legendary.
- If a person doesn’t get/build legendary, it’s because ‘all legends are ugly anyway’
- Those who do have a legendary (or god forbid more than one) must always have a luck-tagged account, must be irl rich and flat out bought it, or need sunscreen because they have no lives.
- Once any of the above-mentioned ‘non-legendary’ methods of acquisitions is met, said legendary wielding player’s intent was ALWAYS and ONLY to troll everyone else who has not been fortunate enough (by Anet’s own direct doing, of course, and not sheer mathematical randomness) to drop their precursor.
- Many players have not or will not have finished their legends only because they have some problem of the effects or footfalls it has as a form of personal protest, but had no problems starting to work towards it to begin with.
- Legendaries are the ONLY reason to play the game. Otherwise, there is no fun to be had in playing the game at all & it’s time to quit.
- You CANNOT build a legendary by just playing the game as you wish long enough to save up for what you need.
- The legendary crafting system is flawed and clearly impossible, and must be changed as it’s game-breaking.
- It’s the mystic toilet’s fault that players loose upwards of 800-1900g+ trying to get a precursor.
- Saving 500-800g is impossible.
- Exotics are worthless.
- The legendary you may have is better than some other player’s stupid-looking legend.
- People are fools for wasting their time making underwater legendaries.
Extra Credit goes out to those who taught me:
- Commanders are needed in LA & Dungeons, and most importantly, roaming alone (or with 2 friends) in PvE.
- High Achievement points are necessary for any successful LFG pug run, otherwise it’s a complete catastrophe.
- The only professions that should post or join LFG’s are Zerker Warrs and Guards who must ping all Ascended trinkets and AR30+ for Cof p1. No questions asked.
- Skipping mobs and glitching dungeons/fractals are the ONLY way to beat them. If you do not know how to or wish to skip you are automatically kicked for not being ‘experienced’.
- No character under level 80 can ever finished a dungeon successfully in greens or blues.
- Achievements decide how you must play the game.
That’s strange. My experience is slightly different – When i use my #5 skill (ranger) the sound loops only like 6-8 times before stopping (as does the bobbing wolf statue), even on resheath it stops eventually.
There are a few rare instances though where it seems like it it howls forever, but it doesn’t really bother me. Even if the ‘endless loop’ (for some) might be addressed at some point, I must say it makes sense for the weapon to howl more than once.. even as it stands (again, speaking for rangers) if the loop was clipped to 4-5x instead of 6-8x it would be an improvement. The biggest issue with Rangers though is the little ghost wolf head… it rarely shows up in completed form -most of the times only up to the neck – on the #4 skill and almost never on the #5 skill. It seems like it has issues firing off along with the standard ranger #5 wolf graphic popup.
The footsteps are also not very noticable when i equip it solo, but i also use mainhand legends so I never get to see Howler’s anyway. Sometimes the sparkles also appear during the day (no moon though, as intended) – strange why it doesn’t sparkle all the time (and more noticably at that).
The aura is really nice tho, imo – please don’t change it!

sick set of legendaries. wish i have a full set on my guard ^^. now you go make a gs
Challenge Accepted Completed.
I like it as is honestly. It transforms from low-key to burninator. I say nay.
Apparently, the Marjory’s axe does the same thing and replaces the generic thrown axe.
Legendary effects & features should remain only on Legendaries, not store-bought weapons/armor, imo.
Bumpetty-bump for all ranger & mes skills to allow for Shark crit! We want equal-opportunity Risen Jaws action!!!
Perhaps maybe this has to do with a certain mix of graphic settings? Not saying it’s not a bug, as I’ve seen similar reports of it here and on reddit, but simply to isolate the ‘when it occurs’ factor that may help the devs zero in on what’s causing it.
I’ve had Kudzu for a very long time and have never seen this issue occur on my character on either of the 2 machines i play on (both a laptop on all medium settings and a desktop maxxed out on high settings). Similar to when some users see ‘Bolt’ under their feet like a surfboard, i’ve never had that occur either.
My goal – First Ranger in the world with all Legendary weapons that the class can equip.
Pretty sure this has been done by at least more than one ranger already. Perhaps not ‘documented forums first or YT first’ but I’ve definately seen at least one other on my server alone that was only the dagger pre away from all a few months ago and i can’t imagine he’s the only one.
Still, very nice collection, and good luck on finishing your goal! Is Kamo worth it on ranger after the updates?

Just as the title states, an option for the in-games clock on the minimap that would display local time as well as server time you might even wish to brand the server time with a little arenanet icon as a suffix to distinguish the two visually (i.e. 00:00PM [00:00PM @] )
Pretty simple, but easier for widespread or multinational guilds to do keep track of time for events.
I have mixed feelings about any more changes to it (having owned it since very early on). I think the end-to-end string now is better than the previously incomplete floating string. I do see your point, and while it would certainly be nice to have visible attachment points, similar to The Dreamer’s perhaps, i wouldn’t go as far as saying it takes away from it’s legendary feel. On the other hand though, anything else more flashy than the muted string (as is now) would severely detract from the balanced look of the bow itself, IMO. It’s just difficult, as the model itself doesn’t lend to actual attachment points.. perhaps maybe a sort of light-based string similar the Dreamthistle’s disappearing particles, but less bright & shiny? Or even a pulsing gold thread to match the Nymph’s highlights.
Personally, though i’m fine with it as is. There’s other legendaries that have more pressing issues (such as bugged or no effects) than a simple bowstring graphic.
Yesterday, I asked the citizens of LA to choose whether to craft Howler or Frenzy (had both gifts and pre’s), and they chose Howler.
Took a few shots in the Grove:
Came to a crossroad last night, still undecided. Either make Frenzy right now (all gifts + pre completed) or hold off and craft Howler instead as they share similar mats I’d need to acquire the pre, recipe for wolf statue, another 100 runestones and about 1/2 the ori if i went that route. Hmm… decisions, decisions. :$
Frostfang needs a trail, spinning whirl of ice would look epic
Not sure if you’re referring to a player aura or weapon trail. Perhaps on other professions it may only have a short trail when swung, but on Rangers, each of the #1-3 MH and #4 OH skills are projectile-based; all leave long, swirling ice trails along with a unique sound effect akin to freezing breath. (Skill #2 shoots a fan of 5 blades with trails as well). It’s pretty noticeable even in wvw zergs, IMO.
Congrats, and welcome to the club. A title would be nice, though I’m sure most of us didn’t do it for a title. I kinda dig rhapsody’s idea of 25AP per, (although even GW1 cheevos were 50AP per, if i’m not mistaken).
How’s about a custom aura or halo instead or a title? One can dream, right? ;D
The projectile that Frenzy now fires is a sort of miniature model of Frenzy itself, shortened to look more like a fish. Also, if you look closely, the fish Frenzy creates are also present on the projectiles it fires.
Does the Frenzy projectile completely replace all the Ranger’s default skill animations, like the cool #3 ‘Feeding Frenzy’ blood & bubbles on hit and #5 ‘Ink Blast’ smokey effect? Please tell me these animations still occur during combat.
That was a nicely crafted story of the triumph of a man, his bear and his 1500 longbow but overall bearbows are useless.
I can see how some folks would feel that way, but i wouldn’t go as fas as saying useless. I mean, that smiling bear pic above did bring you an ounce of joy, did it not? :p
Although there are no bears here, this goes to prove Bow Rangers can be quite the entertaining bunch:

enjoy!
A player (warrior) that was new to Arah (and normally as one might -nothing wrong here- kept downing throughout the dungeon while I ressed him during things like Wraithlord Crusher’s hammer swipe and Lupi’s Poison Bubble) asked me during the Lupi fight- “Your bears useless, why is he not even attacking?” – as he goes down again for the 5th or 6th time, (again, normal for a first timer) during phase 2. After ressing, him and 1 other yet again, all I had to do was ping [Protect Me] and [Signet of Stone] as we finished the fight. He got his tokens and everyone was happy, even thanked us afterwards for letting new players into the group he usually got kicked from.
Of course, since it LOOKS like the bear is doing nothing, it MUST be doing nothing, right?
Fact is, bears (or drakes) can be extremely useful any time when you need a quick spout of invulnerability (6 seconds, plus a few extra hits after due to their high toughness and vit) on tap. No different than [Endure Pain] or any other similar traits of warriors or guards, really – and I don’t recall too many people calling those other invulnerability-based traits useless, either. That’s not to say there aren’t players of all classes that don’t understand or know what they are doing well, but ‘instant kick (lol)’, really?
That said, I don’t always run Bears, but when I do.. I bring DOS OSOS!

Exotics are still perfectly fine for most content, honestly. Even more so from a cost-to-performance standpoint.
But make no mistake, legends are FAR more expensive than ascendeds all things considering, and not just due to precursors. It’s a lot of work for a single skin.
Another option is to leave auto-attack on (of off, based on your choice), but turn off melee assist in options instead. This will keep you from both ‘pushing’ the mob when stacking, well as allowing you to move more freely when auto attacking or spamming #1 skill, all while limiting the ‘snap to target’ feel that sword skills have. Works great in dungeons as it keeps you more mobile, IMO all while letting you keep the convenience of auto-attack for bows and axes, etc.
Give it a shot and see if it works for you.

Both Rodgort & [Legendary Collector] 5/5 completed late last night!
My ranger now has: Kudzu, The Dreamer, Bolt, Frostfang & Rodgort.

Here’s to Elonian Leather and Damask (and possibly Pristine Fractal Relics) that will hopefully bring us these four lovely words:
Ascended. Rune. of. Holding.
Yes, you can dual wield them. And no, they aren’t marked ‘unique’, so you wouldn’t need different stats. It’s no different than dual-wielding same type of legendaries (dagger/dagger or axe/axe), which is also possible.
Nope, no offhand effects on FF.
They look exactly the same as they did before (to me, at least)
As stated above, swords are very solid weapons for a ranger, once you get used to movement mechanics involved (though some may argue somewhat situational). They really came to shine once the patch that removed rooting came into play.
Lastly, there’s a fair share of rangers out there that also prefer using the sword with the melee assist option set to OFF, as it prevents certain enemies from being pushed back (useful when stacking).
About skins, get Infinite Light Imo best sword ever.
best ever?
(C’mon, I had to! ;p )

Great folks & great times – What’s not to like? =]
I think Anet should have foreseen this type of backlash and did something similar to twighlight/sunrise
Dreamer/Nightmare
Quip/Deringer
Kudzu/Bramble
Same general model, just darker versionsNightmare being fiery hell unicorns
Bramble being a dead thorny bloody version of Kudzu with a skeleton holding a spear
Deringer a gold and black pistol that drips blood from the barrel, instead of confetti there is a ton of black smoke that pours out.
This thought has also crossed my mind (and I’m sure others) several times – but honestly, the more I use my Kudzu and Dreamer, the more fun I have with the game. the colors in drearier areas like Orr are pretty dope. And who doesn’t like to go to WvW and smoke some fools with ponies and flowers. =D
New animation looks great! Really ‘diggin’ the speed now. :p
+1 ^^^^^^This.
Funny,I just crafted The Dreamer today, too (my 2nd legend, along Kudzu).
Grats & don’t let some of these posts get ya down, enjoy your hard work in style!
Those screenshots are bangin’ – nice work!
Barrage could definitely use the golden spears/flower trails treatment.
A golden aura to stylized to match the dryad accents the around the player would rock, too (The other Legends have fresh auras, why not Kudzu?)
The flower fall particles off the bow could arguably also be a little more prominent.
It also puzzles me that if other players can hear Bolt/Dreamer/Quip/Predator’s sounds, why can’t they hear Kudzu’s birdsong effects?
Attempted this path about 12-13 times – a couple of early learning runs were between 4-7 hours, all unsuccessful. Later runs not so long due to most groups deciding they didn’t want to continue. Usually have had at least 1-2 warriors. I don’t find the difficulty (using the word loosely) or fight mechanics themselves to be a factor, so much as team communication and coordination, and definitely think it’s doable.
— the skippable rant —
The more recent LFG-site pugs I’ve joined usually kick me outright for being a ranger (i never join the dps war/mes only listings) and the 2 times I’ve decided to host the party – after getting to Simin the exact same thing has happened – after the initial few team-harassing all-caps ragequitters at Simin, the replacement folks came in tried a few times and just vote-kicking me on my own run (seriously not cool) on the grounds that I mentioned i only had about another hour or so tops to keep trying (after the first 3 or so we were in there), even when i’m both dps’ing & and running top sparks quickly & without issue (other than occasional pet aggroing a spark). One of the guys who kicked me the first time it happened even went as far as whispering me the next day to ask me to get him and his friend through p4 to Simin so they could try again for their DM title as if nothing had happened – wanted/should’ve reported him, but I didn’t.
-- /end rant —
I actually enjoy running all the Arah paths, it’s one of the more beautifully detailed dungeons and some of the coolest bosses in the game IMO (though not a fan of Alphard – no matter how cool that name is), but I admit even simply getting a P4 run as a ranger together can sometimes get frustrating, let alone finishing it. I KNOW it’s possible, I’m certainly not at the point of griefing out of Simin yet.
Anyone care to give it a go with me?
Same here – Last night I picked up some Tier 3 Human Assassin Boots & transmuted them to see that the 3rd dyable patch isn’t sticking to the color I give it (along with game crashing behavior when unequipped/reequipped).
It seems to be happening with a select few of the armor sets, from what other related threads are saying, but glad to see it’s on the radar of upcoming fixes.
Have a question about Azureflame. I saw one picture with Azureflame when that bow shoots fire arrows. Its really true that Azureflame shoots arrows with fire effect or its just some skill effect?
No, it doesn’t shoot flaming arrows. It’s a Warrior Longbow skill that shoots a set of 3 flaming arrows. Similarly, the Thief also has a Shortbow skill that leaves whirling blue streaks.
“CITIZENS!!!” :p
The Quaggan pirate line was amazing for sure. The two that I hear often in LA that always make me smile are “By Ogden’s Hammer, what Savings!!” and the Skritt couple by the bank bridge talking about the sewer entrances “…people don’t go there, but I wanna live there”. (or any Skritt line, for that matter – totally dig the sneaky, skittish way they sound – very amusing.)
Strictly my opinion here – no disrespect or flaming intended. I realize it’s easy to ‘sound’ abrasive since it’s hard to get ‘tone’ out of text, but understand this is not my intention here.
It is of my view that (and i really hate this term, BTW) the sense of ‘entitlement’ seems to be coming from some (not all) folks who want one and don’t want to work for it. There are plenty of players that are using their time working towards theirs, regardless of difficulty, time constraints, RNG factors on certain items ,etc. and are not wasting that same time & effort complaining on forums. Instead, changing ‘work’ for some other term like ‘luck’ or ‘RNG’ to diminish the perceived difficulty and make themselves feel better it and gather support is simply rubbish crying. Yes it’s hard, we know. Next.
Everyone wants one. Why? Because their scarcity & difficulty make them desirable. If everyone gets to have one and you see them all day strapped on people’s backs at Lion’s Arch, no one would care to want one, no reason to even have Legendaries in the first place. If you don’t want to spend your time doing this particular set of quests in the game (and really that’s all it boils down to) then simply don’t. There are plenty of other awesome and very unique weapons (and Armor) that can be achieved, crafted, found or forged that in some ways rival some of the Legendaries.. so there are options.
Fact is, they aren’t ‘Average’ weapons, they’re ‘Legendary’. Period. You don’t just get a rockstar job, car, fake prestigious in-game item (or anything else for that matter) by simply asking for it, you grind till you get it, persistence & dedication (or a pocketful of change). Luck is involved in almost everything we do anyway. ‘Fair’ is different for everybody, and most things in life aren’t fair to begin with, so please lets refrain from making that an issue and focus on the actual work. I’m sure you’ve also encountered plenty of folks who work hard at things and never achieve recognition, status, etc. both in real world things and in game-related quests (hence the reason for this topic in the first place). Besides, the time spent on acquiring a Legendary is time spent playing the game you’re playing ANYWAY. And what’s wrong with playing a game you enjoy even more? It’s a goal like any other, just not a straightforward go-here-kill-this accomplishment. You think you have it hard? What about the first folks who had to figure out the recipes in the first place.. how much do you you think they spent in the throwing who knows what insane kind of money & items at the forge to get help other people get a easy-to-follow list and they STILL complain it’s not given to them on a platter just for gracing the game with their presence. Sorry, but I’ve never seen a game or race that ever congratulates & prizes the complainers, only those who have achieved & accomplished. Get online and play more – it’s more fun! You may even find some folks who will help you on your quest.
Hi,
First things first… awesome game – enjoying it very much!
One thing that would be nice to see would be a journal or bestiary of encountered enemies (perhaps tucked into it’s own panal within the ‘Hero’ menu). Basically a sort of compendium where a player could view an (possibly animated) enemy 3D model that he/she has already encountered (including bosses) and it would list some attributes of that particular enemy such as name, known attacks/defenses and the areas encountered. Furthermore it may also be broken down by ‘type’ of enemy with show/hide handles, similar to the crafting dialog’s known recipes list. One other suggestion may be that the ‘known attacks/defenses’ of a given enemy might not all be populated until a player encounters the enemy over several instances, in order to complete that particular creature’s journal entry.
This bestiary should ultimately serve 2 major purposes – the first being that it’s just plain fun to try to ‘collect them all!’ and have an ever-growing list of monsters to view & admire the details put into the characters that may not be easily apparent in quick-action fights.
Second, it would help players have a quick in-game reference to not only where to look for more of said enemy (say for possible loot/mats collection or otherwise) without having to temporarily interrupt or minimize the game and hitting the internet for the very same info already coded to the enemy, but give players a quick reminder spec/defend against previously encountered foes & bosses.
Hope this helps,
Keep up the awesome work Arenanet!

Hi,
It would be really helpful if players were able to see the count of ‘incoming’ mail messages not yet deliverable to them due to having a full mailbox. (or alternatively, a short help message reminding them if their inbox is full they would get no further mails).
This issue hits our guild members often, many of whom aren’t aware of max mail limit and tend to feel they’ve somehow lost any mailed items/gold.
Love the game, just feel this would surely benefit players without major changes.
Thanks Arenanet!
