This is ridiculous.
We’d also like to interrupt the collapse cast, but the C.R. has started chain-casting it. As soon as one collapse finishes, a few seconds later he casts the next one.
This is one of my big disappointments with GW2. In GW1 I took pride in being a good interrupt ranger. Interrupts in GW1 would put said skill you just interrupted on its full cool down where as in GW2 it does what, like a default 10 second cooldown if that? That’s if the target you are interrupting is even capable of being interrupted. Most of the time with bosses all you see is “Immune” or when it says “Interrupt” the mob still completes it’s action. C’mon Anet, what gives!?
no matter how fun it is, you will eventually get bored if there isn’t that rewarding feeling of seeing something great drop for you. The loot you receive is half of the addiction.
No. I mean, maybe you will, but I certainly won’t. Maybe that’s because I’m not addicted. People who are will keep playing no matter what (that’s kind of the definition of addiction), so catering to them is a waste. If gameplay is boring, no amount of bribing with “loot” will make me overlook that.
This isn’t a job, it’s a game. It’s what I do in my free time, for entertainment purposes. If someone is using his leisure time to suffer through unpleasant gameplay in exchange for some random virtual reward at the end, he’s doing “fun” wrong, and would probably enjoy himself a lot more doing something less sporadic.
There are no “drops” in most games I play (sports simulations, RTS games, FPS games, etc.); I play them because I enjoy playing. And that’s why I play MMORPGs too, and dungeons in particular. I like the challenge, the teamwork, the teasing, etc..
Having drops is fine, but if the game isn’t enjoyable without them, its gameplay needs to be improved.
I certainly don’t disagree with your point on making the gameplay more interesting. I feel you are wrong in thinking that that’s the only thing that will make the dungeon experience in GW2 rewarding. Again, go back to GW1’s Underworld and Fissure. It was a good balance. That is, if you have even played the original.
Something NEEDS to be done regarding loot imo. The perfect world will be fun gameplay with the added excitement of being rewarded with some worthwhile drops.
I don’t understand this mentality when it comes to GW2. I already have full exotics so what do I care what the drops are? I prefer the consistent rewards of currency and tokens that I can use to get whichever skins I want.
Well, don’t get me wrong. I’m excited if something valuable drops like a lodestone or an exotic. But you know, the reason they’re valuable is because they seldom drop.
Did you play D3 at all? They kept buffing the drop rates and the feedback remained “Drop rates suck” Well duh people, your drops are going to suck compared to the rest of the economy unless you put in top 1% grinding hours. It’s just how it works no matter what the drop rates are. Anything you’re excited about seeing drop is gonna be rare and valuable, and anything that you see drop often will not be exciting, nor will it be valuable.
I agree but my main point is that the loot drops in dungeons are out of scale with the rest of the content of the game. For instance, last night I played a 1 hour run in Fractals, level 2. I came back with 4 rares and 1 exotic. Last Friday night I played through several open world Orr evnts and came back with 3 rares and a lot of tier 5 crafting materials. Dungeon runs in their current state are never this profitable. Making the gameplay better isn’t going to be the be all end all for population at large. Rewards will need to be tweaked.

Resetting an instance while the players are inside it would result in a lot of lag for lower end systems (including disconnects), a lot of seemingly crazy teleporting (immersion-breaking), and a fair bit of time on ANet’s part to invest in the project. This is doable, and—if they added a loading screen to this process, which would be necessary to prevent hyper lag—so low priority that I’d rather they totally ignore this suggestion and work on other things.
Besides, most players need to leave after every explorable path to sell items anyway. If it reset automatically, they’d have to let it reset and then leave anyway to sell items, resulting in more load times/screens than before. The way it is works out.
Use a load screen just like Fractals does in between fractals and place a vendor inside every dungeon. No reason that a vendor can’t be placed inside them.
instead of only having the option to leave the dungeon you could just get an options asking if you want to restart the dungeon so you can do another path. when all in the party have accepted ( like fractal ) all start over from the start, as if you had re-entered the dungeon.
Exactly! That’s a great idea!
I’ll investigate into this. I didn’t build those myself so I can’t say for certain.
Edit: investigating inconsistencies between all dungeon reward armor/weapons
While you are at it, can you please find out when the AC ghastly bows will be fixed? Out of all of the AC weapons, the two bows are the ONLY weapons that still do not glow.
Why are we forced to exit dungeons after completing an explorable path in order to start a new path?
This is an absolutely ridiculous mechanic that I don’t understand why was put in the game in the first place. You start an explorable path inside the dungeon via a “camp” of NPCs, you finish that path, but instead of returning to the NPCs to start an additional path, you all have to exit the dungeon and reenter to start the next path. This detracts from the experience and is nothing but a hassle.
This is especially ridiculous with dungeons whose entrance must be opened via group events. CoF for example. If you, as a team, fought your way through the events that opened the dungeon, you should not be forced to exit the dungeon after completing your first path just to re-open the same entrance to the dungeon you were just in just to start an new path. A group should be able to simply stay inside and return to the NPCs to start a new path.
As a casual player, I feel that loot drops in general in dungeons are horrible and make dungeons an absolute waste of time.
Although I agree dungeon loot is a bit messy and boring (there should be more interesting and unique items dropping in dungeons, like mini-pets resembling the bosses, themed armour and town clothes, etc.), I don’t think that focusing on the loot is a good idea.
If a dungeon is well-designed and fun, people will enjoy playing it even if they get no “loot”. Increasing the amount of gold or items that players get should never be a valid replacement for improving the gameplay; that was precisely the kind of design attitude that led to the decline of certain MMORPGs. It might appeal to number grinders but in the long run it makes the game lose its core RPG player base.
The dungeons in GW2 need better gameplay. The drops are a separate issue, that is more related to crafting, the game economy, etc., than it is to the actual dungeon design.
I agree to your point that the dungeons need better gameplay but I still stand by my argument that the rewards need to be much better as well. Take for example Underworld and Fissure of Woe in the original GW. Those were challenging, fun, yet rewarding dungeon experiences that yielded good loot that could only be obtained there (Obsidian and Ectos, Obsidian’s Edge, Chaos Axes / Shields, etc.). Challenging gameplay is part of the equation but no matter how fun it is, you will eventually get bored if there isn’t that rewarding feeling of seeing something great drop for you. The loot you receive is half of the addiction.
In short, dungeons need both challenging / better gameplay and at the same time better loot.
As a casual player, I feel that loot drops in general in dungeons are horrible and make dungeons an absolute waste of time. Mobs that take 4-5 times longer to take down than regular mobs consistently drop trash. Then perfectly executing an incredible boss fight as a team (take Kohler for example) rewards me with a chest that consistently drops nothing but blues for me. I never get rares as drops in dungeons, much less exotics. You created dungeons to be the hardest content in the game, why have you given them the worst drop rates? I think it’s completely broken when it is more profitable for you to play mindlessly in Orr’s events while never even coming close to dying than it is to test your mettle in a dungeon. I can play for an hour in Orr and come back with crafting materials galore and 3-4 rares.
The only worthwhile rewards in dungeons are tokens. Oh yeah, let’s talk about tokens… So I finally grinded out the tokens to purchase the ghastly shortbow from AC only to find the d@mn thing is bugged and doesn’t glow!? It’s still broken to this day!?
I’m seriously disappointed in the current state of dungeons.

By nature a spirit is not living anyway. Why would they give us a spirit that only has a % chance to even benefit us, and then turn around and make it so it can be killed like its some little white bunny? Spirits are not living beings… they should last their duration.
I like this.
Warrior banners are invincible as well and can be moved by default. Their AoE is smaller though.
The GW2LFG site listed above is a handy tool, but we are working on something internally to improve and upgrade our group tool.
Please don’t make it a separate chat channel like you did for trade chat in GW1. The updated Party menu worked ok in GW1 but we definitely need something more comprehensive here in GW2.
I can confirm that we do have a bug on this issue, but I don’t have a estimate of when it will be fixed yet. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
Yet another patch but still no fix on this…
!?
If that was the case then why didnt Anet give 50% off on the keys that was already in the shop, instead of creating a new cash shop item in the form of a new bunch of keys and try pulling wool over players eyes. A bunch of 5 keys was always 450 gems 1 key was always 125, so why not give 50% off on those items? instead of trying to force players to part with more cash than they really need to.
Seriously?
Agreed.
Anet, I’d actually give you $20 cash right now to purchase gems if I could I buy a 5 pack of keys at 50% which would leave me money to buy some transmute stones as well…

Is this ever going to get fixed!?
and adding exclamation points to the beginning and end of a url does not diplay the picture in forums…
Duelist armor has a red line down the center of it no matter what color it is dyed:
My ghastly shortbow NEVER glows !!!
(edited by Loggahead.5402)
Pleaes fix the ghastly bows! Mine NEVER glows while in use and occasionally glows on my back but as soon as I start attacking it stops glowing.
The Ghastly Shortbow acquired through the Ascalonian Catacombs Dungeon reward NPC (Historian Symon) at Lions Arch has a bug.
The texture that is meant to appear during the night doesn’t display once the weapon has been fired. If the weapon is replaced and then re-equipped the animation and texture re-appears, but then disappears once the above is repeated.
Here is a link to the weapon: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ghastly_Shortbow
Here are some screenshots:
I have this same problem with the ghastly shortbow I dropped 390 tears on. Little did I know that the bows are the only weapons still bugged!? Jeez. How does this kind of thing pass unnoticed throuhg Q&A?
Can you give us an idea when it will be fixed?
I just bought a ghastly shortbow yesterday and it does this same thing. Sometimes it glows on my back but never while in my hands. I can definitely say that I am very disappointed that this is bugged.
Has there been any response from Anet on fixing it?
I would not purchase them from the gem store. I like that the skins are prestigious and show a huge amount of dedication to obtain. Obsidian armor from GW1 ring a bell?
If people could just throw money at a skin and purchase it (sure I guess you can do that still by converting gold to gems and purchasing the mats), it would cheapen the value of the skin and take away all of its prestige.

We are now up to 170 members and are still looking for likeminded mates. Feel free to visit our FAQ/Application thread above for a list of our officer’s to PM in game for an invite.
A fix for part b) is in the works. This should also help mitigate the issues of part c) since you won’t have to mash F2 so much, though I am also aware of this issue.
Part a) varies depending on each pet, so perhaps a list of the ones that are particularly troublesome could help to get them looked at =)
I’ve noticed that the fern wolf is particularly troublesome with activating its skill as is the rainbow jellyfish.

Quick Notes: 170 members strong, casual, friendly, helpful
Smoke & Fire [US – EST/CST, Borlis Pass] is a PVEverything guild which was formed when Guild Wars: Prophecies first released back in 2005. The Smoke & Fire was born out of the frustrations we found at the time when the majority of guilds were stuck on major power trips, took themselves WAY too seriously, and boasted lofty time commitments. SaF was kind of our way of giving them the finger so to speak. Our motto has always been “No Reqs, No Worries!”
We strive for a laid back, helpful, yet casual atmosphere. We have found that being married, having kids, having full time careers, etc. etc. fill our lives with more than enough drama to go around and the last place we want more of it is in an online game!
Across the last 7 years, we have forged some strong friendships, “grew up” together, and watched each other start families, etc. Now we are looking forward to the next chapter of SaF and have stoked the flames for GW2! We have set up some new forums and voice chat in preparation and would love to meet some new like-minded mates who are looking for a quality, long-term community.
We are now at over160 members in game and look forward to finding more likeminded mates! If you are looking for a helpful, mature, yet casual GW2 experience, visit us @: http://smokefireguild.com
