ESO engine was based off of SWTOR, they could have made ESO graphic really great, but because they were going to make ESO a multi platform game they had to dumb down the graphics so the cheap console boys can play it!

Its an MMO. It has very good graphics by MMO standards. Want single player quality graphics? Play single player games.

here are 10 reasons why ESO sucks

QUEOTE from an expert ESO PLAYER

That is not an expert ESO player. Just some random dude on steam forums pulling stuff out of his butt in 2013:

Why are you even quoting this?? Its a post by a Skyrim fanboy crying that ESO is not Skyrim 2. Half of this is bullkitten, half of it is irrelevant since its a complaint that an MMO is an MMO.

4. More unique races, please. I’m not a big fan of playing a charr myself, but I do love seeing them around. But human, nord and sylvari? We have five races, and three of them are human? (well, human-ish.) I would prefer only four races, with charr, asura, human and a very-not-human fourth race. Make each race unique. Right now I can’t really be bothered picking between human or nord, as they are the same race. Even sylvari are just humans with a weird haircut.

Dont mind the sylvari but I really wish they went with Kodan instead of Nords.

I would like a virtual reality MMORPG, so maybe GW3 can incorporate that technology? What with all the Occulus rift and whatnot.

With all those VR sets being developed I keep wondering… How quickly will your eyesight deteriorate due to hours of staring at flat surfaces placed an inch or 2 in front of your eyes. I supect the damage will be massive.

those pictures are not bad:) well I got go to sleep and thx for the pictures, by the way is that your character in those pictures?

Yes its my character. The problem that the game has is that it needs higher contrast and sharpness. The values used by ESO’s engine make stuff look a bit blurred and bland. Luckily you can fix that with some dll injector magic. SweetFX works great.

I never played guild war 1 so I wouldn’t know, But i did play Elder Scroll Online. I can say ESO failed because they didn’t have any really good endgame content. For example the dungeons are hard very hard, but after you beat it you dont get level appropriate reward! Another problem with the game is the class is too diverse for its own good, it might look fun on paper but in reality when you give so much choices to the player it creates unreasonable complications, and only the most elite of players can properly navigate through the maze and find the optimum build! there are so many other things wrong with ESO that I wont go over and off course graphic is very bad!

Huh? The visuals in ESO are pretty darn good. The wide range of choices for building your character is also an advantage. If you feel like youre lost just read up a bit. The endgame content complaint however is perfectly valid.

How about some more stuff in between for people who are serious about the game but not certifiable?

Something like ascended weapons, maybe?

I said more stuff. I didnt say there’s nothing there. Also, its pretty much the same process as with legendary weapons only on a (much) smaller scale. Not very entertaining.

Grumpy casuals need to stop trying to take the “legendary” out of Legendary gear. I’m a pretty casual player and I don’t go for legendary gear because…I’m a casual player.

There’s nothing wrong with not having the same things or as many things as the people who play the game a ton. You’re perfectly fine with exotic. I’ve gotten to the point where I can sometimes make an ascended weapon here or there but mostly I’m just dominating the game with exotics on all my alts.

Do I sometimes think about trying to get a legendary? Yes. Definitely
Do I get angry when I realize it would take way too much time or energy? No. Absolutely not.

= Give up on Legendaries if you don’t want to put the time or gold into getting them. = They are just weapon skins with a bit of convenience tacked on. You’ll enjoy the game a lot more doing things that are actually fun.

Thing is there is not enough between the casual rewards and the insurmountable wall that is legendary gear acquisition (armors soon to come). Theres stuff thats easily obtainable and then theres the monumental kittenblock of legendary equipment. How about some more stuff in between for people who are serious about the game but not certifiable? :P Or at least make obtaining the legendary an enjoyable process not a chore. After all its a game.

Because he doesnt consider working for this target to be an entertaining ‘journey’ but rather a prolonged visit to a labour camp.

Fair enough, but then playing a RPG feels a bit of a misplaced choice in games. There’s plenty genres in which no progression exists, as much as that has spread. Fighting games come to mind, or MOBAs, which only have momentary progression.

Are you trying to tell me there are no RPGs where the journey is actually enjoyable? That just isnt true. Also MMOs/RPGs usually have a curve type progression. GW2 is probably the only MMO I know that has a flat line suddenly turning into a vertical wall type of progression.

But legendaries don’t have better stats, so it’s not an issue of progression. It’s an issue of it being a long-term goal and a status symbol.

However, when there are two routes to this and one is out of whack with respect to the other, then that is cause for concern and the topic of this thread. (Mind you, I believe it’s not as kittenome think, but I think it’s at least worth discussing.)

In short, the nature of gear progression in GW2 is a different thread, not this one.

Well, I think visual progression is still a form of progression especially in GW2 (also the issue affects ascended gear to a degree too). Soon youll have a whole set of legendary armor to grind for… and Im sure they’ll call it an adventurous journey once again just because theyve added an UI window with a few icons to the game. Its a cheap excuse for content. How about some quests? Some exploring? How about some challenges? Nope… itll be ‘gather 50k of this and craft 300 of that’.

How is it unfair? they got a bunch of freebies with it. They got what they paid for lol

Why dont you buy it for 2k then? Youll get a bunch of freebies too.

And theyre not freebies. For many theyre the ‘I like the outfit so much that Im willing to pay tripple for it as I dont want or need the other stuff’ tax.

Everyone thought that WoW was going to get taken out by a competitor.
In the end, it simply committed suicide as soon as the first full-Activision xpac [Warlords of Draenor] came out. I’m sure as heck not touching Legion unless I want those demon wings for my D3 character from the deluxe edition.

Just because youre not going to touch it doesnt mean it commited suicide. The problem is not so much WoD as an expansion as it is the fact once again the players are left for months without new stuff at the end of it.

But thats fine. Keep in mind people’s attitude to WoW changed a bit over the years. For many its no longer a game they play constantly. Instead its a game they love going back to with each new big instalment of content. A lot are actually quite hyped for Legion. Ill certainly spend 2-3 months on it.

If they add mounts, they need to add realisism where you need to pay for a stable, vet care, food and water. Be a good gold sink or tradeable with other players. Don’t want to gather food for your mount? Pay for it or log in one day and it’s dead.

Theyd make it cost so much youd need to buy gems to be able to afford it.

The genre itself still has the most potential out of any videogame thing anywhere.

Not from the business point of view. The investment needed to make an MMO is massive, the chance of financial success is rather low. Its much safer to make tight little games like Hearthstone or Overwatch at a fraction of an MMO budget and reap rewards comparable to what successful massively multiplayer games have earned. Developers and publishers see that and act accordingly.

And honestly it boggles why they not just implemented traditional quest for this. Those quest could send you on epic challenges to get the items you need. That would in total be a epic journey to get your precursor. Colin even said in the stream that quest would be better suited for this then events.. so they came up with collections. No wonder that for many it does not feel much as an epic journey. If you acknowledge that traditional quest very well suited for these things then implement them instead of being stubborn about it and doing anything in your power to work around quests.

Reading all this I recalled vanilla WoW and the hunter class quest for the epic bow. You got the quest from the second to last boss in Molten Core, WoWs first raid instance (which meant it was RARE… but that is not the part they got right). Once you had it you had to defeat 4 demons which were desinged to test your skills at playing the class. And these were actually difficult bosses with some nifty mechanics. Each spawned in a different location and you had to solo them within a limited time or they despawned for several hours (also despawned when someone helped you). I remember how much I enjoyed it. Took me a week or two to get them all down but it was a challenge and an adventure. It was exciting. You usually even had a crowd of spectators from both factions cheering you on (and surprisingly rarely being kittens and screwing up your attempts).

Hi all,

I started playing less than a month ago, and mesmer really caught my eye is a “flashy” way to play the game, but it never really stuck with me because A) it felt slow and B ) there seemed to be a glaring flaw in the clone/phantasm mechanic.

That glaring flaw seems to be that while phantasms can dish out 60% of your damage, as soon as your current target dies, they go bye bye. Doesn’t matter if there are 3 other mooks in your face, they will skedaddle as soon as your current target is dead. I’m not sure if that’s intentional or some kind of bug caused by my targeting settings in the game UI.

Dont put all your illusions on one target, use utility skills/swap between weapons to get more of them.

I hope people wise up to this eventually. Instead of having players lose nearly every time they spend money, have them win.

This! Couldnt agree more. Design a bunch of cool looking armor skins and put them in the cash shop (just not the gingebread/my little pony kind of garbage). Guaranteed profit. Guaranteed paying customers who dont feel they got screwed.

Meanwhile, players who play games – you know, who play to have fun – are loving Guild Wars 2. Don’t believe me? How many end of year awards the game got again?

If you are after a finely tuned PvE MMO with lots of teamwork etc then no, this is not for you.

I’m pretty sure he’ll fail arah, or 20+ fractals. Maybe you would too. Because the game REQUIRES strong teamwork to pass it. Having max level and best gear means absolutely nothing in there

Ill agree on Lupi somewhat, but 20+ fractals are easily puggable without a lot of ‘i do this you do that and in case this happens bob here will do that other thing’. 1 or 2 challenging fights in the entire game… I wouldnt call that a finely tuned MMO with focus on teamwork.

I wouldnt call GW2 a waste of money tho. Its fun but it has its limitations. If you play 5-6h daily youll be out of things to do in 2-3 months (that includes getting a few alts to 80). You wont find complex, challenging boss encounters for more than 5 players here either.
