I think people underestimate the current mesmer. I am a thief main since 3 years and fought many great mesmers, some of them were playing in a few esl tournaments.
With the elite spec of mesmer, I think the thief buffs aren’t as ‘OP’ as people say.
You still have alicrity to reduce your cooldowns of your offensive/defensive skills, we have a rng based reset ;p
I mean it was about time thief saw some light again, but people were obviosuly going to cry about it, because this meta made people really lazy to think.
I’m just in general happy that the game picks up a faster meta again. Everything is better than the current meta.
The amount of crying in this thread is lovely. Finally, the bunker/condi bs is hopefully gonna stop being so dominant and we get a faster game again.
This is not a bug. The duration of your quickness simply stops in the middle and the animation begins ‘traveling’ again with the normal speed. Just check for the little yellow orb at your hand, this is the actual stomp, not your character animation.
How do you expectthose new players could get better in this game if everybody will throw up the game? And the other thing, if will stuck in emerald , then probably you are one of them.
That’s why custom arenas are still there.
Well, there simply isn’t a correct answer. I’m a sworn Thief player for over 2 1/2 years now and it feels exactly the same as you do right now. You have to pull ridiculous kitten in order to do anything. Or you can just dodge and vault spam all day, which apparently has some effect.
It got to the point I stopped playing, I tried to, but it just feels so awful, at least compared to what it used to be pre HoT or even pre big patch last year.
The only thing you can hope for is that, ANet finally begins to turn the game around again and follow their actual goals they’ve set themselves as they started to make GW2 big. Maybe the massie outcry will wake them up eventually.
Just pls, get over it. Eventually people would have been at the same point as you were maybe a week ago. You were never anything special and you’ll be nothing special, at least in that regard.
(And yes, I could’ve finished daredevil in like a day, but do I feel good about it? No. Why? It’s nothing special.)
People have done the content, left or just stopped playing regulary because it was indeed a little too much and even anet themself, as they mentioned in the blog, didn’t like it either.
This may all sound a bit harsh, don’t misunderstand me, but the crying about the ones who cried, is getting actually more annoying than the ‘old’ ones, it was anets decision, now please, leave this subject alone.
250 means one HoT HP Challenge on top of full HP complete from core Tyria. For those of us who have done that in core Tyria, I like it. For those who instalevel a new character, it would now take 7 HoT HP Challenges Vs 10 if they don’t go back to core Tyria.
It’s … fairish. This was becoming a thorn, so to speak, in the side of the expansion launch. But for the love of the six Gods don’t back off the Mastery system.
Actually, you have to spend all those hero points in everything else, BEFORE you even have the chance to unlock the elite spec and start training it. So, no, it doesn’t take 7 hp challenges.
Patch will roll out soon, though no specific date.
Most complains aren’t even about the difficulty LOL. The difficulty is more than fine, and if you really can’t get along with it, play some PvP custom matches and train your movements/rotations etc. That’s at least how I learned to fight and the new maps are actually no real challenge at all, although it’s much more fun as you get alot more conditions on you and cc.
I can’t even start to understand people that actually are against that change. Those people that unlocked it in 14 hours or a few days and are bragging about it, have done actually less work than most new players will do. Which is also no accomplishment if you did in 14 hours or a few days, because as many say: ’It’s not actually as challenging as people say’ So where is the accomplishment in it then if it’s no challenge?
I for myself would have needed only 1-2 days on my thief to unlock it, because I got a kickstart from playing 2 years only Thief.
But since Daredevil doesn’t appeal to me as much as Reaper, I switched. Didn’t even have enough points to unlock the spec (the 60 in the beginning) and had to repeatedly do the same events, just to learn things to get to hero points. Which, to be honest, wasn’t all to bad, but I felt very frustrated at some points and just logged off.
Now with the 250 points only, I’ll actually get the Reaper fully unlocked once the patch comes out. (Being at roughly 65% now). And my god will this change alot of things in terms of fun.
And there’s still the usual challenge, which are the new mobs, soon raids and higher fractal levels. I really don’t get this huge arguement about the change. It’s stupid.
So, thank you ArenaNet.
This build doesn’t really fit with GS. In general the GS is a slow, but hard hitting weapon which does best at finishing people/pressuring people, so basically a power necro would do much better.
I’d say the Reaper in general is better suited for a very offensive build, if you want to go for a mixed build, I’d just stick to DS.
I can only speak for myself. I will always stay true to my roots, which is Thief. Been playing it almost non-stop since I started playing gw2. It’s a fun class, it’s still strong in good hands and feels out of all classes the best (IMO).
But Thief gets pretty much no attention on stuff that has been a problem for years, or more recent stuff, like the 10% heal increase that was promised on withdraw – hasn’t been done yet.
And with the extremely underwhelming daredevil, which probably will not be any better when HoT launches, the state of thief is quite questionable. In my case, I’ll not replace any traitline with the daredevil one. Once a D/P, always a D/P! If you get hooked once, it’s hard to get away from it.
That’s all I have to say, with over 3.2k hours on Thief alone out of my 3.5k hours over all
I’m still enjoying myself alot with Thief.
For people who haven’t seen the changes shown on Twitchcon:
Thief
Thief Pistol getting damage buffs – 20%+
Potent Poison – Poison damage increase going from 10% to 33%.
Vigorous Recovery – Vigor duration going from 5s to 7s.
Expeditious Dodger – Getting a 100% duration buff from 2s of swiftness to 4s
At least ele gets kittened, it’s something.

So does it mean, that my ascended drop from PvP isn’t going to be in my wardrobe, even after launch?
Give me rifle..
If only the elite spec were rifle.. There would at least be nothing to kitten up, at least not much, considering it’s still anet.
He previously gave you the Diamond Skin trait. I’d assume that he swithced earth out and gave you other traits. It’s absolutely Diamond Skin and as he said full nomad, so there was no way you could beat him, at least alone.
