you are not the only one. i havent played the game in over 6 months. i just got so frustrated with it because my character keeps dying from just a single enemy. killing one of them has become a nightmare. i had none of these issues in GW2 it self. hell, i could even fight off enemies who were 4 levels higher than me and i still managed well. but with this addition; not possible.
it has some things i like like the gliding and new areas but playwise, it was a huge step backwards that just prevents me from exploring without stepping on enemies every 20m.
i came here to see if things may have changed. looks like it hasnt.

In VB you can solo all but 3 of them if memory serves and there are ALWAYS people in map chat who are doing those. Look at the guide on dulfy.net.

Level doesn’t mean your gear is any good. Are you wearing rare/exotic gear or fine/masterwork? Rangers are absolutely fine in HoT maps, consider changing your build by looking at a site like metabattle.com

More than happy to take people round VB if I’m on. I regularly see (non-guild) trains in mapchat or join a guild and get people to take you round.
You will need gliding, mushrooms and wallows so work on those for the best map experience.

my armor is a mix of both. i got the best i could get with the amount of money i have and suitable for my level/class. i can only wear medium armor so i dont know if this is an issue. im still not 100% familiar with MMOs and this game.

its just that in the main game it didnt feel so difficult to fight off a bunch of enemies, hell, even i had hardly issues with enemies who were 4 levels higher than me and i still could defeat them but with HOT already a single one is hard to defeat. also getting the bar filled up takes ages. exploring was rewarding, fighting off enemies as well. but with this one its rather frustrating and discouraging. it hardly fills up and feels like a chore to do them.

i just played before, trying to explore areas i havent been too. this one map was just packed with enemies that i could hardly traverse two steps without facing one.
i feel discouraged and frustrated to even continue playing HOT. traversing is a nightmare, unrewarding and facing enemies is not fun if they can kill you so quickly and you can hardly do any damage to them. just alone unlocking the gliding and mushroom was a pain because of the very level up.
unless i really miss out on something here but for now, i dont want to play HOT anymore

agreed. also it feels like you hardly get anything. even for exploring. so i also have hardly any of the skills to move to different areas.
i have just played before and just felt out of place because of the missing skills that take ages to get. and other reasons too like i die so quickly now from nearly every enemy i encounter. traversing through the maps is nearly impossible to explore without getting killed by one of them.

i already have reached level 80 and all my gear im wearing are level 80, so as my weapons. im a ranger in class and can only wear medium armor but still; in the main game i could run where ever i want and dont have to worry too much about enemies being over powered. unless there are too many of them, then its obvious i lose.
now in this version so many are hard to defeat that it hinders me to explore because just one enemy can kill me. also it takes a bit of time to reach the next level, just to train your self to use some items. levels are all nicely done but the enemies are just too over powered. not suited for my class.

i hope some changes will come. i love this game and its still my first MMO i have ever played. but this now, is a turn off.

after a long time of playing, its finally is full and i could unlock the gliding, which also unlocked the story mission.

You have to fill up your XP(Mastery Training) bar, before you can spend your Mastery Point(s). Once you spend Mastery Point(s), your number will increase (by the amount of Mastery Points spent).

the weird thing is, that i have a point available but i cant use it. below it i have 5 points and can only select one of three to be trained but still have 5 points available but cannot put them somewhere.

You need to do the first bit of personal story in HoT. Basically activate the story in your Hero Panel then follow the green stars starting at Red fort in SW. When you’ve done the first chapter you will be at the east end of Verdant Brink and will have one HoT mastery point. Click on the little square at the right end of the XP bar to open your Mastery panel. Click on the Gliding trait line to make sure you are training that.

Then do events/exploration in VB until your xp bar fills up. When it is full, click on the little square at the end again, and click on the right end of the Gliding mastery line. It will ask if you want to spend your mastery point on it, say yes.

You will now have gliding and will automatically glide if you hold your space bar down when you jump off something. You will also have a “1” by your name to show you have spent one mastery point. That number will go up as you gain more mastery points and spend them. If you train a mastery tier that needs 8 mastery points, then you will have a jump of 8 in your number.

this has opened my hero menu and i was indeed able to select few things my character can train but the number still hasnt increased. i know i have finished the first chapter because the game rewarded me for it and got the achievement.
am i still missing something?

didnt know that there will be another expansion coming out. also havent played the game in a years. just started few days ago. havent even completed the main story yet. was too busy exploring the maps.
but it did switch over my entire character and her abilities, weapons, etc. the only difference i have noticed is the leveling system. it looks a bit different and also showed me 0 again. only for the amount of time i have played i should be level 3 but the number still hasnt changed. so i dont know what is going on there. i have seen other players who are over 135.
i know that in the main game i was already level 80 and since then it never went up again, now im 0 after starting HoT and no increasing number. i must be missing something here. also i see other players flying. havent worked it out yet how this works.

i have looked up if itunes has it and they sure do. 27 songs are in it. for the main game they dont have it but for this one they do.

sorry for asking this silly question here, but i expected some kind of mark/symbol or just anything to indicate on the map about the this extension.

guess i have to do that. because firefox is open all the time as well but nothing happens. i even tried to purchase the extension pack through the game but the result was the same. had to purchase directly from the site.

i have firefox set as my default. and paypal had never an issue to load up on it. thats how i purchase stuff from other sites as well, like ebay.
if paypal should pop up, then it goes directly in to it were i just have to enter my password, but here, nothing happens. just drops out and thats it.

i have decided to purchase some stuff from the store. i have followed the steps it wants me to take and as soon i click on the “proceed to paypal”, it drops me off on my desktop and thats it. no broweser, nothing opens up to paypal.

thats how it looks. also i am not even able to change the colour of my armor. i used to have as red as the pants.
ingame i have this armor on but in the menu i have my old one on. and now all of a sudden i have to pay to switch clothing? that wasnt requested the last time i have played.
i did figure out that i can right click on the armor, for some reason i have 2, the one you see in the pic, and then the one i actually had on before i got this new armor. i also unequipped it that my character was topless in the menu, but in the game she was still wearing this new armor.

Sounds like you’re wearing the Royal Guard outfit, which was given to veteran players last year. Go to Outfits in the Hero panel, and untick the outfit, and your armour should reappear.

thats the one, yes. i did that but then my character was topless. i try to upload a pic if it helps. at the moments its doing an update which i like to finish off first.

thanks for the link danikat. this does explain far more. also good to hear i dont have to worry about changing my coats without losing of my armor and all that. and yes, thats in the wardrobe.
i now understand (i hope) the difference between equip and wardrobe. this time i was bale to select my mask and wear it.

thats what i did. i pressed H but that new mask is not there. also pressed the “hero” icon on the top left corner. i guess i will never understand this new option of the wardrobe. wish it would be just like it was before when i got the game.

what i mean with value is, that it has the same number of protection, for what level it is, health, etc. so the information of the clothing what it does. same as with weapons. and for changing this i have to pay.

havent played this game for some time now.
after getting a face mask that is better then my current one, for some odd reason it is not available in my wardrobe. also i have found out that some of my older clothing have the same value than my latest gear. is that a bug or is every clothing now up to date with my level 80 character?

im really confused now and also once you change, i have to pay real money to change back? also i have seen that there is some additional clothing of armor and weapon. cant remember ever buying it or taking it from a fallen enemy. the weapon one looks pretty neat with this huge sword but i cant untick the mask.

also there are some gear and clothing i have to unlock but it requires me to go in to the germ store. any chance i can unlock them without any germs? im afraid to change clothing now in case the gear i have is worse and i have less health.

i feel lost with all these changes. is that normal for MMOs to make changes like these? this game is my very first MMO and even since i play it since release, i still feel like a greenhorn.

i would appreciate some clarification. i just feel lost with all these changes.

sounds like a great idea, just the problem is i dont have any friends who play this game. so i just have to wait for a painful long download.

and yes, this is my first MMO. usually i stay away from them since you have to pay every month. but after watching angry joes review, i got it and enjoyed it a lot. even when i dont play it every single day because of other games.

i had a horrific crash with my computer last month and lost everything on it after win had to be freshly installed. now i am very worried that all my progress and character are lost as well. does this game cloud sync or am i very busted? please tell me its not the latter!!

it is a horrific idea, no doubt there. when i started to play it again after a long break and saw these changes, i was utterly confused. also why can you wear the town clothes for only 15min?

im still struggling a bit now how things works but i sure am not happy.

mine always took 10 secs. but i have to admit that it does take a bit longer now than i remember. but wow, 2-3 secs long. never had that. unless i load to a waypoint on the same map.

Okay, you’re not reading what I’m saying.

The wardrobe doesn’t have equipment in it.

It has cosmetic appearance items in it.

There are no stats on the items, because they’re not real items. They’re just a paintbrush to change what your armor looks like. If you click on the top panel where it says “Hero: Wardrobe” you’ll get to a menu that has an option for equipment, and that’s where you can see what you have in your inventory to equip.

The two coats you see in your wardrobe are just to change the appearance of what you’re wearing.

I really don’t know how to make this more clear.

You can’t sell some items on the trading post after you’ve used them. It will say “Soulbound” or “Account Bound” near the bottom when you hover over the item. Some of these items can’t be sold to vendors, either.

I may have posted already here, but… I’ll simply complain again here.

Theses tonics are clearly one of the worst idea since the launch of the game. Even if it was trivial, I had fun farming for those clothes because it was good looking, and mixing them was good.

People got creative with those town clothes. But with those tonics, I will never be able to be cute and celebrate a quaggan marriage again.
I won’t be able to be kitten and be a “broom biker”.
And I miss my ear muffs with my wintersday dress.
I can’t even look like a beggar anymore!

My biggest loss is indeed the biker look. 3 unique pieces + 2 outfits for this.

The tonics, plus the outfits as a whole killed the point of having various town clothes. It was ok to see, for example, the Bloody Prince outfit as a whole piece, but I really enjoyed mixing pieces of the Cook’s outfit, for example.
Now, without the earmuffs, I feel like something is missing on my engineer.

Still talking about outfits, them being one piece leaves us less customisation too. Especially on the wintersday outfit, where one of the color channel is incorrect on what was the bottom part! You can’t even get coherent dyes on it anymore without ruining something else, like the socks. At least for females. I simply want to have a red ribbon without being force to dye the rest in red too.

Bring back a system where we can mix town clothes. Bring back outfits as several pieces. And bring back all those head accessories to the town clothing.

i never got any other town clothing since you had to buy them with real money, but i was pretty happy with the standard one. but having it now as a tonic is bad. i have 2 more coats in my wardrobe and i cant put them on without using these stupid transmutation. they are not in the inventory so yeah, great, cant put them on.

ooooooooooooook. im totally confused now. but i guess this has to do that i really never play MMOs. this game is the only 1 since you dont have to pay every month.
i will play around with it and see if something you guys have explained come back to me. otherwise, im still lost.

so i try to equip the new coat and sword i got and see if it requests me to pay.

lol. i think we have enough of both. my female sylvari ranger character wears a coat that pretty much reveals her belly and its still addressed as a coat, medium armor.

i got my self a new coat that would cover her body and at least looks like a coat, but due these changes have made, i can forget. not paying real money to do that.

Yes, if you want to change your armor or weapon SKINS you need to pay it for real money. But if you want to change your whole armor, I mean real armor, it is still free. When you want to change your real armor to another armor you need to go Equipment panel. Wardrobe is only for skins.

At first it is little difficult to understand how it works, but in time you will get it.

so let me see if i understand this correctly.
instead buying individual pieces of armor, i have to buy a whole armor that includes everything?
thats still stupid as hell. just got my self a new coat that suits my level because i can only equip medium armor. also i got my self a nice sword and also for this i have to pay to equip it.

was just wondering because i see other players having really beautiful towns clothing on. but i guess this depends what class you play.

found it all and the closest thing to clothing was under “styles”. it sure had some funny clothing in there like bunny ears, glasses and all that . hell, even the pirate suit was pretty neat.
but nothing really regarding town clothing. i even entered that word in to the search field but it came out empty. also typing “town” in to the search field came out empty.

i will keep trying, maybe i missed something. thanks for the help so far

and wile im at it, where can i get more of these light clothing. all i have is this which was already with my female character. i know how to get armor but not the casual clothing.

well, because usually games have a ingame tutorial that explains everything and in my opinion, this stays better in your head then a video or manual explaining it to you.

i personally am totally new to MMOs, since the monthly fee is a huge turn off. so i expected a ingame tutorial as well that explains everything to me. especially if you play a class that has different abilities.
sure the video manual is helpful but still and the game did explain few things wile i was playing but still more infos like about abilities, how to use traits points and all that would have been nice if it would have shown me ingame.
getting it shown how to do it ingame and interact right after is easier to remember.

1. i have no idea how to activate the traits part. it keeps telling me i need training but i dont know where.
in a youtube video a guy said you have to buy a book, but i cant find any book stores on the map.

2. and where can i download the soundtrack? itunes has only few songs but i found out that it contains 4 CDs. the rest of the links i find on google are mainly torrents sites.

why i was wondering about the clothing when creating the character is, that they are wearing totally different clothing when you select what they should be.

anyway. i have noticed these pink triangles merchant but they sure asked for a lot of money. like over 60000. i was only able to buy small stuff but nothing for clothing or weaponry.
money wise im not very rich and i have reached already level 10 with my sylvari character.

and yes, the markets i mentioned are crafting stations. sorry for wrong explanation.

the trading part is a bit complicated for me. i was able though, to put up 2 things, so far nothing yet. to be honest, im not very good with this trading stuff. how to ask for money and all that. most of the stuff i see are so kitten expensive that i cant afford it at all. but i guess i need more time till i level up more and also understand the mechanic.

alright. so i will go back to the homeworld of my character (forgot the name again) and learn the leather crafting ability. i chose already one but nothing with armor and clothing. i know i can do 2 at once but am i able to cancel 1 of them so i can learn something else?
