How is the population in game currently? In PvE, PvP, etc?

I’ve noticed a lot of frustration on the forums: people saying they’re moving on and that they don’t like the game anymore, etc… is this affecting the in game population or is this just forum frustration?

I can never tell how a game is doing so I’ll just ask here.

When I go to open BLTC, it just opens a blank window. This is the case for the Gem Store, Currency Exchange, and Trading Post. The window opens and I am able to select one of the three aforementioned tabs but nothing loads up. The gold loading ring appears, cycles once, and then nothing happens. This has been happening for several hours.

I have relogged, restarted my modem and my router and nothing I have done seems to fix the issue.

What about this:

Shield #4 gets the Knockback as its additional effect, instead of #5.

Shield #5 no longer knocks opponents back and instead grants regeneration to allies standing within the bubble

I have a few ideas that might make shields worth using on Guardians.

1) There should be a trait (instead of the +150 toughness while wielding a shield) that blocks attacks while wielding a shield. This would be an automatic effect that would obviously have an interval (say 10-15 seconds). OR, a trait that grants the wielder Aegis while wielding a shield. This would also have an interval. I think this be a nice addition to F3’s passive and can supplement it when that Virtue is used actively.

2) “detonate bubble” on Shield #5 should be a blast finisher and guards should have longer to detonate it. Sometimes when I pop #5, it ends before I get a chance to detonate it again.

3) This has been said plenty of times I’m sure, but #4 needs a damage increase and maybe just a complete rework. Please feel free to suggest things below.

You don’t even wanna know how much money they got from me… and I’d spend it again. Even with all of its faults and definite bugs that they just can’t seem to work out, this is still the MMO for me.

This is the kind of stuff I love to see. I share your opinion my friend. We need more positivity in both the forums and the game itself.

I pre-ordered it (Ultimate version might I add) and personally don’t care when it comes out. I can’t wait for the Xpac.

And honestly, even without them officially announcing some of the things I’m looking forward to the most (Hardcore PvE, elite specs, etc) I’d still play the Xpac. Can’t wait!

I’ve been running with a shield in dungeons for a while. I guess the knockback/heal of #5 is nice. Plus #4 is good for protection. Damage-wise though idk what to do with it lol

Exactly. The fact that rodgort and howler both have footstep effects only makes Flameseeker’s and minstrel’s lack of them ever more puzzling.

My suggestion for Flameseeker Prophecies would be something along the lines of blue fire footprints. It seems to fit the weapon pretty well

Part of the beauty in this game is that all of the professions can be tailored to different play styles and thus can be utilized in different ways. It’s also situational. In certain areas (dungeons, fotm) it wouldn’t be as efficient without a mix of professions: 5 guards might never die but might take too long, etc…

So I think that all of the professions are pretty darn good (as long as the person clicking the mouse knows what theyre doing of course!)

I know this has been said plenty of times, but I’m gonna bring it up again. I’d really like to see all of the legendary offhand weapons get a footfall effect. While this isn’t important to everyone, some people, like myself, feel that all of the legendaries should have a footfall effect. I just got my Flameseeker and while I’ll still use it regardless of it’s lack of foot effects, it would be pretty cool to give the minstrel and the shield some footsteps. (Rodgort and Howler both do)

But really though, it’s not like I’m gonna quit if this doesn’t happen, it would just be super kewl!

I agree that I rarely use hammer #5 and I think that even though it’s another combo field, it isn’t feasible to use in PvP.

Hi,

I just wanted to give some of my own feedback on my experience with Stronghold PvP and the Revenant this weekend. This is more a way for the GW2 Devs to read than individual players as it does not pertain to them. Since I don’t know of any other way of providing feedback, I’m leaving it here.

Note: I consider myself a casual player and as such, you can expect (hopefully) that the following feedback is reasonably representative of the casual player population (since it’s a “casual population,” it is unlikely that anyone would care enough to disagree). What you will not find here is the opinion of someone who is a die-hard pvper or someone who cares deeply about the interworkings of class-combat mechanics.

Stronghold:
—Personally, and this is also the case with several of my guild members, I found this game mode pretty entertaining. It has the potential to either last quite a while, or if you’re quick, the game can end much faster. This was a plus in my book. I thought that this game mode was a refreshing addition to the current pvp options and would very much like to see it flourish in HoT. As I said, I’m pretty casual and can therefore think of few suggestions as to how to make it better. If any, I really do not see the necessity of the catapults (I have yet to see anyone use them in a match).

Revenant:
—Now I know that many people had some issues with this class. I never played it in pvp. Additionally, I know that this class is unfinished, thus the “beta” weekend. Anyway, I found the profession to be pretty fun to play. I toyed with a few different builds but had a good time in PvE (doing dungeons, etc.). I’d give Legendary Dwarf Stance a 9/10 (it’s pretty darn tanky) but for the others, I had a rough time getting them to be effective. This is not really a problem because, again, the class isn’t finished. I think the revenant has some serious potential. I actually really liked the fact that the entire build was determined only by the Legend and the weapon. It’s great because the utilities are controlled by the legend and since the legend can be swapped in combat, so can the utilities. This is something that no other class can do but it’s balanced because the revenant has less flexibility with the builds (I think this is OK).

Overall, I had a pleasant experience with both Stronghold and the Revenant and I am very much looking forward to HoT.

Does anyone know if any devs have hinted at new dungeons coming at any point in the future? Or atleast maybe new paths to the existing dungeons?

Where the underworld by the way…just because GW2 is 200ish years after gw1 doesnt mean theres no underworld

I do agree, the UW and FOW in GW1 were actually “explorable” whereas the Dungeons in GW2 are just storyline paths in the same area. I would love to see more paths for each dungeon or maybe different ways to complete each path kind of like they have in FOTM (dredge fractal for example can have two different final bosses and two different ways to get to it)

So I do PvE almost the entire time i’m in the game and I mainly do dungeons. So I was wondering what the best build would be for a balanced tank/dmg dealer Guardian for dungeons would be.

I dont want to just be a meat shield spending all my time supporting and I also dont want to be a full zerker.

So what would be the best bet for build/weapons/armor/traits/ etc..?

People that think thieves are OP dont know how to fight one. When they disappear, they’re probably either fleeing or they are going to backstab you. So when you see them stealth wait about 2 seconds and then dodge and you’ll probably evade the backstab. As far as their Initiative burst, quite a few classes can successfully either tank it or simply get out of it. Think about it… Once we blow our initiative on the initial burst, ALL OF OUR SKILLS are no longer usable. So that’s your chance to destroy the thief.

They aren’t hard to counter…at all

Don’t take the title so seriously. What I mean by update is that we haven’t gotten a significant content addition since fotm. All this talk of improving dungeons, player owned housing, and guild halls yet there haven’t been really any significant changes.

I cant think of any other suggestion other than start updating the game and releasing substantive content before your time runs out. As many others have pointed out, this year there are several mmo’s coming out and its time to start releasing crap that we actually want. Not this living story…

I’m still having a lot of fun, I only play in PvE and WvW. If you’re having doubts about thief why not try other classes anyway?

Thief is (in my opinion) in a good place right now as far as balance goes.

u cant thing shortbow or pistol is in a good place….

or our lack of boons or hp or defense without having 1st place burst :P srry we had our burst cut 33% with much alone!

anyway there are a few major problems other than that too. like how we only have 3 or MAYBE 4 utilities to choose from bc the others are truly not viable.

or how you can have all berserk arrmor but depending if u put 30 30 10 0 0 for full dmg or 0 0 10 30 30 for 50% less dmg……shouldnt be such a big swing due to traits although there is bc our base dmg need to be higher…as anet said before.

i am not saying that we are the only ones that need work but making crap decision every patch is making this game die. period. most are waiting to jump ship when the next big MMORPG comes out. then you can atleast cut GW2 players in half.. AT least.

Here’s a tip: Don’t blow your initiative spamming the high damage skills like heartseeker. Learn to time the attacks with your party members if youre in a dungeon.

Also, if you do spam heartseeker or the like, once you do, get out of combat like its your job cuz youre going to go down.

Hey man,

To be honest, I have not used a trap since the game released and I made my first thief. The venoms are essentially useless as well.

Thieves’ shortbow skills are good for sure but it takes alot more focus and concentration to play a thief right. Stick to the stealth utilities (Shadow refuge),
and the ones that are useful (smoke screen, etc). Don’t waste the precious 7/8/9 slots on venoms and traps.

Combo Fields?

Recently, while trying to get a grasp on the usefulness of the thief class, I was told that we thieves excel at combo finishers. Now I am apparently struggling to understand how these work. I understand that there has to be first a combo field, which I take to be some kind of AoE attack. Then following the field, there has to be a skill used that has a combo finisher to interact with the field.

So idk how the thief is supposed to know when to trigger the combo finisher at the right time. And are they really that useful?

No kidding. CoF is really tough to get into as a thief. Considering its a super easy dungeon, I once asked someone that was looking for 2 more full zerk wars if I can join as a full zerk thief (which still deals a nice amount of dps). He was insistent that only zerk wars are worth finding for the dungeon and that thieves arent as good for the dungeon.

Simply ridiculous.

I have been all over the thief thread talking about how useless I feel and unhelpful I feel as a thief. I stated that I feel as if I am a let down to the party because I have this feeling that nobody really needs/wants a thief.

I am fully aware that other classes can feel this way as well.

I simply fail to see what, in my example, thieves bring to the table.

So my suggestion is to implement something like a dungeon or a simple mission that would require different classes and their own unique abilities to complete. Just to make me feel like I’m worth something. It would be interesting to go onto the popular GW2LFG and see “GLF1M, NEED A THIEF” on the webpage (because you certainly don’t see that).

Im just a little cheesed that most, if not all, dungeons can be completed with a full team of warriors or guardians with the addition of the random mesmer to make things a little smoother. It irks me that a 5 man team of thieves would wipe instantly in something like fotm but a 5 man team of wars could probably kick that fotm’s rear end with no sweat.

Just my two cents.

EDIT: This is not a thief complaint thread, I simply used the thief in my examples because I am one. Please note that I am not looking for a nerf, buff, or anything of that sort but am simply using the thief as a placeholder for the other professions.

Initiative is bad

In that example, the P/P weapon set is bad, not initiative. More specifically, initiative costs of the P/P weapon set is bad, not initiative.

In your example on CnD, CnD provides a 3 sec invi at the cost of 6 initiative. Let’s transfer that to a “non-thief” not using initiative.
- 1 ini recharges at 1.33 sec
- 3 sec invi every 7.98 sec (8 sec) OR a 6 sec invi every 15.96 sec (16 sec)
- 3 sec invi recover 2 ini (2.66 sec) OR 6 sec invi recovers 4 ini (5.32 sec)

And take note, invi is not the only thing CnD provides.

You ask “CnD is useful, but 6 initiative?”, I (as someone who also plays non thieves) would ask “CnD is useful, but why only an 8 sec cd?”

Also consider, that while your math may have shown that it doesnt have a long cooldown, you dont realize that using CnD takes a massive chunk out of the thief’s initiative pool. So when I say useless, i suppose dont take it to mean that CnD is useless, more so that it is less useful. Meaning that it may be a great skill, but the fact that the ini cost is so high, that it really makes it a skill to use sparingly as it renders the thief almost out of ini when used.

Why is it that whenever I go on GW2LFG to join say, a FoTM team, that when I finally get invited or I self invite myself onto a team I always feel like as soon as I pop up in the party, the rest of them are just sitting at the computers saying “great………a thief….what are we gonna do with a thief….?”

I kinda feel like a let down to the rest of my party simply be being a pretty useless class. (atleast i feel that way).

Whereas GW2LFG, if you have not been on it, is infested with ppl saying “ZERK WAR ONLY” or “NEED HEAVYS ONLY” etc, etc,…

Now this is only a limited pool of data from which I have gathered my assumptions, but I get the feeling that this is a somewhat widespread feeling: That thieves bring more or less nothing new or special to the table that couldnt be replaced with another class. (Except for the fact that we can do cool moves while fighting……"

Initiative is bad

Initiative is definitely the cause of most of the problems.

P/P is a prime example – the main reason it’s so bad is because the bread and butter DPS skill shares a resource with all of the utility skills. This means that you’re always over-sacrificing in one area or the other. Trying to push good DPS out of P/P requires sacrificing all of its mobility and utility. Trying to get any mobility or utility out of P/P means tanking your DPS. Granted, there are options for addressing this within the context of Initiative (like buffing Vital Shot so you aren’t so dependent on Unload for DPS), but nevertheless it wouldn’t be as much of an issue with cooldowns.

Great example. Although we can spam heartseeker or what have you, our utility skills are then useless as we expended our only resource for activating them. And the term “utility” really is used too loosely when discussing the thief. We really dont have “utility” skills. In my opinion, CnD is useful but 6 initiative? that seems counterproductive seeing as it kind of makes a useful skill useless…the same goes for the others.

If only people realized this. I have has so many people watch me go into stealth and sit there, not move, and not attack, then they get hit and complain about there being no counter to stealth. I almost won a 1v1 against a thief on my level 15 ele… wielding a staff. Tell me, how is that possible against an op class? It must be that eles are even MORE op right…?

It’s just a shame that people want a counter to stealth….

Here’s another newsflash. There is a counter and the other classes dont actually have to do anything…WE COUNTER IT OURSELVES. They put this really nice thing called “reveal” into the stealth model making it so if we do anything related to combat whilst in stealth, we aint in stealth no mo… And also…while we are in stealth, we still get hit by attacks

Reading that actually lowers my IQ.

The Thief class is different than most other melee based and close up combat classes. And before anyone says “you have a shortbow and pistols”….please understand how ridiculously short the range is on those weapons.

That being said, Thieves are not OP. I have played a thief since the release of this game and still havent mastered it. And to the guy who thinks he makes correct positional changes has clearly never used D/D #5 (cloak and dagger) and tried to maneuver around to the back of your target before your stealth runs out….which by the way… is in 3 seconds. That requires quick reactions and good finger movement to get that dang camera angle rotated so you can make sure youre still pointed in the right daggum direction to land the backstab….

had me scratching my head too…unable to decide how to respond…my top contenders were:
“wait your whole party is whiping all the time? Maybe you’re the problem?” And then that competing with…“have you ever played with a thief in pve?” they get 1-hitted all the time, stealth doesn’t even matter because the mobs seem to ignore it half the time anyway.

Absolutely, I actually just said that in another post. Even when I shadow refuge myself out of combat, the massive AoE that almost every dungeon has still brings me down. In order for a thief to really be able to stay alive, they have to sacrifice alot of dps

We can “leave” combat by using stealth. You do realize that even if were in stealth….AoE still destroys us. STEALTH DOES NOT = INVULNERABILITY. At this point you’d think everyone understands that. I find that leaving combat isnt a dang cake walk that you make it up to be. Thieves have alot to complain about, 2nd behind those poor rangers. So don’t tell thieves to stop whining…until you’ve played one, and played one ALOT, its really hard to make these accusations

This is how I view us thieves:

Warrior = Able to do as much as or more damage than thieves (which is ok, I am not whining). They have significantly more armor than thieves do, thus are more survivable. They have quite a few more weapons at their disposal thus making them more versatile.

Thief = Everything I said above, but cut in half. (except for the damage) Thieves can dish out a nice pretty amount of damage but thats as long as our initiative is up. Once we blow that, we have to jump OOC and stealth ourselves so we dont die until we can jump back Into combat.

Now I dont think warriors should be nerfed. But why would ANYONE want a thief over a warrior (which, to me, is the most comparable class as they are both highly melee based). We just seem worthless….yea we can turn invisible and all but that doesnt last long enough for it to be really much worth.
