PvP and PvE
Ok, so I have been stuck between pretty much Necromancer, Warrior, and Mesmer on what class I wan’t as my main.
I like the Necromancer the most then the Warrior, the Mesmer is weird to me but they seems cool.
I have always just like the Dark death based or blood magic based classes, and the Dark knight classes also.
But I have been leveling a Necro for a couple days now gotten to level 42 so far.
But I’m worried I’m just crippling myself in the long run.
I hear all this stuff about how Necro just is not in a good spot they are never wanted for dungeons or even PvP Teams.
Is this true? Are Necros as bad as people say?
Is there any known future plans for Necro to make them better
Or am i pretty much choosing the worst of the 3 Classes to main, my biggest problem with choosing Warrior is im worried they will be boring after a while. For the most part right now I enjoy Warrior a lot they are my most played in PvP and i tend to do the best with Warrior over any other class.
Then mesmer i have never really gotten into they just seem interesting.
Just wondering I’m bored and was just talking with a friend on what classes we felt counter others, and Thief is the only one we couldnt think of like a hard counter too.
So felt like asking the general community on what profession you guys think best counters a Thief.
Ok so, Im gonna completely start over, i deleted all my characters and changed servers because the server i was on was pretty empty so i joined a high pop server.
Im gonna be doing a Warrior, because they are just my style of play and are good at pretty much everything.
But my problem is i REALLY like the look of the Charr in heavy armor they have this Dragon like look going for them.
But then i read all this stuff about how no one plays Charr or Norn because they are too big and it makes their animations easy to see especially on a Warrior.
Is this true?
Does it really make a huge difference in PvP the size of your character?
or is any real difference it would make negligible?
Ok so I leveled a thief, but they just are not my play style, ive never liked being the squishy guy that cant take any damage.
I much prefer the tank person who is hard to take down but can still beat some one into submission.
So i was thinking about doing eather Warrior or Necromancer.
Im more of a PVP player. I enjoye doing Spvp and stuff.
Ya i will still do PvE so if like necromancer is just god awfull at it it can make a difference.
But Im not that hardcore do dungeon runs AFAP gotta get all the crazy gears quick kinda PvE player. I would much rather be with a bunch of guildies just chillin doin dungeon runs and stuff talking and kitten.
So im just wondering which one would you guys say is better Necro or Warrior.
Just in general
Ik player skill plays a huge role so im just looking for peoples opinions
So i have been wanting to play Thief for a while now but every time i try i get annoyed with PvP because i suck with Thief, so i never get around to actually leveling it up.
I just need some tips
Like best weapon set to use
What healing skill to use.
And when i do hit level 30 what trait lines i should unlock first.
This is just strictly for Leveling up i dont want a specific build thats great for something else i just needs tips to level up
Thanks for any help
Ok, so I made an engineer got to level 60, I felt like making a warrior because it just fits more to my style of play than engineer. And my friend just started to play so figured i could also make a new character with him.
But for some reason it seems like im leveling super slow now.
Im completing the map 100% but now im stuck doing Lvl 23 hearts when im only level 19, im doing every event i see, i have food to give me bonus XP, and im doing all the hearts and completing all the maps before I move on, even my story quest is now level 22 and im only level 19.
Just don’t get it because Ik that I didnt have this problem on my engineer i stayed leveled with the quests if not i was a much higher level maybe 2-3 levels over the current hearts i had to do and my story quests.
Just dont get what im doing wrong or if there is something i may be missing this time around.
So im just looking for a general build for Ele, like one that is used more often than others.
Im thinking of doing more of a D/D build but i just dont know what items to build and traits to take, and skills to use. Ill probably end up changing what i use a little anyways but idk where to start and i just need a starting point to learn how i play best.
Ok so im pretty much brand new to the game, i bought the game a while ago, but never really got into it because i didnt have much time.
Now i have more time on my hands and felt like getting into the game.
I was gonna try and learn thief but i just cant get into it its to annoying when I follow guides and try to do everything im supposed to but i get insta killed by everyone else.
So, now im stuck between mesmer and warrior.
I tried both in sPvP
Mesmer, i didnt do that well with i meen i did ok but wasnt anything special.
Warrior i tend to be #1 or #2 on my team pretty consitantly.
Im leaning more towards warrior, but i just hear all this stuff about how Warrior is super boring later on, and they are stupid easy to play and take 0 skill.
And i just hate being the one class everyone hates on and you automatically have a bad name for playing that class.
But im just wondering in general
which one do you guys feel are generaly better in
PVE
PVP
WVW
Ik you cant always say oh this class is just better, but im just looking for peoples opinions on the them to see if maybe it will help my decision
Ok, so I have been staying away from Thief because I just suck at it.
I have always loved the stealthy characters in games.
Pretty much in every single Elder Scrolls my main was a sneaky assassin.
I havent really done any PvE with my Thief yet. I literally just remade a her.
But in PvP IDK what im doing wrong if its the builds im using or what, but it seems like no matter what I do, i just instantly die the moment an enemy attacks me.
Im not sure if its just because im not dodging right or what, but it seems like if i play another class every thief i fight just destroys me and is able to jump in and out of stealth.
Im never able to stay stealth for very long in fights, and i seem like i do 0 damage.
I just dont get what im doing wrong.
And im not sure if its better to run a power based build or a Condi based build with them.
My next question is, how are Thieves for PvE? Are they wanted for dungeons and stuff, are they semi easy to Lvl i dont mind if they are not the easiest thats w/e, i just hate trying to Lvl a character with it being nearly impossible to do anything alone.
So I got this game like 8 months ago and just never played it.
I was on it religiously for like a month then I just stopped.
I was always that person who like the long range classes, sitting back and pelting people from a distance and possibly killing them before they could even get close to me.
And if they even got somewhat close they i just kite them into the ground.
But my problem with this game is it seemed like every build for Ranger that was even a little viable was some condi or close range melee build.
I meen i dont mind using a great sword or something if it meens life or death but the fact that the game pretty much says play this type of ranger or die to 75% of all other builds is pretty frustrating. And then the fact that you are so godkitten reliant on the fricken pets its ridiculous.
So my question is…are rangers still this dumb or have they finally fixed the huge lack of build diversity this class has? Also how are the pets right now? are they still kittenedly dumb and unreliable?
On a side note i mention some things about mesmer in the beginning, are these alogations correct?
Not really no. Mesmer is probably the best 1v1 class atm if specced correctly. The specs they struggle with the most will get nerfed in the up coming patch (10 dec) aswell. Some people state that mesmers will be the top dogs after the patch.
They offer some of the best burst damage in game if you specced for that, but you can go conditions or phantasms aswell. If you want a general idea of what type of pvp builds there are and what the gameplay looks like:
http://www.youtube.com/user/osianic2/videos?shelf_id=2&view=0&sort=dd
Another option could be to play an engineer, which is considered really strong now aswell. And its pronanly the hardest class to play in this game. So a lot of depth if youre looking. And due to its variety of tools and builds its quite diverse and it can do those “crazy things” you mention in your post.
Hey thanks for the fast response, I may try out Mesmer, since they seem pretty “tricky” and thats what i like. It was actually the first class that caught my eye but when i read about them it was very discouraging to even play them from a new unexperienced player veiw point.
I guess thats what comes with these games though since htere are always gonna be people saying a class sucks, just seems like Memser got a lot more hate than some of the other classes.
Ok so been playing for about a week or so and have tried most classes a little bit. Only class i havent touched is Mesmer but i hear mixed things about them and a lot of it is that they are almost strictly a support/utulity based class and dont really dish out substantial damage.
Im still having a lot of trouble deciding what i want my first main to be.
I want a class that does well in PvE and is generally wanted for dungeons and stuff. But can also hold their own when it comes to PvP/WvW
And hearing that elementalists are just super squish and die wicked easily i dont even want to bother with them.
I want a class that is capable of dealing high amounts of damage, and still having some decent survivability wether it be from evasivness, to just general defense.
And i hear a lot of good things about Warrior but they just have no depth, its like a ok i run in and swing my weapon for days and use a couple shouts/stances and thats it. no real strategy.
I like being able to outplay my apponent and do crazy things some people might not expect.
Just if anyone can help me find a class that fits these at least a little bit it would help a lot.
I just dont have the ability to spend time on every class cuz i tend to be like….oh i wonder how this class is or i wonder this and that and then im constantly switching proffesions and stuff and i end up getting no where in the end. this is my biggest weakness when it comes to MMOs is figuring out that first class to main.
On a side note i mention some things about mesmer in the beginning, are these alogations correct? they seems like they can do some crazy trickery, but if they dont have the ability to kill then what does is matter if i can dance around all day, sooner or later eather im gonna get bored or my apponent is.
I’ll give them a number from 1 to 5. It’s just to have a general idea of course.
tPvP
Warrior 5
Necromancer 4
Ranger 4
Engineer 3
Thief 1
Note: I don’t do tPvP much lately and I never played engie so might be wrong there.WvW zerging
Warrior 5
Necromancer 4
engineers/thieves 1
rangers 0WvW roaming
Warrior/Thief 5
Engineer 4
Ranger 3
Necromancer 0Dungeons
Warrior 5
Thief 3
Ranger 2
Engenieer 2
Necromancer 0General PvE
Any class does fine but warrior/ranger are the best in my opinion.
It wasn’t totally fair giving a 0 to necros in roaming. In an organized (baby-sitting) group, I’d give them a 4.
What about post dec 10th patch? I feel like the warrior is gonna be a lot weaker in the pvp aspect than where they are now.
So been playing for a little, retried Warrior for a little longer and pretty much got a feel for every class. (except for elementalist, never liked mages in any other games)
the 5 classes i enjoyed the most atm are (the * meens they are my 2 favorite
*Ranger
*Engineer
Theif
Necromancer
Warrior
Just wondering how the community would rate these guys based on their reliability in
sPvP
WvW (one thing to note i feel like im gonna like roaming the most)
and PvE (aka do they solo well, and do people like to have them in parties for dungeons and stuff?)
Thanks to any answers.
So recently made a post about ranger, and many people said with my play style i should go eather Warrior or Theif.
Been trying warrior and I like it a lot more than theif so far.
But all I hear is that Warrior is horrible for pvp and you will just lose any fight against some one who is even semi compitent at the game.
Is this true? I really enjoye the PvP aspect of these kind of games and I dont wanna level my Warrior to 80 and do everything I need to do just to be pretty much stuck doing nothing but PvE cuz its all my class is good at.
I dont understand a lot of it cuz half the post say how Warrior is just op, and then the other half say that Warrior is just awful and only no brain kids play them.
Why is there so much hate towards the Warrior class? Also are they good at PvP? I dont need them to be an easy mode class for PvP but if i go through all the work just to find out im gonna lose no matter how good and how knowledgable i am of the classes and my class, just becuase im not a theif or a condi necromancer well then whats the point in the end?
What is it with posts like these? Warrior IS the easy mode class at the moment. S/d thief and condimancer, while both strong, aren’t still even close to warriors…
How so? I meen i don’t want to be rude, but you haven’t said anything to back up your claims.
Also im not here complaining about Warriors or other classes, i just want to know if its truly worth it to level a Warrior.
If Warriors are just horrible at PvP and that is my main enjoyment with games like this, well than why make one? I would rather just make a different class that is still fun but can at least enter PvP and do fine.

Thanks everyone for the responses, it is nice to know that rangers are not horrible.
To give more insight on my playstyle in other games.
Elderscrolls series: I always had a Sneaky assassin class especially in Skyrim i ran a sneaky assassin who used illusion magic.
Other previous MMO’s:
SWTOR: I was a sith assassin. (the dual blade user cant remember if they were actually called assassins or not :p)
Dekaron: (many of you may not have heard of this MMO) I was the Vicious summoner, they were basically the fast high damage dealers of the game.
WoW: never got to into it only played for like a week but I only played the Archer class.
Basically every game i played i was the stealth class. i tried the thief in sPvP only so far using the D/P build but idk i just didnt like the leaping through the circle thing to cloak.
and idk if there are any other good builds for them.
I never liked being a support player, cuz idk I just cant do it. and i hate being a pure tank cuz i just like to kill things lol.
Are theifs good? I hear a lot of good things about them, but Im also worried that they may jsut get beat into to the dirt with the Nerf Stick and never recover from it (1 reason why i tend to stay away from the “community elected OP classes” since most “bad” players with just cry and moan untill the owners just do what they want and then they never have to deal with figuring out how to counter the class.
But are their any other builds for theif that are just as good as D/P or is D/P pretty much the go to build?
(edited by Magmorel.7806)
My general play style in other games was usually some one who can kill some one else fast a quick, sometimes without them even knowing wtf even happened. and as of right now I have really only leveled a Ranger, Guardian, and a Warrior. (to about lvl 18-20)
(and i absolutely hated warrior they were just to slow and clunky and the 2h skill that roots you in 1 spot just aggravated me half the time an enemy would just move out of it, and if a numb minded NPC could do that well i might as well just stand still for 2 seconds and let a player beat on me before i start fighting and just forget about even using the skill)
Im leaning more towards rangers. But so far I have read nothing but how bad Ranger is, that no one ever wants them for PvE and they are just to squishy and have no mobility for PvP. I dont want to make a Tanky ranger or do some build that doesnt involve the Longbow in some way. Im really interested in WvW for when i actually get there and yes i understand im a pretty long ways away from that. I tried sPvP with my ranger and did ok but i cant really use that as a judgment when i have little to no idea about wtf i am even doing half the time.
BASICALLY: my guestion comes down to this. Is it true that rangers are just bad? like are they good for PvE and PvP could I do solo WvW since i like running kinda lone ranger (hehe get it?…..god im stupid) a lot.
Do people want them for dungeons? or no?
I like ranger but wants the point of playing one getting it to 80 then finding out ok…now wtf do i do i can WvW but im just gonna get recked by 80% of all other classes and no one ever wants me for dungeons.
So if any one knows a class that might be a better class for me or has info about rangers let me know it would be a big help.
I just dont want to level a class and find out i kittened myself at the class selection screen.
